I'm debating what any of the last 3 pages had to do with wrestling at all. I'm of the opinion that wrestling is one of my favorite things. Whether it is defined as an art or a craft or whatever, I fucking love it. There is bad wrestling to be sure but that comes with every form of entertainment. There is definitely an art to pro wrestling when done at it's highest levels, but I don't know that qualifies wrestling to be defined as an art if I come right down to it. Either way, it seems like a debate to be had when there is nothing else demanding my attention.

This argument that Heyman creating this idea of a "golden era" for both the wrestlers and the fans at the time seems like an odd thing to use against him as a promoter. It seems like that would have been his main goal at the time and his success in achieving it seems like something in his favor. I would imagine that any promoter would want to create the illusion that right here, right now is where you want to be as a wrestling fan. That Heyman did this is an achievement that should be lauded for.

Match Ratings - Doing Away With the Meltzer * Formula
dawho5 replied to Fantastic's topic in Pro Wrestling
To further illustrate Poneglyph's point I will go this route. There are All Japan tag matches and six mans that are 3.5 stars in a lot of people's eyes. There are more select tags and six mans that are 4.5 and 5 from the same promotion. Are those 3.5 star matches now "bad" because you look at them in relation to those other tag matches? Does that affect how they are looked at in relation to an American match from the same time? So yes, there is the chance that an El Gigante match can be "good" in comparison to a worse El Gigante match. And from a certain standpoint it could be said that a particularly "good" El Gigante match may be comparatively better than his average and therefore preferable in a sense to a "bad" Flair match that is just as "bad" in relation to an average Flair match. Having said that I think it's a wrong way of looking at anything. However, that is my opinion and I'm sure there are those who may take that tack and I will not say they are not allowed to do so. I would also agree with OJ as well. Like what you want to like. -
Thread for keeping track of draft picks and who is controlling who

From my reading online it seems that Lyons was wrestling until 1984. Don't know how this should be handled. -
I like the idea of having a Japan booker as well. This is a nice twist.

I left instructions with goc in the event CFCW makes his pick right after I leave. If not, I will be making my pick first thing in the morning. -
I thought that as faces they at least had interesting spots to insert into a match. Now all they have is a valet/part time wrestler who comes out with them that makes them interesting at all. There is some truth to the idea that they shouldn't be doing a bunch of cool shit because they are heels. It may hurt them a little bit that any cool shit they do at all will overshadow Enzo/Cass so they have to be extra bland to make them look good.

That Gran Apollo match reminds me of a tag match between Choshu/Yatsu and Jumbo/Tenryu. Yatsu gets out of control after Jumbo refuses to brawl with him. Higuchi and Choshu try to calm him down for a bit and then the bell rings. I love that match. -

Honestly being Montreal made my draft a lot easier. Getting big names there besides Bravo and Leduc was something I could put off in favor of guys I wanted to build that would disappear. I almost made it on Bravo or Leduc, but if all I missed out on was those two it was a pretty good draft. -
The tournament to crown new Canadian International Tag Team champions has been finalized. Dynamite Kid and Davey Boy Smith will indeed be in the tournament, as will the Cuban Assassins from Maple Leaf Wrestling. Also announced for this card, NWA Canadian champion Rick Martel will be defending his title against "Canada's Strongest Man" Dino Bravo. Rumors have been circulating about another big Montreal Forum show on the 30th of July involving Andre the Giant. These are unsubstantiated at this point, but further details will be forthcoming. edit: The team name for the Tongans has been changed to the Tongan Terrors as I felt it was more indicative of their gimmick.

Yeah, I think that's the weakness of having only a play-by-play guy. If you have a heel and/or face color guy there is quite a bit more to be done with announcing. Or even just a semi-heel guy who can live with some of the stuff heels do but only wants to see it go so far. -

I'm busy watching some AWA. -
I thought the highlights of NXT were the beginning and the end. The mixed tag match was forgettable but well structured, the women's squash was fine for what it was. I liked the Dusty tribute and want to spend all day looking up Dusty promos now. Hard times indeed. The main event was at least good even if it could have been more. Then again, you want more on the blowoff match, not the initial one.

I have one for sure in Quebec that is coming up after Memphis picks that was a big name in the early to mid 80s. The reason I took Goulet before him is because from my reading Goulet was a guy who could drag a good match out of anyone, was on the midcard level just about everywhere and had name value in Quebec. He can run matches, especially on house shows, with guys like LaFon and Tonga John, work with Armand Rougeau in tags to help him improve, etc. to help build up the future guys as far as skill goes. My next pick is sadly going to be a JTTS type who gets a few pins over midcard guys, does jobs for his semi-regular team with Lefebvre and leads the younger guys through matches. I've never seen him wrestle, but I hate taking a name guy and making him into that. I have ten guys I want to feature going forward plus Gino Brito, who was a really big name in Quebec and it's just not feasible to keep more than that hot. To even do that I am going to have to borrow in talent a lot so that those guys don't do too many jobs. Looking at it right now, the teams I want to be my #2 face and heel are #4 and #3 respectively. I have a good six months to a year of booking them to get them where I want them. Even Brito is going to end up falling victim to some jobs that he very likely would not have done during the later part of that. And what really sucks is that I get two and a half years to run with Lefebvre before he dies. After some of the planned feuds he is gonna be a contender regardless of his partner for the tag straps. -

I'm looking at an hour of TV, 1.5 to 2 on the big shows and house shows are around an hour and a half. -
I would also like to have Stan Hansen on the 20th of July if that works.
-
I'd like Stan for a December 31st show if he's willing to work in Canada that evening.
