  1. Okay finish, Lee is making excuses after the match, which is such a not-babyface thing to do.
  2. I liked the way the teams used the stip, thought it was a smart way of working a unique match style. I did enjoy the straight tag at the end more though, although I do wish we had seen Davis get busted open. I did like how the babyfaces would go at one another with technical wrestling when faced off but the heels couldn't handle it. Added extra flavor to the match. I would guess Davis/Dynamite were protected as much because of the lack of decent babyface workers as anything else.
  3. Loved both of these guys. Great promo all-around.
  4. Eddie and Doug did great to kick things off and we get some great nostalgia for the Memphis fans. That's one thing I think the USWA did really well was give the fans enough of a taste of the old Memphis territory to keep them coming back. It's doubtful they could have gone national even with Lawler around, but they were always in business in their home base.
  5. The part of this that had me popping was the tribute to Dave Brown. Along with Lance Russel one of my top 3 wrestling announcers of all time. 33 years later, congrats to Dave Brown on 25 years! You could see that Jerry was pretty happy about paying tribute to Dave too, and why wouldn't he be. He grew up watching the guy! The more traditional tag threw me a little. Since when did the Moondogs have that kind of self-control?
  6. I thought Warrior's part at the end about paying any price for the WWF title was really good. It put over the title as the end-all, be-all. Not sure I would trust Flair on much at this point. Helen doesn't like the Hart family being split and all the tension. Seems very natural as a concerned mom.
  7. Best part of this was the heels taunting Villalobos as they held him back.
  8. I thought the psychology of the match was solid enough with the cycle of beat on opponent leading to try to throw into the fire, then back to beating on the opponent. I liked the countdowns to the big electrical bursts as well, broke up the repetitiveness of the match. Mostly this repetitiveness was due to Pogo's lack of any real offense. It went on at least 5 minutes too long though. And Matsunaga took way too much of the punishment. The ending is one of the dumbest endings I've ever seen. Pogo hits the ref so he can call Quinones in, but there are 3 more refs outside! Which is 100% clear when Pogo gets caught in an inside cradle and caught for the 3 that one of those refs counts. Matsunaga did have some nasty burns and there was this WTF Pogo spot where he just wanders into the electrical shower area face-first during the countdown and then is surprised when he walks into it.
  9. Loved the "paper champions" being shredded on the barb wire. Also, the whole "we don't need gloves" bit is another nice bit of babyface vs. heel psychology. Great stuff.
  10. Loved the demonstration here. Really showed how dangerous the barbed wire cage is. Also love how Corny never even mentions the chance that his guys could go into the barbed wire.
  11. I was a big fan of this. Fuller did a great job with his story about the 2 ponies.
  12. I thought Lee really sold the head shaving. The 3 count on the title change was awful fast, especially compared to the nearfall that came just before it. Hoping to see a Lawler/Jarrett convincing victory sooner rather than later.
  13. Perfectly good trios, and I will agree this is far better than the AAA match. Still disappointing for the reasons mentioned already.
  14. Screamy promo, badness flowing through veins, goofy early Taz....this kinda hurt, but had humor to it. I'm wondering if Tony Rumble and Ultimate Warrior could have cut intense but completely unintelligible promos on each other at any point in their careers. Would have at least been semi-entertaining.
  15. I won't be the dissenting voice here. Too long for what it was and a lot of crowd work/stalling. Rey eating the floor on that moonsault was brutal. Psicosis took a nice floor bump a little earlier too. Needed more direction during the match, everything seemed so random after caida 1.
  16. Was not a huge fan of this, even though I agree it was perfectly well-worked. Hash looked great as always. Possibly a proving match for Sasaki and something to set up a rivalry between Hash and Fujinami.
  17. Chono being a complete dick heel was great, as was Kosh as the veteran who isn't taking Chono's shit. Don't get allowing yourself to be superplexed. Just seems kinda counterproductive. The Southern brawl portions of this were great. The goofy stuff dragged it down a little.
  18. Another cool dynamic in this fight. Shamrock is clearly the superior grappler and Flynn has an edge in striking. I liked Shamrock's going with the momentuum of submission attempts to stifle them when Flynn started to catch him. Seemed like Flynn was the junior guy in the match from the start, so I'll back garretta up on that point for sure.
  19. I really liked this. The dynamic was really spot-on. Takahashi as the disrespectful vet forcing Ishikawa to earn even the tiniest thing he got was awesome. Takahashi appears to have a significant weight advantage and uses it and his wrestling skills to stifle any kind of takedown attempts by Ishikawa and pretty much get his at will. Ishikawa is quicker on the mat and able to get himself into advantageous positions, but he isn't better enough on the mat to be able to hold the more powerful and experienced Takahashi long enough to get anything. Great stuff. The slaps were pretty brutal, the headbutts were great, but there was a story underneath all of that making it a lot better than just some brutal stiff shots. I could have done with more openness in the presentation (television-wise) on how many points each man started with, etc. for PWFG as a whole.
  20. This is amazing. Dutch plays up how dangerous things are and so does his dog! Even if that dog looks like it could rip DWB limb from limb, it is obviously not inclined to go anywhere near him out of fear. Dutch being disgusted by DWB and DWB not at all acknowledging it are awesome ways to play this. Segment of the show for sure.
  21. I enjoyed Stan's selling of the ear standing next to Corny yelling out his promo a lot. The heel schtick of using headgear after your head got shaved is such a fun trope of Southern wrestling.
  22. I enjoyed the use of the Morton/Gibson breakup in WCW. Morton did a great job of acting like a man who has repented for his sins and wants to make amends. Was expecting more out of Fuller, but there is more to come so he may pick things up.
  23. Loved Rude's performance. Jesse saying that he was going to be biased this time was kind of funny. Then he went back to the woman beater thing which needed to never start in the first place. Finish sucked, are we painting Nikita as a complete moron? I loved the backstage brawl stuff with the heel locker room ganging up on NIkita and the faces coming in for the save. Brian Pillman hogpiling on at the end was awesome!
  24. I liked the innovative ref bump as well. Never seen that one before. I wondered whether we would get the "babyface won with the chain being reversed" Memphis finish, but we didn't. I gotta wonder how many MSC main events ever had a real finish that didn't involve some sort of nonsense thing happening where the loser was absolved? Has to be in the single digits for both the 80s and 90s.
  25. Kinda iffy promo from Vader, but he intensity was there. No worse than Warrior on the stick. Harley was good, could have used more of him since Jesse was way off.
