2005 is when he had the Meltzer ***** triple threat, the Abyss cage match, a high end match vs Joe and the two ironman matches vs Daniels right? That's a stacked resume for just one year.
-
I said it lacked direction in SELLING, which you didn't even try to argue against. It was a good match. It could've been great had the limbwork been better or if they had bothered to create more struggle around the armwork by selling more dramatically.
-
I know I liked the big Bullet Club vs ROH 6 man tag and some New Japan tag better. It was a very good match, no bones about it, but for a match based mostly on limbwork it lacked direction in selling to truly reach greatness.

Teri Funku and Dori Funku Junia. OJ is that legit? If so awesome. Tehnically it's ドリー・ファンク・ジュニア/Dorii Fanku Junia & テリー・ファンク/Terii Fanku. Japanese phonology is simple and logical, unlike its english counterpart. Kawada and Taue win my heart.

Nominating Jun Akiyama & Akitoshi Saito.

You should watch more of Misawa and Kawada in different environments (i.e. NOT 40 minute epics) so you can realise how ridiculous that claim is. Same for Kobashi although he isn't as good as the aforementioned two. Suggest me some matches. I've liked the early 90s six mans I've seen so I would want something else for variety. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bpd3_fvN_ZI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ssra6Svglp0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ6vcKzoG80

Lynch/Banks ruled and I expected it to. Becky is the best female wrestler currently employed by the WWE that actively competes, in my humble estimation. Zayn threw some really good punches in the main event, if they give him a Piledriver he's a lock for a top ten finish if the GWE project is redone in 2026.

Being compared to Tanahashi isn't exactly flattering.

Nominating: Tatsuhito Takaiwa Masakatsu Funaki
-
I wanted to nominate him but couldn't find any reviews for that sake. I'd be shocked to find 100 guys I like better. His run may have not lasted long put he had a lot of high end matches during it and even managed to produce quality work in TNA.
-
Not much to say about him except that he's been consistently good for a long period of time and will rank in the bottom half for me.

Most overrated wrestler in history whose success is based on his looks and Vince managing to program him to do x chinlocks in a match. He wouldn't have been a great wrestler in a different era-if anything he is the wrestler that has benefited the most from the tools of modern society. The greatest things about Orton are all based not on his ring work but his short temper and creative people on the internet making something from nothing. See-RKO vines, I'll go to the papers if I have to, yelling "STUPID!" at Kofi Kingston etc. The only positive thing I can say about him is that he has a nice Powerslam, which is canceled out by his shitty punches. He's carriable, but so what?

You almost make it sound like I begrudge anyone for jumping to WWE. I'm really not an indy guy. And I don't need patronizing explanations of why guys jump to WWE. If they use WWE tropes in their matches in ways that bother me I'll hold that against them in rating their matches. Their personal dilemmas (or the lack thereof) mean nothing to me. Elaborate on what you mean by "certain styles of wrestling" (a nice way of saying All Japan cosplaying I presume) and I might actually have something to reply to.

No one is forcing a promotion to self-restrict. I actively hold it against WWE that they do, not because there's a lack of guys stiffing each other for real but because of how formulaic their matches are.Yeah you can hold it against WWE and thats finebut can you hold it against the wrestlers working there, and any other wrestlers that didn't have the freedom to do the kind of stuff Misawa was doingYes because they chose cash money over artistic freedom.

Daniel has moved away from pro-wrestling and the puro board that hosted the project has died as a result. For shame. If it means anything to you here are the results of said project: http://puroresufan.com/discuss/showthread.php?tid=2569 I also participated but my "reviews" are pretty cringeworthy. Though in retrospective I'd say I did quite well for a 15 year old.

[1994-02-20-WCW-Superbrawl IV] Arn Anderson vs Steven Regal
GOTNW replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
I can totally see why some wouldn't like this match or find it boring. You have to actually pay attention to appreciate it. If you do you can't really miss Arn's vicious armwork and Regal stiffing the shit ouf of him with uppercuts/headbutts etc. You have to love how Regal spices his holds up by crossfacing and palm striking his opponents whilst applying said holds. It's a thing of beauty.- 29 replies

Not being great after 1989 is often a criticism against Fujinami, but I don't think it matters that much. Yes, his quality of work dropped off, but he's been a consistently good pro wrestler for TWENTY FIVE fucking years after an amazing 12 or so year peak. Surely longevity alone should compensate for a lack of a higher amount of great matches after his peak?

Akiyama is fucking amazing and I'll probably be the high vote for him. I have some bias which I shall now explain. You see, a lot of the characters in Japan are based on the idea of being "the strongest" and workers seem to have the mindset of wanting to be eternal champions of their promotions, which is a perfectly normal thing to strive for. Akiyama, while immensely talented, was slightly different. His character was never presented in that vein, he would regularly lose most of the strike exchanges and tests of strenght and have to use tactics and intelligence to overcome his "stronger" opponents. His anxiety issues prevented him from ever becoming the top guy. So, I find him somewhat relatable and he is a favourite of mine. But, favouritism aside, I can't call him objectively better than Misawa or Kawada, though I'd easily put him over Kobashi.

I presume they didn't want Akiyama jobbing to Takayama, which is also likely since their first major singles match was in 2010.

Current favorite wrestler to watch: Luke Harper Last fun match you saw: Jay Briscoe vs Jimmy Jacobs from ROH TV March 21st Wrestler you want to see more of: Dalton Castle Last live show attended (if applicable/different from last time you answered): The closest wrestling gets to me is like a 4 hour drive to a WWE house show every x years. So never. Match you're most looking forward to watching: Ishii vs Makabe because it will feature Makabe smashing Ishii's skull into the ringpost Last fun interview/promo you saw: The Suzuki-gun interview after the MiSu-Marufuji title match Last interesting thing you read about wrestling: I generally find wrestling satire to be obnoxious and forced but kayfabe news is pretty much my favourite site. "F" destroyed me. Last worthwhile podcast you listened to: / Most fun you've had watching wrestling lately: watching Maeda shoot kick people
