Interesting to see Nancy Sullivan next to Kevin (if you blink you will miss it) even though Woman had been gone for almost a year.- 9 replies

I would guess Dustin would've been right alongside Sting, Savage, and Hogan at the top of the babyface food chain in the early Nitro era. He was already teaming with Savage and Sting against the Stud Stable guys when he got fired, so who knows. Dustin vs. Sullivan and the Dungeon of Doom seems like a natural fit with the Dusty-Sullivan history.

He was supposed to face Nailz. That's the angle they started up before the Royal Rumble and they were even on the cover of the magazine. I'm guessing Nailz would've eliminated Taker in the Rumble instead of the Gonzalez interference happening. Anyone know when they signed Giant Gonzalez? Was he already coming in before Nailz got fired for something else? Since he didn't get any vignettes and just showed up, it sure seems like he was hot shotted into the picture. -
It's generally come to encompass the study of insects, arachnids, worms, slugs, and pretty much anything of that nature. Arachnology would be the more accurate choice of words for spiders or scorpions. I enjoy that wrestling related discussions can go it all sorts of directions you would never expect lol! That said, I enjoy this rap version the best and while that Flair-Luger match is my favorite ever between them, Lex vs. Dr Death would've definitely been interesting.

The Rock'n'Wrestling cartoon theme. It was mentioned right in the post above yours. Real American was originally for Windham and Rotunda, but they didn't last long with it. Kamala also had his jungle music in 1986 if that counts. Just tuned into Cham Wrestling from first week of sept 85 and Randy finally has his music. Hopefully Bulldogs get theirs soon. I went through a old house show from 85 and Hogan has his cartoon theme from the Boston october show when he wrestled Bundy so I presume the change happened then. Did Windham/Rotunda have the theme on any TV taping that may have been televised? Here is a match against Ron Shaw and Mr. X. -

That could be the case. I know Meltzer talked about Magee after his All Japan debut, so he was already on Dave's radar before his WWF "tryout". Magee even got third runner up for PWI Rookie of the Year in 1986, so he wasn't an unknown by any stretch even in the kayfabe magazines. But I don't know when the Bret-Magee story popped up first. Earliest I can find with a quick search is a WOL show from 2004. But I didn't read the Observer so maybe it was around way back when it happened?
-
I'm guessing Bret just told Meltzer the Magee story and he talks about it as if it's fact. Bret was one of his sources afterall, he's going to print that stuff without any reason to question. There isn't any real evidence to think there was any truth to the story other then a Bret anecdote. Not to mention they weren't exactly looking to replace Hogan in 1986. Same reason every Flair story like the ridiculous "he was supposed to beat Hogan in their WCW Clash rematch" has been discredited by every single person there that would know. But Flair was Meltzer's first hand source and that's what Flair wanted, so his version becomes the dirtsheet "fact" and then internet lore. Same with Pillman, and no different than Waltman with Keller. Everyone's sources are honest because they couldn't possibly be just working a different medium to get over with a different audience. If Bret's match with Magee was so good, how come they didn't debut Magee on TV in a match with Bret to get over in front of the national audience?

Nah. Orton is probably gonna have the biggest entrance pop at the Rumble, it'll be a nice "surprise". I think I'd save Orton's return until Rollins cashes in his briefcase. Orton comes in, RKOs him to a huge pop, and you set them up for Wrestlemania with Orton having cost him the sure title win.

Weird, I just watched the first episode of TE Season 1 last night, and I don't remember Morrison being on it. Was it a blink and you miss it thing? Morrison was season 3. I think Dunn is here and there throughout all the seasons.

Hasn't Luger been on the WWE payroll since 2011 as a wellness counselor? And he's interviewed in tons of things for the network including the Savage Blu-Ray. I don't think there is any grudge at all.

In this internet age, you can't erase stuff like this. In a matter of a few minutes anyone can access to videos of Chyna getting fucked by two (or more) guys. So yeah. There's no way she's getting in, if only because of this. And quite frankly, Chyna sucked back then too. Okay, maybe the Hall of Fame is out, but in general reference to her relationship with the company, I can see how possibly time could be a healer in that situation. Then again I did just glance her Twitter and she put up a rather negative response to something Stephanie said about the wellness program. So maybe not. They put in Mike Tyson and he's a convicted rapist. I don't think a couple of pornos would be the reason she wouldn't go in.

He went in with Dusty, Lawler, and JR, so a pretty loaded class.

A lot of people that had already bought tickets for the PPV. It had some of their best early ticket sales in some time when they announced the main event locally, then of course the whole company got turned upside down. -
With the Demolition and Powers of Pain mentions, have to wonder if they might get in. Ray Stevens sounds like he's going in. Rude is a good choice, but if Savage and Stevens have both passed, they may want some living members. Other living possibles: Kevin Nash Sid Vader Rick Martel King Kong Bundy Bushwhackers/Sheepherders Steiner Brothers Nasty Boys Honky Tonk Man Brutus Beefcake (won't go in with Hogan inducting Savage) Ivan Koloff Ken Patera (he's popped up on some Network stuff) Larry Zbyszko (him also) Michael Hayes/Freebirds

Definitely adds a unique possible influence which hadn't even been hinted at before. Doubt the Mid-South thing mattered, but just a personal relationship that never clicked. Then again, Savage was negotiating with the company in late 1996, so maybe something happened then as well that ticked someone off just as much as anything before. -
Have the exact same scenario, but no clue what the problem is with Firefox. It's been that way for almost a month now.

Late 91 or early 92, they also had a Berzerker vs. Barbarian match that aired on Primetime. I did listen to an interview with Barry Darsow and he said he actually came up with the Repoman gimmick and fully intended that it would end up a babyface for comic relief, but Vince never made the turn. But maybe he and Papa Shango was a test match to see how the crowd responded? -
At the time I did wonder why Booker was getting the belt on the final show and just figured Steiner wasent part of the buying contracts. Steiner also had an injured foot so they were going to move the title regardless that night.

Count me in for 1990. For star power, past and future, you had Hogan, Warrior, Savage, Dusty, Jake, Andre, Piper, Martel, Hennig, Rude and then Bret, Shawn, and Tenta to be future main eventers. And I think the finish with Hogan, Rude, and Perfect is great with the accidental elimination of Rude and Hennig taking the huge tossout over the turnbuckle instead of just over the top rope. Plus, Garvin and Valentine was an incredible match, one of my favorites as a big Garvin fan.

Hi guys. My name is Rob, 35 years old from Sioux City, Iowa. Went to the University of Iowa, thus the username, although I didn't wrestle there, but a big fan of NCAA wrestling as well as the pros. Watched bits and pieces growing up but really became a full fledged fan after the Main Event in 1989, Twin Towers vs. Megapowers and into Wrestlemania V. A couple months later started following the NWA on TBS just as closely in the aftermatch of Terry Funk's attack on Ric Flair. Small down period between '93 and '95 watching sparingly until Nitro debuted and brought me back, along with RAW taping from Sioux City after WM12 after I'd gotten into the build to the Ironman match leading up. Being an Iowa guy, I'd put Frank Gotch in my favorite wrestlers list even though my knowledge of him comes largely from Mike Chapman's works and bits and pieces from other historians. Loved the Apter magazines as a kid, never subscribed to the Observer or Torch, although read some from time to time online. Top ten favorites all time Hulk Hogan Frank Gotch Bobby Eaton Barry Windham Jake Roberts Nick Bockwinkel Arn Anderson Kevin Von Erich Dustin Rhodes Ronnie Garvin
