  1. It was Sacred Heart, though in the 80s he did claim to be a Harvard graduate. I don't remember Vince ever claiming it, but Jesse would call him that sometimes or mention an Ivy League education. I think it was more a generic, sarcastic way to put over that Vince was born with a silver spoon (when in fact he really wasn't) by a heel, not an actual attempt to claim he went there.
  2. Because WCW didn't put him with his own leprechaun?

    Hulk Hogan

Agreed, Brock was only the star he was in UFC because he'd been in the WWE and pushed as their top guy. Otherwise he was just another former NCAA wrestler in MMA.
  4. Lance Storm and eventually William Regal. But it didn't start for a good nine months after 9/11.
  5. Don't really buy that theory. If that hadn't unified the titles, he'd have the record by now anyway but reigns will just be fewer and further between now.
  6. Jeff Hardy's "spineline" in TNA around the end of the one hour Wednesday shows and debuting Impact on FSN.
  7. That's what they called it on TV. He used it to put Big Show out at No Way Out 2003 IIRC.
  8. All four of the initial GWF tournaments (TV, Light Heavyweight, Tag Team, and North American) were 24 man or team tournaments. They were billed as "European style" likely to play up that the GWF was billed as having offices all over the world with headquarters in Barcelona, Spain. All the tourneys had a coin flip to determine the semifinal and who got a bye to the final.
  9. Robbie V wrestled Raven in WCW once when he was (I think) Scotty Flamingo. Kind of a weird bit of ECW foreshadowing. Actually come to think of it I am not sure those two even had a major match in ECW, which makes it even stranger. They never had an ECW TV match to my knowledge. They wrestled once on Smackdown, and they were on opposite sides once and teammates once on Impact. Otherwise only battle royals together for TV. They did have a house show run in WWF when RVD was hardcore champion.
  10. How about Ivan Koloff's brief 1990 WCW return where I think he may have had just one TV match and a promo where he put over the Horsemen.
  11. It's quite easy. You just don't mention wrestling history on your broadcast. Unless is Mania season in which by this time the story will have passed. He also won't be erased. Everyone knows Hogan, it's Hogan, the references will just be smartly relaxed. Absolutely terrible play from Hogan. In public or in private, those be dickheadish remarks to make that someone on the role of a company ambassador should avoid. The comments are eight years old, not recent. He hadn't even gone to TNA yet when they were made let alone an "ambassador" for WWE at that point.
  12. They always seem to recycle the 'impersonations' gimmick every few years as Big Show briefly did it in the early 2000s as a way to 'show his personality', even defeating Kurt Angle on a PPV imitating Hogan as 'The Showster'. Stevie Richards did it also shortly after he debuted in 1999.
  13. Damn shame, too. A neon-wearing D-list actor called "Hollywood" Bob with a thick hick accent could have been all kinds of awesome. Everything about that gimmick was glorious cheese. It's just too bad he didn't transition right over into the WWF with that. We didn't get to see a glimpse of that personality again until the Big Shot stuff and Crash. All the Backlund talk on the board recently reminded me that Bob returned to "manage" Kurt Angle for about two weeks back in 2001. So there's that. Plus they were trying to have Kurt adopt the Chicken Wing as his submission finisher at that time, which THEN reminded me... Of that time when they were trying to push the ankle lock as Batista's new submission finisher. I want to say it was around 2009 or so. It was definitely before the big heel turn against Rey, when it was just kind of dropped. Don't remember the ankle lock thing for Batista, but he did have a brief run using the clothesline as a finish. I think it was Jericho he KOed on RAW, and they kept it up for a few weeks in summer 2004 when he faced Edge and Jericho at Summerslam for the IC title. The Executioner was cool just because at one point Dok Hendrix interviewed Paul Bearer, Mankind, and the Executioner. A Freebird reunion! And he even got a Jakks figure with that gimmick.
  14. Sniper and Recon were actually Armageddon.
  15. Dustin Runnels in 1998 WWF feuding with Val Venis.
  16. 1999 was a new deal IIRC, specifically bringing him in as talent for the hardcore division. Guessing he just didn't wrestle very much in the couple years off.
  17. When I saw this on TMZ I lost all respect for him. This. Once I heard that, he went from harmless wrestler con artist to disgusting human being. Somewhat strange that you guys had that (still have that?) reaction (albeit initially I understand), because that's when Hogan went on Larry King and buried TMZ for not putting out the full conversation (which did come out eventually), and kind of won back the court of public opinion on the whole deal. He simply told the truth and knew he would be backed up. Definitely learned from the Arsenio steroid appearance in that one, honestly really is the best policy!

    Hulk Hogan

Hogan got the belt a week or two after they split the brands, that's more what caused the downturn in ratings. In comparison to what came after he very well have been a factor in keeping them decent for the extra month, rather than being a reason for a decline. Maybe a further extended Hogan run actually would've been beneficial, but you only can judge that in hindsight and knowing the bottom fell out after he dropped the belt to Undertaker. Hogan's month as champ outdrew Rock's month that summer, so who knows.
  19. Even though the NWO petered out after WMX8, I think they could've gotten more out of Hennig the night he faced Austin on RAW had he joined back up with them. They even had the NWO approach him backstage IIRC, but he declined their help. Instead he got beat by Austin, the NWO still came out and broke the block on Austin's leg, but Hennig was not a part of it. He would've been fine in the post WM group when Big Show and Xpac rejoined when they were dropped to midcard anyway. Wouldn't have needed Booker to join and Booker/Goldust tags matches vs. NWO would've kept them relevant until HHH returned and they could have whatever payoff they wanted there.
  20. I've always heard that he's technically not a Jr. because it's Vincent J. McMahon and Vincent K. McMahon. Apparently, the middle initial makes a difference. This is correct. I'm guessing Vince doesn't like Junior because a lot of the boys that worked for his dad called him that as kind of a demeaning way as a nickname (that's how I take it when Piper does it), like they want to feel superior and talk down to him. Others that just call him Vince, Jr in media to clarify would be a different situation as their is no disrespect intended.
  21. There was a story I remember from 95 where they put Hogan vs Kamala on the Sunday Main Event, which was shown live before a PPV, because they didn't want to pay him the $300k. That was a Clash of the Champions, not a PPV. And Hogan appeared on the Clash in the segment where he entered the Dungeon of Doom, got attacked by the Giant and saved by Vader.
  22. I was actually there live at that taping and that's one of the matches that still stands out in my mind, mainly because of that particular ending.
  23. Modest got a non-title Cruiserweight win on Nitro vs. the Artist FKAPI, but it was unfortunately the last show Sullivan booked before Russo returned in 2000 so it was quickly forgotten.
  24. Interesting to read that considering Dave is adamant about beating the drum every time WWE says it doesn't consider UFC competition.
  25. He also was Luger's mystery partner against the Big Cat and Motor City Madman on TV, although they just ran them off and never had a real match. If he hadn't shown up on the heel team in the Chamber of Horrors at Halloween Havoc '91 kind of out of nowhere, you wouldn't realize he'd jumped sides again.
