  1. Considering fans were chanting for Goldberg after Brock destroyed Orton at Summerslam, I find it kind of funny that anyone would think the fans don't want to see it or don't know who Goldberg is.
  2. Booing the Rock in the buildup? Seemed Rock generally had the crowd support more often than not from what I remember, only problem was WM was in Texas so what came before wasn't going to matter for the actual show.
  3. Another interesting one since both were mentioned, although different years, almost exactly a year apart (371 days), Goldust and Jeff Jarrett met at Fully Loaded 1998 and then Starrcade 1999.
  4. No, he didn't talk I don't think, he couldn't. It was a "Hey, look who's here !" moment. Sable did it too when Russo was in charge (or maybe they were together, but I doubt it), but they could not use her anyway. DUMBFUCKERY. Mero had a confrontation with Tank Abbott in 2000 when he was seated in the front row.
  5. They had a favored nations clause where their contracts would be raised if someone else came in with a bigger contract, so they'd always be at least a top five paid guy (or whichever number it was). When they first came in, I think they matched the LOD, when Bret came in, they bumped up, etc. Kind of like the NFL franchise-tag, where guys are kept under contract an extra year, but have to be paid the average of the top five guys at their position (or more), or they become an unrestricted free agent.
  6. Sure it wasn't him and Berzerker vs. Undertaker? He didn't manage Kamala in '92. I liked the Fuji/Tanaka vs. Barbarian/Haku match from MSG where Heenan takes a face full of salt. Must have been the only time (in WWF at least) he came close to being a babyface. Kamala was actually a sub for the Berzerker on those matches.
  7. They've updated most of the 1986-89 WCW episodes now, including the 9/17/88 episode that had never aired previously. What other episodes were pre-empted or "joined in progress" over the years to be on the lookout for?
  8. His last matches were handicap matches with Kamala vs Undertaker. I would really like to see his match vs. Heenan from 1991, which was his last match before those.
  9. They are doing a Draft Center on the Network at the same time as Smackdown to do just that, with a pre and post show of thirty minutes.
  10. ECW on TNN was first. But yeah, it's weird that they haven't done all of Raw and Smackdown. SNMEs were up before ECW, granted they only amount to 40 or so episodes.
  11. I wonder if Tatanka will be brought back again? He was in the Andre battle royal at WM and got a good response. It'd be unprecedented (I think) for a guy to return after a ten year absence once, and then another ten year absence as a full time roster guy again. I guess Animal was similar but he wasn't quite as long between runs. I could see Too Cool returning as well if they want to beef up two separate tag divisions.
  12. A couple I enjoyed "out of left field" were Luke Williams Guest Booker, where I found out just how instrumental he'd been booking throughout his career as I had no idea he'd been involved in that. And also Eric Embry's shoot where Steve Corino interviews him. Good insight on a lot of things, and I was a big fan of his run as World Class booker so specifically that part was of interest. The Nasty Boys are always a pretty good listen as well, kind of like Raven, where they were a part of enough territories right before they made it big to still have some really good stories from those experiences.
  13. The segment ran in the area where they wrestled, I think it was Providence, RI where they did two matches. They also wrestled in Winnipeg, and Jake's promo for that one was on youtube for awhile. That was right before WM3, and I think he'd already taped his face turn before they actually had their match, just hadn't aired nationally yet.
  14. The classic orange are my favorites that he wore often, pink wasn't too bad either (WM3). But the silver and black from Summerslam '89 might be my favorite for a one off as I can't remember him wearing them again. Probably just since they matched Zeus.
  15. Don't think David ever pinned his dad. He did have him in the figure four after Ric was beaten down, but Megan Flair threw in the towel. Then they shaved his head afterwards. Ric beat him on the PPV, and Russo pinned Ried in the other tag match on Nitro. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2n5o4_ric-flair-vs-vince-russo-david-flai_sport
  16. It was actually Butcher Vachon that slammed him, not Mad Dog (unless he did it another time). Butcher did it in the handicap match where he teamed with Larry Hennig against Andre at Soldier Field in 1972 that's available on tape.
  17. How do those rectangular, obviously-not-square sections register as being anything close to "25x25"? Yeah I switched it to 15x30 after I first posted. The 25x25 was more to average it out altogether as the ringside sections are shaped differently than the rectangles, then I decided to just look at those by themselves. But if you take the 20 rectangle sections themselves and get about 9,000, the ringside sections could certainly be close to 4,000 more. The seats immediately around the ring are about 500 people each plus another few sections up against the sidelines but they kind of run together in that photo.
  18. Is it possible that the Detroit Lions also exaggerated the seating capacity of the building? I know Meltzer said that he got the 78K figure from actual documentation from the show provided to him by Zane Bresloff. To some extent they may have exaggerated, but probably not by more than a 1000 here or there based on what counted as capacity. They built the place to be the largest stadium in the country in 1975, they wouldn't have had any reason to lie when they could've just made it even bigger if necessary to be number one. To my eye on the floor, those individual sections have to be roughly 15x30 people average (a few are shaped differently), so 450 per section. Looks like at least 20 sections, so at least 9000 people on the floor. That's probably low. In fact it may be 20 sections not counting the actual ringside sections, hard to tell where some end and some begin.
  19. I've never heard Hogan change his WM3 story to be honest, but other folks sure seem to make that a running joke. He always tells it with the similar attendance and weight. And the Metallica and Fujinami stories were explained in much more detail on Jericho's podcast if you are interested. He goes into pretty good detail on both. I always knew something had to be true about it when they brought in Danny Hodge of all people to referee between them, and sure enough he explained it and brought it up with Jericho. That said, the Undertaker quote on Hogan Knows Best was clearly hyperbole, he was making an old guy joke about being old. Incidentally he's told the full story of the Tombstone at Survivor Series before also, and obviously noted he never made actual contact with the chair, but his head got jammed on Taker's thighs which made it worse because the impact wasn't what you prepare yourself for, caused a stinger. Taker doing it on the chair probably made him overcompensate to protect Hogan, and unfortunately that can happen. Meltzer's denial that Andre was ever 7 foot has to be up there. Andre was taller than the Giant Warrior and Tyler Mane even when he was broken down in All Japan 1990. Both of those are legit 7" or close, certainly bigger than 6'10". That and 78K being the "real number" when it so obviously doesn't mesh with the Lion's attendance at games that's already been mentioned. Bret's claim that he never injured another wrestler, despite guys like Bad News vehemently disagreeing. Iron Sheik's claims of being in the Olympics.
  20. Outlaw Joel Deaton. I don't think he was ever intended to be a jobber, he unfortunately only had the one angle during his brief time there. A series of 3 matches with Rich and a tag match Rich/Gilbert vs. Deaton/Samu (during Samu's month or so run where he was not affiliated with the SST for whatever reason). Not sure he had any other TV matches outside Saturday nights.
  21. Papa Shango and Godfather were more memorable because of the colorful gimmicks, but personally I enjoyed his run as Kama the best in 1995. His matches with Undertaker were pretty good, the casket match at Summerslam being a favorite of mine. His draw with HBK at KOTR was a pretty good match, although I'll admit I haven't watched that show for some time. And his brawl with Mongo McMichael (doing commentary on RAW six months before he would debut with Nitro) was one of the more exciting moments during that year on RAW in the buildup to LT and BBB.
  22. Yeah, that one suspends too much disbelief. I haven't watched any of those matches (life is to short to watch TNA) but wasn't there a time when somebody won a title shot but one of the actual losers of the match got a title shot before the winner did? It could have been in another stip match or tournament but I recall Meltzer saying something like that a few years ago. Probably, it's like the MITB briefcase, you cash it in whenever you want.
  23. Rock will keep coming back to stay fresh with the audience. He learned his lesson the first time he tried to distance himself and Dwayne Johnson turned out of be a pretty big flop as an action star, and instead settled into kid's movies and secondary roles. He's admitted his ex-wife is the one that told him to go back and become the Rock again to recapture that audience, and it revitalized his career in Hollywood. He will never make that same mistake again IMO. Certainly doesn't hurt WWE to use him as well, but the idea that they need him more than vice versa is kind of silly. We already saw how that played out several years back. I'd guess he'd want to keep that up whether Vince is around or not, especially when he's given carte blanche to do pretty much whatever he wants when he is there.
  24. Ricki Nelson vs. George South was another match on Saturday Night.
  25. I don't think it was a tournament, and it really didn't last very long (unless it was on Worldwide as well which I didn't get then). The week after Cook and Maggs is Ian Weston vs. John Peterson with an ugly rollup finish.
