Ric Flair: The most overrated wrestler of all time
Outsider replied to stro's topic in The Microscope
Smarks put too much weight on his in ring capabilities. Flair was able to achieve greatness because he was reliable. And he was a great promoter. Yes now his matches seem to be not so great. But you have to imagine how great he was when he was great. For instance his robe. Now it might not even mean anything, but in 1983 he would be in awe of the whole package. Allot of matches look so sloppy from 2017 eyes. But back then they "believed" even if they still thought it might be a work. I think Flair should be judged on matches that he knew were going to be seen by millions of fans, like the clash shows. The Funk feud was amazing. But again he was doing a job and like most of us know some people don't always give 100%. But when the boss is watching or you need a raise the work improves. Ok sorry for blabbing on and on. Same with Hogan in the late 80s. He was rarely in a match on TV. His TV promos were usually a 10/10. Most people considered Hogan #1 and wished to see him and Flair. But in 2017 eyes you see how limited Hogan was. I mean if you followed the WWF from house show to show you could have seen Hogan more. But in my area Hogan came 2 or 3 times at most per year. I would be lucky to see him once. -
Between the Sheets #80 (January 25-31, 1992)

Yeah I remember that press conference like yesterday. I was in 4th grade. Anyway from memory I remember Undertaker, Piper, Savage, Hogan, and Sid. Then Sid wants to rip thick book. Flair Perfect in back Anyway thank you both for this show. You don't know how much of a relief it is to turn off the stupid TV, and turn on my Bluetooth speaker to listen to this show. And thank you for not mentioning that ignorant cock sucking piece of shit pedophile, TRUMP. That's what I love about these classic pods, the escape from all the bull shit in this world, mostly Drumph. -

Thanks! I'm gonna look for that show on YouTube! -
He was a definitely over in 89 -90 when i was huge fan. Not just about work, his kneeling down on 1 knee and the wooh wooh wooh! His entrance music was great. His physique looked great on TV. When Honky hit him on Brother Love Show with the guitar. Unfortunately as a kid you never know why certain wrestlers are not being pushed anymore. But as a draw he has to be up there in every promotion he was a part of. GOD bless the Superfly, "bradah!"

Thanks again for doing my childhood years. Anyway the game you were talking about on NES, Wrestlemania came out January 89. I had it and yes it did suck. But for some reason everybody wanted to borrow it. The second one came out in 1990 and I loved it. I remember there was a Video Game TV show on before school started and they had tournaments of this game. Does anyone know the name of this show? I order on Amazon allot and do it on my smart phone. How can I contribute to the cause? Is there a link or mobile code? Great show, very interesting about Jon Studd. I remember him being a Battle Royal specialist. Meltzer does really shit on WWF but I guess at his age it must have been like watching a kids show. Kind of like watching current WWE. -

Great show and everyone have Merry Xmas and Happy New Year! ⛄ -
Between the Sheets #75: December 21-27, 1992 My uncle recorded that Regis episode for me when I little. And Summerslam. (He was excited to use his new VCR at the time) Anyway I absolutely love that segment where he teases Kathy Lee. It was all innocent fun until she started talking shit in her book. I believe she also was disgusted with the Bushwackers. Bix you described that "chase scene" exactly right. Fuck her. Regis was so happy. I love when Regis does the Rude gyrations! Bobby was great as usual. Rude was the best at promoting events. And Kris are you serious saying Frank Gifford would be a threat to Rude. That's like saying Jimmy Hart is a threat to Haku! WCW: Flair had interesting time in his WWF 1st run but no matter if it was good or bad, just taking a detour in New York elevates your status and fame tremendously. After the Brain Busters finished up in WWF Arn Anderson said he was way more famous. Even already popular guys like Dusty were even more over once they went back to WCW. 123 kid was a joke to me but when he showed up in WCW he became way more interesting! As a kid I was so excited to see stars from other promotions in another company. Thanks

Where the Big Boys Play #90: Slamboree 1993
Outsider replied to soup23's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I remember seeing the Sheik on the promotional poster when I was 10 or 11 years old. I was always fascinated by him from the stories and crazy pics in the magazines. I eventually got to see him at Havoc '95 and he didn't disappoint. The sheik had to be super old by then. Funny thing is that their greatest legend Ric Flair wasn't there. And it was almost impossible to know who they were because wrestling is like local news every region has their stars but outside of their region they are unknown. And even if you had the Internet, it was slow as hell until the 2000. There were no video sites in 90s. -

I'm addicted to your shows PRE-1995! Maybe an NWA on demand podcast would be your niche. And one without current talk. Strictly NWA. ...anyway... I love your research in the shows and would like to know if the "tiny.url" bts thing works on mobile devices? I want to help the show but I use Amazon app. -
The rugged voice the crazy eyes the larger than life attitude!

When the Macho Man was a boy with his younger brother Lanny, they traveled with their father to different territories including Hawaii. Randy was decent wrestler at the time but didn't have confidence in his promo ability. After watching one of his favorite wrestlers he figured out his famous tag-line! "Ooh Yeaaah!" Who was it that inspired one of the greatest entertainers of all-time? It was Pampero Firpo! Watch this clip on dailymotion: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x53pw95_pampero-firpo-promo_shortfilms

[1990-01-20-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Hulk Hogan
Outsider replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
IF u watch back the awesome promos leading up to WM6. You will see that Hogan is not confident that he will win! He says something like if the warrior can take the hulkamainiacs or something. I'm sure somebody can help me find it. It's like he is making excuses for losing. It was stupid. It was like your favorite team losing and the QB says to now be a fan of the winning team. That was the problem with that match. It was awesome but what do we do after.. should we hate warrior for beating our hero. Should we hate Hogan for letting us down? Hogan played the sympathy card that year as he left the ring after mania6 and after Quake crushes his ribs. I still have my postcard frpm hulk and got my red and yellow bracelet. But Hulkamania ended when he agreed to do the feud with Iraq. I wasn't feeling it and was sooo Happy when Sid Vicious came to wwf. But as fans we don't know that his run would be so short. I felt Sid could have been the face of wwf. Then warrior comes back and abandons us few months later. I already had abandonment issues!- 19 replies

Greatest single year in pro wrestling history?

90 was good too. I absolutely love Great American Bash 1990. When Vader debuts it's bad ass. Every match is exciting. Buddy Landel has fun opening bout. -
Greatest single year in pro wrestling history?
Outsider replied to Microstatistics's topic in Pro Wrestling
I love '89 and instead of naming matches I would calculate how many guys or percentage of guys who are "over!" Look at WWF and I bet most of us over 30 ordered something from their catalog that year. U can hate on Honky but he was more over than 90% of current product. You can hate on beefcake but I bet u remember when Ron Bass raked his face! You can hate on Dusty but I know you were singing along to his theme. 89 is the 1st year I got into NWA/WCW Wow so much talent. Without 89 Flair would not be the legend he is today and he made other legends. 89 was No Holds Barred which I saw in theater! And loved it! And yes Zeus was Over. Yes as u smarten up u realize Zeus couldn't work for shit but he but asses in the building and if u don't remember go back and look at how awesome his promos were. He was a scary mofo to a 7 year old. -
After I buy the ROKU device, is this stuff available or will I have to subscribe to a service. Btw. Does anybody use Android tv box thingy. I think it is just Android using some streaming app. I wish I knew how to enter in the channel codes my self. I hate the kodi thing. It confuses me. I Need Ruku. Is roku on current BlueRay players? Because I'm sick of downloading every damn ppv and then having to hook up my laptop to my TV. And using 99% of my 500gb hard drive. 😤

How many matches are from American promotions? I wanna see those and I bet there's an interest in how those ranked compared to each other. So put the promotion in your spreadsheet and filter out the foreign shit.
-
What is the criteria? Because what I love about a good match is the psychology and the story and the energy. I think we need to be more specific. Of course I enjoy great work. But when there is no story it's hard to get excited for a random match. Even squash matches made sense to me because they showcased talent. Anyway. .. My nominee that nobody should argue is Mr. Perfect vs. Chico Santana on SNME. It's the one on the DVD set of SNME. Can't forget Bobby Heenan. I mean how do u rate managers. It has to be on the entertainment factor and the emotions they bring out of you. If they can't make u care about what's going on then they suck.

Drinking Alcohol is just as stupid as drugs but ppl get caught up into it. I hate alcohol but I don't judge everyone who drinks daily after work or whenever. The young generation has no real culture. They just follow their idols whether its Miley, Taylor, or Paige. My point was that women who have trauma are higher risk to abuse chemicals.
-
Paige is a sweet girl and true to herself from the start from what I know and she knows the ins and outs since her mom is in the biz. Anyway I've never been a big gossip blog person but if these drug rumors are true then everybody needs to chill out. Because when I was her age I was partying a hell lot harder than her and most girls I know were too. I think she just wants to be young and sick of the rush to grow up. Probably the reason she did not want to get married. From my experiences with ppl, I think that women with major trauma are more comforted with drugs and have a tougher time staying clean. If thats the case I doubt she is ready for drug tests every week. I'm not an expert and most of my info on her is from her mouth on Total Divas when she talked about her past.

Yeah forgot about that ECW broad. Francine. I was at Hardcore Heaven 1999 in Eagles Ballrooom, Milwaukee. oops I didn't follow my own rules of pre attitude era.
-
I was curious who you all think are the most gorgeous women in professional wrestling - 1995 and earlier! This is kind of funny but Miss Elizabeth was the first celebrity I had a crush on. Like 5 or 6 years old kissing her poster in WWF catalog! LoL! Madusa was sooo hott in AWA and scorching hot in WCW when Ventura was there! MiMi Sherri Martel Jimmy Garvin's girl in WCCW. Sunshine I think was her name? Anyway I hope you enjoy this topic.

Ali is one of the greatest Americans period if not the greatest. He stands for freedom. If you haven't watched "When we were Kings" go watch it now!

How many of your listeners care about Japanese Wrestling? Personally I have no beef with it but just never got into it probably because I don't get that nostalgic high from it like I would from American Wrasslin. Anyway Thanks again for doing a week in my favorite era. '84 - '94.
