The one thing I like about Bruno is he doesn't kill his crowds. When you have a hot crowd the punch-kick punch-kick routine is perfect, that's what I like about Austin's matches, to get the crowd as hot as possible with basic offensive moves. Backlund basically did the opposite and killed the crowd with 10 minute headlocks and holds. The only matches we are really seeing of Bruno are the blowoff matches which are not "technical" at all, they are mostly cage matches so maybe that's why people think he's an average worker. I really want to see more matches against Ivan Koloff, Koloff seems to be his favorite opponent.

The Koloff/Atlas match we have is from 8/22/80 The only Graham/Tiger match is from the 1/7/79. I don't think Graham went completely bald til when, 1982? We have an Ichiban/Tiger match which is labeled as 12/1/78 which is incorrect. I reckon this is from the 12/15/78 card because Mark Lewin comes out at the end and Boesch mentions that he will be in the following match which would be against Bull Ramos. The 12/15/78 card is also the last to have the name 'Ichiban' since his "identity" was revealed as Killer Karl Krupp which he goes back to the next week.

These matches were from a match listing Tharpe posted last year but weren't uploaded. It had been over a year so I didn't worry about them but then the Gino/Kozak match came up yesterday. Lets hope we see these in the coming weeks. TIGER CONWAY SR. and JR. vs. MARK LEWIN / GARY HART 2/9/79 ICHIBAN (with Gary Hart) vs. TIGER CONWAY JR. November 24, 1978 BULL RAMOS vs. MARK LEWIN / 2 out of 3 Falls for the Brass Knucks Title - blood! 12/15/78 NICK KOZAK vs. GINO HERNANDEZ (masked after hair match) SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM (shaved head) vs. TIGER CONWAY JR. MARK LEWIN vs. TIGER CONWAY JR./ 2 out of 3 Falls 1/19/79 GREG VALENTINE (babyface - with Johnny at ringside) vs. GINO HERNANDEZ/ 2 out of 3 Falls 12/22/78 ALBERTO MADRIL vs. GINO HERNANDEZ JOSE LOTHARIO vs. GINO HERNANDEZ (masked) IVAN KOLOFF vs. TONY ATLAS 9/5/80 GINO HERNANDEZ vs. SUGAR BEAR HARRIS (pre-Kamala!) GINO HERNANDEZ vs. EL HALCON 9/5/80 promo - ERNIE LADD / TIGER CONWAY JR. This was on the list too.

Hey Ricky, I'm the poster at KM you're referring to. Glad to know somebody is interested in this. I found a little bit of info about the finish of the Steele match, it may or may not help but thought I'll share it. 8/9/69 Philadelphia, Pa. - Decision reversed when Steele's foot was on the ropes. This is from a Bruno record book made about 10 years ago. I thought this was interesting because George does put his foot under the ropes when he was pinned so that's the date I'm going with for now. As far as the actual match goes, this may be the most entertaining Steele match I've seen. The fans go nuts whenever Bruno is on offense or when Steele is on the outside chasing kids up the aisle, at one point a kid throws a chair at him, no wonder riots took place back then. What George lacks in wrestling ability he surely makes up for it in heel tactics. I hope people give this a look.

I think your right Matt, I keep thinking that one show is on one reel, but I guess with cutting and editing some matches might end up on a different reel.
-
Where are these main events? Just seems odd that we get everything but the main event.
-
You're right Shoe, this was not Don Jardine. Don has a tattoo on the top of his left wrist. I think it might be Siegfried Stanke who wrestled as The Spoiler in Southwest Championship Wrestling around this time.

3 new matches from the 8/14/81 card. I just watched Spoiler v Tiger. What a good solid match this was. Tiger is really turning into a great midcard worker. Midget match was great as always. Midget tag should be fun.

- Finally got to sign in which was a pain in the ass but got it figured out. If anyone needs help just ask. - I hope they add a 'recently added' section, I don't think we want to search the whole site for new matches. - Like the layout, just what I wanted with the thumbnails, but I wished they had included the dates but they will be on the video anyway so it doesn't bother me that much.
-
WOW, new design. Nice improvement. Do we have to sign up again? Does my existing subscription work? If anyone is waking up, the new match uploaded before the new site was Gino Hernandez vs Tiger Conway Nov 30 1979. I think i see a new Jose Lothario promo too.
-
I just read that. That is great news. New pricing feature as well as a Roku app!
-
What happens now? This can't be the end. Just cancelled my yearly subscription which luckily ends this month but I want an answer on the future before paying any more.

Dory v Robinson This felt like the first 20 of a Dory broadway. Just feeling out and being defensive but no one told Dory 20 minutes was the limit. I was waiting for Dory to wake up then finally about 15 minutes in they get going. It was frustrating to watch, I'm glad Billy slapped him to spark some fire but it wasn't happening. Last 5 minutes was good but the rest lacked intensity. Might be better on a second watch. *** Now we wait for Wahoo/Terry.
-
I hope we get Dory v Robinson. Their match in March 82 was really good. Probably the best Dory singles match of the 80s that I've seen.
-
Nice to see some matches uploaded from this card, look at those main events. Hope they have them. Chavo vs Mansfield could be good too. Boesch @ Houston, TX - Sam Houston Coliseum - January 16, 1981 Black Gordman d. Relampago Leon Ivan Putski d. Tank Patton by DQ The Dynamic Duo d. Scott Casey & Tiger Conway Jr. Chavo Guerrero d. Eddy Mansfield Dory Funk Jr. fought Billy Robinson to a draw Wahoo McDaniel d. Terry Funk
-
Gino Hernandez vs. Bob Markus 3/30/79 should be 7/13/79 Matched the crowd in the front row with the Spoiler v El Halcon match and it was the same.
-
Just a few things I noticed recently. The Funks vs Wahoo & Putski match is now the edited version from 'The Best of Houston Wrestling' which has knocked off 10 minutes from the original upload. Strange decision when they have the full match. I also found the Spoiler vs Brody match on youtube which is the same as the one on the site but the one on youtube HAS COMMENTARY with Peter Birkholz (Boesch's Nephew). I get the feeling that Boesch muted any commentary that wasn't him. JOHNNY VALENTINE INTERVIEW: Valentine might not be the greatest talker yet I have to listen to every word he says, he just had a big presence about him. And who would have thought he would be in Wahoo's corner for anything. They must have had a great deal of respect for each other after all the battles that they had.

I was also annoyed by the missing 4 minutes but thankfully it was in the first fall which was 28 minutes so I dont think we really missed that much. Just glad it wasn't the 3rd fall which was EPIC. Hopefully we get the rematch that happened a few weeks later and who knows, it may be better than this one.

Houston Wrestling Results (NWA Classics Research)
NickH replied to KrisZ's topic in Megathread archive
Damn Paul, you are a hard guy to convince. I wouldn't worry about the booking in 1978, Wahoo was a huge draw in Houston so I guess they tried to have as many title matches as they could with him. But Harley did have Wahoo's tights in the 3rd fall so maybe that called for a rematch. As far as clawmasters results, unfortunately he passed away a couple of years ago so whatever results he has that is it. He was more of an AWA guy so dont know how much Houston results he had. But the fact that a 2/10/78 date is missing and with my clipping that a match did take place on that date. Houston ran just about every Friday so if there was a show on Feb 3rd, pretty good chance there was a show on Feb 10th. We really have to wait to see if more matches from this show gets released but for now it's the best we got and I'm sticking with it. If that newspaper clipping I posted above doesn't convince you I dont know what will.
