NWA Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling June 1985

Enjoyed the shows from Florida. Superstar Graham was big in Florida and could get a nice push here. I would love to see Flair have a huge blowout feud with some of the top stars of the NWA like Funk or Martel. -
Very creative to say the least. This will take some getting used to in terms of the roster and name changes. GENOAN NECKTIE is a cool name for a finisher.

The Stud Stable War is great. Honky Tonk fits fine as he along with Rich and GIlbert are the UWF 6 Man Champs so he has always been a part of this stable. The Golden Spike on a Pole Match was classic Southern style wrestling and would have been nerve rattling to watch. Good vs Evil with a "demonic" twist. Monday Nights at the Boutwell might just be the most consistent show in the country right now! -
I must say that there are so many feuds going on here that there is something for everyone. The names are Hall of Fame worthy all throughout the roster and I enjoy that you have some master plan as to when each gets a major push. This roster and organization allows your format to work everywhere in the country and really worldwide. I am also rooting for that complete heel turn by Savage as it just feels right. This would lead nicely to Hogan-Savage down the road....maybe even Wrestlemania II I am unsure of how many hair matches there were in the WWF but I hope this one ends with NOBODY getting their hair cut. The Machine angle is not my favorite and would love to see the masks come off.

Great card for the Tampa fans. I enjoy how well each card has these minor one or two week angels mixed in with your longer feuds. I wonder if we are seeing a set up of Mr. Wrestling II's last big dance. The Stud Stable feud is building up nicely and can't wait to see the winner. Rich and Hot Stuff might be my favorite team of all time as they were so good at both heel and babyface and both excelled on the mic. -
Sorry, didn't see it. My fault.

It seems that we have left Dean Malenko off of our list. Wrestlingdata.com says he debut in 1979 but lists his first matches as 1985. It only lists 7 or 8 matches and he only won one so he is a true work in progress. Should I add him to free agency?

UWF NEWS The only thing we know for certain right now is that Fritz VonErich will not be running USWA Wrestling with Jerry Jarrett any longer. Jarrett made sure to burn all of those bridges immediately following Battleground as he traded the VonErich brothers away. You will have to wait until the end of the week to see where they will be headed. That does not mean that Fritz is completely out of the UWF. Jerry Jarrett has decided to focus his programming to a location he knows better then Texas as he will be returning to his old stomping ground and running his old loop with a few key additions. Monday: Louisville KY or Cincinnati, OH Tuesday: Evansville, IN or Lexington, KY Wednesday: Chattanooga or Jackson, TN Thursday: Memphis or Nashville for the Big Weekly show Friday: St. Louis, MO or Jonesboro, Ar, Saturday: Memphis TV in the morning & Memphis or Nashville at night (alternating weeks) Every city will run once every two weeks except for the two largest, Memphis and Nashville which will run weekly shows. The major change here was that the Mid-South Coliseum show is being moved to either Saturday or Monday. This will allow the UWF champs to continue to visit the major CCW events each and every week. Jarrett also was able to secure venues in both Cincinnati and St. Louis in an attempt to grow the fan base. It is unsure as of this time is Jarrett is going to keep the name of the show USWA Wrestling. He has already changed the name of the USWA Champion to the UWF United States Champion. Jarrett has also received the okay from Cowboy Bill Watts to resurrect the UWF United States Tag Team Championship and a tournament to crown that champion is going on as we speak. Cowboy Bill Watts has agreed to "simplify" his loop also to try and keep the wrestlers happy. He is going to return to is old familiar Mid-South loop. SATURDAY: Morning TV in Shreveport, Night: Houston or New Orleans (alternating weeks) MONDAY: Tulsa or OKC TUESDAY: Baton Rouge or Lafayette WEDNESDAY: Alexandria or Lake Charles THURSDAY: Houston or New Orleans for the Weekly Big Show (opposite the Saturday schedule) FRIDAY: Little Rock or Alexandria, LA Cowboy Bill Watts still has hope of making the UWF a truly national wrestling promotion but he is going to try to do this by television. Right now, WTVT, is giving him as much programming time as he can handle. The station is designating Tuesdays as "Tuesday Night Titans" and is giving Watts 3 hours of time to fill. Watts is hoping to divide that among the 3 UWF "territories" but that is still to be determined. Watts is in search of catchy names for his shows and it is rumored that one will be Power Pro Wrestling. Jarrett is toying with bringing back TNT DYNAMITE which will stand for Titans N Tennessee but we will have to wait and see. Watts liked the idea of what Jarrett did by putting his young son on the broadcast team and is thinking of doing the same with his son, Eric, who is said to be a whiz with making wrestling videos set to music. The schedule will also allow for the sharing of talent between the 3 UWF promotions. Watts says you should never be surprised at who shows up and he can't wait to unveil the 3 people coming in now that the VonErichs left. It is also rumored that Jimmy Snuka has asked out of his contract. He is unhappy with his booking as he believes that he is much higher on the food chain then just helping raise the status of the young Dingo Warrior. Watts says he is listening to all offers but as of now Snuka is still the property of the UWF.

JWA July 1985 - JWA Japanese Championship Tournament

A nice card as the fans got exactly what they want in the beginning and the end. An American goes done in Phil Hickerson and a great last match. Not to say that the mid card was not great but I always think you have to get the fans attention right off the bat and finish well. You did that here. I just wish I was more familiar with the names in your promotion. I have some homework to do. -
That was a fun card in Osawatomie but I am not sure if a high school gym could draw enough people to cover the expenses of all those stars. I beat that card could have sold out in Topeka or Lawrence which have bigger arenas. That is how good that show was. At first I thought the cage match needed some more build up as it is usually the end of a feud and this crowd is not that familiar with Lutte but a Russian against Crusher, who they are familiar with, would sell all by itself. Lutte is hitting the central region of the US hard and are one tv show against taking some of UWF's fans. Great job.

As wrestling was meant to be..... The 4 Horsemen -
Good show from top to bottom here. Star filled throughout with some big feuds coming to an end, some continuing and some beginning. I must say that I always root against Hogan in real life as I do here while reading the WWF and then I see the body slam followed by the leg drop and hope that somehow there will be a kick out. Maybe Nikita will be the first!i For me, the Reverse Royal was the highlight of the show. It might just be something the UWF "borrows" from Vince. It gives so many opportunities. You could hype up a new star, continue a feud or even determine the #1 contender. GREAT JOB HERE! I would have also loved to see Gino and Windham. These two are two of the best in the business and deserve more credit. It is a strange world and I often wonder why some people like Hogan and Bockwinkle stay on top while Windham and Hansen never got that HUGE TITLE SHOT.

Sorry, didn't mean to make my comment sound negative. Just trying to enhance this WWF-LUTTE WAR as it is one of the best angels in the game.
-
I like that people are off and searching for new venues. Lutte hits Texas and I think that is cool. TV is the key here. Anywhere you are viewd gives you a chance at drawing an audience. As for your TV show, a lot going in here. Andre with the belt is the ultimate screw job to the WWF and that is a cool feud. I would not even give them the time of day though on your TV show. I think it would have been best if you said Dutch Mantell was gone or injured instead of saying he went to the WWF. That might help them get a few more viewers and that is not what you want. I thought the Dory interview was interesting. He came off almost like a baby face. Maybe you could run a FUNK-FUNK feud down the road. Both could pull it off.

Very interesting stuff going on around here. What is the WWF to think about champion Andre and is MACW concerned that they will never see there tag belts again

I enjoyed your show as always and looking forward to the Bash but on a side note, Mr. Saito is in jail at this time along with Ken Patera. He is not eligible until late 1986. I dropped Patera as he is not eligible until 1987. Lowblow picked up Patera but is not using him until 87. -

I enjoyed the Pete Doherty-Jay Strongbow angle here and hope there is more to it. I think those feuds throughout the card make for an interesting show. I also like to see the open competition between organizations for venues as both WWF and MACW ran shows in Cincinnati here. I hope all of the squabbling over locations has come to an end and we realize the war to control the wrestling scene is on! -

I agree with Gordi there are story lines throughout the card which makes it a fun read from segment to segment. -
Enjoyed the creative nature of the casket match. The idea of a flag always seems to bring immediate heat and in this case it works perfectly.

I really enjoyed that card. I thought the Nightmares acted a bit heelish here by simply walking out. Fun to watch the tide turn on Tojo and clan. The hooded figure makes an appearance. All HELL is about to break loose I think. I must say that the Stud Stable feud is interesting as both teams could easily turn face or heel. Bruiser Brody on the side of Blassie could really give Idol some protection but if you were Idol would you really trust Bruiser? So many interesting ways to play this one. -
To be honest, I have been feeling this way for awhile. UWF, NWA, WWF and the AWA are all separate "National" type programs. We are in fact not working together but to push our own brands. We should all be able to run wherever we want. UWF is looking to keep the Southern Rasstlin Idea and has no interest no in running in the Northeast, West on Canada but after that all should be fair game. Houston, St. Louis and even Hawaii made a living on using others talents for their own game. Houston would run World Class type shows one night and UWF shows the next followed by WWF next week. This is exactly what this game has turned into. Everyone for themselves. We have three World Champions. Why should the UWF care if the WWF went to Dallas this week and I went next. If they are enough fans to support it, great. If not, let the better show win! With that, UWF is going to be centered in the southern and middle part of the country. I am going to try and follow the Memphis and Mid South loops but major shows could include near cities like St. Louis or Kansas City. If the AWA, NWA or WWF wants to run any city that was used historically in my loops feel free. If you did a search of where Mid-South Wrestling was aired in 1985-86, it was everywhere but the Northeast. Watts had easy access to ratings and could see hotbeds for his product and might want to reward them with a house show along the way.

Love the new and improved Stud Stable. Poor Dusty can't seem to catch a break here! Enjoy your trip. I am away for two weeks but will try to pop om a bit.
