i found that Austin Ambrose podcast so weird. Ambrose just really seemed stoned of his mind all the time and if they didn't let him pee in a cup afterwards, I don't know... in all seriousness though, the word that comes to mind first is interesting. Ambrose really seemed hesitant to speak about some things and got very much into others, to the point where I thought Austin was downright annoyed of always trying to bring him back on track. The end really intrigued me. To me it came off as Austin telling Ambrose to up his game personally, but also as having hopes in him of changing the current product, of kinds. All that trying things and being more edgy talk seemed like a longing for some more of Moxley and less of current WWE PG. All in all I really enjoyed the hour, although I was really irritated at times.

The whole time watching Aichner vs. Gallagher I wat thinking "Well, if Aichner isn't gonna be teamed with Cesaro, I don't know." It just fits, both german speaking, muscula guys who can pull off great power moves and great high-flying moves. But Gallagher was amazing in his own right. The only thing I'm afraid of IF he were to really sign and go to the main roster, he would be the third Vaudevillain. Just from has stature and mannerisms. Ciampa vs. Gargano was awesome, although in essence a glorified squash with he one being squashed coming off the winner. But the story they told was fantastic, and everything just looked so crisp. At the end, when Ciampa sat down next to Johnny, I have to admit i had goosebumps just because I thought it was a great moment and fit so perfectly. the first two matches of the night didn' do much for me. Apart from Swann having a great deal of charisma, no one stood out at all.

I loved Asuka during her segment. Fantastic.

Your most "Against The Grain" opinion on wrestling
Gutenberger replied to JaymeFuture's topic in Pro Wrestling
Bret Hart is the most overrated wrestler of all time. I don't think he is such a great worker and I just find him plain boring, in the ring and promo-wise. My favorite match with him, by far, is the Summerslam 94 match with owen, and that is mostly because it was one of the first shows I owed on VHS and, in hindsight, because it was just something different, as to me, about 95% of his matches look and feel the same. -
Especially when he's just a normal human being who is allowed to do what he likes and have fun. He comes across so sympathetic and laid back.

I really was not impressed at all with tthe ZSJ match. Don't get me wrong, it looked fine, but it just had that pure exhibition vibe, that just doesn't fit into a tournament in my eyes. Also, for a match that relied so heavy on working the body parts, these two walked around just fine for most of the time, which really broght me out of it a bit. Who really impressed me is Tony Nese. I think he has great looks, can pull off power moves, is agile and I just liked the way his offense looked. That spot at the end, right before the 450 was weird. It seemed as if Bennett was really hurt, and then to go through and hat that 450 just seems very unneccessary. And lastly I'm so glad to see Kendrick back. In the videos he comes across who knows he's done some shitty things and really regrets them, and Ithink he has a ton of charisma. His heel mannerisms just worked so fine, not as someone who's evil, but just someone who konws what it takes to win sometimes and isn't afraif of doing it. Loved it.

What the hell was that vignette with the moon?

Smackdown just feels, at this moment, as the absolute little brother of Raw. Especially with Raw having that chic new stage, the commentators moved and everything and Smackdown just looking exactly the same, like having the wear the big brother's old clothes. And the show itself so was very bland.

That show was awesome, really fun watch from beginning to end. I like the new look of it, and think it's good to have the announcers back on the stage. Much needed change there! The return of the jobbers is a nice little thing and hopefully (yes, dreaming is allowed) the end of 50/50 booking. I don't understand why they gave Sasha the title on Raw. Just ot have a wow moment on the first Raw after the split? I think they had that in the main event, and in a huge way. SummerSlam would have been, in my eyes, so much better, especially with it being in Brooklyn. Weird. And... holy Shit, Balor! I NEVER expected him to go over. Even te split second before the hand went down for the hree count, I thought Roman was somehow gonna go over, and I just sat there with my mouth open for the last few minutes. Amazing, and a really good match on top of that, too. If the can somehow manage to keep the course they've started with this Raw, ot's gonna be great to be a WWE fan.

Actually, Hot & Spicy is the name of his current team in WxW alongside Axel Dieter Jr, whose father was, surprisingly to me, mentioned during the match.

Two rounds in, the only competitor to advance to the 1/4 finals to not impress me at all is Lun, whose offense just comes across as weak and having barely any impact. The rest of the brackett has really been good looking, although failry predictable. Sadly, Da Mack is out, even though it doesn't come as a surprise. He's had a good showing though, busting out some good offense and showing off some great charisma in losing.

I like how they continously use the talent that's going up to elevate the talent that is staying, as again seen by American Alpha and Nia Jax this week. And again, I am SO impressed by AA, this is the first tag team in a long time that has me waiting for a match because they are so good. Nia impreed me, too, with that Jackhammer she pulled out of her hat. The other thing i really like is how they bring in well known and respected talent to boost up their wrestleres, as seen with Joe nad his recent wins over E.Y. and now Rhyno. It just gives that much credibility, it's fascinating.

There truly were some weird picks there. Styles being so high doesn't surprise me that much, what is more surprising is Finn being the #5 pick, although it surprises me in a good way. Splitting up the Club at this stage irritates me. Why bother to have the little mini thing with AJ wanting to go alone bt then it being all a hoax and rejoining with thme only to split them up now. Only thing I can imagine is working towards a Balor vs. Styles match in the future. Zayn and owens being on the same show is strange, seeing as they wanted to end that feud for good and now they just stick together again... Just weird. Cesaro being picked so late reminded me of the said again and again that someone being picked late could lit a fire under them and really motivate. maybe that is the direction they're going with him. Give him that "I'll show you what I'm made of" gimmick, or go the other route and just let him don't give a fuck and do his thing with no egards to anything or anyone. Overall, Raw seems to have gotten away much better, which was to be expected, but I had hopes they wouldn't do it. I've been asking myself if, with Raw getting both the women and tag team championships, maybe Smackdown does get the WWE chempionship. I know, it most unlikely, but it would be something really new and fresh.

Yeah, but then Raw would have to move to Tuesday, because it' Monday Nitro and to my knowledge always has been, whereas we all know and love "Tuesday Raw Tuesday".

Just some quick thoughts: - As soon as I saw Bob Backlund outside of the ring on that battle royal, I had a feeling Young was gonna win this and I was right. So it seems all these vignettes actually led to something meaningful, especially if he beats Miz with the CFCW. Astounding, really. - I liked how they covered up for that botched spot by Kalisto. Instant reaction and good transitition into the second attempt. Seemed very professional. As professional as it can seem after a botch, at least... - "Not a good guy, not a bad guy... the suspended guy"... Awesome, i laughed hard when i read it. The video was rather cheesy, but I really liked the intensity Ambrose showed afterwards and that he CAN take things seriously, it fits his somewhat toned down persona over the last few weeks. - The Wyatt vs. New Day segment was... someting else. I can't really find any words to describe it, but it sure was unusual. - shane for SD and Steph for Raw is just what you'd expect. What I'm asking myself is, with the GM's in place, does that mean we won't get to see them all the time and they'll just "supervise" the shows and pop up on screen from time to time? If so, I'm all in for the GM idea. - Is "Smackdown Live" the new official name for the show? If so, it sucks.

[1929-03-15-Boston, MA] Gus Sonnenberg vs Joe Malcewicz
Gutenberger replied to fxnj's topic in Pre-1930s
This match had some good heat going on. I guess the footage must have been not in a chronological order, or else it wouldn't make that much sense. These two running takedows with the trainers coming on ant the ref trying to keep everything together were great, although it seemed as it was near the end of the match, but that's hard to decide for me. Time went by really quickly watching this and it was quite enjoyable, although, again, the footage seemed pretty much all over the place, chronologically speaking. -
Gustav Fristensky vs Josef Smejkal 1913 Prague, Czech Republic (Show Unknown) Related ------------------- So, this is still a bit older than that Stecher vs. Caddoc match. This is coming from Prague, and very unlike anything we know. I'm not really sure if this is pro wrestling atall or amateur, to be honest, the missing ropes leave me somewhat puzzled here. But the fact that Fristensky has travelled to the US and fought such names as Frank Gotch has me guessing he's a pro. Not much to say about the match, it really is only grapplnig, basically. But the fact that such old footage exists and is freely available for everybody out there is marvellous by itself, I'd say.

UFC 200: Because Lesnar is a Pro Wrestler

Lesnar should've come to the ring with cigarette, beer and a Caine, if he's chosen that music... -

NWA-TNA 2003 aka a passive-agressive way to deal with depression

I got a vague feeling this could soon be continued... And if I'm right, I'm SO looking forward to it. -
So, what is WWE trying to accomplish? Are they wanting to make every "Network Special" feel like a big one by hammering out big matches? Or are they just trying to get through with some of the stuff before the split? Becaus that Shield threeway feels, although logical in storyline, awfully rushed and thrown out an Battleground. You would have thought they'd save it for something special as SummerSlam or WrestleMania. I thought during Raw that maybe they really would go wird adding Cena and Styles, which would have made pefect sense to me. Idk, like I said, this just feels so rushed and wasted.

I like how they are handling Dillinger at the moment. Although I'm not a fan of the, it seems, inevitable heel turn, the way it is done, slowly and completely logical, is really well done and comprehensible
