  1. Voted Bret, but the more I see of Rick Martel the more I'm tempted to move him up from #2. It would be more interesting if this poll was expanded to give more options for voters to rank the candidates.
  2. By no means a perfect match; the crowd enthusiasm elevated this well above its obvious shortcomings. A personal favourite.
  3. Watched whatever Stampede aired here in BC in the late 80s and early 90s so this is before my time, but I'm definitely enjoying this series of podcasts. I will be seeking out what's been mentioned above on the Network.
  4. Am I alone in really disliking Rollins in just about every way?
  5. Was about to say the same thing ...
  6. Happy to listen to this. I can now vouch for the fact that Kelly is a good conversationalist even when he's not doing a podcast.
  7. I'm amused by the fact that a fellow lawyer had so much influence on Parv's thinking about this project simply by articulating a very basic legal concept, which in turn Parv used to formulate his process to rank wrestlers for the GWE project. Because I'm a newcomer to the PWO forum, I have no baggage to carry, but this article brings out many bones of contention between various types of voters. Biases are alleged; the author demonstrates some of his own.
  8. This was a fantastic match. Thanks for the find.
  9. I would like this but apparently I am not allowed to by the site. Likes per day by me is, somehow, zero.
  10. As a big fan of Christian I couldn't agree more with Dylan's summary of Christian's virtues.
  11. I might have labelled it weird... top 10 vote means (4-10) vote. Ah. Yes, it's misleading. One category is a subset of the other. Something to revise for 2026.
  12. If Brian Pillman has a #3 vote, it also follows he has a top 10 vote.
  13. For the record, I am also Canadian. I find it interesting that Steven is so down on Jericho - I believe he mentioned that Jericho would not make his top 200; whilst I'm sure if I were to compile a GWE list Jericho would probably shake down around 90-100, he would equally rate much higher on my favourites list. I think Jericho's biggest flaw is not that he was stupid in a wrestling sense, but that his mind wrote cheques his body and skills couldn't reliably cash.
  14. This is a pretty unsupported and indefensible statement, by a fellow Canadian no less. Jericho probably isn't one of the top 100 because of his lack of consistency over the years, but he did a lot of good stuff over the years which outweighs the bad. Also, I think people are overlooking his genuinely awesome work on the mic.
  15. I am sorely tempted to start quoting passages from The Anxiety of Influence to see how far Parv wants to draw parallels between the canon of English literature and the GWE project ...
  16. I think for a significant number of people, he is not on that shortlist, which was at the heart of the infamous and (now terrifying to look back on) Flair vs. Bret thread. My search kung-fu has failed. Link to this infamous thread?
  17. Firstly, I think you are grossly oversimplifying his position. Secondly, I have no reason to think someone arguing the opposite position from me is a heel.* Nor should you. *= Let me admit right here, right now that I'm a lawyer and an Internet message board is not usually a place where I look to impose rigorous critical standards when it comes to evaluating arguments. That's what I do in my day job. That being said ... When it comes to evaluating pro wrestling, of course you have to look at the footage - that's the evidence in chief, as it were, which is recorded output - but then of course you have to then evaluate said evidence. That's where you get subjectivity from the observer. Grimmas is (as I see it) legitimately reaching a different conclusion than you are when comparing two wrestlers who by most rank in the top 99.9% of all pro wrestlers, ever. Surely it's not inconceivable for someone to reach a conclusion that by their own criteria rank Bret Hart higher than another great worker because of various features of his matches (output) and the demonstration of wrestling skills that he values more highly than you do (input).
  18. It seems nonsensical for people to claim that Grimmas' position is indefensible. I'm not qualified to judge on the merits until I watch a whole bunch of Japan stuff, and re-watch all the Bret Hart matches I grew up seeing on TV, but it seems really dubious for various people to conclude there is no legitimate way to reach Grimmas' conclusions. This ranking process is inherently subjective and people are allowed to come up with different criteria in arriving at their results ...

    Greatest vs best

New member to the board. Been catching up on the GWE project, listening to podcasts and reading the forum topics. I"m a bit stunned that methodologies and criteria were not more cogently defined as this project took shape. Where might one find anything close to a comprehensive list of factors to consider in arriving at these top 100 lists?
  20. Come on, Tim and I did 5.5 hours straight on our top 50 with energy to spare! Another reason Toronto is better than Vancouver folks! Canuck-on-Canuck crime. Ouch. Have to speak up for my hometown of Vancouver. And I've lived in Toronto. No contest.
  21. Hello from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I grew up watching the WWF from Canada's west coast from about 1984 onwards, when I was ten. Remained a casual fan until university, when I began reading Scott Keith. Watched WCW from 1994 until it ended. Went on hiatus from about 2005 when the WWF didn't do it for me anymore; recently I noticed the explosion of footage on YouTube from the territories and Japan and was hooked back in. The links from Keith's site to PTB led me to all the podcasts affiliated with PWO and I now have the desire to systematically watch stuff from Japan, WCW and the territories. Like Andrew, I want to expand my knowledge base and join in the discussion. Maybe by 2026 I'll have enough confidence to vote for the next round of GWE ... A primer on how and where to watch all sorts of footage would be much appreciated.
