Greetings From Allentown podcast
Shrike02 replied to Ricky Jackson's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Okay this latest episode was absolutely fantastic. And as a little kid who was living in Toronto in 1984, I sincerely regret not convincing my parents to let me go to Maple Leaf Gardens for wrestling shows. Instead I got to boo Harold Ballard and the Leafs ... -
r/SquaredCircle's 100 Greatest Matches Ever Poll
Shrike02 replied to Kadaveri's topic in Pro Wrestling
Are you on the GWE forums? I'm curious why your expectations are so low. Or, I'm being trolled into a reply. I suppose that's possible too. -
It kills me that RVD is one spot higher than Martel. As RVD couldn't carry Martel's Atomizer, much less his tag team resume.

Dan Kroffat is a such an underrated gem of a wrestler.

It's going away. I guess it's a good thing I have a bit of spare time and some storage to grab some stuff. But it is a real shame that the drive is going away completely.

I shouldn't be annoyed by the results of this project because I did not submit a ballot (because I had other viewing priorities than re-watching WWF/WWE stuff). That being said, some things have struck me as pretty significant flaws in what was a neat project. The overall writing quality and the lack of even a cursory editing pass to correct obvious mistakes of punctuation, grammar, and style in the final results has made me wince. The deficiencies in the description of Bill Eadie's merits (and others on the list, too) as a worker is a more serious matter. Again, there's not been enough editorial oversight to correct some pretty glaring errors. Still, I remain interested in seeing the end results of the project.

Any more on this? That would be a very unwelcome development.

Tremendously great match. I can't remember anything from 2005 onwards that has sucked me in like that. I hadn't seen much from Gargano prior to this PPV, but was a fan of Almas. Needless to say the former vaults into my must-see list from now on, and Almas solidified his reputation and then some with this match.

Did someone really rank Chief Jay Strongbow at 10?
-
A great, great listen. If only there was a Titans reunion full-time for a regular podcast doing the Carolinas ...
-
Just watched this match and couldn't glean a date from the commentary, sadly.
-
I'll take part. This will give my viewing some direction in the coming months.
-
Could this cryptic comparison be elaborated upon?
-
Will do! I may have r talked wrestling over a beer with one of the WCCW hosts earlier today.
-
Wait, what? Why am I not getting paid for this? Edit: I mean, Why arent we getting paid for this? Kelly should pay himself for a Titans shirt?
-
Had a great time watching this alongside someone who happened to be wearing a Titans of Wrestling t-shirt.

Having watched just about all of the All-Japan archive in the past few months, and other Tsuruta matches where I have found them elsewhere, I can vouch for the quality of Jumbo's matches in the 70s, including '76. It's not absurd to nominate that year; nor do I think many people would overlook Jumbo's '91. If you can nominate two years from a wrestler that are 15 years apart, I would advance the proposition that Tsuruta's standing in the recent GWE falls a bit short of what it should have been.

Wrestlers or Acts You Hated But Turned The Corner On
Shrike02 replied to JaymeFuture's topic in Pro Wrestling
Greg Valentine. Ignored him as a young fan, didn't think much of him at all, have been re-watching as much of his stuff as I can in the last couple of years and find him to be an all-time, HOF level worker upon closer inspection. -
I am definitely looking forward to another E&C episode with Dustin as a featured guest. It's clear from this last week's episode that there is a lot of mutual respect. If I were to come up with a GWE list Christian and Goldust would definitely do very well.

Bonus points for good taste in books; the Flashman novels are brilliant.

I'll just echo some others and state that my tastes have both broadened and narrowed. I'm appreciating more styles and time periods; and some of what I liked before I like even more as I watch more of the build-up to certain feuds. I still haven't been really able to get into lucha (although some of what I've seen from 2000 I've liked), joshi or WoS though, so those are some viewing projects for me going forward.

This is a run-off between Vince and Baba.
