  2. Atlantic Coast Championship Wrestling TV June 22nd, 1984 Sportatorium, Tampa, FL (After the opening credits, we join Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone at the broadcast booth to start the show.) Bob Caudle: Hello wrestling fans, and welcome to Atlantic Coast TV. Lots of things to discuss about today and a lot of people have some things to say, Tony, and they’ll have the chance to speak their mind. Tony Schiavone: Yes, they will, Bob but one of them won’t be Greg Valentine or Eddie Graham. Valentine has been exceptionally hush since the reveal of Gino Hernandez being the mastermind behind Valentine being robbed of his Atlantic Coast Heavyweight title shot against Paul Orndorff. And from what I understand, Eddie Graham is busy trying to join Valentine so they can work things out but obviously, it’s not working at all for the moment. Bob Caudle: We’ll see but since we’ve got many people joining us, let’s not forget that our feature bout this week will feature a rare appearance of Dusty Rhodes on TV and he will take on young Kevin Kelly in our main event. But first, let’s welcome the Mosca family, Angelo Mosca and Angelo Mosca Jr. (The Moscas make their way to the broadcast booth for their interview.) Bob Caudle: Alright, Angelo Mosca, there’s no denying that your transition from active wrestler to manager has been relatively successful as we look at your son’s record recently and he’s about to break out as a wrestler. Angelo Mosca: Well, Mr. Caudle, nothing pays off like hard work and Junior works harder than everyone here in Atlantic Coast. So it might be surprising to you but it’s not to me. We’ve been doing this together from the start and we’ll keep doing this for a long time again! Angelo Mosca Jr (hesitant): Yeah…about that, Pops… Angelo Mosca: What? Anything wrong, son? Angelo Mosca Jr: Listen, Pops…I know that we’ve been doing pretty good so far but after consideration, I think it’d be better if we just go our separate ways. Angelo Mosca: Don’t fool with me, son. That’s not funny. Angelo Mosca Jr: I’m not joking, Dad. It’s over. We’re done. Angelo Mosca: And you’re telling me this, now? What changed? Angelo Mosca Jr: Well, I got better advice from someone else. Angelo Mosca: And that would be? ???: That would be me! (The camera pans to see AWA Florida Heavyweight Champion Gino Hernandez walking to the booth. Hernandez is dressed to the nines and Angelo Mosca Jr goes standing beside him.) Bob Caudle: Hold on a second, Gino Hernandez! You again! Gino Hernandez: Yeah, “me again!” Listen, Pops, it’s nothing personal. It’s strictly business. You see, Angelo Jr can only go so far with someone to whom he’s emotionally involved. In this business, emotions will get you nowhere. I’m gonna bring that to your son, Angelo. Watch him soar like never before. We’ve already started and it’s already paying dividends. So, as of this moment, Angelo Mosca Sr, your services are no longer required. Angelo Mosca Jr: Sorry, Pops…just business. (Gino and Junior leave, while Bob Caudle is trying to get some comments from a shellshocked Angelo Mosca.) Bob Caudle: Angelo, I’m sorry. Angelo Mosca: I…..I don’t know what to say. (Then, Mosca just walks away while Caudle rejoins Tony Schiavone behind the desk.) Bob Caudle: Gino Hernandez continuing to cause all sorts of problems in Atlantic Coast and this time, the Mosca family is the latest collateral damage. Tony Schiavone: Gino Hernandez seems to thoroughly enjoy his role as puppet master behind the scenes and until somebody steps up to stop him, this will be a weekly occurrence. Bob Caudle: One thing that won’t be a weekly occurrence is the presence of an AWA Worldwide star on our TV, but this week it’s the case. For our weekend shows tomorrow and Monday, Dave Morgan will be joining us and he’ll be featured in a tag match with Dory Funk Jr against the Brisco Brothers on Sunday night, among other things. We’ve received some comments earlier this week from Dave Morgan as he’s preparing for his trip to Florida this weekend. (Cut to VTR footage of Dave Morgan, sitting on a bench in the locker room after an AWA Worldwide event. Morgan is finishing packing his stuff before leaving.) Dave Morgan: The great thing about the AWA is the opportunity that we all get to work a lot of places in this promotion and a lot of workers. A lot of opponents and opportunities to sink your teeth in. This weekend won’t be no exception as I come to Atlantic Coast Championship Wrestling for 2 shows. And for one of them, I’m teaming up with Dory Funk Jr against the Briscos. Now, I know what this means especially in this territory. There’s no love lost between the Funks and the Briscos. I know what I’m getting myself into and while I’m not Terry Funk, I know what this means for Dory Funk so I’m gonna come to Miami with every intention of helping Dory to win this match. And I intend on doing the same thing the next time against whoever I’m gonna wrestle. So then, I’ll come back to the Northeast with all the momentum in the world and the next time I’ll be back in Florida, not only I’ll come back as a better wrestler but I’ll come back as a champion as well. (Back to the studio with Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone) Tony Schiavone: Well Bob, I like seeing that Dave Morgan is excited about coming to work with us this weekend and he’s right about how historically important are the matches between Funks and Briscos. This is similar to the Hatfields and the McCoys. They viscerally hate each other. Bob Caudle: Although in this situation, Tony, Dory doesn’t have his little brother Terry as a tag team partner with Dave Morgan. It’s a completely different variable and this has to play in favor of the Briscos. Now, if this is going to be the outcome, that’s a different story but we’ll see on Sunday night. Up next, here’s Rocky “The Best Kernodle”. (Rocky Kernodle makes his way to the booth with a mixed reaction, at best.) Bob Caudle: Rocky, recently, there’s been so much chaos in this territory, starting with you turning on your brother and then aligning yourself with Greg Valentine & The Cuban Assassin, when he first thought Eddie Graham was against him. But after Valentine turned on the Assassin, and as you don’t seem to have any affiliation with Valentine anymore, we have to wonder what’s next for you, Rocky? Rocky Kernodle: With or without Greg Valentine, I still am the Best Kernodle around and you and Schiavone know it. I don’t know what the heck is going on with Greg Valentine but he better get his act together because when we cross paths next time, I’m gonna make sure he never forgets that you don’t mess with the Best Kernodle. But right now, there’s another thing bothering me. Bob Caudle: And that would be? Rocky Kernodle: That would be those damn Russians, Khruschev and Zhukov. You see, I might be a “bad guy” to you, people, but I still am a proud American. I hate those commies with every fiber of my being and I don’t like that they decided to come here, trying to run roughshod over this territory. So, Khruschev and Zhukov, I don’t care how I gotta get to you but next week, on this program, I’m gonna bring myself a partner and we’re gonna send you packing back to the Soviet Union! Bob Caudle: What would be the chances of that partner being your brother Don? Rocky Kernodle: Absolutely and positively none. I’ll take any schmuck in attendance rather than my brother Don. He’s been nothing but a thorn to my side my entire life. Don this, Don that, blah blah blah…Just thinking about him makes me wanna puke. I’m promising you this, Bob Caudle. I’ll take any random Joe that I can find in that locker room and he’ll do a better job that Don could ever make as my brother. Not just a tag partner or a wrestler, but a partner. I won’t leave any doubt next week! (Rocky Kernodle leaves the booth) Bob Caudle: Rocky Kernodle still inflexible when it comes to his brother Don. There’s no chance for them to ever reunite, which is sad because they could be a formidable tag team in our division. Tony Schiavone: Absolutely. Bill White & Johnny Weaver have a lot of possible contenders to their title, especially now that Johnny Weaver also has the Atlantic Coast Heavyweight title to think about since beating Rocky’s brother Don last week. And it could be a great way for Don to have some measure of revenge for losing the title on his first title defense. And--- now what? (Tony and Bob Caudle are interrupted by the Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champions Bill White & Johnny Weaver, making their way to the broadcast booth.) Tony Schiavone: Well, it’s not like one more interruption will do anything, right? Bill White: Sorry for the interruption but I felt it was important that we’d come here and make a statement. Not only because we’re tag team champions but also because one week ago, Johnny Weaver captured the Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Championship. And it seems like he’s gonna have to face his first mandatory challenger in the Contender’s Crownholder, “Avalanche” Buzz Tyler. Bob Caudle: Well, you stole the words right out of my mouth, Bill! Bill White: Yeah, well, that’s great because I’m pretty sure that there isn’t anyone in the locker room or at home who thinks that Johnny has a chance to retain against Buzz Tyler, as incredible as it may seem but it’s been that way since we won the Atlantic Coast Tag Team Championship. But that’s OK because so far, we’ve been proving everyone wrong. We’ve lost our share of battles but when the time comes, we step our game up and we prove to the world that we’re not quite done yet. The reality is this; any threat to Johnny as the Atlantic Coast Heavyweight belt is also a threat to our tag team titles. So I need to be ready at any time as much as Johnny must be – and he must prepare for two title defenses sometimes. So, you better be sure of one thing, people; I’ve got Johnny’s back through and through and there’s not a chance you’re taking our titles away for a long time. Bob Caudle: Anything you wanna say, Johnny? Johnny Weaver: I think that Bill pretty much said everything but I’ll only add that he’s right. This is an opportunity that I didn’t think I’d have at this stage of my career and look at me, I got two belts to defend. Bill has my back and I got his back and this is what matters right now. And I’m not crazy, I know that I’m not gonna be Atlantic Coast champion forever and whoever beats me, I’m gonna give props to him. But make no mistake about it, it’s gonna take a fine tag team to beat those two old geezers and once that happens, that’ll mean what it’ll mean. But until then, I’m preparing for every contender. Tomorrow night, I’m counting on beating Buzz Tyler and obliterate his hopes as the Contender’s Crownholder. Next Sunday night, Rufus Jones will be next and I know he’s gonna bring it. But they should also know I will! (White & Weaver leave the broadcast booth.) Bob Caudle: Tony, I think it’s safe to say that both Bill White & Johnny Weaver won’t let anyone think they’ll be easy targets. And I don’t think they will be. Tony Schiavone: Certainly not but everyone wants to mark their territory here in Atlantic Coast Championship Wrestling, especially the champions. Johnny Weaver has his work cut out for him as dual champion and Buzz Tyler will certainly be motivated tonight as the Contender’s Crownholder. Bob Caudle: And we finally can get to our first match of the show, so let’s get to it! Match #1 Steve Diblasio picks up a rare victory, over enhancement talent Roderick Addison in 9:17 ***commercial break*** Tony Schiavone: Welcome back and I understand that the House of Humperdink has requested this time to talk to us, so gentlemen, come on over. (The House of Humperdink make their way to the booth, with Kevin Sullivan, Fallen Angel and Sir Oliver Humperdink, front and center.) Tony Schiavone: Sir Oliver, your crew has certainly wreaked havoc like nobody else, not only here in Atlantic Coast but the entire AWA. You’ve got control of the Atlantic Coast TV Championship with Purple Haze and you’ve got monsters in Abdullah the Butcher and the Great Kabuki and the addition of Konga the Barbarian has definitely strengthened your group but looming over you for sure might be The Missing Link, still looking to avenge what you did to Miss Elizabeth, a while back. Sir Oliver Humperdink: We didn’t do absolutely anything! She had no business being there in the first place. I had warned The Missing Link since day one that she would be trouble and look what happened. She got a fireball thrown to her face and who knows what’s next. Tony Schiavone: But that’s you who did this, not Link… Sir Oliver Humperdink: Shut up, Schiavone! Link is not gonna do a damn thing because without me, without US, he IS nothing. He’s been roaming around, the lost soul that he is, like a headless chicken and he hasn’t done nothing yet. Deep inside, Link knows that there isn’t anything he can do to stop my House of Humperdink. With or without that Jezebelle, The Missing Link will not lay a finger on me or anyone else in the House of Humperdink. But let’s say that he does, that means he’s got to deal with Konga, with Kabuki, with the Haze, with Kevin Sullivan and of course, the Butcher. It’s a battle he can’t win and he knows it! Tony Schiavone: Moving on to you, Kevin. We’ve mentioned that The Purple Haze is the reigning TV Champion and from what I understand, we might have another title soon around one of your men’s waist since Konga is scheduled to have a Florida Heavyweight title match next week. Kevin Sullivan: Isn’t it maaaaahvelous, Tony Schiavone…Look at the Purple Haze. Look at Kabuki. Look at Konga. Look at the Butcher. Have you ever seen quite an assembly of specimens like you’re seeing in front of you? I don’t think anyone has. But the rumbling going around is that a couple of people don’t like it. They don’t like us but that’s OK….because that’s the way He wants it. You know I’m talking about you, Dusty Rhodes. Ricky Steamboat. Paul Orndorff….you know I’m talking about you. You’ve made a promise to the world that you’d rid Florida of us but you’ve bitten way more that you can chew. Becaaaaawse, as I stated numerous times before, you can’t defeat what you can’t comprehend. You can’t fight what you can’t understand. The inexplicable cannot disappear. It will haunt you until the day you finally decide: “The hell with it, let me gift you with my soul.” And gentlemen, it’s only a matter of time before this happens. You don’t know when, you don’t know where, you don’t know why. But the time will come soon where your soul will belong to Him. But enough about you…Apparently, there’s another Army coming for us. An Army jealous of what our House has been doing. I’m talking to you, Paul Jones. The word going around is that Ric Flair and Jake Roberts are coming here to teach us a lesson. Well, gentlemen, I will give you the same advice I gave to Dusty Rhodes and company…if you know what’s good for you, you’ll stay away from us. (The House of Humperdink walks away with Abby staring a hole through Tony Schiavone, who feels a bit intimidated.) Tony Schiavone: Chilling words, if there ever was some. The House of Humperdink is well under way in their quest of dominating Atlantic Coast Championship Wrestling. And I’m curious as to how this match between Gino Hernandez and Konga will go next week, Bob. Bob Caudle: It’s certainly intriguing to say the least and Gino’s reign can end just like that next Saturday night in Tampa. We’ll see in due time but we’ve received word that…yeah….OK, I’ve just been told that Boomer Lynch is looking for Eddie Graham and he wants in this tag match with whoever the House of Humperdink will send to represent them against Paul Jones’ Army! Tony Schiavone: We’ll keep you posted on this but now, before our main event, we received some footage from earlier this week about another type of ceremony, a more jovial one…..let’s go to the Church of Boogie Woogie! (Cut to some VTR footage in a small chapel. A handful of faithful are gathered as Jimmy Valiant and Porkchop Cash, dressed as Reverends are standing behind the altar, delivering a speech. We seem to be catching them in the middle of a sermon.) Reverend Jimmy Valiant:….while life is serving you hardships sometimes, it’s about how you respond to that. It’s about how you deal with life. Life is too short to dwell over sad stuff. Life is about having fun and making the most of it. Reverend Cash has seen the light and is now here with me to preach our gospel! Reverend Cash: Reverend Jimmy is right. The Church of Boogie Woogie has shown me that while my profession is serious, that I have to enjoy life and what it throws at us. Life is about having fun and that’s what this Church is all about. Reverend Jimmy will lead us to the promised land and I will accompany all the way in this journey. We don’t know how long it’ll take nor did we know where we’ll go but in the end, we’ll enjoy every step of the way and together, TOGETHER, we will reach the Promised Land! HALLELUJAH! Faithful: HALLELUJAH! (The feed cuts as the faithful get up and dance to the music, just like Reverends Jimmy Valiant and Cash.) ***commercial break*** MAIN EVENT Match #2 “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes beat Kevin Kelly in 12:37 with the Bionic Elbow. As the match ends, the House of Humperdink comes back and Sullivan, Kabuki, Abby, Konga and Haze surround the ring. The feed cuts as Dusty starts fighting off Humperdink’s men!!!
  3. The Rougeaus vs Sailor White/Mad Dog Lefebvre bring me back to my youth. Great memories!
  4. Killian Dain's back on NXT, by the recent batch of tapings. But man, Killian vs Big E would be so much fun.
  5. The way you run Pacific with those Kingdom things is fantastic. Gives us so much drama!
  6. There also was a Ramblin' Rabbit sighting during the Carmella/Sonya/Mandy confrontation.
  7. Yeah, that'd be a shame if they let Killer Kross go. There's gonna be a ton of attention on him if he leaves. The best part right now is that he's no longer the muscle or the sidekick for anybody. As much as I liked the chemistry between he and Moose, Killer Kross is really a heel with which you can sink your teeth in many types of angles. I'm not necessarily crazy on the Crazy Eddie Edwards thing right now but I'd be damned if I didn't say that it's not working right now.
  8. Well, since it's our provincial holiday weekend here in Quebec, tonight I'll have a drink for The Thread Killer. Here's to your full recovery ASAP. In my case, I'll probably watch some baseball instead and see later on Twitter if it's that bad of a show.
  9. Sounds like the logical move to make.
  10. I'll probably just follow along on Twitter but that's gonna be a pass for me.
  11. My God, does Rick Rude and Baby Doll work so well together. I can't quite put my finger on why exactly but it's just so natural.
  12. They either did something with CRASH or AAA, I don't remember.
  13. Atlantic Coast will pick Blackjack Lanza
  14. Deathmatches are a double-edged sword. Sure, they can bring you more fans but it can easily turn away others in your current fanbase. When I was helping with the booking of a local promotion a few years back, one of the wrestlers asked if they could have something along the lines of the deathmatch, promising me that'd bring around 15-20 more fans. Of course, I accepted, thinking about the attendance number rather than the possible consequences and aftermath. Lo and behold, those 15-20 people never showed up and we lost a sponsor along the way. And we never booked the guy either (although I learned later that he pretty much was working the show because the booker of our partner promotion wanted him to, not because he himself wanted to) so that's a lesson I learned and a mistake I never did afterwards.
  15. Loved the JR/Bockwinkel duo at commentary. Bock bringing the more sports-like approach was a nice touch. And I don't envy The Midnight Express one bit about that match with Black Bart & Ron Bass next week! Very intrigued by The Movement!
  16. They gave him a classy sendoff because they assumed he was just taking a break and coming back, even though he made it clear he wasn't re-signing. I don't want to say that Vince is genuinely naive when it comes to talents' feelings when contracts expire but it definitely was a miscalculation on his part on many angles, including trying to bury Moxley in a feud with EC3, which caused Vince to be mad at EC3 for no reason other than the fans didn't react how Vince wanted, and EC3 being buried in return. If anything, that should've been the wake-up call for Vince to get his shit together and use his roster to its full potential. But he remains as complacent as he's been in the past 18 years.
  17. Cue the "WWE just added six months to Harper's contract" joke. In all seriousness, I don't mind WWE talents criticizing the products but when someone like Jon Moxley laid down the roadmap on how to deal with the remainder of their contract, it's baffling to think that acting otherwise will get them the same result. That or they think they'll be exceptions like Shawn Spears and KENTA.
  18. At the pace David Starr is calling out promotions the way he does, how long before major promotions refuse to book him?
  19. I know that Bobby Heenan is the Brilliant One but challenging Rick Martel to an Olympic Style Greco Roman Wrestling Match might not be his greatest idea.
  20. It's hard to imagine that Sami Callihan actually screwed up BEFORE Teddy Hart did. And I know local promotions who refuse to book Teddy anymore because of his unprofessional attitude.
  21. Tasmaniac to Taz.
  22. If they granted Scarlett her release, I don't see how it would look good for them to not do the same for Killer Kross. I also think that AEW would be a good fit for them but you can bet WWE will be all over them. Especially if it's true that Scarlett has to work an outside job, WWE will probably swoop her in and give her financial stability.
  23. WrestleVotes is pretty accurate on the reporting so I'm more inclined to believe that source than Ringside News, Slice Wrestling or Brad Shepard. But yeah, I don't blame fans for not rushing to get tickets for the show. It's bad enough we have to get a sustained Baron Corbin push in the main event (or worst, Shane McMahon overexposure), they need to shake things up in a big way. When the only thing to look forward to is Firefly Fun House, that's a problem. Speaking of which, apparently, we could see Bray Wyatt live tonight.
  24. I like the mixing up with the main event booking in certain areas. Relatively keeps the heel side over in all cases.
  25. My God, Sherbrooke would've killed in real life to have Magnum TA vs George Steele for SNME! Bob Backlund finally did it! New International Heavyweight Champion. He'll be awfully tough to beat!
