[2024-01-17-AEW-Dynamite] Samoa Joe vs Hook
KawadaSmile replied to ShittyLittleBoots's topic in January 2024
Yes. Simple, straight to the point, everybody played their part perfectly and it was just so damn good. Joe is obviously great, and while I'm not the biggest Hook fan there is, he looked great with his selling. This deviated so much from the usual AEW World Title matches, you have to love it. -
I mean, sometimes people just wanna see a badass champ be a badass champ. Yeah. As much as the match against Bryan was good, the whole damn build was awful. The promos MJF was cutting were just bad, plain and simple. Then they spent fucking ages with the Cole feud-turn-friendship which while interesting as a concept, dragged on for way too long and will continue to drag on once Max returns. Joe being a no-nonsense, straight to the point and charismatic badass is miles above that. However, I must say that I wanna see him be the champ for way more time. Swerve is dope and all that, but if they are doing a three-way, keeping the belt on Joe seems not the worst choice. Hangman is there to take the fall.

Nak actually improved a lot in terms of motivation (not something new tbh) and he is more heavily featured. Maybe his most consistent run in a while. But he's clearly just riding the wave and cashing some checks in the grand scheme of things. Okada would do well anywhere because the whole Rainmaker persona is supposed to be well-rounded and taking elements from Mexico, US and Japan. He'd is a great cocky heel. Could be a great underdog face.

Get ready to learn Imperium, buddy
-
Yeah, Joe beating the shit out of someone, whether it's a scrappy underdog like Hook or some brute like Necro Butcher during 10-minute sprints is very much in line with what Hashimoto would do.
-
Joe VS Hook was fun. Easily Hook's best match and a reminder of how Joe can create greatness with even someone who, with all due respect, is not so good. FINALLY, AEW has a world champ again. The power is BACK!

Absolute scenes. Grayson Waller now stands shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Roddy Piper, Vader and Dr. Schultz in terms of upholding kayfabe.
-
A Seth Rollins reign overstaying its welcome only for him to get injured is not a new thing, sadly.
-
Oba Femi is gonna be goooooooooooood HE'S JUST 22 WHAT THE FUCK?
-
It's not even that. It's just me being a bit cheeky about it - Roman breaking all the records would be fun for banter, but I do wish he were more active like in 2022 and 2022, which are still amazing years for his title reign. Even the first half of 2023 was dope and that tag match against the Usos was incredible. I would have had him lose to Cody last year. It didn't really deflate Codester (Brock sure as fuck helped him too) but the iron was hot. I don't think he goes Hollywood like Cena and Rock, and he strikes me as someone who enjoys sports more than that. But hey, it's my favorite wrestler. I ain't complaining if he keeps on winning!

Word is that Rollins messes up his knee for real during the match against Jinder. They should have called an audible.

Jinder has presence, bubbas. I cannot get over how GORGEOUS Veer's beard is tho
-
Rhea vs Becky seems like a main event worthy match. Seth is such a dweeb.

TNA did some great numbers at Hard to Kill, in attendance and actual gate. Like, I know people like to make fun of it, but it does seem like a mostly healthy place for wrestlers to get some reps, reinvent themselves and booking isn't really dumb as it used to be not too long ago. Like, I get you'd want to put Nemeth against a bigger dude just so he could bump around like a maniac, but I'd much rather see him wrestle Shelley. My main gripe with that dude, other than his in-ring skills, is that he ALWAYS wants to be an 80s hard rock guy. Remember when WWE did those Southpaw Regional Wrestling skits, and everyone had ridiculous gimmicks yet faithful to the spirit of the times? He just played himself. That is telling.
-
I dunno man, it seems pretty in line with his regular schedule. He faced LA Knight yeah two months ago, and his previous match took place in August. He's doing the Rumble, and then will probably only wrestle at WM. In 2023 he's wrestled sliiiiiightly more than once every two months, not counting house shows. Even if we count that, it's no more than one match per month. In 2021, it was one (broadcast) match per month, give or take. Assuming his 2024 will have a similar pattern to last year's, it is what it is, but it does have precedent.
-
I get it, but Rock ain't winning that shit (I am actively rooting against that), and giving Cody nothing for another damn year is also very dumb. At least if he pins Rock, there is a built-in reason to do a rematch with Roman. You see why I'd rather see them doing that at another stadium show?
-
I mean, people were talking about Rock vs Roman for 3 years. What's 2 weeks of speculation compared to that? Not sure what the plans are - assuming they are doing Rock/Roman at all. Triple Threat with Cody pinning Dwayne? I don't fucking know. Would make more sense than a straight singles match with a guy who was super fucked up in his last match like 12 years ago.
-
Don't be a hater, bubba. Roman's the GOAT of his generation.
-
He deserves it. He's the top champ of the world. He chooses his battles.
-
I know writers who use subtext and they are all cowards! I still don't get why they had to turn her heel and join the JAS. She's just so damn likeable and being a "mean girl" type just really doesn't fit her. This video is more than enough proof. Easily one of the most likeable individuals in their roster. Just so fucking over everything related to Jericho for almost a decade, now.
-
Don't let something as silly as a timeline get in the way of my anti-Jericho agenda, bubba

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
KawadaSmile replied to TravJ1979's topic in Pro Wrestling
Funny stories of all sorts. From super carnies to the Attitude Era influencing an election, probably. -
It seems they are being cautious - maybe to a fault? - regarding CM Punk's return. His only matches since coming back were house shows, and while all the footage indicates it was some very fun stuff, in terms of what he's doing on TV they are clearly holding back. He's getting comfortable in his almost completely new locker room, still needs to address elephants in the room, and while some of the promos are good, they are not exactly cutting edge.
