NWA drops Chris and Mark Youngblood. NWA signs Grizzly Boone and JT Southern.

Medusa and Richter are definitely women who could win a crowd over. It wasn't pretty how they did it but the Horsemen hang on to the gold. The Mayhem match was a fun read. Lots of stories running next to each other. Lawler and Flair would be a moneymaker regardless but putting it in the Mid-South Coliseum is basically printing money.

Night 1. The OWC take advantage of the hotheaded Southern Boys. The Suicide Blondes outfight the Irishmen. Taker wins the family feud. Soultaker claims another victim. Azul pulls the win out of nowhere. Dreamer hitting Scotty with the DDT just feels right. The Jackal proves an effective field leader. Christopher may have eaten a few pins recently but he wins when it counts the most. Awesome doesn't take the title but i'm sure he's happy leaving the champ in a heap. The Rainbow Warriors winning the title is a perfect end to night 1. Night 2. The Blood Syndicate may be outnumbered against the Citadel but they aren't necessarily outmatched. Jackal always seems off his game when trying to help Cactus. Phoenix Rising & Can-Am still can't determine a winner. Rose is hanging in there in a changing PCW. Hall continues to be the bane of the Neighborhood. Austin shows everyone -especially Bret- what he can really do. Strange to think we'r in the post Severn era of the Submission title. The Age of Regal has begun! DDDp helps the DC break the trend of title changes. The mysterious triangle appearing before the main event proves a bad omen for the Widowmaker. I wonder how Bearer and the others will react to that display of showmanship? In any event 89 may have been the year of the snake but in PCW it's the year of the Dragon!

Unpopular opinions incoming. There is nothing wrong with how Sho won the title. He is a HEEL, he should win the title in a dishonorable fashion. Plus this way Despe is somewhat protected because he can say he wasn't truly beaten. Same with EVIL retaining. Shota wasn't "punked" he overcame getting beaten down by the entire HoT and needed to be rammed into exposed steel bolts to be defeated. Plus without a midcard title restricting his booking, he's free to go deep in the NJC. Speaking of the NJC, Finlay, who may I remind y'all went to the finals last year, is also poised for another strong run now that he doesn't have to build to another title defense. Putting the belts on Nemeth and Riddle respectively makes sense when you remember they booked a 10,000 seat venue for Chicago. It's perfectly reasonable for NJPW/Bushiroad officials to believe that these former WWE talents, men known to the American wrestling audience, would help move tickets. Not saying they're right but I don't blame them for thinking it. Also considering that the stated goal of the Global title is to be defended away from NJPW, putting the strap on a free agent like Nemeth does make sense. Likewise the TV title could now appear on shows for current partner MLW.

Hoss with a solid return and is on the hunt for gold. Akbar looks to sic Kokina on Big Jim. Miller carries a grudge and makes it Burke's problem. Sawyer naturally pins his loss on Link. A huge announcement as the AWA is coming to London! Young & the Vin Man are bad losers and take it out on Brandi. Sarge is totally, seriously happy that Nikita came back. Larry Z interrupts Iceman's time to whinge about his loss but Parson's isn't having it. The Olympians first promo as champs was perfect. Chicky takes the time to kick his old rival while he's down. Kaz's power proves the difference maker in a wild main event.

Any particular reason the Great Lakes area stands out? -
Jacques technically won but a pretty rough night for the Rougeau brothers. Devine and Mitchell win a thrilling 2/3 falls. Davey Boy is officially the face of MLW as TV champion.

Already watched and highly recommend. -
LA. Haynes send Severn a message. O'Grady is starting to shine. Lynn and Malenko put on a classic. Regal is racking up wins ahead of his match with Dustin. Rose has a plan for Pillman. LA night 2. Tenryu continues to impress. Blackman roughs up the Roughneck, Adams Superkick always pays off. Steamboat seems to have the number of the NoE. Bam Bam is in trouble with his Exchange brethren. After a couple interruptions, WIndham emerges with his title in tact. What was that triangle though? Santa Barbera. Christopher has no luck with the New Generation. Awesome smashes Shane. Dreamer has better luck against Ace. Patriot evens the score with the Blood Syndicate. Soultaker exorcises Armstrong but Big Juice can claim the gold,

Andre with a Giant swerve on Fuji-san but the Powers of Pain make him pay for it. The Twin Towers each get a chance to make a statement at Mania. But they each have a tough night ahead of them as well. I'm really digging your Macho Man promos.

Backlund is taking his return to the UWF incredibly seriously. Meanwhile Allen is ready to show what he can really do.
-
Good to see Jerry put his foot down with Debeers. Meanwhile Jeff introduces the crowd to Ms Tennessee. I'm not sure who the fans will route for when The Texas Outlaws take on The Horsemen. Dibiase vs Flair could be a scientific masterclass....or a trip to the gutter. Maybe even both. Mr Wrestling 2 has some interesting ideas for the Huffman brothers.

Here's something else to think about. The UWF was originally based out of Reseda California which stands out as an odd choice compared to the markets they'd run later. Where would you have had the first UWF events take place? -
The Olympians have been the most entertaining tag act for a while now so I'm actually glad to see them hold the gold. Adias is saved by the bell just as he's going to sleep. Classic. Akbar takes Keirn's eye off the prize. Excellent work on the Hogan promo brother! Sawyer really doesn't have anyone to blame but himself for that one. But I'm sure he'll find a way not to. Jumbo gets past the Iceman. Bring on Canek!

Two stacked cards bringing huge matches to Hawaii.

NWA sends Jimmy Snuka to the WWF in exchange for Tommy Rich. There is also a mutual loan where Kamala will be sent to the WWF until the end of the year in exchange for King Kong Bundy with both returning on the 1st.

February 17, 1989 Live on Pay Per View from the Charlotte Coliseum in Charlotte NC. Badd Company (Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond) and Big John Studd w/ "The Perfect 10" Baby Doll defeat The Patriots (Firebreaker Chip & Todd Champion) and "The Latin Hearthrob" Al Perez when Baby Doll hit Chip with her purse followed by a big boot from Studd. "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant defeats "The Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff. Ivan tried to introduce the chain but Handsome Jimmy swiped the chain and ko'd Koloff with his own weapon. NWA World Six Man Tag Team Titles. The Stud Stable (Jimmy Golden, Rod Price & Tommy Cairo)(c) w/"The Mastermind" Ron Fuller defeat Super Strong Machine and the Zero Fighters (Hiroshi Hase & Keiichi Yamada) after Fuller passed Price the "loaded" elbowpad which he whacked SSM with. NWA United States Tag Team Titles. The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams)(c) w/"Number One" Paul Jones defeat The Renegade Warriors (Mark & Chris Youngblood) with a double gutbuster on Chris. The champions weren't done and grabbed a pair of chairs before going to town on the fallen Warriors. After a few uncomfortable minutes two men with blonde mullets and face paint ran down with chairs of their own and chased the New Zealanders off. Solie was surprised when he realized the two latecomers were in fact The Nightmares! NWA Heritage Title. The Super Destroyer(c) w/"Number One" Paul Jones defeats Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. Snuka was in position for the "Superfly" splash when Jones reached up and pulled on his leg crotching him on the top rope. Super D climbed up and delivered the Super-plex to retain the title. Snuka got up surprisingly quickly and marched to the back with what fans described as a furious expression on his face. Even more curious is that nobody in the ring, nor Gordon Solie on commentary acknowledged this with even the camera quickly moving away from Snuka upon his exit. Taped Fist Match. "The Unpredictable" Dick Slater defeats"Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez when The Assassin came down and jumped on the apron. As the ref argued with him, the Beasts of Burden came in through the crowd and delivered a double boot to Fernandez. The Assassin jumped down as his men cleared the ring allowing Slater to get the easy win. Slater and the Assassin shake hands before the masked man raises the hand of his apparent new client. NWA United States Title "Tennessee Stud" Robert Fuller w/"The Mastermind Ron Fuller defeats Junkyard Dog(c). Ron slid his brother the title belt but Randy Anderson quickly pried it away and handed it to the timekeeper. This was part of the plan however as Ron tossed Robert JYD's dog collar which served as the knockout blow. TITLE CHANGE!!! We see a promo hyping the 1989 edition of the Crockett Cup! NWA World Tag Team Titles. The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal)(c) defeat The Four Horsemen (Harley Race & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon. The Horsemen seemed to have the perfect game plan as they isolated Hawk and repeatedly targeted the injured arm. The face painted bruiser refused to submit and eventually made the tag to an enormous pop. Animal tore through the two veterans like a tornado before finishing Race with a powerslam that nearly drove the living legend through the mat. NWA World Heavyweight Title. "Rugged" Ron Garvin(c) defeats "The Ace" Bob Orton w/JJ Dillon. It looked like there would be a repeat of the Heritage Title bout as Dillon pulled Garvin's leg as he looked to set up the top rope sunsetflip allowing Orton to attempt his pattened Super-plex. However as he was lifting the champion up, Garvin scored with the "Hands of Stone" punch. Orton crashed to the mat with Garvin landing on top to retain the Ten Pounds of Gold.

Vinergy and the Saints are both ready for a showdown. The Foreman shows Doll why he's boss. Sweet Dreams may have just made the biggest mistake of their careers. Idol & Starr steal the main event. Nikita ends the show with a stark warning for Slaughter.
-
Simmes is putting herself at the head of the women's division. Champion is shooting for the top and Royal is cheering him on. PCO is establishing himself as MLW's hardcore specialist. The Maniac is too much for the Z man. Raymond demands an opportunity. Kevin stands tall in the cage. Neidhart defeats one Japanese star but another is waiting in the wings.

Now to be fair, 93 Fall Brawl is considered one of the worst in the events series. Or maybe that's just the Wargames match. Still, for a foreign promotion to outsell one of the two leading American promotions, especially one of their major shows, is undeniably impressive. -
WCW may seriously want to consider special security for Debeers. Humongous says there's only room for one streak in WCW. Double J found himself a workaround for dealing with Terri. The RnR Express is reunited and it feels so good. Roberts seemed to be expecting something there. Interesting. The King is in WCW! Dibiase may have lost the tag titles but he just scored himself a shot at the World title.

*Deep Breath* I wasn't expecting much but I at least hoped the first response would be serious. -

Every time I hear about Herb Abrams' UWF I can't escape the idea it had the potential. Abrams himself had a stellar track record as a businessman before starting the company. They had rather considerable funds on hand -Abrams had 2 million that he expected to last 5 years. They were on a nationwide channel, Sportschannel America, which was covering production cost for them and they had genuinely recognizable stars from the 80s i.e Paul Orndorf and Steve "Dr Death" Williams. Sadly Abrams' personal issues got in the way but his version of the UWF stands out to me as a true "what if?" of pro wrestling. My question to you reader is, if you were in Abrams' position, what would you have done? With the same TV deal, same finances and same personal how would you have handled the UWF?
