The weekend of January 20 & 21st. The Four Horsemen. After spending the last couple weeks touring Japan, Ole Anderson and Harley Race returned on Main Event with a convincing win over a pair of local talents. Afterwards JJ Dillon informed Sean Mooney and announced that his clients would invoke their rematch clause at SuperBrawl 2. Race said the Horsemen would prove once and for all that the Road Warriors are "all that and no cattle" and "coasting on a look they ripped off a b movie". Ole joined in and said that after dedicating his career to bringing wrestling excellence to tag wrestling, it drives him mad to see the titles the Andersons and Horsemen made famous held by two "roided up statues who can't tell a wristlock from a wristwatch". #1 contender Bob Orton also looked impressive in the main event of Worldwide with a clean win over Steve Wright. NWA World champion Ron Garvin was on commentary for the match and vowed to beat "The Ace" just like he did back in October. Orton dedicated the match winning Super-plex to the champ and the two closed the show with a tense state down. The Paul Jones Army. It was announced on Main Event that Jimmy Snuka would challenge The Super Destroyer for the NWA Heritage Championship at SuperBrawl 2 due to his pinning the champion as well as his generally impressive win ratio since returning. Jones was clearly seething about the decision as Shaska Whatley throttled a jobber of the week. Whatley was a good mood following his victory but Jones refused to even look at him as they returned to the locker room. Kamala squashing three unlucky souls later in the show at least put a smile on Jones' face. Roanoke. On Worldwide Bob Caudle announced a special show coming later in the week at the Roanoke Coliseum in Roanoke Virginia which will have massive implications for SuperBrawl 2. In Roanoke a one night 8 Man tournament will be held with the winner challenging Junkyard Dog for the NWA United States title at SuperBrawl 2, out of the first round matches announced the one that got the biggest reaction was the first encounter between Manny Fernandez and Dick Slater! That same night will see a four corners elimination tag team match with the winners challenging The Sheepherders for the NWA United States Tag Team titles.

Debeers may have already run his mouth a little too much if Simmons and Reed are talking about him. Rogers is perfectly content to let his lady do his fighting for him. Bad street may never be the same after The Grapplers show up. The Rock n Roll Express are together again and ready to take it to both Missy's boyfriend Eddie and her "good friend" John.

Glad to see the Backlund situation has been handled. Another great card.

Burke's move to the AWA is really paying off. The Fantastics are riled up and ready to go. The Saints are the latest victims of the Olympians sportsmanship. Vin Man makes a Fortunate acquisition while the AWA is in for some Sweet Dreams. Kaz gets mauled by a Grizzly. The Bullet's quest for payback nets Keirn a Southern title shot. St Clair gets the perfect theme song. Simpson is out but Glamor Doll is still going strong. The Gunslingers get a chance to flex. Devastation Inc is as dangerous as ever. Adias retains but the post match angle is what everyone will be talking about. Looks like Lightfoot's bad attitude rubbed off on Afi.

NWA drops Brett Sawyer and Bart Sawyer and signs Danny Davis and Ken Wayne.

Just wanted to point out that John Laurentius is listed on the NWA roster despite being employed by PCW.

Lotta angles going into the Rumble which means plenty of chances to see thing blow up.

Taped at the Civic Center before Main Event. Originally airing on 1/14/89 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Bob Caudle David Crockett "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant defeats "Beautiful" Bill Beverly with the "Groovin" elbow. Big John Studd w/Baby Doll squashes Ed Morrison in under a minute before applying a reverse bearhug and squeezing him until he passed out. Suffice to say, Baby Doll looked extremely pleased with her new bodyguard. The Eliminators (John Kronus Perry Saturn) defeat The Carolina Reapers with the double team move from last week which Caudle calls "Total Elimination" Main event. "Exotic" Adrian Street w/Ms Linda defeats Brad Anderson w/Ole Anderson with the Crossface Chicken Wing.

From the Civic Center in Fayetteville NC. Previously recorded & airing on 1/13/89 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Gordon Solie Ring announcer/Interviews: Sean Moony Match #1 The Lawmen (Billy Joe Travis & Doug Gilbert) vs The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobs & Jerry Saggs) The popular Lawmen put up a fierce fight but the brawlers from the streets of New York city brute forced their way to victory via a double DDT on Gilbert which Solie calls "a trip to Nastyville". Match #2 Super Strong Machine defeats Arthur Brown with the "Devil Windmill" suplex. SSM is joined by his students the Zero Fighters as he hands Mooney a letter. The announcer reads the message which states that the Japanese trio is challenging the Stud Stable for the Six Man Tag Team Titles. Match #3 The Master Blasters (Blade & Iron) defeat The Carolina Bobcats with the double team move from last week which Solie calls "Welcome to the Wasteland" Match #4 Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka vs "Black Bullet" Shaska Whatley w/"Number One" Paul Jones Jones was apparently irate that Snuka was able to pin Super Destroyer last week putting himself in prime position to challenge for the Heritage Championship and decided that Whatley would be the one to punish Snuka for this offense. To his credit Whatley launched an all out assault but ultimately fell to the "Superfly" splash. Jones was most unsatisfied by the result and lectured Whatley all the way up the aisle. Match #5 The debuting Dynamite Kid defeats The Pearl with a "Dragon" suplex. Before his match, Manny Fernandez joins Mooney and says that Dick Slater conveniently wasn't there this week but sooner or later he'd learn that when you mess with the bull, you get the horns. Match #6 "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez defeats "Ruthless" Rocco Maritato with the "Flying Burrito" Main Event. NWA World Heavyweight Champion "Rugged Ron Garvin & "The Doctor of Desire" Tom Prichard vs The Four Horsemen (Bob Orton & Buddy Landel) w/JJ Dillon A action packed main event with each man getting some shine. Garvin and Orton are largely kept apart before finding each other near the end. That end comes when a shot from Dillon's shoe leaves Prichard vulnerable to a corkscrew elbow from Landel for the three.

I thought Kev was speaking to you.

Karma's a bitch, ain't she Reno? DJ is on the case to expose Davis.

You know it's amazing how many people come to this thread specifically to shit on the company. If you don't like oyu could just not come to this thread. And Moose is in pretty big demand on the indies. He's been in Ring of Honor. Just because he's never been on WrestleMania doesn't make the guy a nobody.
-
No. I'M acknowledging that Nick Nemeth is a talented wrestler who was brought in to put eyes on the product and eventually put Moose over. You on the other hand, are pretending like he's some over the hill curtain-jerker who's randomly been elevated to the main event. The man was World champion in the industry leader. Of course when he moves to a smaller company like TNA they're going to put him in the main event. It''s a common sense move that any other company their size would make.
-
Was he groanworthy or was the material WWE stuck him with groanworthy? Because he assuredly was not the one writing the angles he was tasked with carrying out. And him taking a shot at the top champ is clearly an attempt to capitalize on his name recognition. You don't bring in a guy like Nemeth to feud with Johnny Swinger. Ya know?

Personally my feeling is that MLW should fully commit to the "real sports league" angle they already somewhat use. Vague references to "league officials" are fine and weight classes are a solid touch they could go even harder with a ranking system (occasionally mentioning PWI's is nice but I mean create their own) time limits displayed on a Fox Box and intruding a round robin tournament like all the major sports leagues do. Maybe call it the "MLW Grand Prix".
-
I can read the match descriptions! Nice and detailed. Simmes gets the first win in the Maple Leaf women's division. PCO and Neidhart both look strong and could be major players going forward.
-
Gilbert and Missy mouth off to the boss and quickly realize why that may not be the best career move. The search for the 4th Horseman begins... again. Muraco is after a rematch. Humperdinck promises to show what his monster can really do at Mayham. Double J, Rogers and Terri all introduce themselves to the new audience. Debeers is his usual charming self I see. Reed certainly seems to think so. The tag division is heating up but Williams may be breaking down. Douglas and Powers seem to be settling in. Nice to see Mr Wrestling 2 find a way to contribute to the next generation.

Oakland. Eventful night for the Wild Things. Jackal and the Juice Crew look strong while leader Jack goes down in defeat. Soultaker has a big match but gets interrupted. Another tough lost for Austin. Young gets caught in the path of the Bulldozer. San Francisco. Scotty just can't keep his eyes of Trisa. A tough win for the Animal. Young is gaining respect in defeat. Rose shows Gunn he isn't ready to ride off into the sunset. Severn and Payne get a bit of payback on the Syndicate. The Southern Boys continue to struggle. Taker and his cousin get into a real family feud. Fresno. He'd kill me for saying this but it's actually pretty sweet seeing Finlay get so proud of O'Grady. Adams outkicks Blackman. Kawada and Sasaki are putting it together. Bigelow looks like the Beast he's meant to be. Eddie seems comfortable with the Rainbow Warriors. Pillman and Malenko take each other to the limit.

Larry was trying to muddy up Jumbo's moment but Oliver wasn't having it. Orndorff asserts himself as Mid America champion. Solid return for the Foreman. The Bullet's feel good return is ruined by a also returning Idol. The AWA just got a burst of Vinergy...good grief. As an aside, DAMN Dukes was jacked. Dream Machine & Oliver both leave in a hurry and Chicky Starr has to return to have the Mean Machine's backs. What's DM up to? Akbar and Cameron, together again. Los Guerreros have truly embraced the family motto. Sarge already has another target. The Superstar is back! I for one totally bought Adias and Welch's comedy act. Randy wins the clash of cousins to win a TV title shot.

You can find them on the NJPW subreddit. You might be surprised at how many people find their schtick entertaining.

Personally I like when heels do these kind of petty, dick moves. If nothing else it's a creative angle.

Bert addresses the situation in Memphis to start the show. Hickerson doesn't strike me as the management type but in a territory like MCW i think he could pull it off. Loved Dundee's opponent doing a Flair impersonation. Davis is just being shameless at this point. Riggins may have just become MCW's biggest heel after costing the Wildside the tag titles and joining up with Debb...i mean Princess Dee. Southern tries to make the traitor pay but he slips through his fingers.
