  1. Southern & Robley's monsters get solid wins. Wright & Stevens take down the Baron. Missy's got all the men's attention and it's driving Eddie nuts. Steiner gives a good fight but Bam Bam is too much to handle right now. Tully takes the cheap win against Wahoo. JYD claims vengeance on Uncle Ivan. Speaking of whom, he bails out nephew Nikita & the night ends with a pier-six brawl. Certainly feels like Mid-South.
  2. NWA Live at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Jacksonville FL 8/18/87 "Super Rookie Hiroshi Hase wins a 20 man battle royal to challenge for the NWA United States Title in the main event. Brutha's in Arms (Shaska Whatley, Tiger Conway Jr & Iceman Parsons) w/Slick The S&S Express (Joe Savoldi &Shaun Simpson) & "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez when Slick distracted the referee allowing Stan Hansen to run in & hit Fernandez with the Lariat letting Parsons get the pin. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes defeats Ole Anderson w/JJ Dillon by DQ when Buddy Landel ran in & attacked Rhodes. NWA United States Title. Stan The Lariat Hansen(c) defeats "Super Rookie" Hiroshi Hase after powering out of the "Scorpion Death Lock" & hitting the Lariat. Hansen looked to continue assaulting Hase after the bell but Manny Fernandez ran down & a massive pull-apart brawl broke out which took the entire security team to break up. The whole time, the crowd was chanting "let them fight".
  3. NWA Live at the "Old" Charlotte Coliseum in Charlotte NC 8/16/87 The debuting Ron Slinker defeats a local talent with a Roundhouse kick. "The Haitian Sensation" Tyree Pride vs Zodiac ends in a 10 minute time limit draw. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair(c) defeats Arn Anderson w/JJ Dillon in a absolute clinic that sees Anderson submit to the Figure Four. Huge hometown pop for the World Champion.
  4. Venomous starts the night with a major win. Blackwell crushes the Beast. Larry Z breaks out a devastating new finisher against the Corporal. Fleming's rear naked choke is as effective as ever. Congratulations to the new National tag team champions, The Technicans. Busick wins one hell of a slugfest to retain his title. Polynesian Power stands tall after a grueling battle with Iaukea's Killers. The incredible reign of El Canek is over thanks to...Greg Gagne, Mike George & Gama Singh. Did NOT see that coming. Thanks to the numbers game, the Bruise Brothers retain. Bad News sends shockwaves through the AWA by defeating Ricky Steamboat. And now what we've all been waiting for, WAR GAMES! Heels win the coin toss because obviously. Love that every time a heel enters the face their feuding with is right behind them. It's also funny to me how the entering heel is knocked on his but while the faces all clear house. Great chaotic ending with the despised Rich being the one to surrender. Another great Spaldoni supershow!
  5. The Irish McNeil's Boys Club! The Revolution is seemingly through as Mid-South is going back to its roots.Ladd cements that by announcing the return of the Louisiana title. Pissed off Koloffs aren't good for anybody, especially anybody holding a title. Col. Buckley & his monsters aren't finished with the Freebirds yet. JYD is frothing mad & Wahoo gets personal with Ivan. Ron Wright & the CWA are also on the Freebirds trail. But it seems the line starts behind Gilbert who's looking to defend his lady's "honor". Speaking of Missy, looks like she's got her eye on Prichard. El Jefe is in Mid-South & his Cartel looks more dangerous than ever.
  6. I see Johnny V is still angling to take RPG's place....& still doing a pretty good job of it. Brown;s career does indeed appear to be on the Upswing since coming to Twin States. Classic Gene angle with Fuller paying Barnes' fine just so he can whoop him. We'll see if it was worth it come Resurrection. The Nightmares & Los Mega Stars, tow credible options to become Twin States new tag champs. Ustinov & Ross both arrive & we have our American patriot vs Soviet invader feud. Nice to see Ron Bass & Joel Deaton sticking together. Excited to see who Mantell brings into even the odds. I've got a pretty good idea. I like the ending to the main event. Travis looks gutsy, the Rich's look compassionate (though in a way Travis could take exception too) & the Japanese contingent look like bastards. Lester & Johnny's bickering throughout the night was a great touch. Associate producer Bob Blehschmidt....now there's a name you don't see everyday.
  7. Burke falls prey to the Big Cat. OMG takes his rage out on Simmons causing Windham to come to the rescue. Maeda reasserts himself at the expense of the eldest Guerrero brother. Owen deters Young's quest to redeem himself. Ed has a Wild first title defense. Speaking of Wild, Sabu gives Pillman a hell of a fight to retain the Light Heavyweight Title.
  8. A Bunkhouse match makes for a great opener. Royal blames Cooley for his screw up but Wildcat isn't having it. Poor Barr's got no clue what happened. Peterson slamming Boone must've been a incredible sight & I know I would've popped for it. Putski blitz's Kelly & even shuts up the Vin Man Yeah! Glamour Boys win the main event but Hickerson has a backup plan & it works perfectly. If anyone wasn't sold for Collision in the Coliseum, they are now!
  9. First Victoria. Flowers & Acevedo certainly make quite the sight together. And it seems they make a effective duo. Mr Backlund's opening line got a chuckle. But what followed was no laughing matter as he puts all the Knights Templar on notice. Hito returns to fill in for the departing Furnas. Todd Morton reconciles with one former partner to try & reach out to another. The Southern Boys introduce themselves to the Wild Things with a win. Maxx brings the Payne to Mando. PCO's singles debut has a bumpy start but Windham sees big things in his future. Bubba interjects himself in the main event taking his feud with Red to the next level. On to Vancouver. Easy Ed taps to the Hitman. Not be be outdone, Neidhart submits Hector Guerrero. Finlay gets a second helping of payback in the six man tag. Acevedo proves his worth as a partner. British Steel score their first successful defense. Mr Backlund shows his men how it's done by proving he has Jarrett's number.
  10. I've never watched actual Portland Wrestling so it doesn't make much difference to me. But, & forgive me for saying so, the idea that PCW has had its action called by a dead man this whole time is pretty dang funny.
  11. Good teamwork gives Rogers & Shaw the win in the opener. RPM's get a nice showcase & the start of a new rivalry. Embry's desperation really puts Benoit over despite him not winning. Good job. I'm glad you put that video in there because I couldn't picture Big Poppa Pump doing a 450 otherwise. A wild tag match see Bruno's men in disary while Muta sets his sights on Lex's title. Dibiase sends Borne out of the UWF cementing him as the top heel of the company. I really like the touch of the bedazzled glove. Roberts sends Dibiase a congratulatory gift but I don't think it was well received.
  12. Simmes outlasts 5 other women to become the new TV champ & put herself on the road to a world title shot. After going through a bit of a slump, Maxine is back on the winning track. The Giant Slayers capture tag team gold but at the cost of putting Singh on a rampage. McIntyre retains against a spirited Nellie. Medusa has to get tricky to retain in the cage. Great TV main event.
  13. I always liked booking Kamala in these multi man squashes. Happy to see that return. Casey returns the favor from Danger Zone. And their partnership is official with a successful debut over the Oriental Monsters. The Renegade Warriors & The Kansas Jayhawks exchange singles wins. Bigelow is looking strong ahead of the elimination match in Lockport. Chaotic finish to the tag main event of episode 8. Garvin is gonna have a lot to answer for. The WCPW tag division will be on full display at Under The Lights.
  14. Taped at the Township Auditorium before WCW. Originally airing on 8/14/87 With your host "The Dean of professional wrestling" Gordon Solie! "Super Rookie" Hiroshi Hase defeats Executioner with the "Scorpion Death Lock". Tough Guy Inc (Don Bass & Duke Myers) defeat Rocky King & "Stray Cat" Brodie Chase with a double Lariat on Chase. One thing of note is that Bass & Myers were accompianed by an unnamed man in a leather jacket, sunglasses, blue jeans & with a full beard & hairy chest. "Soul Man" Rocky Johnson defeats "Tough" Tony Falk with the "Soul Man Shuffle". Main event. Winner challenges for the NWA World Television Title on next week's WCW. "Golden Boy" Chic Donavon w/"Sensational" Sherri Martel defeats "The Polynesian Prince" Siva Afi after Martel struck Afi with her heel allowing Donavon to pull Afi into a schoolboy. In other news... After their match, Tough Guy Inc cut a promo introducing their newest member, Big Daddy Cyrus (Lanny Kean) who they say is going to take their operation to the next level. They put a particular emphasis on the Six Man Tag Team Titles. Speaking of which, Solie announces that feud between the Celestial Trinity & The Grapplers/Brian Adidas will look to come to an end at the Labor Day Spectacular where they will meet one last time under elimination rules. We see a promo package hyping the return of the "British Magician" Steve Wright who Solie praises as "one of the most technically gifted men in the sport today".
  15. From the Township Auditorium in Columbia SC. Previously recorded/Airing on 8/13/87 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone. Ring Announcer: David Crockett. "The Haitian Sensation" Tyree Pride vs Barry O The NWA continues its quest to bring the finest international talent by bringing in the exciting Tyree Pride from Port-au-Prince. He stuns O with fast paced high flying offense which quickly endears him to the crowd. O is completely overwhelmed & falls to a Flying Body press. A promising start for Mr Pride. Shaun Simpson vs "Black Bullet" Shaska Whatley w/Slick The S&S Express challenge the Brutha's for the NWA United States Tag Team Titles at Labor Day Spectacular. Tonight each team sends a representative in a attempt to feel each other out. We get a nice contrast of styles with a couple changes in momentum. The end sees Simpson climb to the top rope looking for a big shot to put Whatley away. But Whatley grabs the refs attention allowing Slick to jump on the apron & shove Simpson off sending him crashing to the mat. Shaska pounces on Simpson picking him up & slamming him down hard before scaling the ropes himself & coming off with the "Flying Willie". The Express has been on a role lately but the Brutha's aren't giving up their prized titles without a fight. B. Brian Blair vs Tony Anthony Another feud that's been brewing in the tag ranks is between The Killer Bees & The Dirty White Boys. Anthony proves quite adept at drawing heat while Blair is a natural face. That plus the way their styles interact keeps the fans engaged throughout. Blair seems to have it won with a Missile dropkick but Len Denton storms the ring to save his partner the indignity of a pinfall loss. He helps Anthony to his feet & they beat Blair down until Jim Brunzell runs out with a chair causing the DWB's to dive to the floor. David Crockett announces Blair the winner by disqualification but it's clear that's no comfort to the Bees who are both daring their rivals to come back to the ring. Tony Schiavone standing mid-ring: Ladies & Gentlemen, my guest at this time is the man who will challenge "Nature Boy" Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at the Labor Day Spectacular. Please welcome "Adorable" Adrian Adonis & his manager "Sensational" Sherri Martel! (The Columbia faithful "welcome" the villainous duo with a chorus of boos. Adonis has his nose up the whole walk to the ring while Martel glares into the crowd as if she's waiting for someone to try something so she can tear their face off. Adonis holds the ropes open for Martel who casts Schiavone a withering look as he holds the mic up.) TS: Sherri Martel, at the Labor Day Spectacular your man Adrian Adonis has the opportunity of a lifetime, a shot at the richest prize in our sport the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. After winning that battle royal last week, you must be pretty confident in your chances. SM: Why wouldn't I be confident Tony Schiavone? I've got the most beautiful wrestler in the NWA, I've got the toughest wrestler in the NWA & I've got the wrestler with the most dangerous submission hold in all of sports "Goodnight Irene". And if you don't believe me you can ask Ric Flair himself, that is if he's even woken up yet. (Martel breaks into laughter while Adonis moves to the mic.) AA: Ric Flair, if you think what I did to you in Atlanta was the worst that's coming to you then you've got another thing coming! That was just a taste of what I have in store at the Labor Day Spectacular. I've been waiting 13 years for this chance to come & I'm not letting it slip by for anything. Make no mistake in Richmond I'm going to.... (Adonis' threat is cut off by the crowd exploding into cheers as Ric Flair himself walks to the ring dressed to the 9's and the Ten Pounds of Gold over his shoulder. He pauses just long enough to let out a "Wooooo" before entering the ring & sizing up his challenger. To his credit Adonis doesn't look the least bit intimidated & Martel looks more angered at the interruption than anything.) RF: You know I was in the back talking to some friends when I heard people calling my name. So I figured I'd come out and see what all the commotion was. Now Adrian I hear you out here talking about it taking you 13 years to get your shot at World Title well I'm afraid you're been waiting all this time for nothing. Now I'll give your due, you put me down in Atlanta but if we're being honest it's only because this*points a finger at Martel* shreikng Banshee got me to take my eye off the ball. *Martel lunges at Flair but Adonis holds out an arm cutting her off* And unfortunately for you pall, I don't fall for the same trick twice, make no mistake come Richmond you're gonna have the full undivided attention of the Naitcha Boy. AA: You think I need her help to beat you? Well let's test that theory shall we? (Before anyone can register what happened, Adonis nails the champ with a right hand causing him to stumble back & drop the title. Adonis tries to follow up with a clothesline but Flair ducks & chops Adonis into the corner. Martel jumps up on Flair's back & starts clawing at his face. He flails about before finally flinging her over his shoulder & onto the mat. But as he stands up straight, Adonis rushed forward & slaps on "Goodnight Irene"! Flair tries to fight him off but Martel gets up, takes on of her heels off & starts driving it into Flair's head. Security files into the ring but Martel nails a few with of them with the heel which causes the rest to back off. By this point Flair is bloodied & going out. Martel raises his arm once... twice... three times. Adonis releases Flair & Martel hands him the World Title. They pose together as the boos rain down.) NWA World Television Title Tom "MegaMan" McGee(c) vs Jimmy Golden Things don't look good for McGee as Robert Fuller accompanies his cousin to ringside. But referee Tommy Young puts his foot down & declares that as Fuller has no managers license he has to leave before the match starts. Fuller protests for a bit but ultimately leaves when Young threatens to DQ Golden then & there. Observant fans would notice that Fuller leaves his towel behind as he goes. To his credit, Golden proves a more than capable challenge on his own, displaying an impressive mix of southern brawling & technical ability. McGee shows the resielance that's come to define his reign & is able to create several openings for himself. Golden grows increasingly frustrated throughout the match & decides to pull a hail-mary. He makes a show of removing one of the turnbuckle pads & when Young goes to fix it, Golden grabs the towel & swings it at McGee's head. McGee ducks however & when Golden turns around for another swing the champ catches him with a boot to the gut & wrests the towel away. He checks with the crowd who give their enthusiastic approval before nailing Golden with the towel before tossing it -and whatever is wrapped inside it- to the outside. Young turns around to see McGee make the cover & makes the count. The MegaMan era continues.
  16. OK, night 2. Missy's always there to lend her boys a helping hand. An assault with the chain leaves the Russians DQ'd & JYD's status in doubt. The Freebirds pay evil unto evil. Robley's monsters catch Lightning in a bottle. Mulligan stands tall after a bloody strap match. Anyone gonna be surprised if Tully blames Dark Journey? Between a injured partner & the interference of Hyatt, there was only so much Wahoo could do. Robley learns you have to get up pretty early to outsmart the Freebirds. Jumbo gives a gutsy effort earning him the respect of the Houston fans. Class act by new champion Williams. Hayes intercepts Hyatt allowing the Freebirds to become your first Mid-South Revolution Tag Team Champions.
  17. Simmons starts night 2 by declawing the Big Cat. Finlay finally gets his payback on Rose. The younger Gantner doesn't win the match but he does win Dingo's respect. Vicious powerbombs Konnan all the way to Louisiana. Hennig gets some retribution of his own sending Young deeper into worry over his place in the Knights Templar. Cornette's racket plays a pivotal role in the Rainbow Warriors leaving PCW. Wild Things take the L tonight but aren't calming down anytime soon. A desperate Young saves his mentors titles but at considerable financial cost. A distraction from a mystery man isn't enough to keep The Bomb Squad from capturing the Pacific Tag Titles. Windham with a enormous Lariat to perhaps finally end his feud with OMG. Bock has to go deep into his bag of tricks to retain against Billy Jack. Another great 2 night event from PCW.
  18. NWA drops Spike Huber & Ray Odessy. NWA signs Steve Wright & Tyree Pride.
  19. First let me say i agree with Kev about you keeping this format. Seems to be in line with how a lot of territories ran their TV shows with only a or 2 matches of importance & the rest being skippable while the interviews moved the real stories forward. Bugsy provides an entertaining opener. Can't wait for his first promo. Next we get the return of a Twin States staple, Johnny Valiant with his new charge "Downtown" Denny "Uptown" Dennis Brown. I loved Fuller completely no-selling the new gimmick. Though i will thank Mr Valiant to refrain from slandering the NWA World Champion. First day on the job & Papa-San is already causing trouble. Love to see it. I'm liking this pissed off Barnes. Of course i'll alike it better when Fuller comes back & gets his hands on him. Something else i'll second Kev on, Johnny V would make a good replacement for RPG. What better way to end the return episode of Twin States than to have a Cowboy beat an Outlaw? But i'm sure Deaton will have something up his sleeve for the rematch next week. Great return for Twin States Wrestling.
  20. Brown shows plenty of bluster in his opening promo but he finds out real quick what happens when you provoke a Dragon! Kirchner is ready to put Zbysko through the boot camp from hell. Gama has his boys ready for the Collision. He also seems to have a surprise in store. Busick isn't impressed with Billy Jack's displays if strength. Nelson costs his own team & Cooley lets him hear about it. Brooks & Hickerson are fired up & ready for the cage! Blackwell & Morgan may well tear the Coliseum down around them. Iaukea & his men in front of a volcano is such a cool visual. Snuka & Kokina give a strong response from the beach. Tatsucker & Yahtzee. LOL. Kelly is full of confidence heading into Collision Countdown. We end the show on a great scene as the War Games teams can't wait to tear into each other.
  21. The Pretty Young Thing gets the crowd warmed up. I like how you touch on the... questionable elements in a "Cowboy vs Indians" match. Feud should still be fun though. Jannety takes advantage of the chaos ringside to take the surprise win. Precious helps her man win but can't do anything as Roberts is the one standing tall. Casey & Irwin could do big things together. Adams wins in a instant classic that shows what both men are made of. Mr Wrestling 2 provides both a nice pop & a fine feather in Reed's cap. The Young Guns overcome the numbers to stake their claim as the future of WCPW.
  22. The Malenko brothers prove their worth to Gary Hart with a win over Coast 2 Coast. The Hands of Stone crack when placed on the Anvil. Steel falls to a rampaging Grizzly. Red manages to put down Bubba tonight but the Louisville Slugger will be back. The Wild Eyed Southern Boys are back in PCW & back on the straight & narrow. Payne may have won but Pringle looks like he should be in a funeral home! Maeda's streak comes to an end courtesy of the Beast. British Steel is taking the Golden State Tag Team Titles back to jolly old England. RPG finally has some gold in his Bullpen. Pillman makes it 3 for 3 as he ends the incredible reign of Black Tiger. The Flyin' Brian era has begun.
  23. Hot Stuff Inc isolate Brett leading to a win in the opener. Gotta be honest, I consider Cash & Prichard beating the Hart Brothers something of a upset. Crowd must've been so pissed when the Russians advanced. But a win from Wahoo &JYD put them back in a good mood. The Freebirds are definitely the favorites to win & they prove it by getting past the Commonwealth. Wright's chisel earns his men a place in the second round. The Nightmares almost steal a win but the fans rat them out. Robley certainly found himself a pair of monsters & may just be the surprise of the tournament. Jumbo wins the big one with some help from Dr Death but now has to defend against him with a bum leg. Let's see how Williams acts on night 2.
  24. Dibiase learns to keep Borne's name out of his mouth. It leads to the two of them settling it in a cage where the loser is gone! Vader makes a great hired gun for Embry. It backfires however as it allows Muta to embarrass him before the big tag match. Rage in a Cage promises some major head-on collisions. Benoit & Steiner are in position to have break out performances.
  25. NWA places Black Bart on the block.
