  1. Not really. I don't know if impressionism is the right analogy, but I think the basic appeal of lucha is seeing a hold done in a way you don't wouldn't expect. Lucha has definite match structures however and this particular match worked in both a narrative sense and as a title match. We are way off though, since Portland 2/3 fall matches to me have the worst rhythm of any two out of three fall matches I've ever seen and I don't think Buddy Rose holds a candle to Satanico on any level. I love Satanico but Buddy Rose is so awesome you must have been watching his WrestleMania jobber match on a loop if that is how little you think of him or have a complete disconnect on what makes an American heel great.
  2. Texas is another super hard one once you put down any Freebird or Von Erich. less gimmicky than Memphis but not by much. Another double cage main event like my Mid South dream card. I was going to have matches where Freebirds and Von Erichs fought other guys but thought I would stay true to the Freebird-Von Erich feud and have them fight each other. Plus, midgets, gotta have midgets. The Fantastics vs. Midnight Express (12/25/84) Little Mr. T vs. Little Tokyo (3/21/86) Black Bart vs. Scott Casey (Texas Bullrope Match) (12/1/86) Chris Adams vs. Gino Hernandez (Hair vs. Hair) (1/27/86) Abdullah the Butcher vs. Bruiser Brody (8/4/86) *Intermission* Iceman King Parsons vs. One Man Gang (Taped Fist Match) (10/6/85) Buddy Roberts vs. David Von Erich (3/18/83) Kevin Von Erich vs. Terry Gordy (10/21/83) Eric Embry vs. PY Chu-Hi (Cage Match) (8/4/89) Kerry Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes (Loser Leaves Town Cage Match) (11/24/83)
  3. I had fun looking through the Mid South matches so I'll try Memphis now. The huge problem here is once you picka Dundee vs. Lawler match, you have eliminated about 75 matchups so I have to go for a Lawler vs. somebody and a Dundee vs. somebody to spice the card up. This is really gimmick heavy but it's fucking Memphis. If Memphis had a WrestleMania, it would look like this and looking through the 1982 Memphis book, it is quite possible some of those shows were as stacked as this one. Shogun & Samurai vs. Mason Dixon Connection (3/25/89) The Nightmares vs. Fire and Flame (7/12/86) Eddie Marlin vs. Tommy Gilbert (Cowboy Boot Match) (4/4/88) Randy Savage vs. Rick Rude (9/3/84) Tommy Rich & Eddie Gilbert vs. Phil Hickerson & The Spoiler (Tennessee Street Fight) (6/25/84) Jimmy Valiant vs. The Assassin (Hair vs. Mask) (4/2/84) Austin Idol vs. Stan Hansen (Bunkhouse Match) (10/10/83) Fabulous Ones vs. Moondogs (6/13/83) Bill Dundee vs. Sweet Brown Sugar (2/3 falls, Scaffold Match) (6/21/82) Jerry Lawler vs. Dutch Mantell (Barbed Wire Match) (3/29/82)
  4. At least you watched this card. I don't think the 2 main events of SSLam 2011 were as good as the top 2 main events on this card but we can argue that some more. What third match from 2011 matches Christian-ADR in your opinion?
  5. I don't mind someone criticizing booking decisions to shows they have never watched. I have read enough TNA reports to be able to do that. That's fine. Don't come in here and rip shit you have never seen when discussing match quality.
  6. Truth. It was the Kahwi Leonard of the night. Or at the Kahwi before Parker got hurt, at which point this would be the Tony Parker of the night. I like you. Don't bring this up again.
  7. Wait... you are dogging a show and comparing it to other shows when you haven't watched the entire card yet? If you haven't watched it yet then you are just raining on people's parade. Maybe you should step back and wait until you have actually seen the show.
  8. I guess I need to find out where my Tier 1 ends and my Tier 2 begins because I can't think of a Tier 1 list without El Dandy and William Regal.
  9. I like your peak and trough challenge. I'll go for a Mid South/UWF super card. Since Dibiase and Duggan are in the main event, that takes out a ton of matches from the Mid South set that might have been on the show. There is something for everyone on this show... Technical showcase (Chavo vs. Olympia), short Midcard matches (Koko, Robley matches), tag team action, Mexicans, big feuds and a double cage main event. I also left enough Mid South wrestlers featured on the set off so you can run another super card on the same night in another town (Jake, Doc, JYD, Flair, Freebirds, Buzz etc.) Chavo Guerrero vs. Mr. Olympia Buck Robley vs. One Man Gang Dutch Mantel & Bill Dundee vs. The Fantastics Hector Guerrero vs. Jose Lothario Rock N Roll Express vs. Midnight Express *Intermission* Koko B Ware vs. Eddie Gilbert Dick Murdoch vs. The Nightmare Chris Adams vs. Terry Taylor Mr. Wrestling 2 & Magnum TA vs. Butch Reed & Jim Neidhart (Cage Match) Jim Duggan vs. Ted Dibiase (Cage Match)
  10. I said it may be the best Summerslam ever.
  11. Yeah lucha may not be for you. That match is pretty iconic.
  12. I try to keep my postage costs down but I had to raise prices for overseas because the increase feels outrageous.
  13. Dave said it was hard for him to do ratings when he went to live shows (something he doesn't have to worry about with UFC shows) and it was easier to watch it on his TV and get his work done than flying out to the PPV. This was his response on a random podcast but it sounded like a reasonable explanation.
  14. If it leads to a Daniel Bryan vs. HBK Beard vs. Beard match... I am ok with that.
  15. No they don't. HHH isn't crippled like Undertaker. They can and will put him in a PPV match just to show where the power lies. I don't disagree with your argument Will, but it's worth noting that HHH got his "I'm the Messiah, fuck the underlings" nut win Bryan took the fall off of his finisher, with Orton literally doing nothing Lets hope so but the Punk thing was such a "Know your place" match that I can see Bryan getting the same reinforcement. Also, when Punk beat Cena two years ago, it was HHH's buddy Nash who got to do the honors. I still see HHH-Bryan in the next couple of months.
  16. No they don't. HHH isn't crippled like Undertaker. They can and will put him in a PPV match just to show where the power lies.
  17. This is the part that concerns me. If Punk would have feuded with anyone but HHH in 2011, his momentum would not have been killed. I feel that HHH goes over Bryan in a NO DQ match next pPV and kills Bryan dead.
  18. Shit ending and shit opener aside, after the wounds heal, this may go over as one of the greatest in-ring Summerslams ever.
  19. Ok, too bad my prediction didn't come true. The finish sucked. Evolution Version 2. John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan - Great slow building match with Bryan winning. Now HHH can beat Bryan next month to show him his place. Hell, we knew this was coming.
  20. Did JBL just say "What a fucking clothesline?"
  21. Shit.. just occurred to me... Cena gets beat with 15-20 minutes left in the PPV and then DB wrestles Orton for 15-20 minutes. That's my prediction within the next 5 minutes.
  22. I agree with Dylan that the Cena match may have been better because it was Lesnar's big return so he didn't have the HHH stain on him yet and it was worked completely different than any other WWE match in the last... well ever. Still, with the limitations they worked within (no blood, WWE style), it was about as good as it gets.
  23. The crowd sounded pretty loud on my screen. Much louder than the entirety of the HHH-Lesnar Wrestlemania match.
  24. AJ and Big E. vs. Dolph & Kaitlyn - Seems like they are just going through the motions but you can't expect them to follow that Punk-Lesnar match.
