  1. This was built upon. Jake stole the Million Dollar Belt and Ted was trying to get it back but Jake would put it with Damian much to the frustration of Virgil who ended up on the other side of a DDT for his troubles almost every time they were in the ring.
  2. Fun match but I don't fucking love it. I also watched it in context when I built up the Death of WCW set. At that point, everything felt so stupid, you just want to stop watching WCW.
  3. You have to give me a date or show for that.

  5. Family don't count.
  6. I will try to get as many softball announcements as possible.
  7. Maybe show 2. Send me a PM and let me know your schedule. Maybe I can work something out for Show 2.
  8. Take that talk to the Kane thread. After having Alice Cooper and Freddy Mercury in my avatar for years, it did disappoint people that I was just a fat dude with dirty blonde hair who needed to shave.
  9. FUCK YEAH!!!
  10. Jerry Lawler & Bill Dundee vs. Gary Young & John Tatum - Great stuff early on with Young selling both Dundee’s and Lawler’s super punches. The tease of racking Young and crotching him on the ring post early on is really well done. I fucking love the way Young escapes the crotching thanks to Tatum bailing him out only for Lawler to come around crotch him and level him to the floor right before the break. Fucking awesome!!! When we come back ,Dundee does a crotch stomp on Tatum and he sells it like death and they try to crotch him on the ring post! Tatum regroups and as he stands there, Dundee just levels Young with a punch while he is on the apron. Dundee dares Tatum to a test of strength and Tatum is just laughing at him. During the test of strength, Lawler comes in between the two and punches Tatum in the face and he sells it like death. Fuck yeah! With Young back in, he wants a test of strength, and in a sweet spot, both Young and Tatum get punched in the face by Lawler and Dundee after Tatum tries to pull a Lawler and get in the test but Lawler meets him there. At this point, things pick up in a big way with Lawler and Dundee working great as a team but eventually Dundee gets caught in the heel corner. Back from the break, Dundee plays FIP and the heels work him over. Dundee gets a hot tag and Lawler is the legal man but as he is brawling outside, Rod Price knocks Dundee out and Tatum gets a pin on Dundee who is not the legal man. The finish was dogshit but the match was fucking great while it lasted. The comedic elements were funny but the psychology was sound early on. These guys probably had a MOTYC in them if this was the Mid South Coliseum. I need to show this to Phil. He would love this as much as I did.
  11. I want to argue the points... that is what makes it fun.
  12. I will make a longer post later about why Hayes was so great at his peak but Kris, you really should just complete the trifecta and make the case why Gordy was such a great wrestler. Every time, I discover someone new, Gordy keeps dropping down my list and I don't see enough new Gordy to help him bump back up.
  13. I love those Race photos
  14. I am disappointed in you Kris. You watched the same fucking Texas set I did and you are still carrying on with this talking point? Hayes could work as well as anyone else in Texas at the time and was in better matches than Roberts it isn't even close. It might not even be a surprise that Roberts best match was against Hayes during their feud.
  15. OK, I am going to take this show from Feb. 1987 which looks pretty loaded but has no Hogan or Andre, who would main event Mania in a couple of weeks from here... Guys that were capable of good/great matches in other feds or territories and maybe even the WWF include... Demolition (is this pre-Darsow? If so, even better), Islanders, Koko B Ware, Tito Santana, Butch Reed, Harts, Bees, Jake Roberts, Bundy, Honky, Pedro, Piper, JYD, Steamboat, Savage, Adonis and Race. Some of these guys may be past their prime (Pedro) but if booked right, could probably still be relevant. I am not saying that 1987 JYD could have a good match but he was still a player at the time. Guys in the fed who wrestled for WWF that week but not on this show who could be pushed in a compelling gimmick or feud if the WWF was behind them even if the matches were weak... Dan Spivey, Lanny Poffo, The Rougeaus, Martel & Zenk, Muraco (I think he sucks), Orndorff, Hillbilly Jim, Blackjack Mulligan was still wrestling?, Beefcake and Valentine, Kamala, Hercules, Billy Jack Haynes, Moondog Spot (Latham was great as late as 1992), George Steele, Hacksaw Duggan, Iron Sheik, Dick Slater. Plus, you had Andre and Hogan about to headline Mania. Now, here is a show from Crockett the same week in Philadelphia fucking PA... These are some guys I would pay money to see or were pushed in Crockett at the time... Bob Armstrong (fuck yeah), Arn, Luger, Tully, Horner, Wahoo, Jimmy Garvin (about to get World Title program), MX, Dusty, Nikita, Russians, RNR, RNR, Flair, Windham So these are guys that week who did not appear on this show... Barbarian, Jimmy Valiant, Bill Dundee, Hector Guerrero, Dutch Mantel, Dick Murdoch, Brad Armstrong, Ole Anderson, Baron Von Raschke, Big Bubba, Ron Garvin, Watley. Fuck, where is Bobby Jaggers? He didn't wrestle that week I guess. I think I was generous to both companies in the comparison. The point is that Crockett had more feuds I cared about in this era than WWF even though WWF had a deep roster of guys they could have made me care about if they were intent on making me care about them. What if WWF used Moondog Spot the way Memphis used him in 1992? Duggan, Haynes, Slater, Martel, Valentine, Reed, Orndorff... all guys who were trusted to run main events all over the territories and could still be pushed into compelling feuds. WWF had a deep roster. I think Jerry was correct there. It was the booking and character presentation that was dogshit.
  16. It's war Tom.. .war... I am going to take two cards I did not go to and compare them in a minute.
  17. You are so far ahead of me you should be good to go bud.
  18. "... and the wheels on the bus go round and round" I would love for both of you to elaborate.
  19. More details for tomorrow night... 1. I will moderate the discussion. I don't want people to stay silent but if we get a big group, I don't want people just shouting over each other. Best case scenario... I get everyone's names before the show begins and I can play zookeeper. I want this to be fun for those of us talking but also for the listener. Try not to dominate the conversation with 5 minute soliloquies on how Ken Patera's full nelson is weaker than Billy Jack Haynes. Lets allow everyone to get their point in but if someone already made your point, no need to repeat what has already been said. 2. I am going to devote 2 hours per podcast to this to begin with. If this becomes too rough for people then i may scale it back later down the road but I have had 2 hour conversations with Phil, Loss, Dylan, Johnny Sorrow, Childs, etc. without even trying before. When you have matches to occupy your time, it should be easy to kill 2 hours. 3. If too many people are participating (not a bad thing) but feel your voice is getting drowned out, I may add a 2nd show each week (maybe on a Wednesday) so people can participate and have a choice which night works best for them. 4. I hope everyone has muscled their way through the 1st disc already. I have and already have an idea where those matches will rank. I am proposing we start with Disc 2 mainly because I want to jump on the Ken Patera bandwagon. So tomorrow night's line up... Adrian Adonis vs. Hulk Hogan (10/17/82) Ken Patera & Jesse Ventura vs. Hulk Hogan & Mad Dog Vachon (1/16/83) Ken Patera, Jesse Ventura & Bobby Heenan vs. Hulk Hogan & High Flyers (3/13/83) Crusher Blackwell & Sheik Adnan Kaissey vs. Baron Von Raschke & Mad Dog Vachon (Taped Fist Match) (3/13/83) Nick Bockwinkel vs. Rick Martel (3/13/83) Nick Bockwinkel vs. Hulk Hogan (4/24/83) Crusher Blackwell & Sheik Adnan Kaissey vs. Verne Gagne & Mad Dog Vachon (4/24/83) 5. Finally... get there early. If the show has already started and we have already synched up, unless you have already watched the matches (like Dylan or Dave) it might be best just to follow along or jump in on the next podcast. I will post the link and call in number tomorrow afternoon so check this thread.
  20. Yes. I think talkshoe archives the shows automatically. Even for those who don't want to actually talk can synch up their discs along with us and just follow along. If they have to watch the matches the next day or this weekend, it might be easier to get motivated by synching up and following the conversation as they watch.
  21. This may be a dumb question but a.m. or p.m.? PM
  22. To be honest, I would probably have Kane below HHH but this last run with the Shield PPV six man and his work with Bryan has softened my stance on him. I think I mentioned in the Rumble thread that Kane & Bryan are one step away from having a MOTYC in them. Plus, I don't know if Trips ever had as good of a run as the Unabomber and Al Snow. I would have to think about that.
  23. Follow along with us on the podcast tomorrow or when you have a couple of hours of free time to catch up on AWA.
  24. Very valid point. If I see a bump from an older yearbook, I try to read it. With the current yearbook, I usually wait until a month has been completed (usually by Loss) and then read all the comments. Maybe some of the more contentious matches / segments can be branched into a new thread on the main forum with a link to the yearbook thread for further discussion.
