So you didn't book the match then, Rob?
-
I'm an admitted huge Cornette fan, but I'll admit that I didn't care for some of his ideas either, but I still thought he booked in the angle well for the most part. I don't see what's so bad about this. Austin/Foley hadn't been done in nearly four years by the time of WM, and it would certainly be a money match. Completely agree here. I'd feel differently if there was some kind of underlying feud a la Jericho/Steamboat. What's so bad about this? 2002 Booker T was going nowhere fast, he really didn't pick up steam until Shawn Michaels Superkicked him out of the nWo. WWE did it in 2003, and at least Dudleys/Warriors is somewhat of a dream match. As opposed to the one-shot deal with RVD/Kane that meant nothing. I like the idea of a second generation team, Legacy has done quite well in the WWE, but not Rhodes/Jarrett. I was surprised he included Jarrett, considering he said he left out Luger and Zybyszko due to their grudges with Vince. It worked in ECW. Cornette has always done worked shoots to some degree. The Midnights vs. Midnights feud, the WCW/SMW deal, and even some stuff in SMW like when he exposed Dixie Dyn-O-Mite as Scott Armstrong. He was smart enough to use them in moderation instead of doing tons of them on every show.

Has there been any confirmation of it? Someone posted it on the F4W board, and was waiting for Dave or Bryan to confirm it, but none has come yet. Edit: It was just posted on the F4W site.

All of Jeff's fans can rest easy, it's just a case of exaggeration. From Jeff's Twitter: "Alot of exaggerations are out there today, don't believe everything you read 4 it is not true, I am at home and fine-thanks for your concern."

I wonder how/if this will effect the WWE Jeff Hardy DVD?
-
Because it reminds fans that anything can happen at any time, so if WWE is going to be in their area, they'd better go because they could be missing out.

I actually got this in the mail today (KC sent me this, and also a couple other DVDs to review on 411), and from what I've seen so far it's classic Cornette. Tons of hilarious stories with hilarious impressions, and Jim still has his knack for going off on entertaining tangents. After seeing the Flair and Vince promos in the context of what he was trying to achieve with his booking, they make a lot more sense. Although I still dislike the line about Vince having the say on who's hand goes up and who's shoulders go down.
-
It’s not really puzzling, to me anyway. Cornette had a similar mindset when doing the little angle between SMW and WCW. Most fans believe that all promotions hate each other, so they go all the way with it. It’s not as bad as Russo’s stuff where they use wrestlers real names and vague shoot references that most fans don’t understand. Although, I will admit, that I didn’t care for his line in the Flair promo about Vince deciding who’s hand goes up and who’s shoulders stay down.

It comes out on 8/25. There are 4 trailers, only two of them posted so far.

Has anyone seen the youtube trailers for this yet? There's only two of them so far, but this already looks like a must see DVD.

Wrestling Observer Recap -- Date Unknown
MikeCampbell replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
Without any real knowledge or background, it’s probably not all that different from when Otto Wanz got a run as champion. Baba knew that winning an American World Title would boost Jumbo’s popularity and drawing power (the same way that winning the NWA Title did for Baba), so he made a deal with Verne. And, because the buck stopped at Verne, and there weren’t a whole board of members like the NWA had, Jumbo got a few months with the title instead of a few days like Baba did as NWA Champion. -
Should this prevent him from making it to Orlando for the PPV? If so, you just know someone's gonna be 'shooting' on him.

Tag team partners who couldn't stand each other
MikeCampbell replied to JMFabianoRPL's topic in Pro Wrestling
Mustapha went back to ECW for a short spell in '99 to feud with Jack, so it couldn't have been that bad. -
I've been watching varous Jumbo AWA Title matches from All Japan Classics, and have really enjoyed what I've seen thus far. I'm curious if anyone knows what Dave's take on the decision to give Jumbo the title and any of his title defenses? Did Dave think Jumbo was lazy back in '84?

Dynamite and Davey Boy toward the end. -
I'm sure they might *say* it, but saying it and doing it are two different things. They've got to know how unlikely it is that they'll get picked up by WWE, and they can't make the living working indies that they can in TNA. History has shown that workers *say* a lot, but don't always back it up. Mick was adamant that he was done after Montreal, but he came back. When the Radicalz left WCW it started out as a large group, and it was just the four at the end.

Between what I've seen of his work from watching AWA on ESPN Classic, and a pair of AWA Title matches with Jumbo, I'm curious what the consensus is of Nick Bockwinkel. Aside from the Hennig matches from '87, I've never really heard much pimping of his work. I've always been on the impression he was just another past-his-prime guy that Verne pushed in the mid 80's because he was out of touch, but after seeing a pair of fun matches with Boris Zukhov and Colonel DeBeers, I'm starting to re-think that notion.

The moveset thing is really annoying. Ricky Morton will be able to spike someone with a Tiger driver '91 and get a one count, but when he hits his finisher, the dropkick, it's over. Also, the little things that you can find in WWE games, like champions wearing belts to the ring (LOW 2 has World, U.S. and maybe Tag Team Champions), and the thing that I really found annoying, when tag teams would come out separately despite having the same music and video.

Bobby Heenan used to be the highlight on WCW Thunder. He always had to read the preview of whatever movie was on TBS afterwards, and it was usually pretty funny.

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I think the mentality is that if it something happened on RAW then it doesn't count to ECW and SD. Like when Viscera went from the World's Largest Love Machine to Big Daddy V, and Styles and Tazz on ECW acted like he was some brand new guy. -
Good idea in theory, but who do they bring in? Cornette has already said he has no desire to do so. Heyman is supposedly done with wrestling.
-
Actually, when I first started watching Josi in 2004 or so, that was the comparison that I was given when comparing the AJW to the AJPW roster in terms of roles and whatnot. Bull was Jumbo in the sense that she was the ace of the company in the beginning of the '90's and passed the torch to the new ace Aja Kong.
-
I'll try to meet you halfway. How about MMA isn't pro wrestling in the sense that it isn't worked.
-
I've heard a lot about this, but nothing specific. Could someone please post some details on his bio and his defenses of it? Not even a full c/p job (although that would be nice) but maybe just a few examples of his errors

I've got one that I'm hoping Khawk will be able to give some insight on. The theory that Greg Gagne was a terrible worker, was massively overpushed by Verne, and that he was universally hated.
