We Don't Know Wrestling SUPERTHREAD!
Grimmas replied to concrete1992's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I am loving this show. It's made my rotation. -
They said the entire Evolve/DG library will be up by January 2017. Evolve is the saddest product. I've never seen a company where the fans and wrestlers seem to resent being at each show. It certainly has produced some of the best wrestler in the world the last year or so.

There is so much footage out there. I thought a thread where people could go to get help making decisions and narrowing stuff down might be helpful. In fact, I've been debating watching the ECW's I haven't seen (mid 95-96) or the nWo beginning Nitros (mid96-97). Which should I do?
-
I don't see a problem there
-
They started with WWN Live which for 20 a month (or 12.75 a month if you buy a whole year at once) is better than buying individual EVOLVE shows. Of course you get SHINE and WWN Super Shows plus archives. I was debating on getting this, but today they added BEYOND and PWX! So I'm all in. Currently watching SHINE and the stream has been away better than EVOLVE's past ones. The first promo was buffering and the 3rd match buffered through, but everything else has been perfect. Plus I can watch on Roku, which is great. You can call me FloSteven, I'm in. I got the year deal, I do hope they add CMLL as rumoured or even ROH.

Does the Tokyo Dome have the best crowd of any building? Given that they haven't been able to sell out the venue this century and desperately hand out free tickets to random people on the street I'd find this doubtful. Will Melzer change his ratings formula? Nah, give it another 30 years. Do his (predominantly American) newsletter readers want to read that Japanese wrestling is better than US wrestling all the time? My guess would be not. I don't think it's true over the last decade either. I agree the Tokyo Dome is not good. However if you accept that, then maybe his argument works.
-
I might believe those if they were reversed... I am so out of touch with that type of fan now.
-
Those are some shitty ratings. No way Rollins-Owens was the best match of the show. I don't know how anybody could think the main event was worse than that and the trios opener. Plus it's on the same level as the tag match? Whatever, there is a reason I don't subscribe or follow Dave on twitter.

That should be good. Make the Stampede roster. -

Give me a few hours... I want to add some more free agents and add the rookies and stuff. I will post here when done. -
Complete and utter bullshit. The exact same match in two different places are the exact same match. If he is saying the Tokyo Dome has the best crowd of any building and thus it would be a bit better, then maybe?

JvK reviews pimped matches from late 90s-10s
Grimmas replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Megathread archive
Its up there in my MOTY list right now. Incredibly great tag match. -
User Actions Follow Dave Meltzer‏@davemeltzerWON Dave Meltzer Retweeted Paulie Dangerously. It's a lot tougher there because the standard is higher. A **** U.S. match would probably be ***1/4 at the Tokyo Dome.

I listened to this for the first time and it was a lot of fun! It was with the folks from CWF Mid-Atl and Freelance wrestling. -
Separate But Equal?: The ultimate goal of Feminism in wrestling
Grimmas replied to Luchaundead's topic in Pro Wrestling
There is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much talent out there. It would be damn easy to raid the indies and Japan and be half and half within a year or so, after building them up through the system. 2 matches seem to be the goal though, so it won't happen. -

We'll give USWA a day, and Stampede can pick thier roster tomorrow. -
Separate But Equal?: The ultimate goal of Feminism in wrestling
Grimmas replied to Luchaundead's topic in Pro Wrestling
Of course we all want it entertaining. I just don't think the difference between something like Kane-Wyatt and Billie Kay-Emma is big. I think a company should strive to represent reality. Having more females can only help the company not look like just for men to watch. Also, saying women aren't as good as wrestlers is silly when we saw Joshi in the 80s/90s, we saw NXT last year. -

You can take both Edge/Christian now if you want them both as a team. -

Are you saying there isn't enough talent out there to split the show in half or that it shouldn't be a goal and women should just be treated like tag teams? -
The Lapsed Fan Patreon Request Series - 2016 edition
Grimmas replied to BrianB's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I finally listened to this podcast, because I was interested. I was hoping it would be a new thing to fall in love with. I turned it off, I got about 2 hours or 90 minutes into Slamboree 98 and they had talked about two different stories back and forth with no rhyme or reason and briefly mentioned the first match, before going back to one of those two stories. They brought up the arena and attendance twice, like they were starting to go through the show, only to ramble on again. The impressions weren't funny or well timed. I had enough. I was hoping this would be good, but damn this meandering around various topics with no focus is not for me. Calling this a deep dive seems like bullshit. Being long is not a deep dive. Where the Big Boys Play is a deep dive, this is just casually talking about bullshit and joking. The worst part, that put the end of it for me, was when they talked about the best of 7 series history and completely left out Koloff-TA. What kind of bullshit deep dive is this? Unsubscribed with disappointment. -

Let's skip USWA for now, they can pick later. -
With all of these, what is your freaking criteria? It's all over the place.

Separate But Equal?: The ultimate goal of Feminism in wrestling
Grimmas replied to Luchaundead's topic in Pro Wrestling
The problem is that is not there goal. Are you saying with all the women the WWE has one of their shows couldn't be half women? 4 matches on the show, there isn't 8-12 women talented enough to carry that? Charlotte, Becky, Bayley, Sasha, Alexa, Nikki, Asuka, Billie Kay, Ember Moon, and Nia Jax. done. Plus they have way more talent. If you are joe indie Veda Scott is as good a talent as any undercard male. Plus you do this, you get more future talent. The talent is out there though and it could be done. Instead the women are treated like a special attraction.
