  1. I did not know anything about backstage politics at all back then but even I thought it was strange that this was the fifth WWF belt that Shawn did not lose in the ring (his 2nd and 3rd IC title, both tag titles with Nash plus this). Two more were coming up in the following year.
  2. WWE signing past nerve damage Ultimo Dragon was at least very surprising.
  3. If they paid for his recovery is it really scummy at all?
  4. The only thing that would really help Rey's knees is reincarnation.

  6. What is the kayfabe idea behind Axel attacking Bryan? Heyman clearly wanted to screw with Punk, where does DB fit into the picture? I mean you could make up some theory that Heyman wanted Axel to take out DB so that Punk thought he would have a chance to win before getting screwed as well, but that would be really far-fetched.

    1997 Hype

I would like to have Owen vs. Vader on the set because Owen working as a hot face underdog versus a big heavyweight is pretty unique (at least for his WWF run). And it's not as if it is a very long match (15 minutes tops, I would guess).
  8. Is DVDVR now gone for good? I think that is the first time that even the main page is not working anymore.
  9. If you want to have a NJ junior hv. match I would use a match including Ohtani as he is one of the Japanese wrestlers that is the easiest to get. Something like Ohtani vs. Liger (3/96) or maybe one of the Tajiri matches would be perfect. Bryan Danielson bending Jack Evans in ways the human body was not ment to be bent should also fit the bill quite nicely (Surival of the Fittest 2004, I think).
  10. Over here in Austria I am not sure that for a 30+ year old watching wrestling is socially more acceptable than being into scat porn.

    Current WWE

    Deep Blue? Is this 1997?
  12. The same. Same here. When friends or co-workers or so in conversations make some vague wrestling references I even pretend that I don't know what the hell they are talking about.
  13. At least for some people in the action movie genre their success highly depended on the appearance (or their reputation) that they are for real. This definitely includes people like Bruce Lee, Mr. T or Chuck Norris. I mean even people like Bruce Willis or Sylvester Stallone at their high point were so consistently doing the same roles over and over that by doing that they were giving the appearance that they are John McClane or Rocky Balboa / John Rambo.
  14. This and the last FMW match display one of the two things I hate most about Japanese announcing: announcing completely lifeless as if they are talking about a Golf tournament or so (the other thing being teenage bimbos giggling into the microphone).
  15. "Come Out And Play" was a strange choice for Raven's entrance music. They should have given him something much darker. Something like the Nine Inch Nails original of Hurt would fit much better to the Raven character.
  16. There were some points in this match that were really hard to watch, and the "cunnilingus piledriver" is not at the top of the list. I don't like the "face kisses heel valet" spot to begin with, but Dreamer groping Francine's lady parts and later thrusting his pelvis in her face are a whole different ballgame.
  17. Yakushiji looked like a proto-Toryumon wrestler here, a bit like Dragon Kid or Yoshino. With the death wish he displayed with the crazy dive it's no wonder we was not around after 2000. Everytime I watch one of this Kaientai vs. M-Pro Sekigun I hardly remember anything that Funaki does. Is he that bland or is this Lucharesu style just not his forte?
  18. Any plans for the final show(s)?
  19. Well, it's 1944, so what do you expect?
  20. Because everyone can relate to being an executive and having their office destroyed. Just when I think WWE can't get more out of touch ... It's like Austin vs. McMahon with McMahon being the face.
  21. The money for Linda's senate runs came out of the personal pockets of the McMahons not from the WWE's cash reserve, right?
  22. There are other non-Brits on the list. From the names I recognize Axel Dieter is German, Franz Van Buyten is Belgian and René Lasartesse is Swiss.
  23. I am too lazy to read through the whole discussion but from what I have read my feeling is that you are mixing up Paul Heyman the booker and Paul Heyman the promoter. I was always under the impression that Paul Heyman the ECW booker was a success while Paul Heyman the ECW promoter was a failure. As a booker he created (for what he had to work with) unproportional high interest and buzz in the wrestlers and the product was a whole while as a promoter he did not manage to make being the number 3 promotion in the US profitable.
  24. Regarding the DeBeers discussion at the end: wasn't there some South African actor doing the manager role for the Truth Commission before Callis?
