What genre does Kong have compared to most of joshi though? Her matches don't seem much more high impact compared to male counterparts. Ditto on Hokuto.

I have to say that all women competitors being exalted by #49 is pretty disappointing. I am not trying to make this into a social justice list but that does seem striking to me.

I can certainly see someone preferring Kerry vs. Jumbo to Jumbo vs. Flair. I know Dave Musgrave had Kerry vs. Jumbo #1 on the DVDVR 80's project. I personally had the 83 Flair match at #5 and Kerry/Jumbo at #11 but they were really close and a 1/4* from each other.

Then you would have been missing Austin though. Yeah, I don't see me getting to 50 out of 50 either way as looking over my list, I can't see Foley or Austin above any of the others right now. Also, I'm sure if I would have plowed through WOS more comprehensively that would have added some people that likely would have dropped some people like Murdoch possibly off my list.

48 out of 50 for my list. Only Buddy Rose (who I really probably should have ranked given the amount I have seen, it just feels like it would have been incomplete) and MIck Foley (probably would have ranked him instead of Austin in retrospect) weren't on my top 100. 39 of my top 50 made the top 50 which I am happy with.

Also, after looking at the list, I really think Andre is the worst of the lot.

I was out yesterday when Tamura dropped but in the last five years of wrestling, he has been the greatest discovery for me. The only person in the ballpark is Satanico. When I first started getting tapes 15 years ago, Volk Han had that rep and was someone that was so hyped. I got the Han comp off Tabe along with the highly pimped Takada UWFi stuff and was left really cold. It was really a style I had not become acclimated too. Even when I started plowing through the 90's, I viewed Tamura as the guy that gave the fun underdog match with Vader in 1994 and was someone I was watching have a shoot fight with Sakuraba after their legit heat years before. Gradually, it became more than that. It started with the 1997 match with Han which is just a great wizardly match of finesse and skill. Then I watched the Kohsaka match from April and was still confused. I have rewatched that match since but still am unsure whether it was a work or not. That has become one of the more enduring attributes with Tamura is that and the other discussion about the 1999 match still make me believe in the uncertainty of the con. Throughout the year, we see him take down and have entertaining skirmishes with the foreign RINGS masters, another great match with Han and he caps it off with a great passing of the torch match with Maeda. Then we get 1998-1999 where I can only see Kobashi as a candidate for a best wrestler in the world and Kobashi was more flawed in that period in certain performances like the 6/99 Misawa match. Tamura was firing on all cylinders and had two ***** matches and three matches in my top 10 for the year in 1998. That was when I knew Tamura was my favorite shoot style worker ever. As I dug dipper into the early part of his career (Thanks Elliot!) and the later U-Style stuff, he really is someone that had a good match almost every time out on tape. Granted that is a really short sample size but it is an amazing feat to be that good in match #1. Akiyama is considered a phenom and that is appropriate, but Tamura was as better right out of the gate. The U-Style stuff showed he could have legit great matches with people that don't have that resume elsewhere. I ranked Tamura #9 and honestly besides Flair, Misawa, and Kobashi, he was the only other candidate I flirted with for #1. His critiques are easy to point out in his longevity (although he does have great matches 15 years apart) and short matches to point to, but man was he an amazing athlete that also had a flair for the dramatic making him a spectacular shoot style worker.

I don't think that is even close to Tamura's best non-Han match.

Really happy with the 100+ jump for Yuki, a brilliant technician.

Premier Podcast Brand #2 - PWO'S Greatest Wrestler Ever 50-1

Eagerly await the reaction to #17 and #16 by Dylan. I also was shocked to hear Kris' #21 -
Can we get Hogan redacted from this thread?

[1999-09-14-Toryumon] Susumu Yokosuka vs Genki Horiguchi
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1999
I enjoyed this for what it was but the end result wasn't a very polished output. Genki has always been a pretty entertaining character in my eyes in the DG/Torymon sphere. Here, he showed more flash that I am accustomed to in his later years. **3/4- 4 replies

[1999-09-13-WCW-Nitro] Sting & Lex Luger vs Hulk Hogan & Bret Hart
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1999
A superstar lineup but another match that feels fairly hollow given the participants. Sting and Luger do at least make a formidable pair. DDP continues to become more ancillary as the year progresses.- 5 replies

If he asked for 10 million for the fight with Diaz, how much could WWE feasibly offer him for a big time match?
-
Really thought we would get Hogan doing the backsroke at Mania 4 with his rollout.

This was an effective six man tag to jump into the promotion with. The storyline centered around Matsumoto and Kato and they got the signature pairing. Toyota still can still have short glimpses of athleticism and then she gets out of the way. Kobayashi is a really fun underneath worker that had great spark when she was taking a beating. Overall, I look forward to the upcoming singles match between Matsumoto and Kato. ***

HASE!!!!!!!!!!!! You bastards.

Agree for sure on Gordy. Watching his 1982-83 big World Class run, I was shocked by how much I preferred people like Jimmy Garvin to what he was doing. Add to that his MVC which is spotty and him not having the break out singles stuff in AJ like Doc had and I would have him below Doc even though I didn't vote for either. Dynamite Kid is someone that I can quite grasp. He didn't make my list but I don't think he is held in the high reverence he once was. The stuff I have seen from him sprinkled throughout the 80's has been well done. Rude's 1992 is a supreme year but I just don't see too much beyond that besides an adequate to good worker that had a couple of other highlights. The contrast to Rude I guess is that Hokuto is someone I did rank high and she also has a relatively short peak period.

Becoming more shocked with each roll out that Angle hasn't dropped yet.
-
I didn't realize Tajiri has such a huge jump from the 2006 list considering most of his case was in the rear view mirror in 2006.
-
over 50% ballots for Doc and not one top 15 vote.

What other match did you like more than Cole v ACH? I'm guessing is one of them is Rush v Lethal because it's also at 4* but everything else is lower I'm some what excited for that San Antonio show as a whole care because of the scramble with the comparison I feel can easily be drawn to Progress Ch 27 that we also reviewed on this episode Copied Brad's descriptions and ratings and forgot to change Moose/Roddy to **** as well.
-
I'd take Angle and mutoh going away myself.
-
Cole vs. ACH was my third favorite match of the night: My quick hit rankings Fish/Daniels ***3/4 Roddy/Moose ***3/4 6-man scramble *** Sydal/O'Reilly ***1/2 Cole/ACH **** 8-man tag **1/2 Rush/Lethal **** MCMG/Bucks ***
