  1. They keep evolving the five second pose this time taking a shot at the Cleveland Indians. Match was nothing at all and only 2-3 minutes but it does show again how resourceful E&C are at stealing wins. The Acolytes and Hardys had some issues brewing here. 3/4*
  2. I am conflicted on the Radicalz fighting this early. On one side, they did establish them as just a couple of professional guys looking to gain a job and that was why the union was taking place. On the other side, it does feel like they were a cool unit that could be poised to have a big run and now these three are fighting and Benoit is above it all. This was pretty clunky and everyone seemed a bit off execution wise. Saturn does hit a nice flying elbow and gets the pinfall on Eddy as Chyna inadvertently kicks him in the balls. Good enough job hyping the Judgment Day match. *1/2
  3. A sad main event that no one was clamoring for. Francine is with Credible and seems really deflated and loss with Douglas gone. She essentially is here now so Joey Styles can scream cat fight. This actually started out well with Storm pissed off and both guys hitting some good looking punches. Storm even blades which is rare. After the first few minutes, things crawl to a halt with boring action including chin locks from Credible and all the usual bullshit with ECW including the catfight, Dawn Marie getting the That's Incredible, etc. Credible is eventually able to win this battle of the Impact Players. **1/4
  4. This is perhaps my favorite match of their series. I think they shyed away from some of the more exhibition and masturbatory aspects of their previous matches. Again, the timing here was really smooth as evidenced by the complicated sequence they perform that results in Lynn hitting a legdrop onto the chair after a missed Van Dam move. This also had a nice sense of violence that was worked in between the spots. Lynn had something to prove being out of action for the last few months and he carried the action. Scotty Anton ends up turning on RVD and Lynn finally gets that elusive pinfall after two cradle piledrivers. I would never call this a classic feud but for overall enjoyment I do have it above Sabu and RVD. ***1/2
  5. In the immediate aftermath of Tajiri vs Corino, Kinataro Kanemura comes out and attacks Tajiri. This results in the usual ECW segue of going from that to Dusty cleaning house, to Rhino attack Dusty to Sandman making his 10 minute entrance. The crowds are still rabid for Sandman. This match was effective in being kept short. Sandman runs through his limited moveset and Rhino takes a big spill into the table on the apron to allow an opening for him. Rhino has been put over well in this feud and he feels like a big star and a bad ass in the same way they inflated Taz up. Finish is part trashy ECW but effective as Lori Fullington comes out and ends up getting piledriven through a table by Rhino. He goes for the gore but Sandman is able to cane everyone in sight just in the nick of time. He lifts Lori up but then gets gored through the table for the pinfall. This was an effective watch. **
  6. A really fun opener to start the PPV out. The crowd was energetic and this carried a pace interspersed with violence to keep the tempo up. Some stuff like Tanaka being able to kick out of the chair shot onslaught of Balls made him look strong. I do really like Balls' punches and think he is underrated as a worker around this era. His matches rarely go too long and he is able to convey a sense of violence to everything. This made me excited for the rest of the PPV. ***
  7. One of the best matches in ECW history. May 2000 has been the month of blood but Corino eclipses them all with a sickening blade job here and some of the darkest blood I have ever seen. His hair is completely red. Tajiri was just amazing attacking him and being insanely violent. The set up for the Tarantula felt natural as did the transition to Tajiri being back body dropped into the table. All of the offense was effective and brutal. The finish was really clever with the timing done really well from the mist to the double stomp through the table. A great, great match. ****1/4
  8. Looking at that talent roster, no way this would be bad. It was entertaining as a match. It appears that Bestia had gotten a haircut since the IWRG match. Panther and Santo really go after each other throughout the match and I am looking forward to their upcoming single rematch. Zumbido and La Park brought most of the comedy into the match utilizing the referee. Santo gets his revenge later in the match and the crowd is pretty raucous at that. Parka and Shocker have some good interaction as well and that is an interesting match to ponder. Tarzan Boy does well here and has good support from the crowd which always helps. Finale has everyone flying around and a beautiful Santo tope taking out the front row of chairs. Shocker continues to receive a nice push anywhere in Mexico in 2000 by picking up the win. ***1/2
  9. I didn’t go in with high hopes given the competitors and they proceeded to deliver the type of match I thought they would. Lemons and salt are all around ringside and used along with the light tube and barbed wire boards. Zandig has Wifebeater as a second and he pulls Shadow out in the early going allowing Zandig to gain the advantage. There are a couple of hilarious Zandig execution botches mixed in this match including him running to the corner and going for a jump over Shadow when Shadow just side stepped him andhad other ideas. Wifebeater interferes again to light a table on fire inside the ring. Powerbomb on the table but it doesn’t break. The interference from Wifebeater has been way to liberal. Both guys use a staple gun next to inflict more pain. Zandig ends up taking a superplex through the tables that were set up and Shadow wins. That seems to be the end of the tournament they were running as Shadow WX is presented with a big trophy. **
  10. Unique visuals outside with the subway coming by. This starts on top of a truck and then the trucks goes into reverse to the ring with both guys on the roof. Honma takes a bump into the ring and then Zandig splashes him from the truck. Wifebeater is around with his weedeater chasing the patrons. Honma takes over and then does a big running splash from the truck. A huge table pyramid gets set up that eventually Honma gets placed on. Zandig scales the table as Wifebeater lights a couple of the tables. Zandig does a big splash through that and then does his MFing Bomb in the ring for the win. Zandig matches live and die by how stupid and unique they are and this was both at points so it was on the higher end of his spectrum. **3/4
  11. A very simplistic death match which I could appreciate. Sheik is pretty much a warm body here offering such great offensive moves as a nerve hold while on top. The selling of Honma as well as his overall charisma keeps things moving along. Finish sees him deliver a suplex through the barbed wire boards and then a flying forearm for the win. This match is a good way to compare other death matches too. If its better than this match, I would say it is a good match. **1/2
  12. Another conflicting GAEA match. A ton to love in this with some absolutely brutal spots that conveyed the violence. Some of the stage dives were excellent. The visual of the chairs that kept hanging onto Karou even after the seat got slammed across her head was also a gripping visual. The finish comes with Ozaki putting Karou into a plastic bag of sorts and delivering some sickening powerbombs on a char in the ring. Karou does a great blade job and that is really prevalent in May 2000 and has added something to each match it has been introduced into. The bad of this match revolved around the fact that it was a 28 minute brawl so there were some slow spots and the seconds for each were really involved here to the point of making me check out with almost every pin attempt they saved. This really teetered the age between great and bloated so my ranking will split the difference. ***1/2
  13. LOL at the Cody cameo. I guess they had nowhere to go with Shockmaster after his debut but this is DOA and Tony looks as annoyed as anyone here.
  14. Strong Flair promo with an issue. I always love how Flair can give credit to his opponent while still vowing revenge. This made me excited for the rematch.
  15. Good promo by Rude with him looking well established and kind of presenting himself as a new and improved version of Flair.
  16. I don't think this is the worst concept on the white board in the office but it does lead to a lot of the stereotypes that people have from wrestling fans. The big guy was my favorite of the bunch.
  17. Quick Steiner promo to hype the match vs the Bodies. Cornette gets in a line on Les and then delivers his generally good promo against the Steiners for Parade of Champions. Dr. Tom is about 0.7 on the Piper scale here which is a bit much.
  18. I liked the Down N Dirty with Robert getting the truth across and then Ricky having the back and forth with Dutch.
  19. I liked the gist of Vince's promo and it was a real Freddie Blassie vibe to it at times but some of the examples he used were odd. That Fire On the Mountain graphic behind Dave Brown and Lawler is brutal. Lawler talks about how confused he was at Vince's examples too. Lawler gets in a good dig saying he thought he was watching Gone with the Wind listening to Savage's promo. The video with the fireballs was cool.
  20. This really wasn't focused at all and was disappointing. Savage doesn't seem to decide on the tone he wants to set for the feud overall.
  21. Joe Fowler is poor. A weird tag match with IRS and Diesel teaming up. We then get to Hart vs Lawler and they do good going back and forth. I like the concept of face to face but it never seemed like it worked quite as well in execution as they had hoped.
  22. Gino is doing the update today. He announces the suspension of HBK and we even get the letter from Tunney announcing as such. We then get the rundown for the battle royal to crown the IC champion.
  23. There is something therapeutic about watching this on a Saturday morning. Tons of great stuff throughout this but the Kawada/Kobashi showdowns and the beating of Kikuchi are the top narratives. Kikuchi's expression after the slam on the floor is great as he can't fathom the amount of pain he suddenly has found himself in. Misawa took a backseat in this one a bit but him and Taue also did some tasteful stuff that never made the match dip in excitement when they were involved. A great six man. ****1/4
  24. Hello 1993, Not a bad match at all to jump back into as the WAR vs NJ feud is still one of the best I have seen in wrestling. This is on WAR's turf and the NJ contingent is strong with Chono and Hash. Chono continues to show more fire and emotion here than at most any other point in his career. Hashimoto is awesome in the role and him and Tenryu have these sequences where you are clamoring for another singles match between them two. Hara and Tenryu do a nice powerbomb, neckbreaker combo on Chono in the waning stages that gets a big nearfall. Tenryu locks on the WAR special on Chono and he taps. Awesome finish and another match that didn't overstay its welcome in this feud. ****
  25. Enjoyed what I have seen of her so far. Anticipating her match vs Ran Yu Yu coming up in May of 2000.
