  1. This thread makes me think about the crowd's chanting "You Still Got It" at Steph on Summerslam. Based on booking, they have no business cheering her. They should be booing her kicking Brie's ass. But I know I was more entertained by Stephanie's performance in that match, too. So is it a case of people just not being able to bring themselves to care about Brie in-ring? Or is that chant a way of amusing themselves at the expense of the story in front of them.
  2. I actually feel that way about nearly every match with Edge in it, versus Cena or not. D'oh!
  3. I had a run where I thought a match had to be 30-45 min to be truly great. Now that stuff bores me unless it's something truly magical, like some of those Flair in Japan Broadways and a few All Japan 90s classics. Nowadays, I think you can tell a satisfying story in 20-25 min if you work it smart. Even 15 min works if you know what you're doing. Isn't Savage/Steamboat only about 15? That one has great action in-ring as well as Steele and fun outside the ring.

Would you say they hurt Mark? Or elevated Bo? It's not like Bo even has Captain Mike's physical impressiveness, though he's fun to hate - and I like watching him. I just don't see how Henry comes out unharmed in that exchange, unless it leads to an interesting feud (which you said it seems not to have done - though with his mentioning it tonight, maybe something will come of it yet). Terrible opening segment tonight on ME, a "know your bro" game show with Uso vs Rhodes. The only funny bit was Cody - it's the first time I've seen him as Stardust, and he's wonderful. Dustin too, of course, but we knew that. Cole made jokes during and after about how lame the skit was. Decent enough matches - Kidd/Truth, Dallas/Big-E, Swagger/Rollins. I'm glad Jamie Noble still has a job. With average size down a bit, maybe they'll let him wrestle again. Has Nattie been playing the nervous Miss Elizabeth for awhile now? She looks lovely, but timid doesn't suit her.

Wait, has Henry jobbed three times to Bo Dallas, as Bo just claimed on Main Event?
  6. A couple of notes on Nov 18, 1995 Nitro: Harlem Heat jumps the Bluebloods so they can't wrestle the Males. Then Booker T cuts a promo saying the Bluebloods don't deserve to wrestle - but "we're going to give you suckers a title shot." Wait, what? What a ridiculous reason to have a title match, and I am glad Harlem Heat lost the belt because of it. Mongo: "He sat on his head! He sat on his head! Come here, Bobby, and let me try that." Since moving on to the next ep, I've already forgotten who he's talking about. Luger gets lost on a promo and goes blank. Savage says something like, "C'mon talk to me." Pillman/Flair and Orndorff/Badd are good matches. Nov 23, 1995 I just watched it, and I've already forgotten it. I like Disco vs Wright to open the show, though. I know I just whined quite a bit, but I actually am enjoying watching these nitros from the beginning. Some of it I've seen before, but the greater part I have not.

I recently watched wrestlemania, and I came out of it very excited for what was going on. And then I started reading the last 50 pages of this thread, and it's so depressing to see what's happened over the last six months. I did watch parts of Summerslam - I like AJ and thought her match with Paige was quite brutal for a deevers match. But it sounds from y'all's posts that they've wasted her since then, too. Hey, who won the NoC bet, and where are the reviews of bad matches?
  8. That faux opera "Wonderfullllllll" song? He's coming out to it on Nitro the next night, November 18. It's kind of awesome.
  9. What an embarrassing segment with Paul and a goofy psychic backstage at Fall Brawl 95, though. I enjoyed the beginning, where he's trashing his dressing room because he's frustrated about losing his self-confidence. But holy cow, the bit with the psychic is terrible. It does end pretty well, though, with Paul's kissing himself' in the mirror.
  10. Watching Fall Brawl 95 right now. Terrific opener with Pillman and Badd. Big shock there as Mero was fantastic in late 95. Also, I always forget and find myself again struck speechless by how gorgeous Kimberly was.
  11. Jarrett vs Michaels, IYH 2 (July 23, 1995) I have seen this match before, but it's been awhile. What strikes me on this viewing is just how sloppy and in a hurry Michaels is throughout almost the entire match. Most of his offense is ugly - especially that overhand punch which he uses over and over. Plus, he takes some really dangerous looking bumps that strike me as terribly unwise. No wonder the dude had back problems. He does sell Jarrett's offense well, of course. But I never felt he was an underdog, really, and he was only in peril from his own stupid MOOVEZ. Jarrett, otoh, was wicked entertaining - despite his ridiculous ring gear. He stooges and stalls at all the right moments, sells HBK's offense, and throws some great spots. In a lot of ways, this match feels like Old School vs New Style, and JJ works a much better match for me. Gotta give props to Road Dogg, too. He does exactly what a heel manager/valet/bodyguard should do. Michaels pisses me off in this match. But it's a lot of fun to watch across the board.
  12. Now I'm frightened This.
  13. I think I will check and see if ditch has anything from that stuff. And speaking of Dr Death - he's absolutely brilliant in the 6-man on Havoc 89.
  14. That's good stuff to know, thanks. I had no idea he was so much older and out of it, though truth be told I'm not his biggest fan. I was really more interested in Terry, and I didn't realize he was already gone to Japan that early.
  15. I despise the Garvin/Hayes Freebirds. (currently seen on Halloween Havoc 89) Where were Gordy and Roberts in late 1989, anyway? Okay, wiki tells me that the team broke up in 1987. But it suggests Hayes and Gordy reformed. And MVC didn't start until 1990. So what happened with Terry and Michael?
  16. SenorLARIATO, the famous poster of streaming Japan footage? Well-done.
  17. Hey, I have been coming here for more than 6 years, and I still feel like the most ignorant person in the room. And I don't mind because I am always learning.
  18. I think we should have a massive Batista-style machine guns and pyro explosion everytime we log in. When I came across this forum (and TOA) in early 2008, I had only been a wrestling fan for two years. I don't know how I ended up here, but it was the best thing that ever happened to my new fandom. I don't post much and go up and down with how much footage I watch, but over the years I always come back here when other forums have lost their lustre or when I am ready to start watching wrestling again. What I am saying is that I am kissing Will and Chas's buttocks -- and I am okay with it. And yes, I agree with those who want to keep this forum rasslin-based. There's always DVDVR for good discussion of movies, music, etc if one wants to hang there.
  19. Just watched "Warrior:The Ultimate Legend". Excuse me. I have something in my eye.
  20. Watching Nitro 01 for first time in awhile. A couple of random thoughts and questions: 1. On this viewing, it isn't the fashions or the rasslin that date this episode for me. It's the stores! A flag store? A model train store? 2. Did Liger work a while in the US in Fall 95, or did he just pop over for this special event? And random: How much English does he speak? 3. I have to think the response to Luger's surprise appearance has to be a bit more underwhelming than expected. 4. Such a treat to see angles and matches that would be stretched to two hours soon enough all covered in just an hour. 5. Jesus, Hogan's stale. Even he doesn't care. His Hollywood reinvention couldn't come soon enough. 6. Bubba Rogers has put on a lot of beer belly since appearing on SMW Fire on the Mountain from just two years before. 7. Why did Sting not go to New York in 2002? Did Vince lowball him, figuring he had no choice but to accept?
  21. Maybe Sr liked to give the boys the impression that he was broke so he didn't have pay as much? And Larry assumes it's because Backlund?
  22. Fire on the Mountain (SMW, Aug 1993) I need to rewatch the end. The undercard matches are forgettable, including a few DQs. Then Smothers v Brian Lee coal miner glove match was quite good. (And that Tammy - be still my heart.) They move fast for big dudes, and the promos and attitudes are strong. Smothers even calls Lee a f@gg0t at one point! In the end, Tammy gets spanked, causing Smothers to get the shit kicked out of him by Lee and a running-in Dirty White Boy. The next match is Wargame...er, Rage in the Cage. I need to rewatch it because I missed the end. But fast pace and lots of blood really sells the intensity.
  23. Got the book from the library and just started reading. I read and enjoyed the first one back in 2008.
  24. My first experience with you guys - in audio form. ;-) Very entertaining. And you make me want to watch the MSG show, which is always a good thing.
  25. Great show, guys. @Loss - this is the first I've heard of your 90s book. Looking forward to it!
