  1. I reviewed Memphis 12/22/1984 here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/07/cw...stlingl-tv.html Overall thoughts: Not a really great episode. Iron Mike Sharpe was the highlight here and this was a little bit weak, but not boring or outright bad. The other big highlight was Troy Graham attacking people while in a wheel chair, which was no small feat. Some shots from the show: By the way, if anyone wants to see Memphis, a few kind souls have uploaded a ton of full episodes. Check out these pages for it: http://www.youtube.com/user/cutrer/videos http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1_eL5i2qq...OuOmSq6w/videos http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCm1Agigv7k...SemcNSVA/videos
  2. Yeah, this is what I'm saying. Dave pimps it, people are watching it and actually enjoying it themselves and NOT being sheep.
  3. NJPW is probably the best company in Japan right now but it is extremely overrated. Yes, the big shows are really good but the non-big shows aren't really that special. There are four things that NJPW benefits from. - NJPW benefits from Meltzer being into them. If Meltzer didn't pimp these shows and wasn't into them, no one would be talking about them. - Live iPPV's. Running a wrestling website will teach you that anything live has about 10x more interest than anything taped, no matter what it is. I have no idea what is keeping the other Japanese promotions(besides DG) from running live iPPV's. I blame Japan not being up to change as much as anything else. So many companies are losing out. - NJPW airs more shows than any other company. They have at least 5-7 shows aired a month, including their edited show on the national TV channel in Japan. By default, the more matches that are aired mean more good matches. - They are pushing the non-Japanese. I'd say 1/3 to 1/2 of the cards are filled with gaijin now and gaijin gain interest from Japan and non-Japanese countries. NOAH doesn't let any gaijin near the main event scene, AJPW has Doering and that's really it and nobody watches Zero-1. DG does a good job too with the gaijin as does BJW. Japan seemingly forgot the gaijin though after the 90's. Minus AJPW and DG, no one used many gaijin throughout the 2000's, even though the Gaijin vs Japanese matches built Japanese wrestling. Things to rip NJ for: - They screwed up the booking of Shibata and Okada. They did take some good steps towards fixing those mistakes during the last PPV though. - Karl Anderson is really not that good. I don't care what anyone says. He is at best a midcarder and is way too goofy. He does a step kick and cutters with little else. - Prince Devitt is also not that good. I'm pretty sure he is getting the push mostly because NJPW is trying to appeal internationally with him. He's your typical junior and his non-stop dropkicks and stomps are annoying. - I never want to see a high fly flow again. I think I counted 6+ HFF's in one of Tanahashi's recent big matches.
  4. The Evolve concept isn't anything mind breaking though. A lot of people have asked for record tracking. EVOLVE hasn't been very interesting though so I don't know if I'd want credit for it.
  5. I had DB as my Wrestler of the Year for last year. He hasn't had as great of a year this year as he's been stuck doing stuff with Kane and has had few singles matches.
  6. He was an okay veteran midcarder but that's about it. He will be remembered more for being a douche than anything else.
  7. Ric Flair had MOTY caliber matches against THE MIZ and Edge, when he was almost 60, so I wish more wrestlers declined like he did with age.
  8. Love the Gigolo. He was a good worker and his character was pretty hilarious. He's vastly underrated and was the star of The Heavenly Bodies. If people start to go back and watch his stuff, he will be overrated though, especially on here. Here's a disturbing two minute video on Del Ray: Gigolo just came too soon though. Had his prime been during the Attitude Era, he would have been a star. Even now, he might be a bigger star. But, most people who started out in the mid-1980's had a rough go of things as the territories were going down and the main promotions had a lot of talent already.
  9. http://wrestlingclassics.com/.ubb/ultimate...ic;f=1;t=101446 I saw that show exactly one time, in I think 1994, when I was spending a few weeks during the summer with relatives in Rhode Island. They had one of those old antenna TVs that would pull in about 5 channels, maybe a couple more if you were persistent enough or depending on the weather/time of day, and this WWF show I'd never seen before popped up on a local UHF on a Saturday afternoon. I only caught the last 15 minutes or so which mostly consisted of local promos for upcoming house shows, and I never saw it air anywhere else again. Even then I got the sense that it was the lowest rung of local WWF tv. I assume it mostly just aired on small north east/new england stations to promote house shows. I kind of love the local nature of WCW Pro Chicago, so I'd probably dig it if I could see some of it. There's very little of Wrestling Spotlight available. Someone taped the first run parts of the show from 1990-1991, though it's not even near half-complete. There's a few episodes floating around at the end of 87 into 88 but it's all matches shown from other shows with a segment in between at times. I know someone will wonder why so little exists but just think, how many people record the WWE Experience or AM Raw each week?
  10. Would a daytime indy wrestling show on the Monday after Wrestlemania work? There should be a lot of people left over from Wrestlemania.
  11. Double post, sorry.
  12. I reviewed Wrestlemania 29 with pics and gifs here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/04/ww...29-results.html Overall thoughts: The show was good as a whole with no real bad matches. Nothing too phenomenal though. Punk/Taker was easily the match of the night though I never felt CM Punk would win. I enjoyed Brock beating the crap out of Triple H. Fandango was fine and the WHC match was okay. I'm glad to see the Shield win and I liked their match. Overall, it was a good Wrestlemania. Some shots from the show:
  13. I totally agree about how dumb its that Ryback isn't in The Shield match. I mentioned it a while ago and didn't approve of it, especially since Ryback/Henry isn't going to be good.
  14. I was at Wrestlemania XX and tons of people were chanting it. People were booing Brock and chanting stuff the whole night. A bunch of people were pissed(including myself) and reasonably so. It is silly to say "this person started it" because the whole crowd was on his case well before the match started. Maybe it's not the "official story" because Dave didn't say it, but it's the truth. I'm not likely to believe anyone who claims with 100% certainty that they started that mess that night because there were over 10,000 people chanting stuff.
  15. Someone on F4W posted a match of L'Ange Blanc: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyLAnieaUfQ There's some other stuff too with Roger Couderc: http://www.ina.fr/video/I00011179/roger-co...ssif-video.html http://www.ina.fr/video/I11066427 http://www.ina.fr/notice/voir/VDD10001702
  16. I've been in the mood to watch old Wrestlemania's and reviewed Wrestlemania 2000 in 3 parts here: Part 1 - http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/ww...000-review.html Part 2 - http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/ww...-review_31.html Part 3 - http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/ww...eview_9129.html Overall thoughts: The show was good overall as a whole but the main event and the hardcore battle royal stunk. The main event was a McMahon family masturbatory celebration and had tons of gaps in logic. The 3-way ladder match was by far the best thing on the show and the 3-way IC/European titles match was good too. Some shots from the show:
  17. Not a guy, but as I've mentioned many times, I met Chigua Nagayo and she immediately struck me as someone you don't want to mess with.
  18. Benoit was very good at showing emotion. As mentioned, he was good at showing his grit and toughness especially during selling. His WM 20 win gave me goosebumps live and was a great moment. Benoit always brought me into his matches and made them seem more realistic. Just because you didn't get into his matches, doesn't mean he was bad at getting fans into his work. I don't get into Davey Richards matches and there's always a bunch of people at ROH who are. Plants don't mean much. There couldn't have been 10 total. There were thousands of people cheering the Benoit/Angle match. There's multiple Cena Sucks chants everynight that never even make it on TV, and there's a lot more people doing it. As for Benoit vs Daniel Bryan, Daniel Bryan is probably more versatile as he can do comedy and make a goof of himself, which Benoit never would have done. Benoit was more believable, more realistic and he does have the better body of work.
  19. I'm not a Roadwarriors fan. They had good presence and charisma but their matches usually leave me with a lot to be desired.
  20. He was great and one of the all time best. He had a nice selection of matches with virtually everyone and was always reliable for something good. Off the top of my head there is his match against Brock, the Wrestlemania Threeway rematch, vs Sasuke, his good stuff with Finlay and Regal from 2005-2006, mostly everything he did with Kurt Angle whether it was teaming with him or going against him and his underrated classic cage match with JBL. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I wish he would have been given a better title run. They seriously had him opening Raw's with La Resistance.
  21. It reminds me of that one time where they could have chosen anyone to represent the company on Survivor and chose Trashley Sandbags Massaro.
  22. I'd disagree on Big Show. Show has been pretty awesome for the last few months. His first LMS match with Del Rio was a beauty and his matches with Sheamus were very good.
  23. I doubt it.
