  1. To be fair, everyone's perennial favorite, Wrestlemania 17 had 11 matches. That show had 4 matches under the 4 minute mark, counting the match from Heat. I'm not saying that this WrestleMania will be on that level, but I wouldn't discard it just by looking at the amount of matches. I reviewed Wrestlemania 17 here: Part 1 - http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/ww...ven-review.html Part 2 - http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/wr...ven-review.html (Please give the links a minute or so to load. There are tons of pictures and gif's.) This is legit one of my Top 5 shows of all time. It had two matches that I rated 5-stars and the card was awesome from top to bottom. This is definitely my favorite Wrestlemania and one that will probably never be topped. Some shots from the show:
  2. I'd like to see a scenario where Kamala is the special ref. Someone would go for the pin and he'd just yell. Then they'd tell him to ring the bell and he tries to eat the bell.
  3. There's a 80-90 disc set of WWC from the 80's to I think the early 90's. I have it but I never checked it out.
  4. I'm not a Mark Henry fan at all. I find him to be boring in-ring. He's fine with promo's and getting over his character but I can't recall one single Mark Henry match that I have ever enjoyed and that is saying something when I can think of Kane matches that I thought were okay.
  5. The book has always been a pain to buy. They sold it briefly twice and then stopped. Good luck, but it is just the people who make it that have created the troubles.
  6. I love Ron Fuller maybe more than anyone, but he was mostly bald in 1982.
  7. I suspect the markets with appropriate tennis venues have better indoor venues for wrestling nearby. For example, the tennis stadium at the Home Depot Center in LA hosts a couple boxing cards every year, but that venue only seats about 8K. 8K seems like too large a venue for indies and TNA, but not big enough for summer slam. That said, it is a pretty good place for boxing, so I don't think your idea is too far fetched. It would be hard to fit a WWE stage in there and they'd have to cut so much off that it wouldn't be worthwhile.
  8. I reviewed Lockdown with pics here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/tn...results_10.html Overall thoughts: Good show with horrible commentary. Everything was atleast okay and the tag match was very good. Loved the ending. Some shots from the show:
  9. Exactly. Once they bought off every competition, it was allright to talk about the past, with the twist of being able to rewrite history in a WWE-flavored way, depending on who's under contract at the moment of the DVD release/HoF ceremony/nostalgia show. When did the Hof became the second biggest event of the year ? When did the Streak became the biggest thing ever in wrestling ? When did WM eventually became a show based on dream matches from stars from the past or retiring ? When did "old-school Raw" began to show up ? The past became the future once there was no fighting to do in the present. Once those streams of revenu will have dried up, there's no telling what will happen. They might go searching for the next John Cena really quick. Answers: 1 - Wrestlemania 21. It happened at Wrestlemania 20, which was the real official return of it but it was a much smaller deal. 2 - Wrestlemania 17 was the first time it was acknowledged and Wrestlemania 20/21 was when it became a big deal. 3 - This one kind of depends on the year. WWE did it at 18, 24, 26 to an extent and 27 was a part in the Cena/Rock storyline. Of course, 28, 29 and probably even 30 will have the theme as well. I still believe we will get one last big Hogan match at some point. 4 - This happened first in 2010. I think it is going to be hard to wrestling to make a mega star in this day and age. Everyone just has too much going on and there's too many entertainment options already for non-wrestling fans to really get into it.
  10. Billy Joe is always a highlight. Kind of like a Tracey Smothers without the breaks that Tracey got. Though his most famous moment is getting arrested on live TV.
  11. It's in Kitami, Setagaya, close to Seijogakuen-mae station. You can also access it from Futako-Tamagawa station. http://orenooudou.com/ Bull runs a bar now in Nakano near Shinjuku. Here's a random ass youtube video showing how to find it -- I went looking for it without knowing it was closed and wasted a good hour, $10 and atleast 5 different people's time.
  12. I linked to two of them. No one is saying Baba was GREAT~! or that he didn't have matches that were dogs. The Andre stuff sucked, but how much of that was the pairing? It came in 1990 & 1991 between his surprisingly fun pairing with Rusher in the 1989 Tag League on one side and on the other side his (i) surprisingly fun 1992 pairing with Kobashi in the Tag League and (ii) surprisingly fun pairing with Hansen in the 1993 Tag League, along with assorted other tags in the 1993-95 period. Was he in with a lot of great workers? Sure. Did Baba help contribute to those matches being good? Yeah. John Baba was as big of a part in the 1994 Tag Tournament as anyone else. In fact, he was probably the biggest part. Take out Baba and those matches wouldn't have been as memorable.

I don't have any problems with "part timers". Part timers have historically drawn some of the biggest houses ever. What I like about part timers is that they come in, draw, and leave before it gets old. Territories were built around people coming in and leaving to keep things fresh and to leave room for them to draw big down the line. I wish all wrestlers were part timers.
  14. Hashimoto/Takada
  15. Baba 1994 was awesome. He was so great in the tag league.
  16. DY's gonna be lucky to have a job when he returns.
  17. Okada got signed by NJ for being tall and Japanese. He sucked until he got on steroids which just "happened" to be when he got his push. Hmm, strange. People like Ishii were more talented than him at that time, but Ishii was 5'8 and way too small for NJ to push. NJ loves their tall guys. See Archer, Lance. And their guys on steroids. See almost every NJ project over the last 20 years minus Nagata. Tanahashi, Goto, Nakamura, Tenzan, Nakanishi, Sasaki, etc. Okada is making 6 figures. Tanahashi makes like $350,000 or so and I imagine Okada makes near that.
  18. It's just the New Generation era.
  19. If Yoshi ever returns to Japan, he will take bookings all over for a heavy price and once that runs out of steam, he will find a full-time promotion. I really wish Yoshi would make tv more and get a chance at a longer match. He's rarely on and I have no idea how good he really is or isn't.
  20. I liked them in Memphis against the Moondogs.
  21. Van Dam's run as ECW champ was pretty good. He really seemed motivated and did more stuff with his kicks than usual. I've probably mentioned it here before but I once watched a Best of Rob Van Dam comp and never wanted to see a Rob Van Dam match ever again.
  22. I reviewed Elimination Chamber with pics/gifs/quotes here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/ww...13-results.html Overall thoughts: The show was flat for me. Nothing bad but nothing great either. Rock's match wasn't really memorable and I just wasn't interested in this show. Some shots from the show:
  23. DYLAN! You NEED to check out last week's WWC 2/10. SAVIO VEGA AT AGE 48 vs CARLOS COLON AT AGE 64! AND IT'S AWESOME! HOLY SHIT!!!! I just finished last week's shows and they were pretty awesome. Savio Vega is having an absolutely insane run right now and is the most underrated wrestler on the planet IN 2013. I'm being totally serious when I'm saying that he would be one of my top contenders for Wrestler of the Year at this point in time. No, he's not having epic Japanese matches with high emphasis on big moves, but he's having awesome brawls, he's selling like a champ and he's just being an awesome and believeable 1980's heel. Here are last week's shows: 02/09 WWC: http://www.sendspace.com/file/dhqlba Review is here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/ww...ibre-tv_16.html 02/10 WWC: http://www.sendspace.com/file/8nrvfi Review is here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/ww...re-tv_5999.html 2/9 has a really good tag match with one of the better hot tag comebacks I've seen in a long time. It also has THE SANDMAN. There is also a good Sons of Samoa interview with two fat and bloody Samoan's challenging for a SAMOAN DEATH MATCH, in English! It also has some highlights of the 2/10 show and has Andy Leavine from Tough Enough in the opener. 2/10 has SAVIO VEGA(age 48) vs CARLOS COLON(age 64). I swear, this was good. The crowd was super hot for this and Carlos Colon was perfect in role. He's 64 and HE SOLD LIKE IT! One shot, boom he's down. Perfect. Carlos stuck to brawls throughout his career and therefore really hasn't degraded like alot of older wrestlers do. He's still 64 but the dude didn't forget how to work. The show also has a decent Ray Gonzalez vs Savio Vega Baseball Bat on a Pole Match. Screwy finish, as with the Colon match, but this is Puerto Rico and that's how they roll. There is also a decent Sons of Samoa vs Thunder y Lightning match that is worth a look. On both shows there's also some Carlito appearances. Overall, it's been a great year wrestling wise in Puerto Rico. WWC is legit becoming my favorite show to watch, though definitely not for their production values.
  24. There's little footage of anything from the 1970's.
  25. Well Puerto Rican wrestling really didn't have too much footage until during the last few years when the big 80+ disc set got released on C-MAX. Before that there was only the WWC commercial tapes, WWC's WAPA show(I don't think many people recorded those) and the IWA-PR show that used to air during the Attitude Era. Puerto Rican wrestling's availability was probably comparable with Stampede until alot of stuff from both got released recently.
