I'd love to hear whose idea it was to have Jose Lothario walk around behind Shawn Michaels all the time. Was it an attempt to make Shawn a draw with Latino fans? Seriously, I don't understand, and I think it hurt him. I am already starting to get a little sick of him at this point. He doesn't feel stale yet, but it seems like he's a guy without longevity. Interesting, because I don't remember thinking like that at the time.

 

Anyway, I do like this segment. Jim Cornette, Davey Boy Smith, and wife Diana accuse Shawn of propositioning Diana the night before at the PPV. Cornette calls Shawn a pervert and a fornicator and when Diana says "I know you want me", Shawn tells her not to flatter herself. She slaps him in the face, and the Shawn/Davey Boy brawl is on. Cornette is AWESOME here.

 

I did like this angle a lot.

I watched this a few months ago and really loved it. Agreed that Cornette is awesome here; I think at one point he actually says Shawn fondled her most private parts, which had me rolling. Vince being in the ring pretty much gives Lawler carte blanche to rip on Michaels and basically say whatever he pleases.

Just watched this again, and it's still as awesome as I remembered. Cornette is just out of this world great. Vince's face when he first calls Shawn a pervert was tremendous.

 

I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face through that whole Cornette rant. Looks like Shawn was about to crack up at a few points as well.

Agreed on the uncoolness of Lothario constantly accompanying Michaels around. Did "babysitting" duties really have to include being on-camera after WrestleMania? Vince doesn't help either, even as Shawn cuts one of his better babyface promos. Cornette tops that with one of the scorched-earth promos of his life--with more energy than just about anything he did in 1995 in either the WWF or SMW. "YOU SIR, ARE A FORNICATOR." After Diana smacks Shawn, he declares that we all know "who wears the pants in the Smith family," and the brawl is on right as we go to commercial.

Cornette's promo is terrific, but everyone here is very good, including Diana, and Michaels giving his best babyface promo in while (although the slap was kinda deserved, in all honesty, as he didn't even defend himself but rather insulted the woman he supposedly hit on). Excellent angle, and the Bulldog is back in the main event scene, obviously as a transitionnal challenger killing time for Vader.

 

(but yeah, never got Lothario either, his most shining moment was to be beat up by Sid at MSG)

Shawn has actually been a better face than I would have thought up to this point. Playing some edge at times but not being a dick with it. Here his don't flatter yourself line was perfect given the setup. Cornette's promo is something else with Vince looking like he is ready to defend his man's honor. "I KNOW YOU WANT ME" never fails to not crack me up. Angle worked for me and I look forward to the matches.

Cornette is a riot here. Shawn also does well, actually feels like a fighting babyface with an edge. This looks like the start of another good title program coming off the win. And yeah, I was thinking that Lothario is just totally useless when he came walking out with Shawn here.

I liked Shawn's promo here as well.  Of course Corny tops it.  This is an odd way to set up Bulldog as a challenger, but it seems effective.
