Loss
Shawn does an incredibly obnoxious, whiny promo, screaming way too much, which he obviously isn't comfortable with. Wow, between Bret and Shawn, the WWF's top babyfaces were a real drag around this time. No wonder Austin got as over as he did.
El-P
Look at me, I'm at home with grandpa. No wonder people shit all over him at Survivor Series and embraced Sid.
Dooley
This was meant to give Shawn an "edge" after the reaction he got at Survivor Series. Essentially trying to do the tweener thing Diesel had a year prior. But other than his ultra-snarky commentary appearance at the next IYH PPV it all got thrown out the window by the Royal Rumble when he was back to being smiley happy Shawn, before ironically losing his smile a month later. jdw
Rumble Shawn wasn't Smiley Shawn. It was Stoned Shawn. I hope the 1997 Yearbook included the empty arena interview he did before the show as he really looked out of it. Â John
El-P
Come on John, you know Shawn had the "flu" at Royal Rumble... Revisiting this era of Shawn's career is really amazing when you think how many times this guy didn't drop a belt in the ring.
PeteF3
Lawler's really good here, at least. Michaels cuts the John Cena "fans can cheer who they want" promo then talks about how he won't beg for cheers. Ha. Vince calls him out for being defensive, and justifiably so. El-P
Essentially trying to do the tweener thing Diesel had a year prior. Â That's what is striking here. After losing the belt, the smiling babyface kinda gets passive agressive and talks about having lost his edge in the process and whatnot. Shawn sure wasn't likeable at all here, you could almost swear he would turn back heel actually if not for Jose talking about his heart condition earlier on. Exposer
Shawn is annoying here. He's yelling. The talking out of the side of his mouth. He's whining. Poor Jose. He thinks he cost Shawn the title. If Shawn had been more calm, I think this might have been a solid promo. A little bit of whining is justified. He's just loud & way too obnoxious here. soup23
Not a good look for Shawn. I liked King jumping in here with the questions. With the way Shawn is dressed and his demeanor they are going for the "I don't care if you like me or hate me" vibe but it feels wrong on Shawn and the end result is a resounding no in the like him department around this time. Superstar Sleeze
I feel like Vince was way too quick to jump down Shawn's throat. Shawn was trying to convey anger about the situation but was not exactly working and I feel like Vince should not have undercut him there. tim
Ha, Shawn really is petulant here. I liked the promo because in theory it's a great step to start turning him heel, though that's not what happens. Lawler going after Lotharia was a hoot.
