Loss Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 Quite the memorable spot. You know the one. Bret is on his way to the ring and a kid is backstage with his dad and shouts "Breeeeeeeeeettttttt!" The camerawork zooming in to Bret turning around is incredible. I was thinking this was '94 for some reason when they gave him a bigger push as champ. It even has the modernized version of his entrance music included, which he didn't start using until after WM X. But I guess it was '93. Still, great way to start the set!
goodhelmet Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Shit, it could have been 1994. I used it since it was on the RAW 1993-94 DVDV but it didn't have a date. Plus they called Bret champ. Figured it was early 1993.
benj Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 Either way a great way to open the set. You could use it too open the 94 set and I would have no complaints.
El-P Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 This is clearly 1994 when they launched the "New Generation" stuff.
shoe Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 As a kid loved it. Still love it. I'm a huge fan of paying homeage to The Mean Joe Greene/Coke commercial which is the greatest commercial of all time.
PeteF3 Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 This is definitely '94, but still an appropriate way to kick off '93. New Generation indeed.
WingedEagle Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 I also thought this was later in Bret's run but trusted our handy compilers. Either way, there is not a single wrong with seeing that little kid get the hitman's glasses in the hallway to start off the year with a bang.
soup23 Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 Mean Hitman gets stopped in his tracks by a kid screaming his name. I didn't remember this if it was 1993 or 1994 myself but it feels like a good way to start off a new year of footage watching.
...TG Posted August 15, 2015 Report Posted August 15, 2015 IIRC, this was in Wrestling With Shadows, too. Great commercial.
garretta Posted June 7, 2016 Report Posted June 7, 2016 I agree with Shoe about the Joe Greene Coke commercial being the greatest of all time, particularly since I'm a Steeler fan. This one wasn't quite as emotional as that, but I'm glad to see that they're giving Bret his due. Unfortunately, it wouldn't last long. I just started '93, but I'll be interested to check out '94 and see if "The New Generation" of the WWF is as big a joke as most people claim it is,
