Loss
Last few minutes of what looks like good action, but has a crowd that either is burned out or just isn't buying Doc and Gordy. Doc and Gordy win the tournament and titles.
Tim Evans
I'm guessing they were burned out after Vader/Sting. Bad finish and man Ole was awful as ref.
El-P
Disappointing match for a few obvious reasons. First Barry & Dustin had worked two long matches already, and were tired. Second, they had no chance in hell following Sting & Vader, so Doc (mostly) & Gordy evidently didn't try, and gave Barry & Dustin an easier match than they gave Steamboat & Nikita, who they had pushed like hell earlier on. Third, the crowd was drained after a PPV consisting of lots of long matches without much in term of pace changes, and after the Vader vs Sting match, so they got barely any heat. And yes, Ole was a rotten referre, which didn't help, Randy Anderson jumping into pinfalls would have probably made things look much better too. So, a decent match that would have been much better in a better context. In a matter of a few weeks, Doc & Gordy beat the Steiners twice, including for the WCW tag titles (while the Steiners were IGWP tag champs no less) and beat Barry & Dustin to win the NWA tag titles as well. Double titles in hands, very much an AJ visual actually. One hell of a push that never quite succeeded for the WCW audience I think, Doc & Gordy worked too much of a japanese style at this point to get over huge there. Kevin Ridge
This felt flat from what is shown. Ole's counts are pretty bad.
WingedEagle
Finish of the tag tourney with Doc & Gordy winning the NWA tag titles. Not bad but nothing great and crowd was dead, which shouldn't be a surprise having to follow Sting/Vader. Rhodes & Williams looked good. PeteF3
I wish they'd found a way to separate two heel title wins from one PPV, because this is a pretty downer ending after one gut punch already. Not much to this and Ole sucks as a referee.
BruiserBrody
Long for the sake of being long. Card was paced poorly and would have improved if the quarterfinals had been done on TV prior to the PPV so some other shorter matches could be worked in. garretta
Doc and Bamm Bamm look unstoppable here, which is of course the whole point of their being in WCW. Dustin and Barry get a little bit of offense, but nothing lasts, and Dustin does the clean job to a Doc clothesline (not even the Oklahoma Stampede?). I think the crowd would have bought Doc and Bamm Bamm if they hadn't looked so invincible. If they're supposed to be heels, let Bamm Bamm come in and hit Dustin with a chair for the win, or maybe nail him with a foreign object. The fans resented these outsiders (which they were by now) coming in and going through all their favorite tag teams like a pair of Ginsu knives through a toupee. Let someone put them in danger every once in a while, for pity's sake. Ole was so bad that at one point what JR called a two-count on Doc was really only a one-count. Between that and his weak pitty-pats on the mat, he looked pathetic. Put him outside the ring as an enforcer (sorry, Arn) and let Nick Patrick or Pee Wee Anderson do the officiating inside the ring from now on. dawho5
I think a part of the problem is MVC going for restholds right in the middle of the big finishing sequence. Then again, they seem to like their restholds.
