Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
Segments are slightly out of order, but the Austin/Adams feud has heated up in a big way. Austin brought out Jeanne Clark, Adams' ex-wife in the previous segment. Ronnie P. Gossett feels the need to rub salt on the wounds. Adams wants Austin in the ring, but Austin is already scheduled to face Eric Embry the next week. Adams calls Embry out to try to get him to give up the match. Embry and Gossett end up having words, and Gossett explains that he is a manager with a heart condition and cannot accept Embry's challenge to wrestle. Terry Garvin is out to defend Gossett's honor. It's hard to figure out exactly what everyone is going on about, but this is very much like the Vince Russo 20-minute promo with everyone coming out while everyone else is talking and everything ending with a match being made. PeteF3
Very Memphis-meets-late-'90s-Raw segment with everyone getting a chance to speak a bit on the mic. Adams demands a match with Austin after Austin came out with Chris' ex-wife Jeannie. We go from the originally scheduled matches of Chris Adams vs. Terrence Garvin and Eric Embry vs. Steve Austin to Adams vs. Austin and Embry initially challenging Jerry Lawler, then getting rebuffed by Ronnie Gossett and Terrence Garvin before getting more or less tricked into facing Garvin with one hand tied behind his back. Everyone was pretty good here playing their roles even though this probably took a few left turns too many.
soup23
Agree this got too busy especially once Garvin came back but sprinkled in were some great moments of intensity from Adams and Embry and some digs on Gossett by marc. shoe
This was fun, but man was this all over the place.
Kevin Ridge
Adams is not happy that his ex-wife is hanging out with foe Austin. He wants a match next week with Austin. However, Austin is already locked in a match with Eric Embry. Adams wants Embry to come out and talk about this. Embry will give up his match if he can get a match with Lawler instead. Garvin out to back up Gossett who is getting into it with Embry. This lines between thrown out by everyone are so corny. Embry boasts about beating Garvin with one hand behind his back. Garvin immediately calls Embry on this. So Embry ends up getting Garvin instead of Austin or Lawler.
Cox
Embry seems approximately 100 times sleazier without his beard and appears to be at least a little drunk, but even drunk Embry can bring the goods with the intense promo. Adams brings the super intensity as well. Gossett appears to be doing his best to kill the heat in this segment, but it is funny to see Marc Lowrence cutting him down. Fun segment but probably a bit longer than it needed to be.
TravJ1979
Ronnie Gossett telling Embry that he hates nothing more than a fat slob is tremendous. Embry is super annoying in this segment (and everything in 1990 so far). I wish this wasn't out of order because it lost me for a bit. Agreed it went way too long. garretta
This could have been broken up into at least two or three shorter segments throughout the show. Loved Marc getting his digs in on Gossett the way he did on Garvin earlier in the set. Maybe I missed it, but where was Gossett trying to kill the segment's heat? He isn't Bobby Heenan in his prime, certainly, but I don't think he actively drags this down. Adams insisting that Embry was one of his best friends after all we've seen them go through was rich to say the least. If Lawler's a babyface miscast as a heel in Memphis, Embry's a heel miscast as a babyface in Texas. Threatening the camera guy (again), yelling at the matchmaker, interrupting Marc.........I don't know why they didn't just bring him back as a heel. Were they afraid he'd quit? If so, why? Adams and the Memphis guys were more than capable of representing the face side well. Would have loved to hear from Percy, since everyone else had a turn. drew wardlaw
Chris Adams is really heated and good here. Marc being dismissive and mean to Ronnie Gossett was good too.
GSR
Chris Adams has come out to speak with Marc Lowrance and has John Brozell from the front office with him. Adams tells everyone that the woman with Steve Williams was his ex-wife, Jeannie. He’s not a happy camper right now and doesn’t know what Austin is doing, but there isn’t room in Texas for the two of them! He came through his wrestling school, he was his number one student, and he even wears his wrestling boots to the ring! That’s okay and he even began to accept the way the way he is, but this time he’s gone too far and he aims to do something about it. He asks Brozell to let him wrestle Austin next week and he doesn’t care what happens in the match as he guarantees that he will be carried out of there in a stretcher. Brozell says that Austin is scheduled to take on Eric Embry next week, the contracts are signed and there is nothing he can do about it. Gossett tries his best to stir the situation and Lowrance tells him on more than one occasion to take a seat as this doesn’t concern him. Adams wants Embry to come out and he’ll ask him himself if he can take his place in the match. Eric Embry and Percy Pringle join them and Adams asks him to please give him his match with Steve Austin next Friday? Embry says that the last time he asked him for something like this it was the start of their problems, but the only reason they have problems is because he is like him and has enough guts to stand up for what he believes in. Embry asks Brozell if he does give Adams the match, could he do something for him in return? Give him a match with the World Champion, Jerry Lawler. Gossett grabs the mic at this point and says Lawler wrestles guys and men in that ring, Eric Embry is out of shape! It looks like he’s never seen a gym in his life and there is nothing he hates more than big, fat slobs (check Percy’s face here!). Gossett says that he is Jerry Lawler’s manager, Eric Embry doesn’t get a match and if he was a wrestler he could beat Embry’s brains out himself! Embry challenges him to get in the ring with Lowrance saying that all five of them will help him get in there, but he says he is a manager with a heart condition and he is unable to wrestle! Terrance Garvin joins them at this point and starts sticking up for Gossett. Terrance wonders if Embry has looked at himself in the mirror recently? He’s nothing but a fat slob who’s got more chins than a Chinese phone book, and next to him Ronnie Gossett looks like Elle MacPherson! He doesn’t know a wristlock from a wristwatch (how many times has someone said this line on the Yearbook so far!) and he couldn’t beat him in the ring let alone Jerry Lawler! Embry claims that Garvin is a joke and he could beat him with one armed tied behind his back. Garvin immediately grabs the mic and says ‘did you hear that?’ He tells Embry that if he’s a man of his word, tie one arm behind his back and wrestle him Friday night. Put fatso in the ring against him! Gossett gets involved telling Brozell to sign the match, but he’s not sure if he can even write! Brozell confirms that he can write and they’ve got the matches, Chris Adam vs Steve Austin and Eric Embry vs Terrance Garvin. Embry then tells Adams that he’ll be watching in the wings and come Friday he doesn’t have to worry about anyone interfering, just concentrate on Steve Austin. There’s a lot going on here but Gossett, Garvin and Embry were all excellent (even if the latter does come appear to be a bit pissed). I agree with the points that this probably should have been split into a couple of segments; first with Adams explaining who Jeannie was and that he wants to speak with Embry, then later in the show him asking Embry to let him have the match. Probably went a couple of minutes longer than it needed to as well.
dawho5
Lowrance cutting off Gossett multiple times made this for me.
