^From an American perspective, yes. But watching as a child in other countries, I guess a lot of kids might have felt really upset and sad that people who looked like the adults in their families were denigrated and mocked. I have friends of Middle-Eastern origin who used to feel mad about how things like headscarves and other cultural artifacts were portrayed. It is something which a lot of Americans do not understand; because American pop-culture and the entertainment industry are so ubiquitous and self-sufficient, they do not really need to look at other countries and their entertainment options; ergo, American kids do not feel upset or offended at the mocking and dissing of America in other countries, which is plentiful and as inexcusable as stereotyping other cultures in wrestling.

I confess I have no real stake in this. Somehow, WWE has never focused on India and Indian gimmicks too much beyond Khali, despite India being WWE's third largest market. And I am not going to be hating on the Punjabi Playboy; although it did cause a modicum of outrage here, it is on account of cultural differences and ignorance, and I know WWE were not intentionally causing offence. I thought that gimmick was fucking entertaining, and the Bhangra entrance music was an added bonus haha.

Wasn't there some awkwardness with Harlem Heat at Hog Wild in front of a huge sea of bikers? I always thought that was particularly surprising since JCP/WCW were practically progressive in pro wrestling terms when it came to racial stuff.

Mick Foley/WWF fans going after the family owned web site of that gay man that was murdered in a hate crime. Matthew Shepard. Over the Time Man of the Year vote.

I have no idea about this. What happened?

IIRC Mick wasn't involved, it was just stupid people trying to crash the voting. There was a time where it was a thing for people online to try to get wacky things pushed to the top of the Man of the Year voting as if Time would have been bound to honor it.

That is absolutely sickening. I have no time for Foley and his "Aw shucks!" routine, but I do hope he publicly condemned it. What happened finally in the poll?

Ahhhh, they would do the same for Flair if I remember correctly. It seems like he won it one year, but Time wouldn't recognize it.

I don't want to de-rail the thread, but I would like to hear more on this. I always heard that WWE kept Khali around for the Indian market. How big was his over there? Were people digging the gimmick? When we has champion were people showing up to bars to see him defend his title? Was his making the TV rounds showing off the belt and people TV hosts in headlocks?

What about Sonjay Dutt? JJ and others act as if they are going into India then he must be around.

The Giants documentary, which is on WWE Network now, made Khali seem like a very big deal in India, showed footage of him over there, etc.

The "This is awesome" chant when 95% of the time they should be chanting "This is okay" or "This is alright". Maybe even "This is acceptable".

That's disgusting?

Chanting "this is awesome" during a Miz/Mizdow match IS just as disgusting as chanting "she's a crack whore" towards Tammy Sytch. At least one of those chants was true, and the other has Miz in so we know it a lie. :D
