Cross Face Chicken Wing Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 So we can keep the draft thread only for drafting, let's use this thread to explain the reasoning behind our picks, offer Mel Kiper-style analysis of other promotion's picks, or talk shit to each other. Quote
Cross Face Chicken Wing Posted June 9, 2015 Author Report Posted June 9, 2015 I went w/ the Road Warriors first overall because having both Hogan and LOD on my roster just before they hit their prime was too good to pass up. Some might argue that I "needed" to draft a worker that could work a program with Hogan right off the bat. That's a valid point, but you can get into trouble when you start drafting to fill perceived needs instead of taking the best wrestler(s) available. Give me a roster overflowing w/ talent and star potential. I'll find a way to fill needs. Quote

The eventually Road Warriors vs Hogan & partner match after they have dominated everybody will be huge. Quote
Flyin' Brian Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 Somebody jumped the gun. lol Saw your explaination though. The Road Warriors is definitely an interesting pick. Loads of charisma and potential, but can they live up to it? Quote
RocketCrypt Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 Torn between two choices for my first pick. Perhaps Goc will make my decision easier. Quote
Grimmas Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 From day 1 my number one pick was set in stone. I am really hoping nobody makes me have to adjust plans. Quote
goc Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 I had an idea for my top babyface and really struggled whether to take him 1st or go with The Fabs to build my tag division around. Ultimately I decided to take the tag team I wanted since Tully is such a prick that I can take a lesser babyface and make it work. Quote
goc Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 I tried to take a somewhat realistic approach and think who was a hot act that a promoter really would have jumped to get in July, 1983. The Fabs were a big draw and did end up drawing pretty well (for a notoriously weak territory) when they had their short run in Southwest in late 83/early 84. Quote

Flyin' Brian Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 I did not expect the run on tag teams. I'm surprised because of having to forfeit early picks. Of course there aren't many good established teams, so if you want a good tag division it makes sense to grab them early. Quote
goc Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 There goes my Fabs... lol. I look forward to you recreating the ill fated "New Fabs" experiment Quote
TravJ1979 Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 They were gonna be the crux of my tag division. I'm either going to downplay tags in Memphis or group a few mid-carders together. Quote

TravJ1979 Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 There goes my Fabs... lol. I look forward to you recreating the ill fated "New Fabs" experiment Only if I can book the WFIA to present an award. Quote

PM me a list of who you want and I'll see what I can do in round 3 Only if I can book the WFIA to present an award. Go for it! Quote
TravJ1979 Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 Goddammit! I'll be down to my 10th pick as my first if this keeps up. Quote
goc Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 Goddammit! I'll be down to my 10th pick as my first if this keeps up. I mean there ARE 18 other people drafting looking for a top guy. I tried to really only aim big for the 1st 3 rounds. Quote

I tried to really only aim big for the 1st 3 rounds. Of course I know that. I just figured Piper would make it until my turn. Quote
dedhemingway Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 I would have taken Piper if RC hadn't. I had a whole angle that he would have been perfect for, but that, with some adjustment, should work with Bock. Quote
goc Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 I gave some thought to taking Bock but I thought with Tully there it just would be overkill and I think Bock as a face doesn't work as well outside of AWA. He has killed it with his promos in his appearances in the 1983 Southwest I'm trying to binge watch though. Quote
Grimmas Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 I took Rick Martel. I wanted a young awesome ace that was Canadian to work in Maple Leaf Wrestling and he is, by far, the best option available for that. I even kick started the Martel-Valentine feud at the draft podium. Quote
goc Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 Poor dawho. That was the perfect Montreal babyface. Quote
dedhemingway Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 I needed someone who can hold down the territory until Race drops the belt, preferably a solid heel, allowing Race to be the returning hero. I thought about selecting Magnum TA, to build around him, but Race has alot of life left as my ace, so I felt it was a little early for that. Quote
dawho5 Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 Eh, I'll get by. I figured I wouldn't have an ideal setup for what I wanted to do until at least three years in anyway, so I'm taking it as it comes. Quote
