Gordon Solie introduces us to the new Georgia Championship Wrestling saying that this is a new era for wrestling on WTBS as they have refortified their relationship with the NWA and that the Sunday show which will be named World Championship Wrestling will now be a 2-hour show and will feature highlights from NWA shows around the world.

Solie then says he has an example of what to expect as he introduces Rick Martel making his return to GCW for the first time since 1979 and talks about how he had just flown in from Toronto after winning the Canada Cup. Martel tells Solie that he is glad to be back in Georgia and on TBS before talking about the tough road he had to win the Canadian Heavyweight Title which brought out "Nature Boy" Ric Flair who talks about how he had also just flown in from Toronto and saw Martel win the title but he said that no Canadian or any other foreigner is as good as he is and he challenged Martel to find him a partner and he would find him a partner to see who is the best later on today....Martel accepted his challenge.

Match #1

Terry Funk vs. Roberto Soto

Terry gets quite a fight from Soto before putting him away with a piledriver in 9:43. Funk then grabs referee Nick Patrick and takes his belt off so he could whip Soto while calling him yellow before Koko Ware ran out and hit him with a missile dropkick off the top rope. Funk went scurrying afterwards with Koko going over to Solie and told Gordon that he would beat Funk in the National Heavyweight Title tournament tomorrow in Gainesville and he would get his ass whipped.

Freddie Miller then reads off all the major NWA cards for the weekend before going to commercial.

We come back from the commercial with Solie talking about the new era of GCW when he is interrupted by "Gentleman" Jim Holliday who said that it is indeed a new era and that this show will not go on until we get the "Gentleman's Club" roll call. Holliday calls out Mike George, Angelo Mosca, Super Destroyer, & Buzz Sawyer respectively and says that he has amassed the greatest collection of talent in professional wrestling today. Holliday then said that the "Gentleman's Club" will take out the trash in the state of Georgia and when it comes to status in wrestling guys like Paul Orndorff & Butch Reed are like cheap clubs on Stewart Avenue while the "Gentleman's Club" is like The Cheetah. Solie sighed deeply and said that we have to go to the next match.

Match #2

Brad Armstrong vs. Jerry Bryant

Another competitive match with Brad winning via Russian Legsweep in 8:31. Brad then would go over to talk to Gordon Solie and was asked about what he thought about his chances of beating Bruiser Brody in the National Heavyweight Title tournament tomorrow in Gainesville. Brad said that he thought he had a great chance which brought out the maniacal Brody who jumped Brad from behind then rammed him headfirst into the ringpost busting him open. Brody then went over to Gordon saying no snot nosed kid was going to beat him for anything.

Match #3

Jerry Oates vs. Johnny Mantell

Ted Oates & "Hangman" Bobby Jaggers were both at ringside for the match and it was a really good match where both men were working hard. Jaggers tripped up Mantell thinking it was Jerry and Mantell would get caught in an inside cradle in 11:13. Jaggers & Ted then joined the fray after the match for a post-match brawl where the faces sent the heels running. The Oates Brothers then went over to Solie and said that they prayed to meet the Shadow Riders in the upcoming National Tag Titles Tournament.

Freddie Miller then reads off all the GCW events for the week before going to commercial.

We come back with Solie standing with Ric Flair and they show clips of Martel winning the Canada Cup the night before with special thanks to Maple Leaf Wrestling and the aftermath where Flair talks about how Martel lucked out a win over Sgt. Slaughter and that he could never beat him especially today as he has picked the vicious "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer his dear friend to be his tag partner. Flair & Buzz enter the ring as Martel shows up and tells Solie that Flair is full of it as always and he has a partner that could beat anybody in the world and is also an old friend as Tommy "Wildfire" Rich comes out.

Match #4

"Nature Boy" Ric Flair & "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer vs. Rick Martel & Tommy "Wildfire" Rich

This was a great back and forth match that went over a commercial break and comes back with Flair & Rich as the legal men in the match but everyone would soon brawl on the floor before the legal men went back in the ring where after Sawyer decks Martel with his chain as referee Scrappy McGowan was down in the ring after getting bumped by Rich, Sawyer would hit Rich with the chain as he had Flair pinned after a Thesz Press. Flair would get up and put the figure-four on Rich who was passed out and McGowan would count down his shoulders in 16:44. The heels celebrated their victory afterwards and Sawyer declared that he would win the National Heavyweight Title tournament tomorrow with no one that could stand in his way. Flair then told Martel that he would see him in Toronto in 3 weeks.

We come back from commercial where Gordon Solie talks about all of the competitors in the National Heavyweight Title tournament and mentioned that Ronnie Garvin would be coming in from International Championship Wrestling, Sgt. Slaughter from World Wrestling Council, & Greg Valentine from Maple Leaf Wrestling with videos/promos of all 3 shown talking about how they would win the tournament.

Match #5

Scott McGhee vs. Les Thornton

This was a very strong technical match where both Brits put on quite the clinic in the ring. There were nearfalls galore towards the end but the 10:00 time limit would run out...McGhee held out his hand for Thornton to shake it but Thornton would slap him in the face before walking out of the ring.

Solie then would interview Butch Reed, Stan Hansen, & Paul Orndorff about their chances in the National Title tournament and everyone thought they were the favorite which led to some tension between the 3 and they all agreed that if they faced each other they would hold nothing back.

Match #6

Stan "The Lariat" Hansen & "Hacksaw" Butch Reed vs. Mike George & "King Kong" Angelo Mosca

This was quite the battle with both teams pounding each other with hard hitting shots. Hansen's lariat though was the equalizer and he nailed George to win in 10:23. Sawyer & Super D would then run out afterwards and attacked the faces until Orndorff ran them off with a steel chair.

Freddie Miller would then talk about the National Heavyweight Title Tournament that takes place in Gainesville and The Omni tomorrow before going to commercial.

Match #7

"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff vs. "Golden Boy" Chick Donovan

Donovan tells Orndorff before the match that he wants to have a posedown with the fans deciding who would be the winner. Orndorff laughed at Donovan but relented so Donovan went first and the fans of course booed while Orndorff posed which got cheered heavily thus angering Donovan enough to attack him. Donovan kept up the attack for a few minutes before Orndorff fired up and eventually got him in a piledriver to win in 7:19.

Solie tries to close the show out when an angry Tommy Rich comes out demanding that Buzz Sawyer get his ass in the ring so they can fight. Rich jumps in the ring stomping the mat when Sawyer comes out where they would brawl all over the studio as the dressing rooms come out trying to pull them apart as Solie sends the show off the air.

The episodes of Macon Championsip Wrestling & Columbus Championship Wrestling this afternoon showed a condensed version of this show with promos spliced in for the local markets.

Gordon Solie starts off the first episode of the new World Championship Wrestling saying that this is not just a new era for GCW but for the NWA in general and he brings out promoters Paul Jones & Fred Ward and they tal about Jim Crockett Jr. becoming the newly elected NWA President and how his fresh ideas and youth will definitely be beneficial for not just the NWA but the wrestling world in general. Solie then mentioned that the promoters have a special announcement on next Saturday's episode of Georgia Championship Wrestling that will change the world of wrestling even more.

Solie then transitions over to talking about the National Heavyweight Title tournament that is taking place today and that whoever comes out on top can stake the claim of being the #1 contender to the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Solie then goes over the list of participants in the tournament before going to a highlight package of said participants set to "Sweet Dreams" by Eurythmics.

Freddie Miller then goes over a list of all of the major NWA shows for the week before going to commercial.

We come back and Solie brings out "Gentleman" Jim Holliday who once again talks about the "Gentleman's Club" and he brings up Jones & Ward coming out earlier saying that once he gets through around here Jones would be his driver and Ward would be his butler which drew a deep sigh from Solie. Holliday then demanded clips of his men in action from yesterday's show air to show everyone what is in store for the future.

Solie comes back with "Nature Boy" Ric Flair and they talk about what happened yesterday with Rick Martel and Flair said that what did you expect from a man of his caliber a former NWA World Heavyweight champion while Martel is just a champion of his country....Flair said that now that his boss Jim Crockett Jr. is NWA President the road for him to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title back is smooth and easy then says that no man in the world especially a Canadian will stop him from his destiny.

Freddie Miller then goes over the list of the GCW cards for the week.

We come back with Solie talking to Rick Martel this time and they talk about what happened the previous day in the Flair/Sawyer vs. Martel/Rich match with clips shown and then Solie gets Martel to narrate with him over the last few minutes of his victory against Sgt. Slaughter in the Canada Cup finals. Martel said that he is proud of his heritage and his country so Flair's comments about Canadians make him feel a rage like he has never felt before. Flair thinks he is a pushover because he is too nice but he will find out very soon just how angry he can get.

Solie comes back with Jake "The Snake" Roberts who says that even though he wasn't on yesterday's show he will be a force in GCW that no one can stop and it starts today in the National Heavyweight Title tournament. Jake said that he has been friendly with Greg "The Hammer" Valentine in the past but by the time this show is airing, he will have already beaten him and advanced into the quarterfinals of the tournament. Jake was then asked by Solie why he wasn't a member of the "Gentleman's Club" and Jake told him he doesn't need a manager and he definitely isn't a gentleman because he is sick and sadistic and no one is safe from him. He has no friends other than the dead presidents that fill up his wallet.

We come back from break with Solie talking to "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff & "Hacksaw" Butch Reed who both talk about being glad to be back in GCW and on TBS. Both men though declared they would win the National Title tournament and reiterated that if they faced off in the finals that they would hold nothing back. Solie then asked them about the upcoming National Tag Titles tournament and if they would be a team which prompted both men to smile and say "we'll see" before walking off.

In the last segment, Solie talks about how this show from next week onward will feature matches and interviews from around the NWA and that this show will spotlight all of the top wrestlers from around the world. Solie talks about how next week more details will come out from the partnership between the NWA and Superstation WTBS. Solie closes by telling everyone to come back next week to see who has become the new National Heavyweight champion.

Gordon Solie starts this episode of Georgia Championship Wrestling with promoters Paul Jones & Fred Ward by his side and he talks about how last week he promised a big announcement and deferred to Mr. Ward who talked about how this is a new era for the promotion and in that regard they have approved of a new member of the ownership and not only is he is just a member he is now the majority stockholder in the promotion with that being Mr. Ted Turner. Ted comes out to a big ovation from the studio crowd and he thanks everyone for being involved in this new era of GCW and he promises to make the promotion to become a success like his Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, CNN, and WTBS. Ted says his track record speaks for itself and he wants to use his money and power to make GCW the best promotion in the world.

"Gentleman" Jim Holliday then comes out and asks Ted why he hasn't returned any of his phone calls lately and Ted says maybe because he doesn't know who he is. Holliday then laughs and says come on Ted you know we play golf together every other week which Ted responded by saying "I don't play golf." Holliday now gobsmacked said that Ted needs to quit lying about their friendship with Ted saying that if you don't quit lying he would have him removed from the studio. Holliday storms off as Ted thanks Solie for the time.

Solie then segues into talking about the National Heavyweight Title tournament won by "Hacksaw" Butch Reed last Sunday at The Omni and they show clips from Reed beating "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer in the finals as well as the aftermath where Jake "The Snake" Roberts confronted Reed in the aisleway making the belt gesture around his waist.

MATCH #1

Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs. Tommy Wright

Wright comes out firing at the bell giving Jake all he could handle but Jake fights back and eventually hits the DDT in 8:31. Jake then joins Solie at ringside and says that he is going to terrorize the promotion until they put him in a match against Butch Reed on TV for the National Heavyweight Title. Jake said that he got screwed by Nick Patrick in the National Title tournament and that he would've won the title if not for that. Jake said that no one in this promotion is better than he is...no one.

Next we get Freddie Miller reading off all the major NWA cards for the weekend.

We come back from commercial with Gordon Solie announcing that there was a big tournament last Monday for the Missouri Heavyweight Title which was won by Nick Bockwinkel. Solie also brought up that the very next day Mr. Bockwinkel won the WWF Heavyweight Title at Madison Square Garden and he was pleased to announce that Mr. Bockwinkel was here today with the titles. Nick comes out and talks about how it's been a while since he has been in this area and talks about being a former Georgia Heavyweight Champion. Nick says that he feels now that he is the Missouri Heavyweight Champion as well as WWF Heavyweight Champion he is the #1 contender for the NWA World Heavyweight Title so to prove that he has come to Superstation WTBS and wants to wrestle the best meaning the newly crowned National Heavyweight Champion "Hacksaw" Butch Reed. Butch comes out and says that if Bockwinkel wants the match he can surely have it but then says that if he is so confident in his ability why don't he make it interesting and put his title on the line. Bockwinkel tells Butch that he is silly and won't fall for that trap so Reed said alright then put your money where your mouth is....he challenged him to put up $10,000 and he would put up $10,000 in a winner take all match. Bockwinkel laughed and said that he would take Reed up on that challenge as long as Reed's check wouldn't bounce like a basketball. Bockwinkel then said that he has been needing to resod his tennis court so Reed's money will come in handy before walking off.

MATCH #2

Koko Ware vs. Jerry Bryant

Koko is still selling his neck issues from Terry Funk piledriving him on the floor last Sunday and Bryant goes after the neck but Koko gets angry and fights back. Koko puts him away with a brainbuster in 9:11. Koko then joins Solie at the desk after the match and talks about how he made it to the semifinals of the National Title tournament and if it wasn't for his neck injury he didn't know what he could've done in his match against Butch Reed but he said the past is the past and now he must move on with his career. This brought out Bruiser Brody who told Koko to quit crying and whining like a woman and be a real man like he is which prompted Koko to slap him in the face and then jumped back into the ring telling Brody to come on. Brody laughed and said he is a fool if he thinks he is going to fight him now and then omniously told him that he better watch his back 24 hours a day 7 days a week because he never knows when he would be there to get his revenge.

We come back from commercial with "Gentleman" Jim Holliday back out with Solie and said that this show still hasn't officially started yet because he hasn't done his roll call so he calls out all of the Gentleman's Club one-by-one and said that Butch Reed got lucky last Sunday beating Buzz Sawyer in the National Title tournament finals and whenever that match happens again he won't be so lucky. Holliday then talks about how after they get through at TBS today they will go on tour and that Michigan, Ohio, & West Virginia better show his charges the respect they deserve because if they don't then they would make a lot of women "lonely widows."

MATCH #3

Super Destroyer vs. Rick McCord

Super D makes quick work of McCord and finishes him off with a Superplex in 4:04. Super D though keeps up the attack after the match and goes for another Superplex until Stan "The Lariat" Hansen runs him off with his bullrope.

Freddie Miller then reads off all the GCW events for the week before going to commercial.

We come back from break with Gordon Solie joined by referee Nick Patrick who has been put in charge of holding the $10,000 checks from Nick Bockwinkel & Butch Reed with Bockwinkel coming out saying that he hopes that Patrick is man enough to hold that much money in his hands.

MATCH #4

Nick Bockwinkel vs. "Hacksaw" Butch Reed

This was an amazing TV match with both men going at it back and forth. Both thought they had the other one finished at different points and it was a grueling battle. Bockwinkel would lock Reed in a sleeper hold and it looked like Reed would go out but he sprung off the ropes falling backwards with referee Scrappy McGowan counting both men's shoulders down for a double pinfall at 18:34 meaning both men would keep their money. Nick Patrick got up from his chair to enter the ring but was attacked by Jake and ate another DDT this time on the floor then grabbed Reed's check before jumping in the ring and giving Reed a DDT then leaving with the check. Bockwinkel ran out of the ring and made sure his check was still there then smiled after he picked it up and said that look who is still standing and who is laying in the ring that should tell you who the better man is.

We come back from break with Gordon talking about another big happening in the NWA last week as Jacques & Raymond Rougeau won the International Tag Titles tournament in Montreal and he said they were here today to showcase their newly won belts. The Rougeaus came out with Raymond saying it's been a long long time since he was in these studios and that he & Jacques are glad to be back which brought out Holliday and his charges Mike George & "King Kong" Angelo Mosca. Holliday then said that saw the clips of them winning the tournament in Montreal and said they were lucky and they couldn't beat anyone in his club so Jacques told Holliday to send his goons in the ring and we would find out right then and there.

MATCH #5

Jacques & Raymond Rougeau vs. Mike George & "King Kong" Angelo Mosca

This was a competitive match with both teams getting over on the other but the Rougeau's would take advantage of Mosca accidentally hitting George with a clothesline and Jacques catching him with a schoolboy to win in 12:44. Holliday is livid afterwards and challenges them to a rematch right then and there which the Rougeau's accepted. After about 30 seconds, Holliday pulled some brass knux from his briefcase and threw them to Mosca but it went over his head and into Raymond's hands where he would use them to KO Mosca then pinned him. The studio was going nuts for all of this.

Brad Armstrong comes out next and he talks to Solie about the last week and how he felt like he let everyone down in losing to Bruiser Brody in the 1st round of the National Title tournament and that he needs to figure out where he needs to go from here. Brody then comes back out and says that the promotion needs to buy some dresses and makeup for all of these whining and crying wannabe females they have for wrestlers out here. Brad then asks Brody how his face felt from Koko slapping the taste out of his mouth earlier which prompted Brody to kick Brad in the stomach and he sent him to the ring where he started pounding on him but Brad would make a comeback and he had Brody reeling until Brody was able to get to his chain and he nailed Brad with it. Brody then started using the chain to choke Brad out until Koko ran out with a steel chair and he started using it on Brody numerous times until Brody fell out of the ring. Koko then goes over to Solie and said that Brody thinks he can bully around smaller guys and that ain't happening no more jack....he challenged Brody to show up to TBS next Saturday and they would have a match with Koko saying that if he couldn't beat Brody he would put on a dress.

Next we get Solie with the Shadow Riders & Les Thornton where we see clips from their issues with the Oates Brothers and Scott McGhee from last week. The heels said that they have decided to combine forces to take out the babyfaces as they are standing in their way of winning future titles.

MATCH #6

The Shadow Riders ("Hangman" Bobby Jaggers & Johnny Mantell) & Les Thornton vs. Scott McGhee, Jerry & Ted Oates

This had some hot fast paced action but it was Mantell who would get revenge from last week as he got the pin over Jerry after a backdrop suplex stemming from a European uppercut from Thornton in the corner in 12:52.

Solie would then interview Stan "The Lariat" Hansen, "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, & Tommy "Wildfire" Rich who all vowed that would soon run the Gentleman's Club out of this area which of course brought out the entire Gentleman's Club for a standoff until the locker room came out to get in between them.

MATCH #7

Greg Gagne vs. George Weingroff

These two are having a really good scientific match until the Gentleman's Club run out and attack both men at the 5:21 mark and are beating them down until Hansen, Orndorff, & Rich run out to spawn a wild brawl which lasts until Solie tells us that time has run out and he would see us next week.

Just been catching up on your shows.

Man, Flair/Martel seems to be one of the flagship feuds of the NWA right off the bat. This is the third territory I've read in a row where the two have had a confrontation.

Loving Jim Holliday's antics on these TV shows, particularly the interaction with Turner.

Being the main showcase for the NWA by featuring talent from all over the place really gives the shows a big time feel and will ensure the product never gets stale. Also, emphasising the competitive nature of every match has not gone unnoticed.

Bockwinkel vs. Reed on TV sounds like a great treat and loved the ending with Jake who's already been established as the top heel in the promotion.

Good to see the Gentleman's Club get a little heat at the end of the last TV after Holliday was ripped by Turner earlier in the taping, and there's nothing better than a wild brawl to close out any show.

Look forward to reading more.

Hansen and Orndorff as babyfaces seems really odd, but that's probably due to a significant lack of that sort of usage of them in the real world. I would love to see Hansen as the avenging babyface start lariating the crap out of whatever heels/managers/seconds got in his way at the end of a big match. Jake has been great so far. Getting a babyface over big has a lot to do with the heel he's up against and I could see Butch Reed being ready to challenge for the NWA title after a feud with Jake. The Shadow Riders are wrestlers I'm not familiar with, but I may have to look them up.

I'm glad to see the Rougeaus got a warm welcome in Georgia and also love the Flair/Martel stuff going on. Seems to me like that should be what we talk about as far as when and where once Flair is champ again.
