Kris & David are joined by Chad Campbell (Where the Big Boys Play) to discuss the week that was October 20-26, 1990. We talk about some shakeups in the WWF both in and out of the ring, we discuss the return of Tatsumi Fujinami from a years absence, the debut of M.C. Jammer, Jerry Lawler’s hatred of beer, Jim Cornette and more legal issues, plus a special brief history of the Atlanta, Georgia Strip Club Culture!!!!!!!

I have only listened to the first half of the show so far so my apologies if you discussed it during the WCW portion later, but in reference to your discussion about the possible WWF departures of Jake Roberts and Bobby Heenan in October 1990, I feel that WCW would have been wise to sign them and use them in the Black Scorpion angle. The angle could not have gotten any worse at that point (unless they did a Black Scorpion Coal Miner's Glove match at Starrcade), but inserting Roberts and Heenan in that angle would have saved it I think, and eliminated the hokey magic tricks that occurred at the Clash in November. Heenan could have been used to solidify the storyline as it pertained to the "California, 1985" stuff. Heenan, being billed from Beverly Hills, could have said he was trying to recruit Sting in 85 and was denied, and Roberts could have easily played the dark heel. Overall, a definite improvement I think over what happened.

My head did spin a little bit at the breakdown in communication when Chad said the word "exile" and Chris and Bix immediately assumed he was talking about their show, when in fact he was referring to Memphis's wrestling's exile from the Mid-South coliseum.

Great show though, BTS is the best wrestling podcast around at the moment. As far as years go, are you restricting yourselves to only stuff after the Torch started?

Torch started in 1987 around October IFRC. However, circulation was almost non-existent. Back when I was trying to amass the entire run, the earliest physical issues I was ever able to pick up were early 1989. He went weekly in around 1990. By 1991-1992 when the switch from corner stapled, multicolored paper style to the printed booklet style happened, they were readily available.

I do like the clipping-based newsletters (TNT Times, Global Wrestling News Service, Combat Sports, Joe Shedlock's Wrestling, etc.) a lot, too. Those are fantastic resources, just in very different ways from the insider newsletters/"dirtsheets" and the results sheets.

Small production note chaps. If you want to level out the sound (in particular if the issue with Bix's mic persists), then follow these steps:

1. Export file to .wav in Audacity.

2. Download CN Levelator

3. Drag .wav file onto Levelator, it will create a file ending .wav.output

4. Open up that file again in Audacity and then export that as .mp3

5. Now do your post-production stuff, adding intro, ads, etc.

It is not 100% perfect, but it DRASTICALLY improved sound quality and audio volume levels between Chad and I from the earliest days of WTBBP.

Bix might also check audio levels on his main control panel and also on Skype itself. It is unlikely the fault of the mic, sounds like something internal. You might also try back-up recording, so that Bix is the internal input on one, and the speaker output on another, and choose the best one.

I thought I'd post this here in public because there are a lot of guys here who do podcasts, and I thought I'd share some production stuff. Over the past few years, I've tried just about everything, and have probably spent MORE time on production than on actually recording shows -- one of those little things people probably don't realise.

Oh yeah, only one though,

What sheets were around in the early 80s? Did Matwatch go back that far? Or was it just the collections of clippings and results like Dave Justice etc put out?

I probably ought to know this, but were there any British dirtsheets?

There was also Jay Steele and Bob Closson's excellent Mat Results newsletter, which was a mixture of news, results and clippings. Probably my favourite newsletter outside of the Observer and goes back to I think 1983.

I use Levelator. I've never not used Levelator. Any audio issues in the last few weeks have been me not speaking directly into the new mic properly because I'm not used to it having a completely different directionality from my old one. I know it happened at the beginning this week.

Blue Yeti = speak into the front of the mic.

AudioTechnica ATR2100-USB = Speak into the end/tip of the mic.

It's just a matter of erasing the old habit. And as we can see, changing patterns of reflexive patterns of behavior like that or an other kind of annoying bad habit can be difficult, Parv.

Bix, no worries, still having problems with my excessively noisy new mouse, which seems to register every single click. Drives me nuts, so I can sympathise.

I've really been enjoying this series btw.

Enjoyed Chad coming in for this show, and I think this underlined once again how 1990 really was the last year of the 80s / first year of the 90s in so many ways in so many different promotions. So much transition going on.

Also, have to mention Kris made me do a loud LOL right at the end with his "and you know all about that" line referring to Bix keeping his mouth on the tip. Hilarious moment.
