sek69
Danny Davis' (the heel ref, not the Nightmare/OVW guy) long johns with ref striped tights has got to be up there. It's not like he was wearing them to hide a bad body since he was the masked jobber on every WWF houseshow of the time.
Fando
Mankind wasn't exactly meant to be a stylish character... He doesn't have to dress up like the Rock or anything but surely they could avoid having him look like actual turd...the color just did not flatter his figure. That's the point. Mankind is a digusting freak that lived in the boiler room and tore out his hair. He was the company's Quasimodo. He wasn't supposed to appear flattering in the slightest. And it got over. NotJayTabb
The original Mankind look was great. No business being mentioned in this thread for my money. Billy Gunn had some terrible outfits. I hated Saturn's Marilyn Manson-inspired look too. Billy Gunn's TNA outfit that looked like Torrie Wilson's cast-off's was the worst. On the subject of TNA, Chris Sabin's post-injury look with the big baggy shorts made him look like a child playing dress-up in his older brother's clothes. Looked especially bad when he was their world champion.
funkdoc
have we really not mentioned mabel yet? that may be one of the most significant cases - a look that helped kill a main-event push.

Then another post has mentions of all those characters in the 90s that dressed up like their occupation would demand like Duke the Dumpster. That stuff made sense for their characters but its okay for people to rip on them for it but Mankind gets a pass because he's supposed to be a freak? Pick a lane and stick to it, people. goc
We need to start tweeting a bunch of pics of Titanes gimmicks to someone like Sandow and try and get him to pitch one to Vince to get back on TV.

Not like Mabel in the Big Daddy V outfit (black tights, no shirt, and suspenders) fares much better in 1995. Mabel and King Kong Bundy are in a realm of guys that probably needed a cape in their entrance attire.

There are lots of people posting in this thread, and we all probably have different opinions about things. It isn't hypocritical if JRH criticises IRS's gear, and me or Fando defend Mankind's gear. It's just different people saying different things. Anyway, my response to this would be that it's really a stretch to think that if a garbage man decided to become a wrestler on the side, he'd wear his garbage man uniform to compete in, presumably to remind everyone of what his day job is. On the other hand, a mentally disturbed person not giving a shit what they look like when wrestling seems pretty likely.
Slasher
Nah. Not buying it. Of course they are gonna remind people of their jobs. That is the character they have elected to wrestle as. Duke is Duke the Dumpster Droese. He isn't Duke the Ripper who just happens to be a garbageman in his day job. I do understand that it is different people chipping in with opinions and my opinion is Mankind looks awful, period.
funkdoc
the problem with mabel's look in 1995 was that barney the dinosaur was huge at that time, so that would be the image associated with any fat person in purple the viscera look would've been good then imo
C.S.
Are people really trying to apply logic to the "wrestlers with second jobs" look and formula of the '90s? Some things can't be explained away. With that said, IRS and Duke the Dumpster Drose looked perfectly acceptable for what they were trying to portray. BimBimBigelow
Unless I missed it, I think Naked Mideon has somehow been glossed over up to this point... And for the record, I think Mandkind and the likes of IRS and The Big Bossman made their respective ring attires work.

Never said they didn't make sense. IRS dressed logically like an accountant and logically it was very boring. The Mankind gear doesn't need a pass. It got over. That's the difference. You saying you would have preferred something flattering is fine. But I don't see why it would've helped.

The Chief
Late eighties Jimmy Garvin. Shiny pants that were both too loose and too tight at the same time. Literally looked like they were bought for 24.99 at a Halloween store. Gut hanging over the waist, junk hanging out, plumbers crack... Ick.
