What main event could be worthy of this huge show? How about the six most hardcore wrestlers in the world in one epic Street Fight. On one team will be The Hardcore Icon Terry Funk teaming with Super Leather and Ian Rotten and they will face a team manager by James Mitchell. This monstrous and mystery team consists of Jason the Terrible and The Headhunters! This will be a bloody and violent affair, so leave your children at home. Also on the show, The Brooklyn Brawler wants to address the crowd and make an open challenge. The State Patrol claim they have HUGE news that will be it's own revolution in wrestling. Also, two former WWF stars in "Hakushi" Jinsei Shinzaki and "Rad Radford" Louie Spicolli will square off, one on one! Also signed to appear is the legendary Sabu, Pat Tanaka, and Maxx Payne. Be prepared to jump aboard the Revolution of wrestling from day one on August 11th, 1995 @ 8:00 PM at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California. (note: "in real life" this was the date and place that Sasuke won the UWF Super Welterweight title). There will be a one-night 4-wrestler tournament, with the winner being declared champion. 1) Joshi Puroresu representative vs. Shiro Koshinaka - Tournament Alternate match 2) El Samurai vs. Super Delfin - Tournament round 1 match 3) The Great Sasuke vs. X - Tournament round 1 match 4) TAKA Michinoku, Dick Togo, Jado and Gedo vs. Gran Naniwa, Sho Funaki, Shiryu, and Yakushiji *break* 5) Kuniyaki Kobayashi, Norman Smiley, and Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. Lance Storm, Masaaki Mochizuki, and X 6) Tournament Finals Match, winner to be declared the first-ever Tohoku Region Welterweight Champion 2) On October 10, 1995, at the Appi Ski Resort Convention Hall Michinoku Pro Wrestling will celebrate their Second Anniversary with a major show, including the first defense of the Tohuku Region Welterweight Championship. 3) In November, the Futaritabi Tag League will be replaced by the Tohoku Region Trios Tournament. Over a three-week period, 8 teams of three will face off with the goal of crowning the Tohuku Region Trios Champions. elliott Posted August 21, 2016 Report Share Posted August 21, 2016 edit nevermind for now double edit: ok now Before I dive in, I wanted to say I plan on covering my UWFi via Dave Meltzer style coverage of press conferences, card announcements/previews/reviews etc. So expect lots of grammar errors and run on sentences like Dave. Anyway, moving on to Dave's coverage of UWFi's first press release.... "UWFi, arguably the hottest promotion in the world after this month’s unprecedented worldwide talent draft, sent out a press release announcing 2 shows to be held in September. The first will take place Saturday September 9th at Tokyo’s Kourakuen Hall and will be a one night tournament to crown a new UWFi World Light Heavyweight Champion. According to the press release the light heavyweight title will be for wrestlers under 215lbs and as of now 7 participants have been named: Kazushi Sakuraba, Naoki Sano, Masahito Kakihara, Yuki Ishikawa, Takeshi Ono, Alexander Otsuka and Carl Greco. Even though this is another one night junior heavyweight tournament involving a lot of potential match-ups that have never happened before, this should be a very different junior heavyweight tournament from last year’s Super J-Cup that won this Newsletter’s “Best Major Show” award. There won’t be any of the spectacular high flying moves showed off by Great Sasuke and others in this tournament. But everyone entered so far is a good young worker so the matches should be fun if not spectacular. One big name missing from the tournament is Kiyoshi Tamura who usually fights at around 185 pounds, which would make him eligible for the division. Instead, Tamura will be headlining the 2nd show announced in the UWFi Press Release. The 2nd show will take place at the legendary Sumo Hall in Tokyo and will be headlined by the aforementioned Kiyoshi Tamura against former Sumo Legend Koji Kitao. While no other matches were officially announced, the press release said there will be singles matches involving Vader, Volk Han and Shinya Hashimoto. UWFi will hold a major press conference later this week to announce the full cards and officially address the Japanese wrestling media for the first time since the talent draft. Even though UWFi is most talked about promotion in the wrestling industry, it seems like a bit of a risk to run the first show with Tamura vs Kitao as the headliner. Kitao's name doesn't mean as much as it did 3 years ago and Tamura isn't the draw Takada was when he had his big match with Kitao. Although the size difference makes the match-up intriguing, this isn't the sexiest main event UWFi could put on with their first show. They are clearly planning on holding off on their big matches as Takada vs Hashimoto or Takada vs Maeda could sell out the Tokyo Dome or a big baseball stadium with little else on the card. But Akira Maeda wasn't mentioned at all in the press release and sources are saying that UWFi management has been unable to get in touch with him so far. It was a wrestling show so wrapped up in gimmicks that it came off like a circus. It is amazing that the historic weekly event at the Mid South Coliseum was even able to draw the 600-800 fans a week that it was getting. This is especially true since people could stay at home a see pay per view quality instead of paying for trash. I see my job as head booker in this 1995 game to save USWA wrestling from a quick and painful death How can that be done? Well step one is to getaway from Mondays. The Mid-Souht Coliseum show will now be held on Fridays. Step 2: stop competing with the cartoons. Very few adults are waking up to watch Saturday Morning Wrestling. This needs to go to Thursday or Saturday evening. More to follow when the TV stations give feedback. This may also lead to some shared talent with the big boys. Step 3: Give quality matches on TV. 5 squash matches with a run in or two just doesn't, cut it. USWA knows it is only a stopping ground for major talent. Use it when you got it. Step 4: Run just 3 or 4 major angles and bring back goog ol Wrastlin. Kings vs first family. The Kings are Jerry Lawler, Jeff Jarrett and Bill Dundee. These 3 will face Jimmy Hart's First family of To my Rich, Barry Windham and The Warlord Use the racial tension of Memphis to its fullest The Nation of Domination (Ron Simmons and Harlem Heat) vs some real good ol boys including the tag team known as Southern Comfort (Tracy Smothers & Road Dog Jesse James), Terry Gordy and the Armstrong brothers. The Brat Pack (Doug Gilbert and Chris Jerricho) vs Brian Christpher. Not sure how long I can go before the Brat Pack breaks kayfabe and outs Christpher as Lawler's son and rumors of Jerry Lawler and his escapades in Memphis. Sex sells- DDP is here and so is Kimberly...... Also Miss Texas will be "hanging out" all around the promotion. Any thoughts? Can USWA be saved. Am I going about this wrong.
