Johnny Sorrow
Hey, the Jack Brisco obit in the Observer is pretty fucking great, despite the typical "Dave being all over the place" stuff.

Loss
If this is how they're going to build the angle, this is going to be really awesome, and it's actually a great way to get Danielson over. Bix
As far as these things go, I'm not sure if Freddie Prinze Jr. explaining the ring psychology of Japanese Andre The Giant matches to Jimmy Kimmel a few minutes ago was as cool as Debbie Harry explaining to David Letterman why Georgia Championship Wrestling was better than the WWF (while promoting Videodrome, no less!), but it was awesome. I have to see both of these. I need to rip the Debbie Harry clip (where she explains that she and Chris Stein watch wrestling from Georgia and NY; Dave jokingly asks which is better and she picks Georgia because it's "funkier") but here's Prinze on Kimmel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJciDzl0_7I

Miz annoys him until he inevitably destroys him. http://fans.wwe.com/themiz/blog/?pref_tab=blog I am glad Danielson is in the WWF now.But...Daniel Bryan? That's all the writers could imagine? What would have been the problem with what he was using, or the American Dragon? Has Meltzer specified? I do wonder if Danielson did not want to give up his trademarks... Anyway, I think this is going to be awesome.
Loss
I know they've been opposed to anyone coming in using their real names the past few years, because if they leave, they don't want them using the name they used in WWE on the indy circuit. What a bunch of insecure assholes. They've got a monopoly, but that's still not enough, people who bust their ass for your company aren't allowed to keep their most famous name to continue to make a livong once you've got them used up. smkelly
The thing I don't understand is that wrestlers like RVD, Sabu, Sandman, Dreamer, Snow, Raven, Dudley Boys, and countless others who have come into the WWF have used their monikers that weren't created by the WWF. There never seemed to be a problem with them using their names, so why can't a strictly small indie wrestler retain his original moniker.

There never seemed to be a problem with them using their names, so why can't a strictly small indie wrestler retain his original moniker. I think it's a few things (and I agree that the practice is silly): (1) All the wrestlers you listed were using gimmick names instead of their real names (which probably explains CM Punk) (2) Despite ECW also being niche wrestling, they were known enough nationally that they were getting crowd chants by name upon their debuts (3) This was mentioned in the WON within the last year or so, so I think it's something that's just taken effect recently (4) Wrestling is filled with double standards WWE has always been sort of opposed to letting guys use the name they used to get over in other places. However, I think this is a case not of not wanting to use gimmick names from the indies (although there are many times they don't), but more that they don't want wrestlers using their real names, because they can't copyright someone's real name. Bix
And this goes back to the 80's look at the "Widowmaker" & "Red Rooster" as examples.Though back then, they'd start with the real name/nickname combo and segue to just the nickname. Same goes for Mr. Perfect & Texas Tornado.
sek69
It's really more of WWE wanting control of the merchandising rather than any mustache-twisting chicanery to keep naive pro wres dudes from using their indy names. I'm not sure of the logistics but I believe they get a bigger cut of the merch profits if it's a name they created as opposed to one they didn't and/or someone's real name. I also think all the ECW guys were allowed to keep their gimmicks because WWE ended up owning them in the bankruptcy deal. Of course some folks will see evil intentions in literally everything Vince/WWE does so what can you do.

Bix
The Taker-Michaels "Running Up That Hill" video on Raw tonight was possibly the best video package in WWFE history. Consider the ground that covers.
smkelly
Michael Cole has noticeably gotten worse at announcing - it is like he is purposely saying all of his trademarks, as though he knows its drinking game, a la Robin on "How I met your mother". Oh, and Lawler saying "he's beating the living life out of him" was a funny line.
Tawren
The Taker-Michaels "Running Up That Hill" video on Raw tonight was possibly the best video package in WWFE history. Consider the ground that covers. It was very good. I'm looking forward to seeing the "finished" version where they'll include the confrontations and stuff at the end and then I can see it contending with "My Way", "Highway to Hell", and "Mr. McMahon's Utopia" for all-time best. It's too bad they won't acknowledge the 1997 feud because there is some good footage they could include from there like Michaels getting tossed off the HIAC or Taker's first big dive. I think so far, this is the best looking WrestleMania in a while. If they can keep this build-up pace for four weeks I'll be very happy.

Oh, and Lawler saying "he's beating the living life out of him" was a funny line. He was even worse on NXT. Although I'm kinda thinking he was being bad on purpose for that show. Like he's going to be its heel announcer or something. Either way, his new schtick of burying everyone is getting old fast.
smkelly
Agreed. His transition from "Miz is the meanest man ever", to "Miz needs to teach Bryan respect", as the Miz is pummeling Danielson is really lopsided. It reminds me of those WCW/TNA face to heel turns. I bet Cole is back to face by Monday.
