EDIT: On an unrelated note, I found this mildly amusing:

. My apologies if everyone has already seen it.

Entertaining, but also strange. I have a copy of Big Dave's book and not once do I believe he said he didn't learn anything from OVW. In fact, he lists a few things he did learn, and was overall appreciative of his time in OVW, and also appreciative of Cornette himself. Whole thing feels weird.

That's what he said when writing his book, but it was apparently the case that he didn't speak highly of OVW in the past, and these words were used to justify closing it down.

On the F4W board, Meltzer wrote:

He buried OVW hard to Laurinaitis. When Laurinaitis threatened (at the behest of Stephanie at the behest of HHH who started the "Cornette & Davis never drew money, how can they teach people how to draw money" mindset) to pull the plug on OVW (long before they had anything else viable in place, that's how bad they wanted it out and why it took so long because they had to set something else up) Laurinaitis made it clear how Batista said he learned nothing there. This talk had to have dated back to 2004 because it was before Lesnar was persona non grata and those were the names he'd always quote. The OVW defenders (and there weren't many) would always say you can't name one guy but Batista and Lesnar who would say that, and he never could.

what he says now on a DVD is very different because he was instrumental in being the one guy whose words were used as evidence to pull the plug.

Why do I get the feeling that this was, at least in some small part, the impetus behind the Cornette/MX book where Cornette goes into detail about how much money he drew?

From kjh's cageside seats post:

When the news broke that Ric Flair, renown for his alcoholism, womanising and public displays of nudity, had pissed off his wife so much that she had assaulted him I knew that the wrestling media would cover for his indiscretions with little, if any, criticism for his behaviour. It’s long past the time they needed to tell him to grow up. Why would they start now?

That's a pretty fucked up thing to say. He deserved domestic abuse because he drinks or isn't monogamous or any other "indiscretion"? Once again I find the "I'm smarter than Dave~" crew to be going a bit overboard.

I've been away for a few days so I haven't had chance to respond. I think it's a fair criticism that the post relied a bit too much on hyperbole to make a point. Due to work commitments, I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to carefully choose my words, though I still might have fallen into the same trap. My point wasn't that Flair deserved to be assaulted, which I thought would be a given. My point was that his wife was angry for a reason and that anger, given Flair's track record, probably was justified, even though she shouldn't, under any circumstances, have assaulted him. Dave refused to report in print the alleged reason for her anger he gave on his radio show. I think we also know that the story Dave relayed on his radio show is probably the best spin Flair could put on what caused the incident. So, yeah what Bix said. :)

I really don't think an apology is required, Bix, as Dave didn't personally attack me in his response to my original blunt article and my final response to him on his message board was blatantly sarcastic. I know that in wrestling when you take a shot, expect a receipt in return.

TMZ posts 911 call where Beems' daughter says that both her mother and Flair were drunk.

I think that Keith deserves an apology, but I doubt that he'll get one since Dave is harping on the daughter saying that they weren't slurring their words or stumbling. It's not like Flair has had a blatant drinking problem for decades or anything...

Wait, am I missing something? Is there audio available from the fight? How does Dave know they weren't slurring their words?

Jerry Lawler's comment on Vince going "over the edge" with Bret Hart is erm an interesting one last night.

I thought that's what he said.

Damn, that was callous of Lawler, although I presume it was screamed in his headset...

I'm reading Hart's autobiography, and I can't help but think he is just a huge hypocrite, a liar, and a coward.

Whereas it made me appreciate him more. Sure, he's done shitty things, but so has everyone else in the business.

Although the whole "my fans", etc. was a bit grating. I disagree with many things Flair has said about Bret, but the "could be the president of his own fan club" bit was right on.

Regardless, Bret is still probably my #2 all-time favorite.

The new Observer has a transcript of the audio from the call. The daughter said that they weren't slurring their words, although she later says that she thinks they're drunk.

Dave also said that Flair was indeed offered a ride home by a bar employee and that it's a regular occurrence. Gee, I wonder why?

Considering he has come back to the WWF is a major reason why I feel the way I do about him.

Vince & Shawn fucked him without mercy, which he swore he'd never forgive or come back...but low and behold, here he is.

The Owen thing too. He thought Vince was responsible, so why would he ever come back?

I think he is a sell out like all of the other war horses still limping around.

I've long since stopped caring about people "selling out". If they're doing what they feel they need to do to secure their future financially, I am not going to hold it against them. It's their prerogative. If they can do it with a clear conscience, however they rationalize it, it's none of my business. But I do understand your point.

After reading kjh's latest Cagesideseat post Im thinking of joining the "crew" :P

I don't get it.

Meltzer's story of Ric hitting his on the nightstand is a bit hmmm isnt it?

It's plausible, and that version of the story still has Jackie punching and kicking him, but it still reads like an excuse.
