Yeah, the Ken Anderson thing.

See also Dave posting the email from a certain indy promoter commenting on RFgate by talking about being a gay man not out to his family and liking young looking guys (if he's still not out to them, I figure I shouldn't name him here on a Google-able forum), plus the same Missy Hyatt email about the HOF being posted once as a one of her columns and later posted again as an anonymous deal from a famous wrestling personality.

Yeah, the Ken Anderson thing.

It was a pretty harsh, passionate burial for Lance. The most shocking thing about it is that it exposes that he writes like Alverez in private correspondences:

I think Ken Anderson has been so GOD AWFUL on promos it's a channel changer for me.

His promo last week with angle actually made me turn the show off after Angle's awesome promo, and this week he talked forever in his first promo and I could not have possibly cared less.

He is doing the flippant Too Cool for School goof ball character, which in my opinion is the worst possible character. He makes light of absolutely everything as if it doesn't matter than ultimately it ends up not mattering.

Last week after Kurt was so hot at him for spitting on the USA and Dead Soldiers, Anderson came out with this goofy who cares flippant personality. HOW does that draw money? He treated it like a joke and thus it became one.

This week his promo with Christy went on forever and I ended up not having a clue what he was talking about, but when you go back and look he actually talked about laying out Kurt, spitting on America and going after a title tonight (TWO MAJOR ISSUES) yet finished off flippantly talking about fighting gorillas to the point we forgot his issue with Kurt and his title match with Rob. Almost a textbook example of a BAD promo.

Then they bury the Kurt program even deeper by having Anderson cut another fucking promo while Kurt stands behind him for over a minute with a chair. If Kurt gave a flying fuck about Anderson laying him out or spitting on America why didn't he hit him right away rather than waiting for a minute for the comedy pop of watching Kurt stand behind him while Anderson was unaware.

This show was horrible and Anderson's character and promo work are ATROCIOUS. Yes he talks well but he buries the entire program with the way in which his talks and carries himself. He is my least favourite character on the show and that covers a lot of ground because this entire show SUCKS.

Also I can't believe no one pointed out that Anderson was KILLED by one chair shot (yes Bryan pointed this out) BUT Abyss was hit with 3 or 4 and was still on his feet later in the show. I could book a better show with a WEEGEE board.

Having seen parts of Impact last week, I wonder if they raised Angle up from his entrance platform too early. The reason I say this is TNA is terrible with timing stuff, as evidenced by its horrible production cuts with them not cutting to an interview soon enough, going to commercial too early and coming back from commercial too late, etc.

And yeah, Anderson's promos are terrible. They go WAY too long.

I think there's a chance it'll come out eventually. Crude as it may sound but he'd probably gathered together anything he'd need to gather together to do it before Doc passed. I really liked the Brisco one, mind, and I'm much more aware of Doc's career than I was of Jack's so - and Doc's one of my favourites - I'd've taken that one as a primary focus, I mean I'm in awe of how much writing Dave gets out in a week as it is, whatever you think of the guy. Doc really deserves a better biography than his own book though, that was ugly.

On a certain level, I want to read something into the fact that Lance criticized Anderson's promos and character work but not his in-ring work. There's too many possible choices, and I'm sure none of them have much basis in reality, but I still found the potential for amusement there.

Even worse is the preview for second issue that looks like it will include the Ultimate Fighter cast rundown. I mean is there one person that would honestly rather have that in the Observer than the Dr. Death obit. How many times do we need to hear: Scott Rax: He is 2-1 and has great submissions, etc.

News flash: Dave Meltzer gets paid to write about MMA these days, therefore it should not be a shock when things like this happen.

I don't like it, and I'd wager the majority of his subscriber base doesn't either, but that's the way it is. Perhaps it should be a lesson of sorts, one for 2010.

I don't think the Ernie Ladd obit ever came out either. If it's an problem of space and not time, he should just put them in Tributes III, or something. Although there's been enough deaths since 2004 to make the next volume look like the Oxford Unabridged Dictionary.

IIRC, his "Rise and Fall of WCW" history pieces after the WWE produced DVD petered out at the end of 1998 too. No, Konnan HOF bio yet either. I have no problem with Meltzer covering MMA. However, I do think Bryan and Dave waste a lot of time covering everything twice. Do we really need two similar reviews of the Dragon Gate PPV, for example? I might actually read the Figure Four if there was less overlap with the Observer.

I actually think that's probably not a bad idea. They certainly could overlap on "big" things like major news, PPV's, etc. But the run of the mill stuff like covering Raw, SmackDown, TNA on Spike, etc. could be split between the two and frankly offloaded to Bryan. Give Dave the Ultimate Fighter of there's a tv show he wants to cover. If there's something one wants to say about a TV show that the other is recapping, they both still have their "WWF" and "UFC" and "TNA" sections to toss out a comment:

"Shawn vs Kurt on Raw was **** and one of the best TV matches of the year."

Not saying that Dave shouldn't watch those shows. But simply free himself from the grind of having to recap them in full.

When you sub to the site, you get both. And perhaps there's reasons to read both. But I skim the WON too often as it is anyway, and don't crack the Fig-4 open. They probably could work together better than they do.
