AEW TV 3/29 - 4/1

The Thread Killer

Recommended Posts

I'm very sorry for Adam Cole fans but I gotta say, I'm really happy he's next in line for Jericho to spend the next 2-4 months with. Automatic skip and don't got to worry about a wrestler I'm fond of wasting time with the JAS :D

So do we get a 4 vs 4 Elite vs BCC at DoN? Anarchy in the Arena II? (for the love of Terry Funk, someone make Danielson wear a safety helmet)  or can we get Golden Elite vs BCC + Punk so the internet explodes in a blaze of fuckery lol.

It seems like they want us to think that the BCC took out the Bucks, but they've never taken credit for it. You would think in storyline they'd be out there like "yeah we did that shit", but they haven't which makes me think some other shoe is going to drop.

Heel Danielson is the best. I hope he kicks every Elite member's fucking head in.

I liked the Perry-MJF exchange. I think Perry has improved a hundredfold on the mic. Working with Christian has definitely helped him improve as a wrestler, even if Christian was out for several months. Take notes, Chris Jericho!

Mox sort of continued the angle in kayfabe on Renee's podcast, where while he did not admit they did it, he didn't deny it either.

Danielson v. Omega 2 should be an absolute blast.

Dropping this here as I don't believe there's a dedicated ROH thread, but Athena has been absolutely crushing it as a heel.  Promos, presence, work, just phenomenal performances in every setting.  Her matches with Willow Nightingale and Emi Sakura were outstanding and the squashes have been incredibly effective as well.  One of the best heels going today.

Very disappointed that both Mark Briscoe and Eddie Kingston lost on the ROH supercard. TK does not seem to realise that ultimately, fans want their faves to win, else ultimately they stop rooting for them. He books heels to win way too often. It's a problem that modern WWE has had as well since the start of this century - way too many long heel title runs. I do not believe in the bullshit about the money being in the chase; that's just an excuse for bookers tnot book faces and their championship runs in a compelling manner. It's bookers being lazy and not doing their jobs. Somewhere in the archives of this board, there is a post by S.L.L about how the adage of the money being in the chase is misplaced and ultimately a myth, but all you need to do is look at the 80s and see who won the wrestling war, and how the winning promotion's world champion was booked.

I haven't watched the ROH supercard and not sure if I'm going to, but I fully agree that booking heels to win all the time is a big problem. People paid big money to see Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, and Steve Austin WIN, not lose.

There's the idea that wins and losses don't really matter, but they do if you're a potential top babyface and the perception is that you lose all the damn time. Eddie Kingston is a prime example. He is but one of the guys that I thought would've been a top dog in AEW by now, but he's pretty much portrayed as a bipolar street thug and a loser with a big mouth that will throw down...but ultimately loses the fight anyway. Eddie's gotta win when it counts sometimes; the working class underdog stuff only works if you fight back and WIN.

The thing about Kingston is that he's a hothead who allows his emotions to sabotage him. It would make no sense for someone like that to win all or even most of the time. He needs some character progression if he's to become a winner. You could look to Sami Zayn and Bayley in NXT for inspiration. Their characters evolved significantly over the course of their championship journeys without losing the essence of who they were. On a somewhat related note, Mark Briscoe probably needs to drop the redneck kung fu or at least tone it down if he's to be a serious singles act. Even so, the ROH TV title match was my favorite match from Supercard of Honor with Joe in particular looking like a million bucks. I was pretty shocked by the lack of heat during the match, though. By the way, Madison Rayne being one of the judges for the Pure title match was LOL.

The waste of Eddie Kingston again man, its doing my head in all this to be honest. I think if i had time to watch their tv we are going to get Eddie & Shibata running round together which would be a good tag v bcc etc.

Surprised if anyone can figure out why you'd have Briscoe lose, I'm baffled.

I just watched the ROH show. It was really good, but there were a couple of problems.

Firstly, I don’t mean to sound like Jim Cornette here, but that injury to Dante Martin pretty much perfectly encapsulated what I hate about modem Pro Wrestling. That kid badly injured himself and is now going to be out injured for who knows how long, and why? Doing a stupid dangerous spot during a match full of stupid and dangerous spots. Top Flight are talented enough, they don’t need to be doing insane shit like that. In the last year alone, look at what happened to Rey Fenix and Julia Hart and I’m probably forgetting a bunch of other accidents as well.

Secondly, having Mark Briscoe lose that match, in front of his weeping parents and kids, and then following that up with Eddie losing too? That certainty is was…a choice.

I am all in on the new ROH. I subscribed to Honor Club, I watch the new show every week and it is generally excellent. I will gladly continue to pay for the pay-per-views. I am on board. But I think TK needs to put a little bit more thought into balancing his shows out a bit better and knowing that at some point you have to send the fans home at least a little happy.

I just watched the ROH post show press conference. I know there are a lot of people who do not share Mark Briscoe’s spiritual beliefs. But even if you don’t, when you listen to him talk, he is one of the most inspiring people. He has shown so much strength throughout this whole ordeal, it’s really something to see.
