spaldoni
The Royal Rumble is shaping up nicely. Hogan has left a huge void but there's a lot of depth in your roster. I could see more than one person stepping up. The highlight for me was Tommy Rich. It's so surreal seeing him in the WWF, especially with all the history he has in our game. I'm sure you have some fun things planned for him.
LastStopTour
Hopefully Dusty coming in gets a decent run here rather than as the polka-dotted buffoon at the end of his career. I think there are some good match-ups here for him and in the looks department, he shows you don't have to look like Hulk Hogan or Rick Rude to be a success. Control21
I like how the Rumble is shaping up so far. Could we see any surprises? It's that time of the year after all.... The Varsity Club continues to grow. They could go far in 1989 under the right leadership. Spivey vs the Steiners is a dream feud. Always fun to see the Rogeau Brothers and Dino Bravo pair up. Gorilla says he can’t wait… it is time to find out who the final entrant in the Royal Rumble will be… let’s go to the ring! The Ultimate Warrior vs Bad News Brown What a way to get things going here tonight… the Ultimate Warrior comes out and he looks incredible. Bad News doesn’t seem too pleased. They put on a decent match for about 10-minutes and we see Warrior put forth his best effort and surprisingly he has it together. Bad News gets some offense in… gets some heat… Warrior fights back with a passion and then hit the shoulder blocks… Bad News feeds up to the PRESS SLAM and then 3-count! Somehow… somehow… the Warrior has done it and the fans are explosive for him. He will be back later tonight… if he has anything left. We got to the back where Mean Gene is standing by with Hacksaw Duggan who says he’s going to prove to America that he is a rightful world champion. He’s going to get his hands on Savage and he won’t let go for nothing… tough guy! Savage holds the belt up and says this is the only thing that matters and Savage is the only one who matters…. DIG IT! INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP Rick Martel defends against the Honky Tonk Man w/ Jimmy Hart A good showdown between two men who have been at one another’s throats for a white. He looks very strong here… could we be on a collision course? Brother Love Show with the Von Erichs gets going over on the Brother Love set. Kerry and Kevin get a great ovation from the crowd. They are former tag team champions here in the WWF and vow to put together all the right moves to get their hands on the gold again. Kerry says that he and Kevin have been training for the past four months for their return and now the sky is the limit. They notice Honky Tonk walking to the back with Jimmy Hart and say they won’t waste opportunities… Honky looks at them and says something… Kevin is holding Kerry back… the Von Erichs ramble a little bit more before we see Jimmy Hart come back out and he is letting the Brothers have it before Kerry holds Kevin back… but on the other side of the stage comes the Honky Tonk Man and he DESTROYS a guitar right over the head of Kevin who goes down and comes up a bloody mess! Kerry tries to make chase but then has to go check on his brother… Kerry has a white shirt that gets blood on it and the fans are frenzied! WWF CHAMPIONSHIP Randy Savage defends against Hacksaw Jim Duggan A decent enough main event with two good names here in the WWF. Savage is going into another stratosphere now that some other people aren’t around. Duggan gives him a very good 13-minute match and Savage sells like crazy. Savage is able to get some heat on Duggan and before long we are primed for a big finish. Duggan looks for the big clothesline but Savage jumps out of the way and Duggan goes right into the ring post! Duggan looks hurt… Savage comes from behind and hits another big knee to the back and Duggan goes crashing into the post… Savage then rolls him up and has got a handful of tights for the 1….2….3! Savage retains the title in a pretty shocking finish… Duggan is holding his shoulder… this could be bad… Savage however holds the gold up high and he is without question the number one man but who will be in his way when the Royal Rumble begins!! It is now time for the Royal Rumble. The rules are as follows… two men will enter the ring and wrestle for 2-minutes. At the end of the two minutes, another man will enter the match. Elimination can occur at anytime when an individual is thrown over the top rope to the floor with both feet touching the ground. After all 30 participants have entered, the final remaining man standing in the ring will be the winner. Now, without further ado… the individual who drew number 1… from Atlantic City, New Jersey… King Kong Bundy! The man who drew number 2… the strongest man in the world… Hercules! Bundy comes down to a nice little pop from the crowd as Gorilla and Jesse wonder just how long he will be able to last in a match like this… Jesse says he is going to throw them over one by one! Hercules comes out to a nice pop and he goes right after Bundy! Hercules and King Kong Bundy have a fun little 2-minute slugfest. Heenan is doing everything he can to disrupt Hercules… Bundy then gets him into position for an Avalanche! Hercules crumbles to the ground and then Bundy picks him up and tosses him out of the ring to the floor! The timer is running down… Number 3 is… Andre the Giant!!! Oh my! Here comes the Giant and Heenan is going nuts at ringside. He can’t believe it! Andre gets in the ring and he is going toe to toe with Bundy and the crowd is going wild! These two big monsters may have had bad draws in the Rumble but they are letting each other have it! Number 4 - Ray Rougeau runs down with the Mouth of the South and he helps with Bundy. It is two on one for two minutes and Andre may be the only man who can withstand this kind of punishment! Number 5 - Here comes Dino Bravo! Bravo runs down and it is now 3 on 1 against Andre and the big man is starting to waver. Andre gets locked up in the ropes and now the heels are doing the business on him and the crowd can’t believe it. Andre breaks free but the numbers game is really wearing him down! Number 6 - Brutus the Barber Beefcake! Oh my! The Barber runs down to the ring and the crowd is going wild! Number 9 - The One… Man…Gang with Slick comes down. OMG looks to be on a tear and for two minutes we see some craziness. Gang with a huge clothesline on ST sending him out… he then grabs Maniac Matt and he tosses him to the floor! Then we see Gang and Bundy… they team up on Andre… here comes Bravo now… wait just a minute… Bundy with a big push and Andre goes over the top to the floor! The crowd is shocked! Number 10 - Andre is getting some love from the fans but when the British Bulldog is shown the crowd really gets going. He runs down to save Brutus Beefcake who is fallen prey to the giants in the ring. Bulldog with some big shots… lefts… rights.. Bulldog then picks up Gang for a BODYSLAM! Gang can’t believe it and he pops back up before Davey Boy comes with a huge clothesline and Gang is out of the ring and to the floor! The crowd explodes! Number 11 - Here comes the Warlord with Fuji. The Warlord comes in and he goes right for Davey Boy who is fighting him off with everything he's got. Bravo then comes over and he is fighting Davey Boy. Number 12 - From Mo-Town… here comes Scott Steiner! He gets a nice ovation from the crowd and he comes right after Warlord. Steiner is looking good here but Bundy tries to slow him down… Bundy sets him up for an Avalanche in the corner but Steiner with a huge elbow… Bundy is stunned… Bulldog runs with a huge clothesline and Bundy goes over the top to the floor! Number 13 - Terry Taylor comes down but he is biding his time… he’s waiting… Brutus looks like he is going to send Dino over the top but Dino is holding on… wait a minute… Taylor runs over and he tosses Beefcake! Number 14 - Shawn Michaels runs down to the ring. Terry Taylor is still gloating at Beefcake… Bulldog out of nowhere with a clothesline and Taylor goes over the top to the floor! Number 15 - Halfway there and here comes Heenan again with Haku. The Tongan monster doesn’t look like he’s here to have any fun. Haku goes right to work and nails Michaels, Bulldog, Steiner. Bravo and Warlord then join up as we’ve got a glorified six-man inside the ring and a brawl between Brutus and Taylor outside the ring… hair pulling and everything! Number 16 - Demolition Smash runs down and he gets a nice pop from the crowd. He gets in the ring and pulls the Warlord off Shawn Michaels… the crowd is still for a moment and then Michaels and Smash start throwing hands and the fans go nuts! Number 17 - The Barbarian runs down and he joins the Warlord as they are teaming up on the Bulldog. Smash and Michaels are still throwing. Haku and Bravo are looking to get Scotty out at any moment… Number 18 - Ravishing Rick Rude! Another one of the favorites and here comes the final member of the Heenan Family. He jumps right in and he finds a way to get underneath Michaels and Smash and Rude tosses them over the top to the floor! Rude is posing… could this be his night? Number 19 - Kevin Sullivan of the Varsity Club runs down. Jesse and Gorilla put over his debut of Dan Spivey earlier on… when is he going to be out here? Sullivan jumps in to a 3 on 1 on Scott Steiner with the Powers of Pain. Rude and Haku are doing everything they can to get Davey Boy out with Dino lending a hand! Number 20 - Here comes Rick Steiner. The elder brother runs down in just enough time to save his brother. Rick comes back with some huge shots… rights and lefts and a big suplex on Warlord that pops the crowd. Dino is backing up and here comes Rick Steiner with a huge clothesline and Dino goes out of the ring to the floor! Here comes the Warlord but Rick ducks down and sends him over the top to the floor! Number 21 - Greg Valentine is coming out and he talks to Jimmy Hart before getting in the ring and going after Davey Boy. Rick and Scott then team up and Scott tosses Sullivan to Rick who suplexes him over the top to the floor! Number 22 - hold the phone… here comes the Big Bossman! Bossman comes down and he doesn’t look happy. He jumps into the ring and he is going right after the Steiners! The Barbarian then comes over and Bossman doesn’t give an F and he tosses him over the top to the floor! Fuji and Slick are about to explode outside the ring. Bossman isn’t done though… he clotheslines Davey Boy from behind and the Bulldog is eliminated! Number 23 - Jacques Rougeau runs down and he joins Valentine in teaming up on Scott Steiner. Rick Steiner is taking on Rude while Haku and Bossman are now throwing down. Bossman isn’t done and he throws Haku out of the ring to the floor and the crowd can’t believe it! Slick is getting some major heat outside the ring. Number 24 - The Ultimate Warrior runs down to a nice pop from the crowd and he makes the rounds hammering away. The Bossman comes over and he throws Scott Steiner out of the ring to the floor and his run ends and the Bossman continues to look strong. Number 25 - Mike Rotundo comes down and he’s going right after Rick Steiner. Rotundo is hammering away on him. Autistic Dragon
Zenk looks good but Muta is on another level. Dangerously agrees and is directing his client towards gold. Martel convincingly retains his title. HTM is a sore loser and makes it the Von Erich's problem. The Macho Man is still on top of the mountain. It's always cool seeing wrestlers draw their number for the Rumble. Especially got a kick out of Heenan blatantly playing favorites. Speaking of the Rumble, Savage had better get ready because his Ultimate challenger has just stepped forward.
Control21
Muta gets a big win over Tom Zenk! That man is on a roll! With Hulk Hogan gone, Rick Martel could become a top guy in WWF and I think he has all the tools to become a big star. Jim Duggan was a tough opponent for Savage but the Macho Man continues to reign supreme....but Ultimate Warrior has won the Royal Rumble and he will be a very tough opponent if he can maintain his #1 contender status. That was a fantastic Royal Rumble and it delivered on all fronts.
spaldoni
Bad news for Brown as Warrior earns a spot in the Rumble. Zenk and Muta tear the house down. Muta is looking awesome. Martel looks strong as he retains against HTM. I'm so hoping we get a Martel/Muta IC match at WrestleMania. Von Erichs have arrived! However, their return is spoiled by HTM. BOOOOOOO. With Hogan gone, this is Savage's chance to become the WWF's franchise player. He really showed me something tonight as he shines in his title defense against the always popular Hacksaw. Fantastic job with the Rumble. I know you had a blast putting this together with the ring figures. Really well done with both the visuals and write up. Bossman looked like an absolute monster tonight. I even thought he might win it. Dusty looked impressive as well. In the end, the Warrior wins the Rumble. This is a good call, because Savage vs. Warrior is a money maker, especially if it happens at WrestleMania. 1989 will be an exciting and interesting year for the WWF. You're off to an incredible start.

Warrior may be heading to a title shot but Rude isn't done with him yet. The Varsity Club with a big opportunity against the Rockers. Hacksaw is ready for HUGE things!! The Royal Rumble was AWESOME! Warrior could be a huge money maker for you. Also thought the prelim matches and segments were just as good as the main event. spaldoni
Great follow up from the Rumble. Love the seeds planted for Wrestlemania. Main Event 2 should paint a pretty good picture for Mania, especially the Warrior/Rude match. Savage vs. Martel will be a dream match. Awesome ending with Rhodes standing side by side with the Von Erichs!

Autistic Dragon
4 big matches signed for Main Event 2. Rude & Warrior decide who's challenging for the gold at Mainia while Savage & Martel decide who's the real top champ. Plus the Rockers defend against the Varsity Club while Taylor & Beefcake meet in a hair vs hair match. The Texas Trio vs The Hart Foundation is picking up serious steam. The Bulldog bows up to OMG. Douglas & Koko could be a exciting addition to the tag scene.
Scarlet-Left
Building my excitement for the Von Erichs taking on the Hart Foundation very well here! Davey Boy Smith in a TV main event, getting a lovely powerslam on a big guy, perfect WWF!
Control21
Koko Ware and Shane Douglas should be a very interesting tag team. I could see them being very dynamic as partners. Valentine, Bravo, and Jimmy Hart make for an excellent group I think. They add a lot to the shows and I think they work together well. Can't wait for Steiners vs Varsity Club, that should be very exciting!
LowBlowPodcast
The Main Event II February 9th 1989 Randy Savage: Ohhhh yeeeeaaaahhhhh the Main Event… an event made for the Macho Man! They said it couldn’t be done but I am still the world champion… don’t think for a minute that the Macho Man is going to take it lightly… Rick Martel you are next in line… a long line of people that will bow down to the Macho Man when it is all said and done… DIG IT! Rick Martel: I have worked long and hard for this opportunity! Randy Savage, I’ve held this title for a long time… but your title is the next in line for me and there is nothing I won’t do to go and get it. I know you have a trick or two up your sleeve… but I have no secrets… I am coming with everything I’ve got! Kevin Sullivan has got his Varsity Club ready to go tonight and he says they aren’t afraid to step in the ring with anyone… Spivey and Rotundo look primed for this one… The Rockers look to be primed for this one and talk about the US tag titles being the last step towards the tag titles… they aren’t looking past the Varsity Club but they want to show the world they are ready for Demolition! Rick Rude: It is no lie Ultimate Warrior that you pulled the biggest upset of your career at the Royal Rumble but here tonight there is no sneak… there is no one else… it is one on one… and you’re in for a Rude Awakening! Ultimate Warrior: I have called upon the gods for the power and strength to eliminate 29 other men from the Royal Rumble… they came to me with all the power and now I stand here… one more battle away from the ultimate prize and I will show I am the Ultimate Warrior… may the gods give me the strength… one more time to defeat the one who calls himself Ravishing… Rick Rude… you live in a world of dreams… I live in a world of reality… it is you who is in for a Rude Awakening and I am going to be the one to wake you up to the power of the WARRIOR! Vince and Jesse bring us in to the Boston Garden and the crowd is wild and ready for a huge event… They put over the three matches on the card… the US tag titles may be the only titles on the line but there is so much more in store. They put over that the US tag team champions will face Demolition. It is time to decide the champions and who will be going on to WrestleMania 5! The Rockers © vs The Varsity Club w/ Kevin Sullivan A very hard fought contest and these guys go about 18-minutes. Demolition make their way down to the ring and they have a bird’s eyeview of what is going on. Sullivan is such a force outside the ring. He is getting involved here and there and the referee can’t seem to catch it. It then comes down when he throws Marty Jannetty into the ring post and the Varsity Club has things well in hand… that is until the Steiner Brothers run down and they pull Sullivan away from the ring. The crowd is going nuts here… the Steiners and Demolition then have a little look that gives you shivers… then inside the ring Rotundo falls prey to a huge superkick from Michaels. Spivey is out there trying to get Sullivan but Rotundo is rocked and put dow for the 3-count! The Rockers are the winners! The Varsity Club are arguing with the referee as they head to the back and this one might break loose with the Steiner Brothers… but inside the ring… well... Demolition are there with the world titles… Rockers hold the US tag titles… this is what it is all about… at WrestleMania… it is going to go down! Vince and Jesse continue to put over WrestleMania and we hear that two other big matches have been signed for WrestleMania… get this… Dusty Rhodes will go one on one with the Canadian strongman… Dino Bravo… plus… We’ll see Kerry and Kevin Von Erich taking on the Honkytonk Man and Greg Valentine in tag team action! That along with the tag title contest… plus we will find out tonight who will be facing WWF Champion Randy Savage.. He’s in action right now… let’s go to the ring! NON-TITLE CHAMPION VS CHAMPION Rick Martel vs Randy Savage A really good match with two men that have some good style comparisons. Martel is really getting a good face pop… and Savage is stirring up some big time heat. What in the world… Sherri… is that Sherri!?! Sherri is shown in the crowd and she is cheering for Ricky! Ricky! Savage goes into an extended heat segment and Martel does everything he can to fight back. We’ve got another visitor… there is Paul E Dangerously… and he’s with the Great Muta… they are on the interview podium… watching on… could Muta be next in line for the IC title? Well Martel does get it going… and here we go… Martel and Savage with a huge bump on the referee and he goes down. Martel is able to get the hometown Boston Crab on and the crowd is going wild but the referee is down… wait a second… Sherri… she jumps the rail and puts her purse in the ring? She goes to the other side and gets up on the apron and starts yelling and cheering for Martel! He’s got it locked in and some reason… he goes over to Sherri and tells her to get down… Savage… Savage grabs the purse and comes over with a huge shot right between the eyes to Martel! Savage throws the purse to Sherri. Savage covers… the referee is gaining his steam…. 1……2……3! Savage gets out of the ring and grabs the title… he shakes his head and Sherri is being escorted back by Patterson and Brisco… Savage is the champ… Sherri is a mystery… who will he face at Mania?! We’re in the back where Gene Okerlund is standing by and Paul E comes in about as annoying as hell…. He says he’s been on the phone with the WWF Championship Committee and he has put the challenge out… Rick Martel… WrestleMania 5… The Great Muta challenges the Intercontinental Champion Rick Martel! Gene tells him to take a number… we then get Dusty Rhodes in the spot and he puts over WrestleMania and his announced match with Dino Bravo. Gene asks the question on plenty of people’s minds… why not try for a match with the Big Bossman… Rhodes says that the battle between himself and the Big Bossman is going to go down when the time is right… the WWF knows that is a match that will tear down the arena and build it back up again… but Rhodes is on the Americana Tour, 1989 baby! He’s going to show that Canadian good for nothing Dino Bravo that the heart of America is too strong! WINNER GOES TO WRESTLEMANIA The Ultimate Warrior vs Ravishing Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan What a main event… right here on NBC… everything is on the line for these two. Rude looks like he is cut from stone… Warrior comes out like a maniac and here we go. These guys go about 15-minutes… and that’s a stretch for Warrior who really seems to be gassed at the end. We get big move after big move… Rude pulls out a nasty German Suplex, a nice shoulder breaker, and even a sick piledriver that looks to have broken Warrior’s neck. Rude goes up top and leaps for a diving fist but Warrior moves and Rude may have broken his hand! Rude is writhing in pain! Heenan is trying to get in there but Warrior nails him for good measure! Rude with a knee to his back and then he turns him around for the Rude Awakening but Warrior pulls Rude’s hands up and breaks the lock… then he knees Rude in the gut and PRESS SLAM! HE EVEN PUMPS RUDE! DROPS him down! Warrior hits the ropes and the BIG SPLASH for the 1…..2…..3!!! The Ultimate Warrior has won it… he has won the Rumble… now he goes on to WrestleMania to take on The Macho Man Randy Savage! Look at the card we’ve got so far! Autistic Dragon
Rockers fend off the VC to secure their long teased clash with Demolition. Sherri dramaticly interject herself in the champion vs champion match. Martel had better recover quickly because Muta is on his tail. Warrior is heading to WrestleMania!
