strobogo
I have a feeling there will be a big culling this year at WWE, that long line of sell outs is probably about to come to an end as the economy tanks and people have to make the choice of feeding their kids or paying bills. Plus, just classic corporation bullshit to constantly brag of record profits and then fire a bunch of work staff.
KawadaSmile
WWE's roster is indeed bloated, but I do feel that there are some acts on the cusp of being released/becoming agents or part-timers, which was more apparent during this year's Rumble. I'm a big Miz fan, but there is absolutely no on-screen role for him and that won't change at all with their current presentation. I can absolutely see people like Finn and Nattie either jumping ship or just moving to backstage functions, and people like Owens just quietly retiring. I think the bloat is a means of avoiding talent droughts like during the New Generation. And, of course, they are going to cut costs as much as possible. AEW has a very solid foundation (the four pillars bullshit a while ago aged horribly) in Ospreay/Swerve/Hangman/Toni/Statlander/Mercedes/FTR, but at the same time I do feel that they should pay attention to any of the more experienced WWE talent that might get released. strobogo
That Ricky Saints guy might be a solid fit in AEW
El-P
The bloated roster is for monopoly purpose, really. Likewise the TNA "relationship" and WWEID. Yeah, that FTR segment was awesome. Dax Harwood is not only a great in-ring worker, he's one hell of a promo. Nigel being protective of Tony despite being a heel is the kind of stuff that really makes this kind of segment better. Very WCW in a good way. Since Hurt Syndicate are basically babyface, you know what needs to be done, right ? FTR gets the tag titles back and have a great heel run with them. Fucking give Blake Christian a push. Any kind of push. See also : Brody King. I love Athena & Billie on AEW TV. It was about damn time. So, Wednesday has Takeshita vs Ospreay and Mercedes vs Athena ? Plus the wildcard which is hopefully Josh Alexander. WrestleMania what ?
Stiva
Yeah, I’m not too sure AEW need to pick up too many WWE releases at this point since they have a lot of workers who people are wanting to see them do more with. Obviously, someone like Balor feels like a no-brainer but I don’t see a lot of workers who could be on the chopping block that they’d go for. Then again, I wasn’t really sure they needed Ricochet but I had no idea he had this heel run in him so what do I know? I’d much rather they keep using all the luchadors on ROH and cherry pick the best of those
strobogo
Hard pass on Balor. Or DIY or MCMG. AEW has enough of indie and Japan/TNA guys from 2005-2012.
KawadaSmile
You know they'll want to relive those DIY/FTR classics from a while back, don't you?
strobogo
I'm good. But FTR vs MCMG maybe

El-P
Balor from ten years ago, sure. Balor after spending a decade in the machine, not so much, considering how well that stuff usually turns out. I would have loved the MCMG in AEW for sure. Perfect fit. (btw, remember when the Grizzled Young Vets showed at at Wembley last year ? No idea what the hell happened with them. They are not even featured on ROH) Nattie ? Please don't. 1 hour ago, Stiva said: You’ll get Matt Jackson gurning his way through a promo filled with Bullet Club references and you’ll like it Well. I would, for sure. 😎
Blehschmidt
Of the recently released people, the only one I'd like to see is Isla Dawn cause I think a potential stable with Julia Hart and Skye Blue would work. of people I could see WWE releasing, the only ones that interest me at all are Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate. MoS
That was, quite comfortably, one of the best Dynamites of all time
C.S.
Let me get this straight: AEW runs a first-time "dream match" between Mercedes and Athena, puts it in an inconsequential semi-final tournament slot, and kills Athena's undefeated streak in the process. What the hell.
sek69
They 100% are running it back at All In, and it's not like the undefeated streak was lost to some scrub. Also Mercedes doing the German off the apron tease and then hooking the bottom rope with her feet to pull herself back up was one of those things that looks simple but is super impressive to be able to do. Blehschmidt
So my guess would be... Athena costs Mercedes the tournament final (to Statlander of course, because Statlander must win everything) and then we get Athena/Mercedes 2 in Texas with all of their multiple times on the line. and Ospreay/Takeshita.... Holy Shit
MoS
TK loves to book "Challenger loses first match in what turns out to be an excellent match, and wins the title in the rematch". And that's perfectly fine, but he should book more upsets and "surprise" results than he does. In that regard, the trios title change was a wonderful and welcome surprise
KawadaSmile
PAC's injury made the title change more expected, but them doing it as early as possible was great. No bullshit, no time wasted, just give people what they want in the most fun overbooked kind of way. Love it when wrestling is just a good time and a blast in action. Stiva
It can’t be overstated how much that AEW running different looking arenas is helping these shows feel like an actual alternative again. A small building packed to the rafters and lit brightly is so much better than a larger, half empty building with half the crowd in darkness too. strobogo
That was a really cool looking venue too
Tetsujin
Except for the awful Attitude Era-esque MJF segment, top to bottom that was one of the very best Dynamites ever made.

This. No idea how the "pimping ain't easy" segment got out there. Rest of the show ? Complete fire and everything that AEW promised to be. The venue was awesome too. More of this. strobogo
It seemed very in character for MJF, but not so much for AEW.
MoS
This episode was my first time watching Josh Alexander, and I was very impressed. Seems to be a fantastic professional wrestler.
sek69
I didn't realize he wore the headgear because he literally had to have his goddamn ear reattached. Getting cauliflowered so bad you need your ear amputated is the gnarliest shit I've ever heard Also I love Toni Storm's new gimmick of trying to get the announcers to break every week. Her saying that she wouldn't go around calling herself a CEO right now in a post-Luigi world got a pop from me.
Stiva
I had totally forgot about Trent Barretta but giving Roppongi Vice a proper run as a heel team is as good an idea as any, I suppose
