Bix Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 One of the awesomest wrestlers ever. I have to go now but I'll post my thoughts later. Quote
rovert Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Very sad as sappy as it sounds at least he is no longer in pain. I hope you do an audio show on him Bix. RIP Quote
Marty Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Bummer way to close the year and decade. One of the best. Quote
MikeCampbell Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 My daughter is born on the same day that Doc passes. RIP Doc, you'll be sorely missed. Quote
El-P Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Well, that's not surprising considering how bad he looked on the last picture I saw of him. Too damn bad, cancer is a bitch. RIP Doc, he's been an awesome wrestler at times. Quote
Bix Posted December 30, 2009 Author Report Posted December 30, 2009 Put up an obit at CSS. Really awesome wrestler with a pretty unique presence. Loved the DiBiase team, Gordy matches, Freebirds feud, and AJPW stuff. I need to see if I have the Barbarian match from NJPW as I heard it was a lot of fun but never watched it. Quote
Death From Above Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Very sad as sappy as it sounds at least he is no longer in pain. I've watched a relative suffer through the progress of cancer, including it getting into the brain. I don't think it's sappy at all to be honest, nor do I think most who've seen anything similar. A sad point to end what's been a very downer year for me as a sort of ex-wrestling fan. Sadly I'm running out of old heroes to even say this about. Enjoyed his work a lot, so thanks for the memories Doc. RIP. Quote
Boondocks Kernoodle Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Hey Bix, I liked your writeup on CSS, but you referred to JR as Williams' "love-time friend." That was an unfortunate typo...I hope. Quote
Bix Posted January 6, 2010 Author Report Posted January 6, 2010 Thanks...and I should really go fix that. In hindsight, I think that Doc was sort of weirdly underrated. Almost unanimously considered a great wrestler but under-appreciated. Quote
Resident Evil Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Thanks...and I should really go fix that. In hindsight, I think that Doc was sort of weirdly underrated. Almost unanimously considered a great wrestler but under-appreciated. I would agree with that as well especially since I'm usually always a mark for the athletic/strength side of wrestling. Thanks for the memories Doc. Quote
kjh Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 In hindsight, I think that Doc was sort of weirdly underrated. Almost unanimously considered a great wrestler but under-appreciated. It's probably because he always worked for such talent rich groups where it was harder to standout as being really great. Quote

Yeah, he was always great, but even at his best, he was always about the fourth or fifth best guy in whatever promotion he was working in at any point. Quote
jdw Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Did I miss Dave doing a bio on Doc? Did it not get uploaded to WO-4.com? John Quote
Bix Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 If it doesn't get done within the next week or two it'll go the way of the Ernie Ladd bio, AWA history, and Umaga bio. Quote
jdw Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I don't even remember the Ladd bio. Must have been a time when I let my sub lapse. Did he do half of one, or a mini-preview one (like with Doc)? Don't remember the AWA History either. What was the deal with Umaga? I have to think he's written a chunk of the Doc one. Can't imagine that he would run the Halme and Bob Shamrock ones if he didn't have something in the holster for Doc. It's possible that he snapped out the Halme and Bob ones in an hour each. But some of the specifics in them makes it look like he put more time into them/ John Quote
Bix Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Ladd had a mini-preview. Dave also said he did all of the research, he just never put it together. When he was promising it, it really sounded like it would be one of the best WON features ever so I was really pissed off when it got bumped for MMA news of some sort. Quote
Cox Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I thought it was bumped for Chris the Babykiller? Quote
Bix Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Nope, the dates don't match up. Quote

kjh Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 The Ernie Ladd bio was bumped by UFC buying Pride. And boy, with the benefit of hindsight was that one of the most overhyped stories of the decade. Quote
