  1. I've never understood the need to gang up on people and put them down. It's very insecure and an eyerolling way to pump one's ego up. People can discuss points better than they are here without talking nonsensical garbage about a fellow peer.
  2. Yes, I can't remember the exact quote or quotes but he did want Benoit to stop doing it because of the neck damage it caused and the problems it had caused Harley himself.
  3. It was far from just chairshots that caused Benoit's screwed up brain tissue (and neck, which helped lead to his pain pill addiction). There were all the missed diving headbutts and tons of suplexes too. Kawada is alive. But we have no idea how screwed up his brain is from the headrops. Dittos Kobashi, Akiyama, Williams, etc. But on that same side, we also have Hashimoto, Takayama and Hoshikawa too. Not just Misawa. The problem is all their brains on both sides of the argument are probably screwed up, as Andrew Martin worked a generally safer style than Benoit, Mick, Sandman, Rotten, Kawada, Kobashi, Akiyama, Williams, Hashimoto, Takayama, Hoshikawa and Misawa. That's the big worry. It was also the way he leaned into everyone's offense and the snaps he'd take on his quick bumps. The way he'd run into the turnbuckle. There hasn't been too much talk about this but I always thought that Mike Awesome's style led to brain damage which led to it being easier to commit suicide.
  4. I batted an eye especially with those 3 (Rey less so because he didn't need to bulk up from his WCW days) because I knew what was going to happen and I knew it was going to be dangerous since they'd be taking the juice in excess. They have the steroid mindset. Back in 2000, it was one of main conerns for their health. After that as a fan, it was the WWF style and environment which I wasn't looking forward to. It's just not those three guys who have the mindset though. Others do and it will always be that way. Even people who are off the juice tend to have that mindset because of what is needed to be a professional wrestler.
  5. Man alive, I saw Richards vs Shingo the other day and it was absolutely incredible. It's right up there with the first KENTA vs Nakajima match for the match of the year. I knew Richards had improved as seen in the KENTA match earlier this year but I didn't realise he had become this great. I notice they're promoting him as the new best in the world after Dragon leaves to go to the WWE and well, yeah after this I'll certainly buy into that especially with KENTA on the shelf. Charisma, athletic ability, inner drive, selling and match structure. What else can one want?
  6. Doing crunches and situps have little to do with the amount of fat on one's stomach. You work on the muscles when you do that and not the fat.
  7. I don't want to go into that. Good job on getting the set done and spreading the 80s puro love!
  8. Are you doing the ECW poll Floyd? You can't escape us. Floyd -- Wondering why his Shneider tapes are all full of Sabu, Steven Richards and Whipwreck matches....
  9. Man, the obsession with our leader Mr. Meltzer is amazing!
  10. Didn't have to be edited. I just felt like deleting it at the time Basically... I don't agree with some of the matches which were left off and am puzzled on why some lesser matches were put on. I could never rate this set because of it even though I had no problem rating the WWF set even when I knew there were deserving matches missing. Fujinami rules and I'm glad to see more people will realise this Always been a Fujiwara fan I think one should try to view all the matches as if they were watching them for the first time ever. And while I'm at it -- Tiger Mask's effect, his aura that he created on the general audience is underappreciated.
  11. And I still think your logic is flawed SLL. I don't know why it hurts you to think of similarities between wrestling and MMA but apparantly it does. It goes like this Pro wrestling and MMA are not the same thing Pro wrestling is an exhibition of combat fighting designed to get the most emotionally out of the fans. The exhibition has some realness to it though. MMA is a sport where poeple try to beat each other. The exhibition of pro wrestling "has some realness" to it. As it is today, pro wrestling shares more in common with MMA than it does whatever other comparison anyone wants to make. To deny this is to deny the truth just to make a point. However, if pro wrestling were to stop a being an exhibition and go the competive route than it becomes 100 percent sport. A combat sport and the closest thing to that is MMA. If MMA were to become an exhibition, than it becomes pro wrestling. It's not that hard to understand. They're not the same thing but there are similarites.
  12. Owen but man I love Pillman's work too as evident by me putting a lot of his matches in the smarkschoice poll. He was one of my fav all time wrestlers. If Pillman never got hurt as bad as he did this would be an even more interesting comparison. Pillman was constantly hurt with injuries in Stampede and even by the time he got to WCW I think it hurt his atheltic abilities. As awesome as he was than, he could move even better in Stampede. And than in WCW, the injuries kept on piling up and you could tell there was a gradual decline over the years in what he could do in the ring. A terrific wrestler though who was made to be a babyface that everyone could get behind. Yes, everyone loves the loose cannon gimmick but Pillman was still better as a babyface.
  13. Who is better? Vince vs Shane? Jim Powers vs Paul Roma? Undertaker vs Vader? Finlay vs Bret hart? Mikey Whipwreck vs The Sandman?
  14. Ummm...the Dustin Rhodes stuff started in '02, and in '09 he's still recognized as great. Hell, even now the Goldust/Seamus feud got a bunch of positive reviews. If it's no longer trendy, then it's because it became conventional wisdom, not because he was a passing fad. Really, Dustin was pretty well liked by sheet readers when a lot of those 90's matches were happening. The 91 series with Austin was often cited as being the only thing worth seeing at WCW house shows. We liked him and Windham. The Dangerous Alliance matches were always well received. The street fight with Bunkhouse Buck blew people away. Goldust and Savio Vega had some popular stuff. The fact that there weren't more nepotism charges thrown around against Dustin in the early 90's is really a testament to how much people respected him in the ring. Also, Dustin was respected by the average non smark fans in WCW and the WWF as well. Dusting was always liked for his wrestling ability by the fans.
  15. Completely agree. I loved the variety in the list. Consensus picks are boring! though it does look like the consensus is that there is actually no consensus! One other thing going for Eddie vs Rey is that it is not hurt by having multiple matches from the series. Sure, they had a great match I hear on WCWSN but there are no multiple Clash of the Champions/PPV matches like Steamboat vs Flair. Steamboat vs Flair will get hurt a little by this.
  16. To me the heart of the attitude era was 98 to 99. They were easily my worse 2 years for WWF/WWE wrestling matches. Once 2000 hit the in ring product became a lot more enjoyable once the new blood came in and everyone upped their game. The attitude era was still strong though. Lots of attitude silliness still abound and even though the in ring product was better it still took forever before we could have a TV match that was over 12 mins in ring time. I think it was Jericho/Benoit vs HHH/Austin in 2001 that broke that streak.
  17. I'm not saying Kevin Nash and Konnan destroyed Rey Mysterio's workrate but the idea/concept behind it is more than valid. Your peers and your enviornment around you do shape you way more so than anyone really knows and/or accepts. Both positive and negative. We've seen it many times in different organizations. You bring in some hard working, enthusiastic positive thinking wrestlers/bookers and your entire product will be elevated. It translates to other people. This is fact. You bring in some lazy, negative thinking, wrestlers and that translates to other people. That is a fact as well. You take the same person and have him surrounded by one positive environment and than in a parraled dimension have him surrounded by a negative enviornment. There will be a signifigant difference within that person even though he has the same genetic structure.
  18. Watching Pillman vs Badd, I thought it was really cool was how Pillman was putting stuff from the 95 New Japan juniors tour into this match. I'm a big, big fan of this match though it hurt me as a Pillman fan to watch it because he couldn't physically go like he used to even if his heart wanted to. It still has one of my all time favourite endings.
  19. I think this is gonna be one of the most fun polls ever in seeing how it turns out. So much stuff is up in the air on how it will do or place. Opinions range all over the place. I love it! Glad to see Goldberg vs DDP on the list.
  20. To Dylan -- I remember really liking that Dean vs Rey match though I was very busy as of late and couldn't rewatch it for the poll. I remember really being engrossed by Dean's matwork at the time and I thought there was a lot of tension on seeing what Rey could do. I think and correct me if I'm wrong Rey gets a tease of offense at the beginning before being grounded thus making the tension of seeing what this new star can do even greater. And when he does fly, it hits home hard and is very meaningful. I found most of their series really engrossing. I like how Dean operates in the ring and his interaction with Rey so as a result several Dean matches made my list. Dean my Rey from the outside Nitro, Havoc and the Great American Bash all made it. Other Malenko matches also made my list. Floyd this is pretty cool. You'll have to post your list on smarkschoice too after the poll is over.
  21. Really like your list and the pics here FLoyd. It's obvious you watched a lot of matches for the poll. 10 of your matches are already on my list. And if that Malenko vs Rey match is pretty awful than I want the worse, most ridculously stupid horrendous matches ever. Loved that match and it easily made my list.
  22. Angle probably has brain damage too on top of the drug problems.
  23. Canadian wrestling fans love Sgt Slaughter. Why would anyone even think otherwise? I do not know of one fellow wrestling Canadian wrestling peer who doesn't like Sgt. Slaughter. In fact, every one of them is a big fan. None of them watch wrestling anymore but if they knew the Sarge was on TV, I guarantee you they would be bringing in more Canadian viewers. But yeah as a general rule, Canadians are a big fan of the Sarge.
