  1. But this begs the questions. Why does nobody in the WWE do this anymore? Back in the late 80s everybody was using this for awhile.
  2. Personally, If there's anything I ever hated in wrestling, it's the 10 punch spot in the corner bit especially when combined with other corny stuff. There's almost nothing that screams "This is Fake" more than that. It totally takes you out of the moment and ruins the match for me. Very few people can actually make this into a good, fun part of the match. It can be done but it's hard to do so. Actually, now that I think about it the turnbuckle 10 count is even worse. It was stuff like that and the heels running into fake. lazy punchess off a hot tag that made puroresu so inviting at the time when I initially started watching it. Thankfully, this is the one things the WWE seemed to eventually catch on to over the years as they from what I've seen have pretty much eliminated it.
  3. As far as Canada, in Bret Hart's mind that is true but not in anybody elses. It is true. The United States on an overall basis does have less respect. It's not even debatable as there's a signifigant difference.
  4. 1) From what I hear, The Rock was pretty good at not playing the politics game. And I know he produced more of his material than others did. To what extent on these issues, I don't know 2) I think when scripts starting becoming more prominent, mic skills generally overall got worse. 3)Yes they do have more respect for wrestling than the United States. Though some places in the States certainly respect wrestling quite a bit. 4)Biiig No for this. 5)They were the best of the family. Others did have some talent but not at that level. 6)In some ways yes. He had a really good bad a** persona. 7)First part YES. 2nd part is a biig NO.
  5. Some were good. Lots were well below either of their average, especially after the June '83 broadway. From your perspective. For me, they are all time classics. I would say one of their matches is top 5 personal best for both of them. That being said, I know what I like in my wrestling is vastly different from what you like.
  6. I absolutely loved Jumbo vs Flair. Some of my favourite matches for either guy.
  7. I don't totally agree with that. Even if the audience are spot fans and not individual fans of the wrestlers. When a match is repeated move for move there is always gonna be a signifigant difference in the match quality because of body language.
  8. I did see Bret win once with an elbow off of the middle rope. I never get the people who say Bret always did the same thing. I thought one of his biggest attritubtes was his versatility in his matches espceially when compared to his peers. GH -- I heard they aired a new Bret vs Austin match on WWE Tv so that's something to keep an eye on that might get overlooked otherwise.
  9. They will accept them. There's no doubt about that but someone who is jacked up a little bit gives off more crediblity. It's only natural just like in sports.
  10. What's the point in even bringing something like this up? Why are we talking about a person not going to another person's funeral? I don't think that's right at all. On top of that, it's just completely pointless, stupid negative gossip.
  11. Steamboat vs Jericho. I can't wait. I've never been this excited for a WWE match in years.
  12. That sounds like me talking about Backlund. John Nope. I'm a fan of Backlund's work too. Your opinions I respect even if I disagree with a few.
  13. Anyone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the argument has been that fans understand wrestling better than the wrestlers, as it is that wrestlers can't be trusted to talk about these types of things objectively because they're constantly working, or saying what they think will gain them favor. So putting too much stock in their opinions is a bad idea because they rarely say what they truthfully think. Ok, that's fine and common sense but we have to remember too that a good portion of IWC posters are biased too. Especially when they get more and more behind an idea or wrestler for whaterver reasons and even start to believe it. Yesterday, I was reading about a match from one of the top respected IWC reviewer/fans so I decided to check it out. Almsot everything he said about it was inaccurate and at times the complete opposite of reality. It was a horrible match. All becasue he was biased which I had seen before in his writing. Some people do keep a level head but a good amount don't.
  14. In certain parts of the country, especially more rural areas, they're quieter. Or in Ariake. Every wrestler I've talked to mentioned the difference. Granted you can say the same thing about the US, but here you're talking about a less homogenous population huge distances away with often dramatic cultural differences. But I digress. When two Japanese wrestlers are trading holds, the crowds will usually watch quietly and offer polite applause. In the states (especially these days) you'll either get smarky applause for everything or suck heat or murmuring. Very few US crowds ever just sit in silence. I've watched tons of Japanese wrestling and have often seen crowds be quiet and respectful. That being said, the Japanese fans can be more noisy than anyone else out there. Still, even where they're being noisy the way they pop for stuff comes off as being more respectful to a match than say what I've seen in North America. It's also always added to the enjoyment of a match for me as it highlights the strenghts of a match making it seem even more important. On an overall basis, I love the Japanese audience and how they react to a match.
  15. People honostly don't think that fans (even the smartest, most observant ones) on an overall basis can judge wrestling better or know more about wrestling than the wrestlers themselves, do they? There's tons of stuff that the wrestlers know that the fans will never know because they're looking from an outside perspective.
  16. A lot of the pop for the People's Elbow came from it being a comedy spot. Similar to the worm at the time.
  17. You go girl. I should've bought some with her.
  18. ?? That match was great. Most people who watched it thought was good to pretty good.
  19. Yeah, the forearm thing is a little overdone but man I don't want to go back to too many punches. Punches never did any real damage either though for the most part. Punches are illegal too
  20. The two things I'm mostly looking forward to at Wrestlemania are the Undertaker vs Michaels and Steamboat. If given enough time, Undertaker vs Michaels could be one of the best WWE/WWF matches ever. I don't see why anybody would buy Wrestlemania unless you're a new, hardcore fan and/or rich. Especially in this technological day and age.
  21. So Jericho, Cena and Ikeda are all anime fans. Kawada sings the theme song to Cutey Honey. Who else in the fighting world -- both pro wrestling and MMA -- are big fans?
  22. Man, I still laugh at how bad and pathetic that confidential piece was.
  23. Can't say that I agree. I absolutely loved Flair vs Vader and thought it was one of the best WCW matches of the 90s. That reminds me that a lot of wrestling is opinion. I don't think there's anything wrong with Keith's WCW list. It's what he likes and they're pretty much all good matches which he and the fans enjoyed.
  24. Does anyone remember the link to the site with Dan Ginnetty's wrestling show? I can't remember it. Thanks.
  25. I would try posting this on other forums too. I think you would get more responses. I don't think it matters if Misawa himself wrote the reviews to these matches. They're not going to get much response on this forum here because the mindset of the posters here is mostly elsewhere. I think the only match I've seen here is the last one. There could possibly be more discussion here if the matches were a little bit more known. I'm not saying they have to be classics to get discussion but just be a little bit more familiar to the reader. Oh. I did try posting it at DVDVR, but I kept getting an error message saying I am unable to make threads! Besides here, DVDVR is the only message boards I post at regularly, that I remember. I thought the matches I reviewed were all pretty well known, or have been viewed by a large majority of peeps. My train of thought was that if I've seen it, everyone here has seen it You have to ask permission in a permission thread at DVDVR in order to start topics. Nobody can start topics untill they get the go ahead.
