Contradictory rules are really not that uncommon in the work place, especially in a large corporation. The announcer rules, if actually followed, would lead to better announcing than what we have.
-
I really did not see that Bockwinkel title change coming at all. Especially with your "he's too old to be NWA Champion" deal. I'm interested to see what that goes. You got Apollo's finisher right, good job. Did you watch any of his matches besides the Dory one?

I really liked the Mean Gene interview, I just wish they would have talked more about Gene's AWA & WWF days. I did kind of enjoy the bit at the end where Flair is like "I don't remember us having any problems Gene" and Gene was like "yea well I wasn't too happy with that time you had a fake heart attack in the ring with me" and Flair just starts laughing like "Hey that was their idea"

I usually do good playing along while listening but I don't think I got more than 2 or 3 of those PWI headlines. It's really hard to tell the difference between their ridiculous real headlines and Johnny's fake ridiculous headlines. "Cowboy Bob Orton's terror plot with Jimmy Snuka: Their plot to take over the WWF" sounds SO made up I couldn't believe that one was real. -
Why are you just automatically assuming Austin had anything to do with it? I really do not see Steve Austin calling WWE HQ and saying shit about this. Most likely they saw what was going on and saw Piper trying to start an internet feud with Austin and said "yea we're not going to pay you while you do this stupid shit"

80s-90s Vince slaughters current Michael Cole. At least you felt Vince's excitement was genuine.
-
Some of those are words SHOULD be banned. Does Michael Cole really need to be talking about babyfaces and heels? Or say someone in a match is "blown up"? Do we want everyone to sound like Matt Striker and "I'm marking out bro!"? What exactly is lost by calling a feud a rivalry instead of a feud? I don't really see the problem with the word feud but the amount of "omg this is why WWE is awful and Vince should die already" posts I've read about this is asinine (not lumping you into that Grimmas). I could list about twice as many rules they have on there that are logical and make perfect sense but people just keep cherry picking "You can't say wrestling!" as if that's even new.
-
Why is everyone making such a big deal about this? What is REALLY so bad about those rules except for some of the "Don't say belt or title shot" shit? I love how many posts I've read around the net about "Geez how can they work with so many rules!?" like every employer under the sun doesn't have an Employee Handbook that has about 2-3 times as much shit in it.

If I had never watched any wrestling that wasn't in pristine perfect quality I'd.....probably have more money and storage space. But really, I have Southeastern DVDs that you can barely even see what the fuck is going on the video is either so dark or just blurry as shit. I'm still watching them. Sheepherders vs. The Fabs in a Cage is a handheld that has pretty awful video quality but it's still one of the wildest, craziest, most awesome brawls I've ever seen.
-
If you want to know about any of the matches that no one has reviewed yet, shout them out and I'll watch it and post my thoughts.

I don't give a shit about aspect ratio. I just watched a whole movie converted from 16:9 to 4:3 in VLC because my monitor is not big enough to lose 33% of the screen to black bars. The audio thing is a pain in my ass though because that forces me to either lose crowd noise or sit at the computer the entire time with my headphones in.

It's mostly on film reels (who was recording onto videotape in 1979??) @rbtharpe Is the Houston library mostly on film reels or on video tape? @KrisPLettuce / original film reels - 1 inch - 2 inch - and 3/4 inch tape! And we are transferring it all to Hi Def for the best view!

Hogan did not tank them in 2002, they tanked themselves. They were IDIOTS to rush the belt onto Hulk like that. They hurt the title and essentially killed off a lot of Hulk's popularity. He could have been a hot attraction in 2002 if they'd used him right.
-
I'm not going to get upset with Jim Ross over that. I think it's obviously lost some context which would seem to be "Vince McMahon doesn't think Asian women are attractive/that regular American dudes think Asian women are attractive" I mean how ELSE do you try to appeal to him in that situation? I guess he could have called Vince out for being racist but I don't think it would have gotten Gail Kim hired.

Houston Wrestling Results (NWA Classics Research)
goc replied to KrisZ's topic in Megathread archive
I want to say the Sweetan/Lawler match is out there but I think that one might be from San Antonio and not Houston. -
Oh yeah, that was brutal. In matches he usually hits them pretty damn good, but this one just was totally off.
-
I would rather we run a poll for that job with Matt D and shoe as the candidates
-
I don't think they really have footage going back that far. They uploaded 2 "matches" from the early 70s but it was really just pictures in a slideshow narrated by Paul Boesch.
-
No. I thought in the announcement of the service that they said the daily uploads would start in August but I think I read on twitter they plan to start daily uploads in mid-July.
-
I haven't noticed any issues with stretching at all, even when people have tried to point it on in pictures it's usually barely noticeable and would be maybe 1 second of a match where guys are on the margin of the screen like that anyway. It's wrestling, 99% of the action takes place in the center of the screen because it's the only focus. The audio mix is a pain in my ass though and essentially forces me to use headphones because no matter what I did with my speaker settings I could not get both announcers to be the same volume or make them not drown out the crowd noise.
-
I doubt they spent ANY money on that. Bruce Tharpe himself is one of the announcers. I still wish they had an option for no commentary at all and just crowd noise for the matches that don't have Boesch commentary. I think they are on the right track with the service overall though, they have already started to work on the navigation issues. I don't mind the "1 match a day" upload pace because it's at least a guarantee of steady new content and it makes you more likely to watch everything instead of just going "well why the fuck do I want to watch Pat Rose vs. Mark Ragin when there's still more Terry Funk stuff I haven't seen yet?"
-
It has been brought up. Bruce Tharpe has stated a couple different times he's working on getting a Roku App. The amount of flack NWAClassics has taken for technical isues is kind of astounding to me. It's not like WWE Network was flawless from the start (or even flawless now) and they have a lot more resources at their disposal. The matches look great to me.

The PWI Headlines were really hard this time around. -
I don't even know what this means. But for the record this stuff WAS recorded onto film reels which is why it's so expensive to convert and may account for the "film-like" picture quality that seems to be causing you so much pain and suffering.
