That's pretty interesting, I didn't know that Georgia had so much interest in trying to get Knoxville going. I know they tried at least 3 times then since you told me that Southeastern from 1980 Knoxville was actually run by Jim Barnett and had ties to Georgia. Kind of surprised they didn't have more luck in 1980 also since that TV was pretty darn good.

If the Ascension is done, I think Konnor just needs a new hairstyle to make a fine fake Mongolian. Wrestling is sorely missing white guys with silly haircuts claiming to be Mongolian.

Based on the opponent I don't think it's a bad choice, depending on where they go. If Bryan wins the title and Bray challenges him as the guy Bryan has never beat, then it's pretty smart booking. I have seen nothing to indicate that they think that far in advance any more though.

I've been watching some 1983 Georgia lately and there are these matches from a different studio with Les Thatcher & Bob Roop as the commentary team instead of Gordon Solie calling the action. For a commentary team that I'd never heard of, they work really well together and it would be interesting to see them call the national show instead of Gordon. But I've personally always liked Thatcher over Gordon so I'm possibly biased.

JVK have you watched any more 1983 Georgia? Things seem to really drop off on the babyface side, I don't know if that's editing or not but we pretty much only hear the names of Tommy Rich & Butch Reed and don't really seem them much any more. But Larry Zybyszko shows up and is immediately the best squash match guy & possibly the best promo there as well. I haven't yet seen the infamous title switch with him buying the title from Killer Brooks (who sucks and seems to have less to offer than even Paul Ellering & The Iron Sheik) but I did see the promo with him offering to buy it if Brooks beats Orndorff at the Omni since Larry claims he's being dodged. There are also some matches from what I would guess is the local GCW TV that wasn't shown nationally that has a very good commentary team of Les Thatcher & Bob Roop that I think you'd like.

I wonder if Tom Magee isn't a victim of his own great look. Did he ever get a chance to actually develop anywhere? I don't remember him working anywhere for a long stint to get experience. He's a guy who probably would have benefited from a year under a mask in Memphis.

I really feel like they are saving Rusev to be the big challenger for after WrestleMania (most likely for Reigns) but I could be completely wrong because I'm trying to think logically.

I guess another thing to consider here is which territories were considered a "home every night" territory. Going from spot to spot on those Florida locations gives me more miles, but I know Florida had a reputation as an easy travel territory where you could go home every night because most trips were in the 2-3 hour range. Most guys were staying in apartments in Tampa right?
-
So I thought it would be kind of cool to get an idea of the differences in travel times between the various promotions during the territory era. The only territory loops that I'm totally sure of though would be the Memphis loop which didn't vary too much outside of Thursday spot shows. So for the Memphis loop it went: Monday: Memphis, TN Tuesday: Louisville, KY (6 hours, 30 miles from Memphis) Wednesday: Evansville, IN (2 hours, 120 miles from Louisville) Thursday: Spot show (for the purpose of this exercise I used Blytheville, AR) (2 hours, 250 miles from Evansville) Friday:Tupelo, MS (3 hours, 180 miles from Tupelo) Saturday: Memphis TV in the morning & Nashville at night (2 hours, 110 miles from Tupelo to Memphis then 3 hours & 15 minutes, 210 miles from Memphis to Nashville) Plugging that into Mapquest gives me 1200+ miles a week and over 20 hours of driving time. Does anyone have a good weekly loop for Mid-South, Mid-Atlantic, Florida, etc. to use as a comparison?

I wouldn't think it would be that hard for someone to do a Kevin Sullivan rip-off that's better than Bray. As much as I kind of shit on Sulivan's promos for constantly going on about trips to Singapore and Abuddadein at least there was usually a point SOMEWHERE in what he had to say. Bray never seems like he's actually SAYING anything, just talking.

I was somewhat considering subscribing again but hearing about them putting a new season of Tough Enough on USA and Main Event being pulled off the Network due to issues with Sky, I feel like they've already pretty much given up on making the Network anywhere near as good as what it could & should be.

Holy fucking shit. What is this and where can I see the entire thing? Titanes en el Ring from Argentina. Check out my post history, in the "Comments that don't deserve a thread" I posted a link to mediafire where you can download it & also with english subtitles.

Damn I wish I could see the match they had!
-
Yes because the reverse isn't true. It's not like people are considering a guy like Big Daddy for this just because he was on top for so long in England.
-
Hah, I saw that pop up the other day also. You should have gone ahead and included the one of him booting the dude in the face and tackling him thru a wall.

I would hope they have a better long term replacement than Booker T then. I mean they've already decided they don't care for him and they have pretty much any ex-wrestler they want at their disposal to try out for the job since they'll probably never go with Regal. Has Road Dogg ever done color?
-
I don't really see how this is going to be an upgrade though. I thought they took Booker T out of the booth as an acknowledgement that he wasn't good. Maybe Lawler will decide he doesn't want to do Smackdown and quit and they'll try someone new in that role (like Regal who I think might even make Michael Cole bearable)

SLL's All-Request Friday Nights on Segunda Caida
goc replied to S.L.L.'s topic in Publications and Podcasts
It doesn't have the best finish or anything but this is definitely a fun way to spend 15 minutes (there is about a 3-4 minute uncut commercial break in there, although one of the commercials features luchadores having a pizza delivered into the ring that I quite liked) http://youtu.be/mIv7iL57K9Q -

[1992-04-05-WWF-Wrestlemania VIII] Hulk Hogan vs Sid Justice
goc replied to Loss's topic in April 1992
Probably just didn't factor in how much longer it was going to take for him to run down that super long entrance way instead of the normal set up. -
I know everyone is really high on NXT but am I the only one who thinks it's really not doing a very good job of preparing guys for the main roster? It's too cutesy and geeky and the crowd there is really not anything like your average Raw crowd. The Ascension worked in NXT but it feels very low rent when you see it on Raw. Same kind of thing with Adam Rose and his entourage.

Actually according to Bruce Prichard on Steve Austin's podcast he had to fight really hard to be able to do the character. He says he pitched it to Vince and Vince loved it and asked him who he had in mind for it. Vince's reaction to Bruce saying he wanted to do it was "Not with that face pal!" and Bruce couldn't convince him otherwise. So after a week or two Bruce just showed up and burst into Vince's office with his hair slicked back and cut a Brother Love promo on Vince and the guy he was in his office with and then just left. He said later he found out it was some important TV person Vince was talking to but that Vince loved the promo and came up with the red face paint to cover up whatever deficiencies he felt there were in Bruce's face.
