Southwest Championship Wrestling 1983 - The continuation
goc replied to goc's topic in Armchair Booking
He's definitely the most "unknown" guy who got a big push in the 1983 project (with Mike Masters maybe being #2) but my whole outlook on it was that if you had an entirely new set of bookers take over in July of 1983 then you would have wound up with a least a few guys getting pushes that didn't get them in real life. I watched every piece of footage I could find on El Gran Apollo before deciding to run with him though and I think he could have realistically lived up to the things I've had him doing, with the Apollo/Mascaras vs. Gino & Tully match that popped up on NWA Demand being a nice confirmation of that. The only thing I think I've had him do that he probably couldn't have actually done is cut halfway decent promos in English. But in this reality I've also had someone bilingual riding with him to help teach him English. Now whether he manages to actually beat Saito for the Southwest Title remains to be seen but he's at least proven himself to be able to go toe to toe with the champ. -
Southwest Championship Wrestling 1983 - The continuation

Taped at The Junction in San Antonio, TX on 1/23 Southwest Championship Wrestling airing on Saturday 1/28 in local markets -Instead of the usual intro the show opens with a video of Ron Starr turning on Jim Duggan at the HemisFair Arena and breaking his arm Steve Stack: Welcome to a very special edition of Southwest Championship Wrestling! This week we had planned to spend the entire hour talking about the Loser Leaves Texas match this Sunday night between David Von Erich and Tully Blanchard but with some huge events taking place over the past week we're going to have to talk about those first before we spend the second half of the show on the Loser Leaves Texas showdown. As you saw at the start of the program, instead of teaming with Jim Duggan against the Iraqi Special Forces last Sunday night, Ron Starr teamed with the Iraqi Special Forces to help break Jim Duggan's arm. We had a camera backstage in the HemisFair Arena and got immediate comments from Ron Starr after that took place and we'll be showing that video when we come back from break. So don't go away, we'll be right back with the words straight from Ron Starr's mouth on why he turned his back on 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan. -First commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back and now let's go ahead and play the video we shot last Sunday night in the locker room of the HemisFair Arena asking Ron Starr just why he helped the Iraqi Special Forces break Jim Duggan's arm. Steve Stack: Well I don't know quite what to say about Ron Starr suddenly becoming a Sheik but someone else certainly had something they wanted to say about it. I received word that someone in the other locker room in the HemisFair Arena wanted to know what Ron Starr had to say. So I went over and found out that Roy Lee Welch wanted to challenge Ron Starr to a match and after telling him the things that Ron Starr had to say, he was even more riled up and ready to fight. Steve Stack: A match between Ron Starr and Roy Lee Welch has been signed and will take place this Sunday night in the HemisFair Arena. Right now we've got to take a commercial break but when we come back we're going to be showing video of another big event that took place at the HemisFair Arena last Sunday night when The Assassins lost to The Fabulous Ones and were forced to unmask! Don't go away we'll be right back. -Second commercial break- Steve Stack: Fans as you just saw in the video, Assassin #1 refused to unmask and as a result of that he has been banned not just from Southwest Championship Wrestling but the entire AWA. You also saw in that video the unmasking of Assassin #2. It seemed that the fans in the arena had no idea who that man was even without the mask and they weren't alone as I also was unfamiliar with him. So I went back to the locker room of the HemisFair Arena and talked to him to find out his name and his history in the professional wrestling business. Steve Stack: Well I hope that video answered a lot of the questions the fans had about just who Assassin #2 is. He's going to be in action this Sunday night in the HemisFair Arena for the first time under his real name of Vic Rain as he takes on El Bracero. Some other matches that are scheduled to take place this Sunday night are The Fabulous Ones defending the Southwest Tag Team Titles against Ron Sexton and Pat Rose, Sheik Ron Starr against Roy Lee Welch, Mike Masters defending the Southwest Television Title against Tiger Conway Jr, the return to the Southwest area of former Southwest Tag Team Champions, The Grapplers, as they will be taking on the team of Mike Jackson and Tony Torres and in the semi-main event Mr. Saito will defend the Southwest Heavyweight Title in a No Disqualification match against El Gran Apollo. But as everyone knows the main event will be a Loser Leaves Texas match between Tully Blanchard and David Von Erich. Last Sunday night David and Tully had a match that was supposed to determine who would pick the stipulations for the match this Sunday night but that match ended in a double countout. So when we come back from this next commercial break we are going to be talking to the AWA President Stanley Blackburn about his decision about what the stipulations of the Loser Leaves Texas match will be, don't go away! -Third commercial break- Steve Stack: Welcome back to Southwest Championship Wrestling! With me now is the President of the AWA, Stanley Blackburn. Mr. Blackburn, last Sunday night David Von Erich and Tully Blanchard met in a match where the winner would get to decide what the stipulations of the Loser Leaves Texas match would be. With that match ending in a draw, there was no winner. So how did you decide upon the stipulations? Stanley Blackburn: It seemed to me that with the match ending in a draw there was no winner but there was also no loser. I didn't see a reason to punish either man by denying them the stipulation that they wanted and thus I made the main event this Sunday night both a Texas Death Match AND a Cage Match! Steve Stack: Wow! That's a huge announcement, thank you for coming on the program to tell us your decision. Right now I want to play a special video package that will show just how this Loser Leaves Texas Death Match inside a Steel Cage situation came about. This video will show the formation of the Texas Dynasty tag team, how that tag team ended and the events that have taken place between the two men since their team ended. Steve Stack: I'd like to thank the hard working production crew of Southwest Championship Wrestling for putting together that great video. We've got to take a break now but when we come back we're going to be talking to Tully Blanchard about his feud with David Von Erich and how he feels now that it's all coming to a head in the Loser Leaves Texas Death Match inside a Steel Cage this Sunday night. Don't go away we'll be right back! -Fourth commercial break- Steve Stack: Welcome back to Southwest Championship Wrestling! Before I bring on Sunshine and Tully Blanchard I need to address something that happened on the program last week. First I'd like to just assure all the fans who called the television stations and the office of Southwest Championship Wrestling that I am fine and I was not injured or hurt by Eddie Gilbert last week. Also Ken Lucas wanted to be on the program today but unfortunately I couldn't give him any interview time with today's special in-depth look at the feud between Tully Blanchard and David Von Erich. But Ken Lucas has asked that I at least announce that he will be at the HemisFair Arena this Sunday night and will be going to the ring to make a special challenge to Eddie Gilbert to come out and fight him. I don't even know if Eddie Gilbert is still in Texas so I have no idea if he will show up to answer that challenge but I gave my word to Ken Lucas that I would announce it here on the program so I have done so. Now with that out of the way I would like to bring out Tully Blanchard and his valet Sunshine. Tully Blanchard and Sunshine come out Tully Blanchard: Didn't you listen to anything I said last week Steve Stack? Sunshine is not my valet, she is my manager and more than that she is my woman. And hopefully Eddie Gilbert will come back on the show sometime and shove you around some more so she can replace you as the host of this show. Steve Stack: I don't find that very humorous Tully and I'd appreciate if we could not talk about that and instead talk about your match this Sunday night against David Von Erich. Tully Blanchard: That's fine Steve Stack because I have a lot to say about that. First of all I think it's ridiculous the way that Stanley Blackburn gave David Von Erich what he wanted and put the match inside a Steel Cage. Steve Stack: But he also gave you the stipulations that YOU wanted and made it a Texas Death Match. Tully Blanchard: It's not the same thing now Steve Stack! I wanted to drag David Von Erich all around the HemisFair Arena so every fan in attendance could see the blood streaming down his face, so they could see me beat the little bit of brains he has left out of his head and see me send him right out of MY state of Texas. Steve Stack: I've heard a few people say the reason you wanted a Texas Death Match is you wanted to make sure Sunshine and her loaded purse could get involved in the match and maybe leave open the possibility of having someone else come to your aid. Tully Blanchard: Who are these people you've been talking to Steve Stack? It's a wonder that there is anyone dumber than you in this area but there must be if anyone is putting that kind of false information in your ear. I don't need anything but these two fists right here to beat David Von Erich. But since it IS going to be a Steel Cage I might just find a way to use that door like I did so well the last time he and I stepped into a Cage together. Steve Stack: Since we have a lot more time to talk than the usual interview segment, I'd like to ask you about that incident. Did you know going into that tag team match that if you and David lost to The Fabulous Ones that you were going to turn on him? Tully Blanchard: I knew that he was holding me back. I knew that he was the dead weight of the team. I knew that I was the real Texas Dynasty and he was just riding my coat tails. And when he caused us to lose to The Fabulous Ones, I knew it was time to rid myself of that dead weight. Steve Stack: Well if you feel that way about David, why did you call him to be your tag team partner in the first place? At that time you had Killer Khan here as your bodyguard, why didn't you just team with him? Tully Blanchard: Maybe that's what I should have done Steve Stack, I'm sure if I had teamed up with Killer Khan then we would have got rid of The Fabulous Ones a long time ago and we'd probably still be the Southwest Tag Team Champions together. But what you have wrong is that I didn't call David, he called me. He said he was sick of hearing about how The Fabulous Ones were the hot young team in Texas, how they were the heart throbs of the state and all the women were going crazy for them. He said that The Von Erichs were the only heart throbs in the state and that he wanted to send The Fabs back to Memphis but that his brothers didn't want to come to San Antonio to do it so he asked me to let him be my partner for the tournament. I should have said no but I thought it would be funny to shock the wrestling world by having a Blanchard and a Von Erich teaming up so I told him he could come down here and be my partner. And for a time I was able to carry him on my shoulders to greatness but eventually the burden just got too great for me and I had to drop him. Steve Stack: A lot of people seem to think that David Von Erich is going to be victorious this Sunday night and that you're going to be leaving Texas. What do you have to say to those people? Tully Blanchard: I'd like to ask them if they know about the fact that David Von Erich has already found himself some place else to wrestle? Steve Stack: What are you talking about? Tully Blanchard: David Von Erich knows he's going to lose this Sunday, he knows I'm going to run him out of Texas. That's why he got himself booked to go on a tour of Japan. He knows that he can't just go back to Dallas and wrestle with his brothers so he had to find work half way around the world with All Japan Pro Wrestling. Look it up yourself Steve Stack, the next tour for All Japan starts on February 10th and David Von Erich will be on it. The fans and whatever idiots you've been talking to can think whatever they want Steve Stack, but David Von Erich knows he's going to lose this Sunday. He knows he won't be able to wrestle in Texas for at least 90 days and that's why he's going to Japan. Steve Stack: I have to admit I did not know about that but a lot of wrestlers go on those Japan tours, it doesn't mean that David knew that he was going to lose this Sunday and he probably had that tour planned long before this Loser Leaves Texas match was ever made. Tully Blanchard: Lie to yourself all you want Steve Stack, that Japan tour is all the proof you should need. David knows he can't beat me. Steve Stack: Well that brings me to the next thing I wanted to ask you about in the only definitive match you've had against each other, David defeated you. He made you pass out in the Iron Claw and beat you for the Southwest Heavyweight Title. Tully Blanchard: What are you talking about Steve Stack!? He cheated to win that match, he hit me with the Southwest Title and busted me open and that's the only reason I passed out in the match. I passed out from the blood loss not from that little wimpy Iron Claw that he does. Steve Stack: Let me ask Sunshine a question now. Sunshine if Tully Blanchard has to leave the state of Texas, are you going to go with him? Sunshine: I haven't even thought about that Steve Stack because I know that Tully isn't going anywhere. The last time David got into a Steel Cage with my man Tully, he had to be taken out of the arena on a stretcher. At the time I was distraught and hysterical over seeing him get carried out but I know it's going to happen again this Sunday night and the only tears I will cry will be tears of joy. Tears of joy because the biggest mistake of my life will finally be out of my life and Tully and I can finally have a future without David Von Erich in it. Steve Stack: Well we're about out of time here now Tully, do you have any last comments you'd like to make about the match this Sunday? Tully Blanchard: I do have one last thing I want to say. I am the longest reigning Southwest Heavyweight Champion of all time, I held that belt for over 6 months. David Von Erich held it for less than 2 hours. That alone should tell you just how big the difference is between us as wrestlers. For anyone who is stupid enough to be a fan of David Von Erich, make sure you buy your tickets to say goodbye to him this Sunday night. Because a Yellow Rose can easily be plucked but I'm the Texas Dynasty and a dynasty lasts forever. Tully and Sunshine leave the interview area Steve Stack: Well fans Tully and Sunshine both seem very confident going into the Loser Leaves Texas match this Sunday night. Right now we've got to take our last commercial break of the program but when we come back we're going to talk to that Yellow Rose of Texas of himself, David Von Erich. Don't go away we'll be right back! -Fifth and final commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back on Southwest Championship Wrestling and with me now is the man who will be facing Tully Blanchard in the much talked about Loser Leaves Texas match this Sunday night, David Von Erich! David before we talk about anything else I need to ask you if what Tully Blanchard said is true. Are you planning on going on the next tour with All Japan? David Von Erich: Well Steve Stack I'm surprised you were able to stand the smell out here a few minutes ago with all the BS that Tully was dropping. But the thing about me going to Japan is just about the only thing he said that IS true. Yes, I am going on the next tour with All Japan that starts on February 10th. And like you said, I made plans to go on that tour long before I ever signed the contract for the Loser Leaves Texas match. I'm only going to be gone from Texas for 3 weeks and Tully is going to be gone at least 90 days, because he is the one who is going to lose this Sunday night. Steve Stack: You said that was the only thing Tully said that was true, then do you dispute what he said about how your partnership started? David Von Erich: Yes I do Steve Stack. I never called Tully Blanchard and asked him if I could be his partner, he called me. He called me and I was so surprised that he would even call me that I let my guard down and I fell for all his lies. He told me about how if we teamed up together it would be the biggest news in all of wrestling, how we'd be on the cover of every wrestling magazine, how we'd be getting World Tag Team Title matches and all kinds of things. And I wanted to prove that I could achieve success away from my family, that I could be a champion somewhere other than Dallas so I told Tully I would be his partner. Steve Stack: Once you started to spend time around Tully, what was your opinion of him? You've always been a straight forward kind of guy, you didn't rely on other people to help you win matches the way that you were doing as part of The Texas Dynasty when people like Killer Khan, Sunshine and Mr. Saito were interfering in matches to help you. What made you change your style to be more like Tully's? David Von Erich: Well I grew up on a ranch as part of a big family. I grew up doing chores on the farm and wearing hand me down clothes. When I got around Tully he was living an entirely different kind of lifestyle. He grew up an only child and instead of hand me downs he just had everything handed to him. I had never really been around fancy restaurants or worn expensive suits but that's how Tully lived his life and I just got sucked into it. At first I didn't like winning my matches the way I was winning them but it made things easier and it meant I wasn't as beat up at the end of the night when it came time to go out and party with Tully and Sunshine. Steve Stack: Before your Cage match teaming with Tully against The Fabulous Ones did you have any sense that Tully might betray you if you lose that match? David Von Erich: No, but I really should have seen it coming. When Tully and I lost the match it meant that we couldn't wrestle for the Southwest Tag Team Titles anymore and I should have known that if we couldn't be champions together that Tully wouldn't want to be a team and that of course he would try and take me out of the picture so that I wouldn't try to come after his Southwest Heavyweight Title. After he slammed the cage door on my head I went back to my family's ranch in Dallas to recover and that's when I realized just how far I had gotten off the right path. I'm not a man who belongs in fancy restaurants or wearing expensive suits. I should have never even left Dallas to come down to San Antonio to team with Tully but after what he did to me I had no choice but to come back and get my revenge on him. Steve Stack: When you came back and finally got your match with Tully, things really did not go as you planned it. What went through your mind after that match, after Sunshine hit you with her loaded purse and left the HemisFair Arena on the arm of Tully Blanchard? David Von Erich: That was the lowest moment of my life. Slamming the steel cage door on my head hurt me more physically but Sunshine betraying me hurt me emotionally and it hurt my pride. No man wants to lose his woman, much less losing her to your worst enemy in a very public way. Every time I see her it takes everything in me not to grab her and put the Iron Claw on her and make her hurt the way she hurt me, but that's not the way my father raised me. My father raised me that no matter what a woman does you just don't put your hands on her. So the only way I can hurt her is by hurting Tully and making her watch me do it. Steve Stack: Just a minute ago you said you should have never left Dallas to come to San Antonio. When you finish your tour of Japan do you intend to come back her to Southwest Championship Wrestling or go back to Dallas? David Von Erich: You know Steve Stack, I have thought a lot about that. I thought that after beating Tully Blanchard and sending him out of Texas, that I won't have anything left to do here. But something Tully said earlier made me realize I will still have some unfinished business here. I don't want to go down in history as having a less than 2 hour reign as the Southwest Heavyweight Champion. So when I come back from Japan I will be coming back here to Southwest Championship Wrestling. And whether it's Mr. Saito or someone else I plan on setting my sights on that belt and I want to be break Tully's record as the longest reigning champion. Steve Stack: Well I'm glad to hear that you'll be coming back here and I know the fans will as well. We're about out of time on the program so I'd like to just give you the time to make any last comments you'd like to make about the Loser Leaves Texas match. David Von Erich: This whole feud between myself and Tully Blanchard started inside a Steel Cage so it's only fitting that it end there as well. And I'm going to see to it that it ends in a perfect bookend. It started with me having my head slammed inside the door of that cage and being stretchered out of the arena with Sunshine crying over my body. And that's exactly how I plan for this Steel Cage match to end. With Tully's head being slammed inside the Steel Cage door and Sunshine crying over his body as he gets carried out of the arena. I hope he will be able to find himself a nice place outside of Texas to recuperate in because he won't be able to do it inside the state. David Von Erich leaves the interview area Steve Stack: Well fans there you have it! David Von Erich says he is going to end the battle with Tully Blanchard in the same way that it started and I don't doubt that he will do it if he has the chance. We're out of time on today's program and I have to tell you that you better buy your tickets right now for this Sunday at the HemisFair Arena because if there has ever been a guarantee of a sell out it's this week. The Loser Leaves Texas Death Match inside a Steel Cage is surely the biggest match that's ever taken place inside the HemisFair Arena and you are not going to be one of the people who gets turned away at the door because there are no tickets left. Make sure to join us again here next week for more Southwest Championship Wrestling, so long everybody! Scheduled for Sunday, January 29th at the HemisFair Arena in San Antonio, TX Loser Leaves Texas Death Match inside a Steel Cage: David Von Erich vs. Tully Blanchard w/Sunshine Southwest Team Titles: Pat Rose & Ron Sexton vs. The Fabulous Ones No Disqualification, Southwest Heavyweight Title: El Gran Apollo vs. Mr. Saito Ron Starr vs. Roy Lee Welch Southwest Television Title: Tiger Conway Jr. vs. Mike Masters The Grapplers vs. Mike Jackson & Tony Torres Vic Rain vs. El Bracero -

Southwest Championship Wrestling @ San Antonio, TX - The HemisFair Arena 1/22/84 Man Mountain Link & Tiny Anderson vs. Mike Jackson & Tony Torres - Tiny Anderson argued with his brother Link before the match about who would start. Link finally let Tiny start the match against Tony Torres. Anderson started by faking a handshake and then hitting Torres with a cheap shot. Anderson beat on Torres a bit before whipping him into the corner and running in after him but Tony Torres took a page out of Mike Jackson's playbook and bounced off the second rope and turned around with a crossbody and pinned Tiny Anderson for a very quick victory. Winners: Mike Jackson and Tony Torres in 1:12 after Tony Torres pinned Tiny Anderson following a turnaround crossbody Tiny Anderson got up looking embarrassed while Man Mountain Link just stepped down off the apron and went back to the locker room not even looking at his brother Southwest Television Title: Roy Lee Welch vs. Mike Masters w/Jim Holliday - Now that Masters had regained the TV Title he went back to his tactics of stalling and avoiding contact. Masters managed to avoid contact with Roy Lee Welch for almost the first 5 minutes of the match before Welch got sick of Masters running away from him and goaded him into the middle of the ring by offering to allow Masters to put the Full Nelson on him. Masters took the bait but as he started to hook in the Full Nelson, Welch used the roll up counter on him that he employed to win the TV Title off him before. Masters managed to kick out just before the 3 count however and then rolled out of the ring. Welch went out after him and chased Masters around the ring when Jim Holliday stepped in his path. Welch bowled over Holliday but then Masters turned around and decked him with a big clothesline. Masters picked Welch up and dropped him throat first over the guard rail and then got back in the ring just as Carl Fergie got to the 8 count. Fergie started his count over on Roy Lee Welch as the fans at ringside urged Welch to get back up and get in the ring. Welch staggered back up and managed to get back in the ring just before Fergie counted 10. Masters immediately started stomping on Welch as he rolled back in the ring and then scooped him up and slammed him down with a hard bodyslam. Masters flexed and mocked Roy Lee Welch and then got ready to drop an elbow on him but Welch rolled out of the way. Masters got up angry and tried again for an elbow drop but Welch rolled out of the way a second time. Welch and Masters got back to their feet at the same time and Masters came charging at Welch and got taken down with a drop toe hold. Welch then tried to put the Spinning Toe Hold on Mike Masters but got kicked off and went staggering backwards into the corner. Masters got up and charged at Welch in the corner but Welch dodged out of the way and Masters went hard into the turnbuckles. Welch then monkey flipped Masters out of the corner and went for the Spinning Toe Hold again and this time he managed to get it on! Masters screamed in pain as Jim Holliday urged him not to give up as the ring announcer had already announced there was only 30 seconds left in the match. Masters looked about ready to give up when the bell suddenly rang and the match was declared a time limit draw. Result: Time limit draw in 10 minutes Goldie Rogers & Timothy Flowers w/Jim Holliday vs. Steve Pardee & Larry Hamilton - Pardee & Hamilton out wrestled Rogers & Flowers throughout the match while Rogers & Flowers had to resort to underhanded tactics to gain any kind of advantage. After a lot of back and forth action, Steve Pardee had Goldie Rogers set up for a Bulldog when Timothy Flowers ran in and clotheslined him. Larry Hamilton ran in to defend his partner and this led to all four men in the ring. While Carl Fergie was busy trying to restore order and get Hamilton & Flowers out of the ring, Jim Holliday jumped on the apron and hit Steve Pardee from behind. Pardee turned around and nailed Holliday, knocking him off the apron but Goldie Rogers took advantage of Pardee's back being turned and came crashing into Pardee with a knee to his back and then hit him with the Hollywood Blockbuster neckbreaker and pinned him to win the match. Winners: Goldie Rogers & Timothy Flowers in 10:44 after Rogers pinned Steve Pardee following interference from Jim Holliday Southwest Heavyweight Title: El Gran Apollo vs. Mr. Saito - Saito attacks Apollo before the bell and stays all over him for the first few minutes of the match just blasting him with chops and kicks. Saito throws Apollo out of the ring and then keeps blocking him from getting back inside, knocking him off the apron and kicking him through the ropes. Finally Apollo grabs Saito's leg and yanks him off his feet and then drags Saito to the corner where he slams Saito's leg off of the steel ring post. Apollo comes back inside and starts working on Saito's leg, even putting Saito in his own kneeling figure four hold. Saito eventually gets to the ropes to break the hold and rolls outside the ring to shake the leg out and try and regain mobility. Apollo doesn't allow him any respite however as he dives through the ropes out after Saito and then rolls him back in the ring. Apollo climbs to the top rope and sets himself for the Top Rope Crossbody but Saito ducks out of the way at the last second and Apollo flies into referee Jack Howe instead! Apollo tries to help Jack Howe back to his feet while Saito goes outside the ring and grabs the Southwest Heavyweight Title. As Saito gets back in the ring, Apollo turns around only to get smacked in the head by the Southwest belt! Saito throws the title back outside the ring as Jack Howe starts to get back up. Saito covers Apollo but Jack Howe makes a slow count due to being groggy and Apollo is able to kick out before the count of 3! Saito starts to argue with Jack Howe about his slow count and then turns around right into a small package from El Gran Apollo! Saito kicks out at two though and gets up furious as he starts chopping and pounding on Apollo. Saito tries to throw a kick at Apollo but Apollo grabs it and yanks Saito off hAis feet and goes back to working on his leg. This time Apollo puts Saito in a standard figure four and Saito makes another long slow effort to get himself into the ropes. Apollo breaks the hold only to pull Saito back towards the center of the ring and starts to set him up for the figure four again but Saito manages to rake Apollo's eyes to get Apollo of of him. Saito gets up badly hobbled and starts chopping at Apollo again. Saito tries for a gutwrench suplex on Apollo but his leg gives out and Apollo lands on top of him for a pin but Saito kicks out just before the count of 3. Saito tries to roll away from Apollo but Apollo grabs his injured leg and pulls him back towards the center of the ring and starts to set him up for another figure four but Saito kicks him in the ass as he's spinning around and Apollo goes flying forward and through the ropes to the outside of the ring. Saito hobbles back to a standing base, only really able to stand on one foot. Apollo climbs back up to the apron and Saito tries to fight him off and keep him from getting back in the ring but Apollo fights back with forearms and gains re-entry into the ring. Saito tries to attack Apollo with chops but Apollo's forearms prove to be stronger as he gets the better of the striking battle. Apollo shoves Saito into the corner and starts hammering him with more forearms. Referee Jack Howe steps in and gets Apollo back to try and let Saito out of the corner but Apollo goes right back in and starts pounding on Saito some more. Saito looks to be pretty much out of the fight with his bad leg and the forearms knocking him loopy as Jack Howe once again gets in front of Apollo and backs him off of Saito. Saito sees Apollo coming at him again and spits in Apollo's face which sets Apollo off as he just starts unloading with forearms on Saito again. Jack Howe tries to step in again but Apollo shoves him aside and just keeps hammering on Saito with forearms. Jack Howe gets back up and tries to pull Apollo out of the corner only for Apollo to grab him and toss him half way across the ring this time. Apollo has Saito out on his feet as he just continues to pound on him with forearms but when Jack Howe gets back up he calls for the bell and disqualified El Gran Apollo! Winner and STILL Southwest Heavyweight Champion: Mr. Saito by disqualification in 16:29 after Apollo tossed referee Jack Howe across the ring Apollo doesn't let up on his assault until a bunch of other wrestlers run out to the ring and pull him off of Mr. Saito who is totally out of it. Apollo storms away from ringside with wrestlers trying to calm him down as referees Jack Howe and Carl Fergie then have to help Mr. Saito out of the ring and back to the locker room The Iraqi Special Forces vs. Jim Duggan & Ron Starr - The Iraqi Special Forces came out first in all black bodysuits and black masks. Jim Duggan then came out to the ring alone and stood in the aisle facing The Iraqi Special Forces when suddenly Ron Starr came out of the crowd and stood behind them on the opposite side of the ring. Duggan rushed into the ring and attacked the two masked men as Ron Starr came in from the other side and suddenly helped The Iraqi Special Forces attack Jim Duggan! Duggan tried to fight off all three men but eventually fell victim to the numbers game. The Iraqi Special Forces held Duggan in position as Ron Starr backed off and then came rushing in with a big running knee lift that took Duggan down. Ron Starr then climbed to the top rope as the masked men held Duggan's arm out. Ron Starr then came off the top with a big knee drop onto Duggan's arm. Ron went up to the top again and came off with another knee drop onto Duggan's arm. Starr started to climb to the top rope a third time when suddenly Tiger Conway Jr, Steve Pardee, Larry Hamilton, Mike Jackson, Tony Torres, Roy Lee Welch and Man Mountain Link ran out and chased the three attackers off. Jim Duggan then had to be helped back to the locker room with his right arm hanging limp by his side and possibly broken. Result: No contest as Ron Starr turned on Jim Duggan before the match even started Winner picks stipulations for next week's Loser Leaves Texas match: David Von Erich vs. Tully Blanchard w/Sunshine - Both men came out of the gate swinging as they both wanted to win to ensure they got their desired stipulations for next week's match. David got the best of the brawl but Tully managed to get in a cheap shot as referee Carl Fergie was trying to get in between both men and have them open up their fists. Tully then raked David's eyes and started choking him on the ropes but made sure to break before a 5 count to avoid disqualification. Tully kept control for a bit and focused his attack on David's right hand, using every shortcut he could to maintain his advantage until David was able a punch from Tully and come back with one of his own. David and Tully had another punch exchange with David again getting the better of it. Tully tried to bail out of the ring and get away from David but David was right on his heels and attacked him outside the ring. Sunshine tried to shield Tully but David picked her up and moved her out of the way but as David turned his back on Tully to do that, Tully attacked him which caused David to drop Sunshine on the floor of the HemisFair Arena. Tully tried to get back in the ring as he realized that Carl Fergie had gotten to the count of 8 but David grabbed him as he got on the apron and pulled him back down. David then tried to get in at the count of 9 but Tully stopped him and both men were then counted out. Result: Double count out in 6:09 After the match David and Tully kept fighting at ringside and Carl Fergie and Jack Howe couldn't stop them. The brawl around the ring continued for a few minutes before nearly the entire locker room had to come out and separate David & Tully Masks vs Southwest Tag Team Titles: The Assassins vs. The Fabulous Ones - The Fabs totally dominated the early going of the match and made The Assassins looks like fools. After almost 10 minutes of just being totally in control of the match Stan Lane went for the Russian Legsweep on Assassin #1 when suddenly Assassin #2 ran in and blasted Stan Lane in the fact with his running boot. Steve Keirn tried to rush in and attack Assassin #2 but Jack Howe held him back and while that was going on Assassin #2 pulled his partner to the corner and The Assassins made an illegal switch. Assassin #2 tried to pin Stan Lane but he was able to kick out before the 3 count and then The Assassins went to work on Lane. The Assassins kept Lane in their corner and made frequent tags to be able to keep double teaming him but Lane kept kicking out of their pin attempts or was saved by Steve Keirn running in and breaking up the pin. With The Assassins being unable to keep Lane down, they got desperate and Assassin #1 pulled something out of his trunks and loaded it into his mask. Assassin #2 held Lane from behind while Assassin #1 went for a headbutt but Lane was able to duck out of the way at the last second and Assassin #1 headbutted his partner instead. Assassin #2 fell off the apron to the arena floor and Stan Lane managed to dive into his corner and make the tag to Steve Keirn! Assassin #1 tried to headbutt Keirn as he came charging in but Keirn kicked him in the gut and then slammed Assassin #1's head into the turnbuckle! Assassin #1 staggered around while Keirn bounced off the ropes and then came in with a huge Flying Forearm and then pinned Assassin #1 to win the match! Winners and STILL Southwest Tag Team Champions: The Fabulous Ones in 19:04 after Steve Keirn pinned Assassin #1 following a Flying Forearm After the match the referee tried to get Assassin #1 to unmask but he refused and shoved him away. The Fabs tried to attack him and take his mask off of him but Assassin #2 jumped in to help his partner and Assassin #1 took the opportunity to escape the ring. The ring announcer got on the mic and said that if The Assassins refused to unmask they would not only be barred from wrestling in Southwest Championship Wrestling but all of the AWA. Assassin #1 walked back to the locker room with his mask still on but Assassin #2 stayed in the ring and took off his mask, leaving the mask in the middle of the ring as he walked back to the dressing room. His identity was unknown to the fans in the arena as he'd never been in the Southwest area before unmasked but surely his identity will be revealed on the next episode of Southwest Championship Wrestling TV. -
It was just a joke since about half the main events in Southwest ended like that, not mocking your use of it or anything.
-
A main event ending with Sunshine hitting someone with her purse? Sounds like some real nonsense to me.

Southwest Championship Wrestling 1983 - The continuation

Taped at The Junction in San Antonio, TX on 1/16 Southwest Championship Wrestling airing on Saturday 1/21 in local markets -Show intro- Steve Stack: Welcome to another edition of Southwest Championship Wrestling, the most exciting hour in all of professional wrestling! We've got a lot of things to get to in this hour just like ever week on Southwest Championship Wrestling as 1984 is already looking to be the hottest year ever in the Southwest area. Earlier in the week the AWA President Stanley Blackburn signed two huge matches and we'll be talking about them both here on the program. I've also been told that there is a lot of talent trying to make their way here to the Southwest area and that within the next few weeks we can expect to see some brand new faces and some wrestlers returning to the area who have not been here in quite some time, including someone who will be in action here on television today that I know the fans here in The Junction are going to be happy to see! Right now we've got to take a commercial break but when we come back I am going to talk to Tully Blanchard about one of those two huge matches I alluded to as he is going to give us his thoughts on the monumental Loser Leaves Texas match between Tully and David Von Erich that will take place Sunday January 29th at the HemisFair Arena! So don't go away I know you're going to want to hear more about that! -First commercial break- Sunshine: Welcome back to Southwest Championship Wrestling and right now you have the pleasure of looking at the power couple of professional wrestling, I'm Sunshine, the woman who should be the host of this program, and this is my man, the man who had the longest reign as Southwest Heavyweight Champion in history, The Texas Dynasty himself, Tully Blanchard! Tully Blanchard: What a great introduction Sunshine, much better than Steve Stack could ever do. It's a shame they keep him around as the host of this show when you could do such a better job, but at least we know that Southwest is paying you a lot more than him. Steve Stack: What does that mean Tully? I assumed Sunshine was being paid for her valet services by you. Tully Blanchard: Well you know what they say about what happens when you assume Steve Stack but everyone knows you're one of those anyway. No Steve Stack Sunshine is not paid by me, she is officially employed by Southwest Championship Wrestling for her services as a MANAGER not a valet what a sexist thing for you to say. And I know what she gets paid by the promotion and I would imagine she's the highest paid manager in professional wrestling. Steve Stack: Well being the son of the promoter obviously has it's perks seeing as how managers are almost always paid by the clients that they represent and not the promotion they work in. Tully Blanchard: I resent that implication Steve Stack! My father just happens to be a smart man who knows the value of having the most beautiful and intelligent woman in wrestling right here in Southwest Championship Wrestling. But I'm certain we aren't out here to talk about who does or doesn't employ Sunshine. I know you wanted me to talk about the Loser Leaves Texas match between myself and David Von Erich that is going to take place next Sunday night at the HemisFair Arena. Steve Stack: That's true, that is what I wanted to talk to you about. You and David Von Erich both wanted a Loser Leaves match to be signed but were unable to come to terms on just what the other stipulations of that match would be. So THIS Sunday you two will be wrestling to determine who gets to pick the rest of the stipulations of that Loser Leaves Texas match. Tully Blanchard: That's right Steve Stack, I wanted a Texas Death Match so I can prove that I'm the Texas Dynasty not just by getting rid of David Von Erich but also beating him in the most definitive way possible. But David is too afraid to wrestle me in a Texas Death match and wanted some other kind of match, who knows what kind. Maybe he just wants a flower picking contest since he's got some sissy nickname like the Yellow Rose of Texas. Steve Stack: Actually I'm quite familiar with the situation and I know that David Von Erich wanted the match to take place inside a Steel Cage because he wants to make sure the match is only between you and him and that Sunshine will not get involved. Tully Blanchard: I don't care what David wants! I'm going to beat him this Sunday night to make sure that we fight in a Texas Death match and then next Sunday night I'm going to beat him in that Texas Death match and finally get him out of MY state once and for all! Now I've had just about enough of you that I can stand for the day Steve Stack, I'll leave you to do your usual inadequate job of hosting this show, come on Sunshine! Tully and Sunshine leave the interview area Steve Stack: Now I'm going to bring in two men who are set for action in our first match of the day, the brother tag team of Man Mountain Link Anderson and Tiny Anderson. Steve Stack: Thanks for coming out to talk to me before your match. Link a couple of weeks ago we saw you in a 3 on 1 handicap match at the HemisFair Arena where you quickly dominated your competition but lately when you've been teaming with your brother Tiny you've been unable to find any real success as a team. Do you have any thoughts on what you and Tiny have been having such a rough patch lately? Tiny Anderson: I'll answer for my younger brother. Every wrestler and every tag team goes through slumps and this is just a slump for us but - Man Mountain Link: I'm not in any slump! I'm as good as I've ever been but somebody on this team doesn't want to listen me and it's been costing us matches. Tiny Anderson: All you want to do is act like every one of our tag team matches is a handicap match! You don't even want to tag me in anymore I have to tag myself in! Link: Maybe that has something to do with you losing every one of our matches. Tiny: So that's it? You think you're better me than me? You don't need me any more? Ok so you just go prove how much better you are because I'm not going to the ring to team with you today, you go down there by yourself. Tiny Anderson walks off from the interview area Link: Hey Tiny come back here! Look I didn't mean that! You're my brother, I want you as my partner! Steve Stack: Well he's gone Link and you've got your opponents already waiting in the ring it seems like you're either going to have to go it alone or forfeit. Link: I'm not forfeiting anything Steve Stack, I can handle those two chumps in the ring all by myself. Man Mountain Link heads down to the ring Steve Stack: Well it looks like our first match of the day just turned from a tag team match into a handicap match, let's go down to the ring now where Man Mountain Link is getting ready to take on Snake Brown and Paul Peller! Steve Stack: That couldn't have taken him more than 30 seconds to dispatch of both opponents! I wonder if he and Tiny Anderson will be able to have that same kind of success this Sunday night as a tag team when they take on the team of Mike Jackson and Tony Torres. Speaking of tag team action, when we come back we've got a video paid for by Sheik Adnan al-Kaissie that will announce the next tag team he is sending to the HemisFair Arena this Sunday night to take on 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan and 'Rugged' Ron Starr and we'll hear Jim Duggan's response to it so don't touch that dial! -Second commercial break- Steve Stack: Well fans you just heard what Sheik Adnan had to say and it would appear that there is at least some truth to what he had to say in regards to Ron Starr as he is not here in The Junction today. Jim Duggan: No, Ron Starr is not here in The Junction today but I know 100% that he will be in the HemisFair Arena this Sunday night. Ron Starr called me early Monday morning and told me he had a family emergency and had to head back to Alabama to take care of some things but he also told me that he would be back by Sunday night and that I could count on him if Geek Adnan sent more mercenaries to fight us. Ron Starr has proven to me that he is a man of his word so if he told me I could count on him to be there for me, he's going to be there. Steve Stack: So you know that Ron Starr will be your partner Sunday night, but it would seem that you have no idea who your opponents are going to be. I thought I knew of every tag team in the world of professional wrestling but I have to admit I've never heard of The Iraqi Special Forces. Jim Duggan: Neither have I Steve Stack, but that doesn't worry me. I don't know if these guys are actually special forces, if they're actually Iraqi, if they're professional wrestlers or whether they even exists. All I know is that I plan to show up to the HemisFair Arena this Sunday night and beat up whoever gets in the ring with me! Steve Stack: Well you haven't failed to do that yet Jim Duggan and I certainly wouldn't bet against you doing it this Sunday night either, I just hope Ron Starr will be there as your partner. Jim Duggan: Take it from me Steve Stack, I know he will be and the fans can count on seeing us beat up Geek Adnan's goons like we've been doing for weeks now. Jim Duggan leaves the interview area Steve Stack: Earlier in the program I talked about two big matches having been signed and earlier we discussed the Loser Leaves Texas match set to take place next Sunday night between Tully Blanchard and David Von Erich. Now I'd like to bring out one of the teams involved in the other big match that was signed, a match that will take places this Sunday night as my next guests, The Fabulous Ones, will put their Southwest Tag Team Titles on the line against the masks of The Assassins! Steve Stack: Last Sunday night we saw you two defeat The Assassins in a Texas Tornado Street Fight and I thought that was going to be the last time we'd see you two wrestle for a while but it appears The Assassins demanded a rematch and Stanley Blackburn said they had to put up something of value to receive another title match after losing the Texas Tornado Street Fight and that's how it came to be that their masks are going to be on the line this Sunday night. What are your thoughts about facing The Assassins in this kind of match where they will be more desperate than ever to win as we know just how important those masks are to them. Stan Lane: What's to be afraid of Steve Stack? The Assassin comes out here and talks tough but when the going gets tough, he runs just like he and his partner ran from the fight last Sunday night. We didn't even get a chance to properly beat them as they just high tailed it for the locker room once they realized they couldn't beat us. Steve Keirn: We told them they couldn't beat us in a Street Fight and we proved it to them last Sunday night. Now we thought that might give them a wake up call that they're just no match for The Fabs but apparently they didn't quite get the hint. But that's fine with us because we know that once we beat them this Sunday night and take their masks to show those ugly faces of theirs, The Assassins will be finished and we won't ever have to worry about them again. Steve Stack: It does seem strange to me that The Assassin would allow those stipulations after what he said last week about how important the mask was to him and how they were unable to defeat you in the Texas Tornado Street Fight but I suppose that was the only way he could get another match against you. Stan Lane: Desperate men do desperate things Steve Stack and The Assassins knew that their time was up and that there's a long line of tag teams waiting for their title shot against us. But those teams won't have to wait much longer because this Sunday night we're going to get rid of The Assassins for good after we expose their faces to the world and we're going to be ready to take on all comers. Steve Stack: You're certainly right about there being a long line of teams wanting a title shot against you as I know there is a very successful tag team getting ready to come into the area after them but that's something I can't talk about until next week. Steve Keirn: Well we aren't going to sweat them or any other tag team because we know we're the toughest tag team out there and after we beat every team that Stanley Blackburn can line up against us he isn't going to have any choice but to give us an AWA World Tag Team Title shot against The Rod Warriors. Steve Stack: That would certainly be one heck of a match to see, The Road Warriors might have something to say about you two calling yourselves the toughest tag team in the world. Stan Lane: They can say all they want about it, but what can they do about it? We're ready to back it up in the ring any time they want to come here and defend those belts. Steve Stack: I know I would definitely love to see that match myself but I wouldn't start looking too far ahead if I were you, you've still got to get past The Assassins this Sunday night. Steve Keirn: Look, we know The Assassins are tough, we know they are going to do everything they can to keep those masks but the saving grace is that Stanley Blackburn said that if The Assassins are disqualified they lose the masks just like we'll lose the titles if we're disqualified. The Assassins can't afford to get TOO desperate or they'll get disqualified and without the ability to cheat us they can't beat us. The Fabs leave the interview area Steve Stack: I hope you're right about that, it would certainly be quite an event to see The Assassins finally unmasked. Fans make sure to buy your tickets for the HemisFair Arena this Sunday night because you'll want to be in attendance for one of the most historic nights in wrestling if The Assassins truly do have to take those masks off. Right now we've got to take a commercial break but when we come back we are going to be talking to The Assassins about that match and we're going to see the return to the Southwest area of a very popular wrestler so don't go away because we'll be right back! -Third Commercial Break- Steve Stack: Welcome back to Southwest Championship Wre- The Assassin: Stop right there Steve Stack! Before you say another word I want to know just what the heck you were talking about out here just a minute ago. Why are you talking about our masks being on the line against The Fabulous Ones!? Steve Stack: What are YOU talking about? The contract was signed earlier in the week, I was in the office when your partner came in and negotiated the terms to get another title match with The Fabulous Ones. The Assassin: My partner!? I never agreed to put my mask on the line! I didn't know anything about it until 5 minutes ago when you were talking to The Fabulous Ones! How can my partner sign a contract for me to put MY mask on the line!? I gave him that mask! He didn't spend the last 25 years making this black and yellow mask the most famous mask in wrestling, he isn't the one who built it's reputation, who made it so when a man sees this mask standing across the ring from him he knows he has to fear for his health! How could you sign a contract for this mask behind my back!? How could you betray me like this!? Assassin #2: I didn't betray you I - The Assassin: Don't say another word! Get out of here, go back to the locker room, I'll say what I have to say to you without any cameras around! Assassin #2 looks like he's about to speak again but then turns around and leaves the interview area The Assassin: Fabulous Ones, you might think you've got an advantage going into our match this Sunday night but that couldn't be further from the truth. This mask is my LIFE! You have no idea the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into making this mask mean what it means in this sport. You will never and I mean NEVER take it away from me. Fabulous Ones, when you come to the ring Sunday night you better be prepared to kill me because I swear to God the only way you will take this mask off my head is over my cold dead body! The Assassin leaves the interview area Steve Stack: Fans I apologize for what The Assassin just said, clearly he is not in his right mind after finding out that apparently his mask was put on the line behind his back. My next guest is a man who also has a lot on the line this Sunday night as he'll be taking on Tully Blanchard to decide what the stipulations will be in next week's Loser Leaves Texas match against Tully Blanchard, he is the Yellow Rose of Texas: David Von Erich! Steve Stack: David welcome to the program. Next Sunday night you'll be facing Tully Blanchard in what looks to be the final battle between you as the loser will be forced to leave the state of Texas. But before you get there you'll be meeting this week in a match that will determine just who gets to decide the stipulations of that penultimate match. Is is true that you want to face Tully inside a Steel Cage next week, and if so, why? David Von Erich: It's true Steve Stack, I want to fight Tully in a Steel Cage when we have our Loser Leaves Texas match. Not just because it will keep Sunshine and whoever else Tully might decide to find to help him out of the ring, but because this whole thing with Tully and myself started in a Steel Cage. Tully slammed the door to the steel cage on my head three months ago and ended our partnership. And now I want to end this fight right here it began, inside a Steel Cage. And maybe I can repay the favor and slam Tully's head inside in that steel cage door and send him out of Texas in an ambulance. Steve Stack: I don't wish that kind of injury on any man but if anyone has it coming to them it's Tully after all the things he's done to you over the past few months. But we both know how resourceful Tully is, this is a man who held the Southwest Heavyweight Title for over 6 months with seemingly everyone in the state gunning for him and you know with his back against the wall he's got to have some kind of plot or plan to make sure that you're the one who has to leave the state. David Von Erich: Of course i know that Steve Stack. That's why I got Stanley Blackburn to make the match this week, because I refused to face Tully in a Loser Leaves Texas match without an assurance that he couldn't bring in someone to help him like he used Killer Khan and Mr. Saito. The Steel Cage is going to be the great equalizer and it's what is going to assure my victory and Tully's exit from MY state of Texas. If you notice Steve Stack, when I'm not getting hit in the head with a loaded purse my record against Tully is pretty good. I've beaten him two weeks in a row now. They say the 3rd time is the charm but in this case the 3rd time will only get me the Cage match, the fourth time will be the charm because it's going to be the one that gets rid of Tully for good! David leaves the interview area Steve Stack: Well I hope for David's sake he does win this week and get that Cage match or who knows what kind of plan Tully will have concocted for a Texas Death Match where anyone could run out and interfere in the match. But right now it's time to reveal the surprise I talked about earlier in the show as we're about to send it down to the ring where Mike Fever is getting ready to take on a man making his return to the Southwest area after a long absence, a man I know the fans are going to be happy to see back: Tiger Conway Jr! Steve Stack: Tiger Conway Jr. looks to be in even better shape than the last time we saw him here in Southwest Championship Wrestling! I'm glad to see him back here in the area and I'm sure we're going to be seeing much of him in the weeks to come! Right now we've got to take a time out for our sponsors but don't go away because when we come back we're going to talk to El Gran Apollo about his rematch for the Southwest Heavyweight Title against Mr. Saito and we've also get Ken Lucas and Eddie Gilbert back here in The Junction as Ken Lucas wanted time to apologize for what happened last week on the program. Don't go away we'll be right back! -Fourth Commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back on Southwest Championship Wrestling and with me now is the number one contender for the Southwest Heavyweight Title, one of the hottest young stars in professional wrestling: El Gran Apollo! Apollo last Sunday night we saw you defeat Mr. Saito by disqualification after Saito threw referee Carl Fergie out of the ring but right before Carl Fergie recovered and called for the disqualification we saw you hit Mr. Saito with your big Top Rope Crossbody and it looked like you were well on your way to pinning Mr. Saito and taking the Southwest Title. What are your thoughts about facing Mr. Saito again this Sunday night? Apollo: I think this time is the time I take the belt and become the champion for all my people. Everyone who saw my match last Sunday know I have Mr. Saito beat and if the referee count the pin instead of disqualify Saito then I would be the champ now. But I don't get angry at the referee because I know I have another match and this time I don't let Saito get disqualify, I will beat him and be the new Southwest Champion. El Gran Apollo leaves the interview area Steve Stack: Alright fans last week on the show I invited Ken Lucas and Eddie Gilbert on to talk about the incident a month ago where Ricky Morton had his career ended from a piledriver on the concrete floor by Eddie Gilbert and how it's led to both Ken Lucas and Eddie Gilbert to talk about retiring from professional wrestling. I thought that having them talk to each other might lead one or both of them to reconsider their decision to retire but instead it led to Ken Lucas attacking Eddie Gilbert when Gilbert said he only came on the program because he thought Ken Lucas was going to apologize to him. That was not at all the result that I was expecting and I had planned to just leave the issue alone but Ken Lucas called me and begged me to have him back on the program and to invite Eddie Gilbert so he could apologize to him so I've done so and both men are here in The Junction today so let me first bring out Ken Lucas so he can say what he'd like to say. Ken Lucas comes out to the interview area Ken Lucas: First Steve Stack let me thank you for letting me come back on the program after the way I acted last week. It was not at all my intention to get in a fight out here but when Eddie Gilbert said he wanted me to apologize for being the one who caused all the problems it just really set me off and I couldn't control myself. So Steve Stack first let me apologize to you for doing that after you gave me time to talk to Eddie on the program. And now Eddie I know you're in the back so I'd like you to come out here now so I can apologize to you face to face, man to man. Eddie Gilbert comes out to the interview area Eddie Gilbert: I'm here Ken Lucas, go ahead and say what you have to say. Ken Lucas: Eddie I know I was wrong for what I did last week. I know I had no right to put my hands on you after I asked you to come back here to talk to me. I know that I embarrassed you by slapping you on TV and I want to apologize to you in front of everyone who saw me do it. It wasn't right for me to put my hands on you and I can only ask you to forgive me and then let me say what I really came here to say to you last week. Eddie Gilbert: Well Ken you're right you did embarrass me last week by slapping me around. I know you think I'm just some kid because you met me when I was almost just a baby back when you were teaming with my Dad. But just because I'm a lot younger than you doesn't make me a kid, I am a 22 year old MAN and I deserve to be treated with more respect than how you treated me last week. Ken Lucas: You're right Eddie, I have been thinking of you as a kid because that's always how I've known you. But that was wrong of me and I realize you're a lot older now than when I first met you. I know that you've been wrestling almost 5 years now and you're a grown man and from now on I am going to treat you like a man. Eddie Gilbert: Well Ken I think it's a little late for that but they say better late than never so I will accept your apology. Ken Lucas: Thank you Eddie. Now I didn't get the chance to tell you this last week but what I really invited you here to tell you is that I don't want you to quit on your career. You're only 22 years old, you have such a bright future ahead of yourself in this sport and it would be a real shame to see you just throw it away. What you did to Ricky Morton was wrong, we both know that, but you can't make it right by walking away. I want you to come back to wrestling, whether it be here in Southwest or back in your home state of Tennessee or wherever. You've barely scratched the surface of what you can achieve in professional wrestling and I know it was your dream all of your life. Don't give up on it. Eddie Gilbert: Ken I've given it a whole lot of thought and I just don't think it would be right for me to keep on wrestling when Ricky Morton can't. You say that it was always my dream to be a professional wrestler and that's true. But I grew up around Ricky Morton, his Dad is a referee in Tennessee and I used to see him around the matches when we were both just kids. We used to talk about how we'd both grow up to be wrestlers and we even talked about how we'd be tag team partners together. Things didn't quite work out that way though....I took away his dream. Ken Lucas: Eddie please don't retire. If you can't wrestle for yourself do it for Ricky Morton. The man is going to need help, his career is over, he has no livelihood now you can try to make it right by sending him part of the money you make in the wrestling business. Or if you can't do it for Ricky, do it for me. I don't have any sons, you and Ricky were like the sons I never had. I tried to teach both of you everything I know about this sport and now with the doctors telling Ricky he can never wrestle again, you've all I got to keep my legacy alive. Eddie GIlbert: I don't know Ken....I just don't know if I can ever make it feel right. Ken Lucas: I can't tell you what to do or how to live your life. All I can do is try to give you advice and my advice to you is don't shut the door on being a wrestler. I've been watching you for a long time, I know that you can be one of the best there has ever been if you stick to it. But there's really nothing more I can say about this, I don't want to pressure you too much and make you angry with me. Right now the only thing I can do is extend my hand to you, ask you to forgive me for last week and let you know that no matter what you decide to do, I'll always be here for you. Eddie Gilbert: Thank you Ken. I don't know what I'm going to do but thank you for being a good friend to me. Ken Lucas extends his hand and Eddie reaches his hand out towards Ken's but suddenly kicks Ken in the stomach and starts pounding on him Steve Stack: Eddie stop it! Stop it Eddie! The man just apologized to you! Ken Lucas starts to fight back but Eddie kicks him in the groin and as Lucas is doubled over, Eddie grabs him and sets him up for a piledriver on the hard floor of the Junction. Eddie starts to pull Ken Lucas up when Steve Stack suddenly jumps in and grabs Ken Lucas' feet and pulls him back down. Eddie grabs Steve Stack by his tie and then shoves him down hard when suddenly a flood of wrestlers come out from the locker room and chase Eddie Gilbert away. The Fabulous Ones help Steve Stack back to his feet as Jim Duggan and Mike Jackson help Ken Lucas up. The show then suddenly goes to commercial -Fifth and final commercial break- Joe Blanchard: Fans welcome back to Southwest Championship Wrestling. I'm promoter Joe Blanchard and it's been a long time since I've hosted this show but Steve Stack is really shaken up after what just happened and the show must go on. We've got one more match to get to in the program but before we do I'd like to bring out one of the men who will be in that match, the Southwest Heavyweight Champion himself: Mr. Saito. Mr. Saito: Oh Joe Blanchard so nice to see you here. Is good because when I try to find you and tell you need to pay Saito more money because I the champion now I can never find you. Joe Blanchard: I can assure you that's NOT what this interview time is scheduled for. Instead I'd like to ask you why you assaulted referee Carl Fergie last week and how you plan to combat El Gran Apollo this week considering he looked to have you beaten after the Top Rope Crossbody that wasn't counted because you were already disqualified. Mr. Saito: That punk don't have nobody beat! He can't beat Mr. Saito! He lucky I get disqualified or I show everyone how weak he is when I break his neck with Saito Suplex! I don't have time for more question Joe Blanchard, is time for me go to the ring. When your son the Southwest Champion he never want wrestle on TV but Saito want all the people to see how good is the champion, they need see how Saito is number one and nobody can beat him. Mr. Saito heads down to the ring Joe Blanchard: Well fans I would have liked to ask Saito a little bit more about El Gran Apollo seeing as how the young man from Cuba seems to have his number, having defeated him the past two weeks in a row. But now let's head to the ring where Mr. Saito is getting ready to take on Jimmy Doo in a non-title match. Joe Blanchard: Mr. Saito didn't look like he wanted any part of tangling with El Gran Apollo but he's not going to have any choice this Sunday night at The HemisFair Arena! We're out of time on today's program, be sure to be there Sunday night at The HemisFair Arena to see The Assassins put up their masks against the Southwest Tag Team Titles of The Fabulous Ones, Tully Blanchard versus David Von Erich to decide the stipulations of next week's Loser Leaves Texas match, Jim Duggan and Ron Starr teaming against The Iraqi Special Forces and much more! And join us next week where hopefully Steve Stack will be back hosting this show. So long everybody! Scheduled for Sunday, January 21st at the HemisFair Arena in San Antonio, TX Masks vs Titles: The Assassins vs. The Fabulous Ones Winner picks stipulations for next week's Loser Leaves Texas match: David Von Erich vs. Tully Blanchard w/Sunshine Jim Duggan & Ron Starr vs. The Iraqi Special Forces Southwest Heavyweight Title: El Gran Apollo vs. Mr. Saito Goldie Rogers & Timothy Flowers w/Jim Holliday vs. Steve Pardee & Larry Hamilton Southwest Television Title: Roy Lee Welch vs. Mike Masters w/Jim Holliday Man Mountain Link & Tiny Anderson vs. Mike Jackson & Tony Torres -
Bruce, Matt D and shoe let me know what matches have been uploaded in the last 6 months or so that I need to watch first. I'm gonna watch everything Jose Lothario related that I haven't seen yet because it's Jose but any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been following this thread as much so the only match that I remember seeing as a big find was the Ricky Morton vs. Bockwinkel match.

Well times have certainly changed then if that's the case because now having the Vince seal of approval just means everyone hates you even if you're putting on the best matches in the company. Like political/social issues debates, how much do you want to put the blame for that on the rise of the more "quick hot take" nature of social/network media platforms that rose in the ensuing years? Twitter, Tumblr-esque gifs and memes, podcasts, YouTube channels, etc. Though to be fair, Kennedy/Anderson was presented as a guy who wasn't given the keys to the kingdom the way Reigns has, or seemingly fell into the business because of failures at other things (Cena/body building, Reigns/football). This has always been the absolute dumbest criticism of Reigns to me because there is an incredibly long list of wrestlers who didn't make big names in professional football but became huge stars in wrestling. I guess we should all hate The Rock, Butch Reed, Jim Duggan, Ron Simmons, etc etc etc now though since they didn't have lengthy All Pro careers in the NFL before getting into wrestling.

He wasn't good but this was during a weird time where everyone they bringing up through developmental was so identical, if you did anything different to stand out you were considered good. See also: Carlito. They have the entire year up now. I really loved that anniversary show they did in December that had the random appearances from Bastion Booger and Sunny. Much better than the terrible 2003 anniversary show. Funny you say that about Carlito because I almost mentioned him in that post as a guy in that same boat. But even though I never thought Carlito was all that good in the ring I thought he was a more interesting character than "all I do is say my name twice" Mr. Kennedy. At least around the time that he debuted and they were doing the whole "did Carlito stab John Cena?" deal.
-
Yea I'm really not sure how the whole Kennedy hype train even got started as I never thought the guy was all that good. If the angle had played out as planned as he'd have been the illegitimate McMahon I'm pretty sure that would have lead to a huge push for him and I'm quite glad that never happened.

I'm finally able to jump back into the NWA On Demand awesomeness and it should come as no surprise to anyone that this was the first match I watched with my new sub. Apollo was actually better here than I expected. He's certainly not Ricky Morton during his FIP work but his selling was much better than what I've seen from his Puerto Rico work, certainly better than the Barrabas match. His offense was better than I expected too especially the forearms. I know everybody likes to hate on Mil Mascaras but I've actually liked him in most of the Houston footage and this is no exception to that. I liked seeing the Dynamic Duo stooge for him a bit in the first fall especially the thing where he kind of teased Tully by letting him get so close to tag out while he had him in the hold just to pull him away. And yea, that weird Dragon Sleeper type hold was pretty boss. I liked Apollo chasing Tully around during the 2nd fall although it ended up kinda screwing up the finish as Apollo was right there to save his partner from being pinned but didn't. Apollo looked pretty good in the 3rd fall getting the crowd hyped for the hot tag and then looking good when he finally got in. This is either the best or 2nd best look we have of Apollo in an actual longish match (the other stuff being from Puerto Rico TV) and I feel pretty confident that he could have lived up to the stuff I've had him doing in fantasy Southwest. Not a bad hand when he isn't cosplaying Kevin Von Erich on one of the days he didn't want to sell at all. I didn't really hate the finish either as far as finishes from the 80s goes it wasn't all that bad. Well until they reversed the decision because that was pretty stupid. Enjoyed the Ken Lucas cameo and I plan on digging into his matches next.

That Benoit tribute episode will definitely NOT be getting put up.

Southwest Championship Wrestling @ San Antonio, TX - The HemisFair Arena 1/15/84 Larry Hamilton & Steve Pardee vs. Man Mountain Link and Tiny Anderson - Man Mountain Link starts against Larry Hamilton and Hamilton tries to take him down to the mat but the massive size and weight of Link make it impossible for Hamilton to use his AAU amateur wrestling skills against him. After trying a few more times to get Link down onto the mat, Hamilton tags out to Steve Pardee. Pardee tries his luck against Man Mountain Link but just keeps getting tossed away as he tries to work to get an arm bar on Link. Pardee tags back out to Larry Hamilton and the two of them charge at Link and try to knock him down with shoulder blocks but Link stands his ground and knocks down Pardee and Hamilton instead! Pardee rolls out of the ring and Link grabs Hamilton as he's trying to get back up. Link hoists Hamilton up on his shoulder and backs up to his corner as he sets up for a Running Powerslam but as Link gets to the corner, Tiny Anderson tags himself in. Link doesn't seem to realize that his brother tagged himself in as he hits the Running Powerslam and pins Hamilton but referee Jack Howe refuses to count. Link argues with Jack Howe as Howe tries to tell him that he's not the legal man and then Link sees his brother getting in the ring and starts arguing with him. Jack Howe finally ends the argument by threatening to disqualify Link for not leaving the ring and Link finally goes back to his corner. As Tiny turns back away from Link to go after Larry Hamilton, Hamilton pulls him into an Oklahoma Roll and pins him! Winners: Larry Hamilton and Steve Pardee in 6:19 when Hamilton pinned Tiny Anderson with an Oklahoma Roll Man Mountain Link looked disgusted after the match and just walked away from Tiny Anderson as Anderson tried to apologize to him Southwest Television Title: Mike Masters w/Jim Holliday vs. Roy Lee Welch - Mike Masters starts the match going hard after Roy Lee Welch, trying hard to avoid a repeat of last week's time limit draw. Masters can't get a hold of Welch though as Welch uses his speed advantage to avoid Masters. Welch ends up goading Masters into charging at him into the corner only to move at the last moment causing Masters to crash hard into the turnbuckles. Welch then starts to go to work on Masters' leg to soften him up for the Spinning Toe Hold. After a few minutes of working on Masters' leg, Welch has him in the middle of the ring and sets him up for the Spinning Toe Hold. Masters manages to fight it off for a bit but finally Welch is able to lock it in. Masters looks about ready to submit when Jim Holliday jumps up on the apron. As Carl Fergie goes over to get Holliday off the apron, Masters uses his free leg to kick Welch in the groin which forces Welch to break the Spinning Toe Hold. With Welch doubled over in pain, Masters scrambles to his feet and then locks him into the Full Nelson as Jim Holliday gets down off the apron and referee Carl Fergie turns back around. Welch valiantly tries to escape the Full Nelson or reach the ropes but Masters' strength advantage makes that impossible. Welch finally looks to pass out from the pain and Carl Fergie raises his hand and it falls 3 times, making Mike Masters the winnner. Winner and NEW Southwest Television Champion: Mike Masters in 7:43 after Roy Lee Welch passed out in the Full Nelson Pat Rose & Ron Sexton vs. Goldie Rogers & Timothy Flowers w/Jim Holliday - Ron Sexton & Goldie Rogers started out the match against each other and things started very slowly as both men tried to lure the other into their corner leading to not much action actually taking place. The crowd started to get restless and mock them as Jack Howe implored them to actually wrestle. Finally Ron Sexton managed to lure Goldie Rogers out of the corner by simply laying down on the mat. As Rogers charged at him, Sexton rolled closer to his corner where Pat Rose was able to grab Rogers as he was coming in and then Sexton & Rose took over on Rogers and started working him over. Jim Holliday was going nuts at ringside demanding that Rose & Sexton be disqualified for their double teaming but Rose & Sexton made sure to make quick tags in and out to keep resetting Jack Howe's 5 count. Flowers tried to rush in and help his partner but Jack Howe cut him off and while Flowers was arguing with the referee it just allowed Pat Rose & Ron Sexton more time to double team Rogers and make a switch without a tag. As Flowers got back in the corner and Jack Howe turned back to the action, Jim Holliday jumped up on the apron and argued with the referee about Rose & Sexton switching without a tag. As that was going on Flowers ran back in the ring and attacked Rose and threw him over the top rope behind Jack Howe's back. As Flowers was doing that however, Ron Sexton pulled out a chain and knocked Goldie Rogers out with it and covered him. Flowers turned around right after it happened and saw the chain on Ron Sexton's hand and tried to attack him but Pat Rose grabbed his feet from outside the ring and pulled him out. Ron Sexton put the chain back in his trunks and covered Goldie Rogers as Jack Howe finally got Jim Holliday off the apron by threatening to disqualify him and Jack Howe made the 3 count on Goldie Rogers who was knocked out from being hit with the chain. Winners: Pat Rose & Ron Sexton in 8:24 after Ron Sexton knocked out Goldie Rogers with a chain After the match Flowers told Jim Holliday about Ron Sexton knocking out Goldie Rogers with the chain and Holliday tried to get referee Jack Howe to check Ron Sexton for the chain but Pat Rose & Ron Sexton were already on their way back to the locker room Southwest Heavyweight Title: El Gran Apollo vs. Mr. Saito - Mr. Saito talks trash to Apollo at the sound of the bell, telling him that this time Jack Howe is not the referee so nobody will be making a fast count to help him win. Apollo responds by decking Mr. Saito with a big punch and then taking him over with an arm drag as Saito gets back up and charges at him. Apollo tries to work over Saito's arm but Saito is too strong and bulls his way into the ropes. Saito is furious about Apollo standing up to him and charges at him again only to get taken down with a drop toe hold and Apollo quickly gets on top of Saito and puts him in a headlock. Saito powers his way back up to his feet and shoves Apollo off into the ropes but Apollo ducks Saito's attempt to clothesline him and comes back with a crossbody that pins Saito and comes very close to getting a 3 count before Saito is able to kick out. Saito rolls out of the ring and starts having a fit before trying to calm himself back down. Saito gets back in the ring at the count of 9 and then bows to El Gran Apollo and asks for a handshake. Apollo doesn't trust Saito and refuses to shake hands as Saito continues to insist on it. Apollo looks to the crowd to see if he should shake Saito's hand which gives Saito the opening he wants to try to cheap shot him but Apollo dodges out of the way and Saito charges into the ropes and gets caught up awkwardly before Apollo drop kicks him in the back and sends Saito sprawling out to the floor. Saito looks about ready to blow a gasket as he fumes outside the ring and then charges back into the ring after Apollo only to get hit with a dropkick that stops him in his tracks. Apollo hits Saito with another dropkick as he gets back to his feet and then gets around behind Saito as he gets back up and tries to hit him with a German Suplex but Saito blocks it and gets around behind Apollo and then drops him with his own German Suplex and holds on for the pin but Apollo kicks out even before the count of 2. Saito argues with the referee about his count only to repeat last week's mistake and turn around right into a small package from Apollo but this time Saito kicks out before the 3 count. Saito springs back to his feet, getting up before Apollo and goes ballistic on him, blasting him with chops and kicks. Saito pulls Apollo up and shoves him into the corner where he just continues to unload on him before Carl Fergie has to forcefully step in between them and threaten to disqualify Saito if he doesn't get Apollo out of the corner. Saito tosses Apollo out of the corner and then puts him in the kneeling figure four. Saito shouts at Apollo to give up but Apollo refuses to submit and after a long inch by inch progress, Apollo pulls himself into the ropes and gets a break. Saito refuses to break the hold until the count of 4 as Fergie again warns him that he's about to be disqualified. Saito turns around and threatens to chop Carl Fergie and as Saito is arguing with the referee, Apollo gets back to his feet, grabs Saito around the waist and drops him with a big German Suplex but Apollo is unable to hold onto it for the pin. Both men are down on the mat as Fergie starts to count both men down. Saito gets up first and tries to grab Apollo but Apollo fights him off with punches to the midsection. Apollo gets fired up more with each punch as he fights his way back to his feet and then whips Mr. Saito in the ropes and tries to catch him with a big dropkick but Saito stops short and Apollo crashes to the mat where Saito quickly puts the kneeling figure four back on him. Apollo once again refuse to submit however and makes another agonizing push towards the ropes to break the hold. Saito quickly breaks the hold this time only to start stomping and kicking at Apollo, shouting at him to stay down. Carl Fergie again has to step in and force Saito to let Apollo get out of the ropes. Saito steps back for a moment only to then attack Apollo again as Apollo starts to use the ropes to pull himself back up. Carl Fergie tries to step in again only for Saito to grab him and throw him out of the ring where Carl Fergie lands hard on the floor of the HemisFair Arena and stays down. Saito continues his assault on Apollo, pulling him out of the ropes and tossing him into the center of the ring. Saito tries to put the kneeling figure four back on but Apollo starts kicking him off. Saito and Apollo continue to struggle over the hold when Apollo kicks Saito right under the jaw with a kick that sends him staggering backwards. Apollo gets back up to his feet as Saito stumbles punch drunk towards him and Apollo catches Saito with a big dropkick that floors the Southwest Heavyweight Champion. Apollo sees his chance and climbs up to the top rope, setting himself up for the Top Rope Crossbody. As Saito gets back to his feet, Apollo launches himself off and catches Saito with the Top Rope Crossbody but as soon as they hit the mat, the bell rings as referee Carl Fergie had recovered outside the ring and called for a disqualification due to Mr. Saito throwing him out of the ring. Winner: El Gran Apollo by disqualification in 14:09 after Mr. Saito threw referee Carl Fergie out of the ring Jim Duggan & Ron Starr vs. Ken Patera and One Man Gang - Duggan starts the match against Ken Patera who wants a test of strength. Duggan gets goaded into it when Patera keeps flexing and mocking that Duggan is afraid of him. Duggan and Patera look evenly matched at first but finally Patera starts to get the upper hand and starts to push Duggan down onto his knees but Duggan holds on and starts forcing his way back up. Patera starts to look worried as Duggan almost has the test of strength turned over and Patera breaks the test of strength with a big knee to Duggan's gut and then Patera drops a big clubbing forearm across Duggan's back. Patera tries to put a headlock on Duggan but Duggan slips out of it and then nails Patera with a big right hand that puts Patera on his ass. Patera scoots backwards to the corner and tags in One Man Gang. Gang challenges Duggan to try and take him down with a shoulder block. Duggan charges into OMG but barely even budges the big 450 pounder. Duggan tries again with the same result and then challenges Gang to charge at him. Gang comes off the ropes and charges at Duggan, but Duggan drops down at the last moment and Gang steps over him and when he comes back around Duggan nails him with a big punch that wobbles the Gang. Duggan fires off another punch that staggers Gang but the big man doesn't go down so Duggan bounces off the ropes and comes back with another big punch and this one is able to drop OMG much to the delight of the HemisFair crowd. Duggan tags in Ron Starr who catches Gang with a knee lift as he's getting back up and Gang stumbles to his corner and tags Ken Patera back in. Patera wants another test of strength this time with Ron Starr. Starr acts like he's going to go for the test of strength but then knees Patera in the stomach and hits Patera with a knee lift when he doubles over. Ron Starr sets up for the big running knee lift but Gang grabs Patera and pulls him out of the way as Ron Starr comes charging in and Patera and Gang bail out of the ring to have a strategy session outside the ring. Patera gets back in the ring and wants to shake hands but Ron Starr slaps him instead! Patera charges at Ron Starr who dodges and Patera instead finds himself in the wrong corner as he gets clobbered with a big punch from Duggan and then turns back around into a clothesline from Ron Starr. Patera rolls back out of the ring and then gets back in on his side where he tags One Man Gang in. Gang challenges Ron Starr to try and take him down with a tackle and Ron Starr bounces off the ropes but then slides between One Man Gang's legs and tries to bounce off the ropes on the other side but Patera catches Starr in the back with a big knee and then One Man Gang hits Starr with a tackle of his own which sends Ron Starr flying out of the ring. Gang keeps the referee distracted while Ken Patera puts the boots to Ron Starr on the floor but Duggan quickly comes around and chases him off. Duggan helps Starr back into the ring but One Man Gang attacks him as soon as he's back in and gets him isolated in the corner. Patera gets tagged back in and starts going after Starr's arm. He keeps wrenching on the arm and then tags in Gang who comes in and drops a big elbow on the arm while Patera keeps it outstretched. Patera and Gang make quick tags in and out, repeating that strategy of Gang dropping on the arm while Patera holds it. Duggan keeps trying to come in and help his partner get out of the corner but only makes things worse as it allows Patera & Gang more time to double team Ron Starr while the referee is busy getting Duggan out of the ring. Finally Ron Starr is able to try and make a break for his corner after One Man Gang misses a splash. Starr is about to make it to his corner for the tag but Patera rushes in and nails Duggan hard which sends Duggan flying off the apron and into the guard rail. Patera and Gang get Starr back into their corner and double bodyslam him down onto the mat. Patera then picks up One Man Gang and is about to bodyslam him on top of Ron Starr but Duggan pulls Starr's legs from outside the ring and gets him out of the way as Gang gets slammed down hard onto the mat instead. Patera reaches out between the ropes and tries to grab at Duggan but gets hit with a big punch that causes him to fall out through the ropes to the floor. Duggan rushes back to the corner and gets the crowd to cheer Starr on as he starts trying to make it to the corner to tag. Ron Starr makes it to the corner and dives to make the tag just as One Man Gang is about to stop him! Duggan comes in and unloads some big punches that have the giant One Man Gang reeling and then is about to bounce off the ropes with a Spear when Ken Patera trips him as he comes off the ropes. Ron Starr comes running around the apron and jumps off onto Ken Patera and they both go down on the floor of the HemisFair Arena. One Man Gang tries to charge at Duggan but Duggan side steps him and then bounces off the ropes on the other side of the ring and comes back with a huge Spear that drops One Man Gang and then covers him for a 3 count to win the match! Winners: Jim Duggan & Ron Starr in 16:51 when Duggan pinned One Man Gang following a Spear Tully Blanchard w/Sunshine vs. David Von Erich - David starts the match going straight after Tully, but Tully stalls and runs away from David with Sunshine trying to help keep David away from her man. Finally Sunshine is able to distract David long enough for Tully to attack David from behind and start working him over. Tully uses every dirty trick in the book to maintain his advantage on David, pulling hair, raking the eyes, choking, and pulling David's tights. Tully puts David's throat across the middle rope and chokes him and as the referee backs Tully off, Sunshine slaps David which only serves to wake him up as he quickly goes out of the ring after her! David chases Sunshine around the ring but ends up being cut off by a Tully clothesline and then Tully beats on David outside the ring. Tully slams David's head off the ring apron and the steps before sending him hard into the steel ring post. Tully goes back into the ring and waits for a count out win as Sunshine mocks David at her feet outside the ring. David manages to get back in the ring at the count of 9 but Tully jumps on him as soon as he gets back in and starts pounding on him some more. Tully looks to set David up for the Slingshot Suplex but David blocks it and Tully can't get him up in the air. Tully tries again and this time gets David up in the air but David gets out of his grip in mid-air and slips behind Tully and as Tully turns around, David puts the Iron Claw on him! Tully tries desperately to get out of it but David's grip is too strong so Tully then tries to get himself towards the ropes but David keeps him away! Tully looks to be fading so Sunshine runs into the ring and jumps on David's back, causing a disqualification! Winner: David Von Erich by disqualification in 9:58 after Sunshine interference Sunshine digs at David's eyes until he finally has to let go of the Iron Claw on Tully to get Sunshine off of him! David manages to swing Sunshine off of his back and she falls down onto the mat as David covers up his eyes. Tully sees David is blinded and chop blocks him, taking David down to the mat. Tully yells at Sunshine to pick her purse up from where she dropped it at ringside before running in to jump on David's back. Sunshine tosses the purse in to Tully who gets ready to hit David with it as he's getting back to his feet but David ducks it and grabs it away from Tully! David goes to swing it at Tully but Tully dives out of the ring and grabs Sunshine by the arm and they run back to the locker room together. David yells at Tully to get back in the ring but he's already almost back to the locker room so David opens up the purse and lets the brick fall down to the mat. David takes the brick and smashes it against the ring post and then throws the purse out into the crowd before walking back to the locker room. Texas Tornado Street Fight for the Southwest Tag Team Titles: The Assassins vs. The Fabulous Ones - The Fabulous Ones jump The Assassins from behind as The Assassins make their entrance and The Fabs start beating on them with the Southwest Tag Team belts. With the match being a Street Fight anyway, Jack Howe just decides to ring the bell and start the match with the teams out fighting on the floor. The Fabulous Ones are all over The Assassins at the start, just beating the hell out of them and hitting them with anything they can find. The Assassins finally are able to turn the tides when Stan Lane takes a wild swing at Assassin #2 with a board and Assassin #2 ducks causing Steve Keirn to get hit instead. Lane tries to check on his partner and ends up getting attacked by both The Assassins instead who both grab one of his arms and whip him into the wooden steps. Then The Assassins both turn their attention to Steve Keirn who is bleeding from Stan Lane's missed shot with the board. Assassin #1 picks up the board and Assassin #2 holds Keirn while his partner starts slamming the butt end of the board into Keirn's midsection. Then Assassin #1 is about to smash the board over Keirn's head when Lane comes diving in and tackles him down. Lane tries to grab the board off the floor but Assassin #2 boots him in the back of the head instead. The Assassins toss Lane over the guard rail and into the first row of chairs and then go back to double teaming Steve Keirn. They work on Keirn's cut until he's covered in blood and then have him down on the floor of the HemisFair Arena. Assassin #2 holds out Keirn's leg and Assassin #1 picks up the heavy wooden steps and is about to drop them down on Keirn's leg when Stan Lane makes the save with a chair! He blasts Assassin #2 with a chair which allows Keirn to roll away just as Assassin #1 drops the steps. Lane then nails Assassin #1 with the chair which seems to knock him out as he crumples to the floor. Assassin #2 starts trying to get back up so Lane blasts him with the chair again. Keirn starts to recover so Lane tells him to hold out Assassin #2's leg and Stan Lane starts to pick up the steps to drop down on Assassin #2's leg when suddenly Assassin #1 throws powder into Lane's eyes and blinds him. Keirn grabs the chair and starts swinging it wildly at Assassin #1 who runs off to the locker room and Assassin #2 sees the fight is lost and takes off in the other direction. Winners and STILL Southwest Tag Team Champions: The Fabulous Ones in 10:42 when The Assassins run away from the match -
It's way too early to judge Raw vs. Smackdown quality. It's only been one week and yea Raw would seem like the better show when they went hot shot crazy by having Sasha Banks win the Women's title with no real buildup and put a guy in the SummerSlam main event after one whole episode of TV on the main roster. Of course you can't have a big title change or a monster debut every week which people seem not to be taking into account when they're proclaiming that Raw is going to be super awesome and Smackdown is already dead in the water. They also seem to be aware that Smackdown needs to bolster it's roster since that's where the returning guys like Shelton and Rhyno are going to. Neither of those guys excite me AT ALL but there are some people who seem to be excited about Shelton coming back. Personally I don't see why they're bringing back guys who are 40 years old and will never be bigger stars now than they were in the previous runs when Chris Masters is only 33 and has a much higher ceiling but that's neither here nor there. I think it also seems clear that Bayley (along with the next batch of call ups) will end up on Smackdown instead of Raw.

I said this exact same thing on twitter but then the people who've been hating on Reigns aren't really basing that on any type of rational thought so it's not like they really care or that the "it was just too fast!" thing was ever actually the real reason they hated him. The real reasons for the Reigns hate seems to be a combination of him not being Daniel Bryan, too Samoan, being a product of only the WWE system who didn't have to "pay his dues" on the indies, that Vince likes him, not doing enough flippy doos and that he is liked by casual female fans because of his good looks (although unlike Balor I haven't seen any women in the crowd holding up signs asking him to face fuck them) and not for the pure and sanctified reason of his workrate prowess. If the Reigns hate was really based on "he was pushed too fast and isn't very good on the mic" then I see absolutely no reason why those same people would be celebrating Balor getting a SummerSlam title match after only one night on Raw considering that that is a WAY faster push than Reigns received and Balor is equal to or lesser than Reigns as a promo.
-
I'd like to agree with that but then we wouldn't have the all time classic Brock/Reigns match marred only by a fucking awful non-finish. I'm down for a Rusev/Reigns feud but I've never liked a guy going from being World Champion to wrestling for a secondary title, especially in such a short amount of time as it would be for Reigns to go from WWE Champ to battling for the U.S. Title.
-
The reports around the time of Reigns losing the title were that the Dean Ambrose headlined house shows were drawing better than the Reigns house shows so it seems like Ambrose is doing a good enough job of selling house show tickets that they feel confident in him being the top guy for SD.
-
Definitely not a constant feud with Rollins just one where he wins and gets the title back. Then beats all the former indy guys while everyone cries.
-
The only good thing about possibly having Roman Reigns hang around the midcard with Zayn, Owens & Cesaro is me getting to read people crying about how he "buried" them when he beats them. Otherwise he should be in the main event considering he's one of the top 2-3 wrestlers in the company.
-
If people are still not convinced of the fact that he's a good worker by now then they are clearly just being willfully ignorant. No amount of good matches is ever going to convince them since they'll just hand wave it all away as him being carried by those indy "super workers" like they did with the AJ matches.
-
I really doubt that WWE thinks they've got a bad Smackdown roster. They put Cena and Orton on SD and despite all evidence that Orton is totally stale and finished as a top act, WWE still clearly sees him as one. Add in the fact that they let SD keep the WWE Title and gave them Daniel Bryan as GM and I'm pretty sure WWE sees the rosters as fairly even.

Well you didn't expect Tully to be gracious in defeat did you? I was kind of looking for a way to get the title out of the Tully/David feud for a bit and a WM X scenario was about as good of an idea as I had. Plus it allowed me to keep Southwest Superstar El Gran Apollo from losing any of the momentum he had gained by finally winning his long ass feud with Jose. -

Taped at The Junction in San Antonio, TX on 1/9 Southwest Championship Wrestling airing on Saturday 1/14 in local markets -Show intro- Steve Stack:Welcome to another edition of the most exciting hour in all of professional wrestling, Southwest Championship Wrestling! Here on the program today we're going to have a rematch of the Southwest Television Title match that was ruined last week as Ron Starr will once again take on the champion Roy Lee Welch and hopefully this week it won't be ruined by any of Sheik Adnan's goons. But before we get to anything else there is a lot of news coming out of last Sunday night's card at the HemisFair Arena as there was not one but TWO title changes involving the Southwest Heavyweight Title. We're going to be showing video highlights of the action later on in the hour but right now I'll just inform you that in the opening match on the card, David Von Erich defeated Tully Blanchard to become the Southwest Champion only to then lose the title to Mr. Saito in the main event thanks to some help from Tully Blanchard and Sunshine. Like I said, we'll be looking at the footage of those events later on in the hour but in other news from Sunday night, 'Rugged' Ron Starr and 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan were victorious over the team of The Wild Bills but we've gotten word that Sheik Adnan has already found another team to send after them this Sunday night. We'll be talking to Jim Duggan & Ron Starr about that later on in the hour as well but right now we've got to take a commercial break but don't go away because when we come back we're going to talk El Gran Apollo the man who will be receiving a Southwest Heavyweight Title shot this Sunday night against the new champion Mr. Saito! We'll be right back! -First commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back on Southwest Championship Wrestling and with me now is the #1 contender for the Southwest Heavyweight Title: El Gran Apollo! Apollo we know that you are capable of defeating Mr. Saito because before Mr. Saito won the title last Sunday night he had to face you in a match in which you were victorious. What are your thoughts about facing him again this Sunday night, now with the stakes much higher as the Southwest Heavyweight Title will be at stake? El Gran Apollo: I glad I have the match with Saito this week not just to be the champion but because how he attack me after the match. He did everything to me in the match but he can't keep me down and I win. So after he attacks me and tries to hurt me. But I ok Steve Stack and this time when I wrestle him I can take from him the Southwest Title and make happy all my people who will have a champion to be proud of. Steve Stack: It seems like 1984 is certainly shaping up to be your year, you defeated Jose Lothario and seemingly sent him out of the Southwest area. You took everything Saito had to dish out, including kicking out of his Saito Suplex and defeated him and now you've got a chance to become the Southwest Heavyweight Champion all before the month of January is even through! El Gran Apollo: Is true Steve Stack, 1984 is good year but not just for me, for all my people because I am doing everything for them. I want them to be there for me Sunday night and when I win the Southwest Title we can all celebrate together. Para mis hinches, te amo, gracias por su apoyo y prometo hacerte sentir orgulloso! Gracias! El Gran Apollo leaves the interview area and The Fabulous Ones come in Steve Stack: Now let me welcome in two men who also have a big match this Sunday night. Gentlemen the last two weeks at the HemisFair Arena you've been involved in matches with The Assassins that have lasted last than a minute each time as both you and The Assassins have quickly been disqualified for attack the other with one of the Southwest Tag Team belts. Stanley Blackburn has decided that this week he's going to avoid that problem of disqualifications by making this week's match a Texas Tornado Street Fight! What are your thoughts about having to face a team like The Assassins, who've made it very clear they intend to injure you, in such a dangerous type of match? Steve Keirn: What do we think about facing The Assassins in a Texas Tornado Street Fight? We love it! There isn't a tag team in all of wrestling who is better in a Street Fight than The Fabulous Ones! Stan Lane: When we wrestle The Assassins it's not like we aren't already prepared for a situation where anything goes, they don't care about the rules and they don't care about using any kind of weapon they can find. Assassin #2 always has something ready to load into his boot anyway so it's not like them being able to use chairs, boards, chains or whatever else is going to be all that different from what we usually have to deal with when it comes to The Assassins. Steve Stack: Well I can see your point there but this time if The Assassins get you in trouble the referee won't be able to step in and no one will be able to come out to help you. Steve Keirn: Right, and the same thing goes for The Assassins themselves doesn't it Steve Stack? They said this wouldn't be over until someone gets hurt so that means we're going to have to hurt one of them before they hurt one of us so it seems to be they are in just as much danger as we are. Steve Stack: I guess I can't argue that point. One more thing before you go, last week after your match we saw you try to unmask Assassin #2. Is unmasking The Assassins in your plans for this Sunday night? Stan Lane: We didn't TRY to unmask Assassin #2 we DID unmask him! His partner just managed to hide his face before it got exposed to everyone in the HemisFair Arena. Our plan this Sunday night is to beat the hell out of The Assassins and get them out of our lives for good. If the opportunity presents itself somewhere in there to take their masks off then we just might take it but our major goal is to just get rid of The Assassins one way or another. The Fabulous Ones leave the interview area and 'Gentleman' Jim Holliday comes in Steve Stack: Mr. Holliday I'm sorry but you aren't on the format for any interview time today and we've got to get down to the ring now for our first match of the day as your client Mike Masters faces off against Mike Fever. Holliday: I'm aware that you've kept me from having interview time on this program today but that's ok because I will have my voice heard because I'm going to stay here and do commentary on this match while Mike Masters destroys this poor sap Mike Fever. Steve Stack: Alright well I don't have time to argue about that, let's head down to the ring now for our first match of the day! *During the match Jim Holliday was on color commentary and Steve Stack barely got a word in as Holliday ranted about Masters/Welch going to a time limit draw while Welch was caught in the Full Nelson, about how The Assassins have gotten another title match and how his team of Timothy Flowers & Goldie Rogers were instead stuck facing Pat Rose & Ron Sexton this Sunday to determine the #1 contender's for the Southwest Tag Team Titles Holliday: He could have finished that match a long time ago Steve Stack but I told him to drag it out so I could have enough time here to say what needed to be said! Jim Holliday leaves the interview area Steve Stack: Well you certainly did say a lot while you were here, that's for sure. Fans we've got to take another commercial break but when we come back we're going to show you the footage of last Sunday night at the HemisFair Arena and how the Southwest Heavyweight Title changed hands twice so don't go away! -Second commercial break- Steve Stack: Welcome back to Southwest Championship Wrestling! Right now I'm going to play some highlights of the action involving the Southwest Heavyweight Title from last Sunday night at the HemisFair Arena. Steve Stack: Fans now you've seen just how the Southwest Heavyweight Title changed hands twice in one night and now I'm going to bring out a man who was involved in all of it, the former Southwest Heavyweight Champion, Tully Blanchard. Tully Blanchard and Sunshine come out to the interview area Tully Blanchard: Before you say anything Steve Stack I just want all these people to know that I was robbed of my title! What that tape conveniently failed to show was how I ended up busted open and that's because David Von Erich hit me with the Southwest Heavyweight belt! He should have been disqualified but instead that crooked referee Carl Fergie just magically happened not to be looking when that took place. Steve Stack: Unfortunately we didn't have time to show everything that happened last Sunday night but the only reason that title belt ended up in the ring is because YOU asked Sunshine to give it to you when Carl Fergie got knocked down. Sunshine: Here you go again out here telling your lies Steve Stack! I would never interfere in one of Tully's matches because he doesn't need any help to win a match! Certainly not against someone like David Von Erich who has been sent to the hospital TWICE at the hands of the toughest man to ever come out of Texas, MY man Tully Blanchard. Steve Stack: Well I'm certain we aren't going to come to an agreement about how that belt got in the ring so let me move on and ask just why you two ended up at ringside during the match between Mr. Saito and David Von Erich because we DID show that part on tape and it clearly showed both of you down at ringside including Sunshine getting into the ring and trying to hit David with her loaded purse. Tully Blanchard: Like I just said, David stole that title from me. Do you really think I would let a man rob me and not retaliate? I had no other choice but to get involved in that match and make sure that he didn't leave the HemisFair Arena with stolen property. Now, Mr. Saito has no real claim to that title either considering he got it from a thief but that couldn't be helped. Sooner or later I'm going to have to get that belt back from Mr. Saito but right now my focus is on David Von Erich. David you said last week that you didn't think Texas was big enough for the both of us, well for once you're right. Texas isn't big enough for both of us and that's why I am going to run YOU out of Texas. Twice before I've caused you to be carried out of the HemisFair Arena on a stretcher. This Sunday night we've got another match and after it's over, you're going to get carried out on a stretcher again. And like they say, the third time is the charm because THIS time you WON'T be coming back! Tully and Sunshine leave the interview area Steve Stack: Well fans we're going to hear from David Von Erich later on in the program but right now my next guests are going to be involved in a Texas Tornado Street Fight this Sunday night so let me bring in now the former Southwest Tag Team Champions: The Assassins! The Assassins come out to the interview area Steve Stack: Gentlemen this Sunday night you're involved in a match where anything goes, where you will have your best chance yet on delivering on your threat of injuring The Fabulous Ones. What are your thoughts about being involved in the Texas Tornado Street Fight? The Assassin: First of all Steve Stack I have not come out here and made any threats. Everything I have said about injuring The Fabulous Ones was a promise. The Assassins don't deal in threats, only in guarantees. As to your question, my thoughts are that a Texas Tornado Street Fight is the perfect match to seriously injure a man and end his career. The Fabulous Ones tried to come out here and bluff you earlier Steve Stack, saying that this match was just as much to their advantage as it was theirs but they could not be more wrong. The Assassins have a history of injuring people, when wrestling fans anywhere around the world see this mask on their television screens they know it means that someone is about to get seriously hurt. We've made that reputation on the bodies of many broken men. Do The Fabulous Ones have that same kind of reputation? Have they ever ended a man's career? Have they ever had a man screaming and begging for mercy and then listened to the sounds of his bones break as his pleas were denied? No Steve Stack, no they have not. For all their tough talk, I don't think they have the guts to do that kind of work, not many men do and that's why there are only two men who wear the masks of the Assassins in professional wrestling. Now one last thing I need to address here on television today. Last Sunday night, The Fabulous Ones tried to expose my partner. They took the mask off his head and tried to reveal his identity to the world. Luckily I was able to cover his face before anyone could see who he is but this kind of transgression can not go unpunished. These masks mean absolutely everything to us and no one and I mean NO ONE can be allowed to try and take them from us and not face the repercussions. Now Stan Lane, Steve Keirn, I've already come out here and promised that one or both of you are going to have your careers ended at our hands so there's really not much more I can say that I didn't already say. Except this: previously our issue with you was just business. Our business is injuring people and you made it our business to do that to you. But now since you've put your hands on these masks, since you've tried to expose one of us, you've made this personal. So now instead of just ending your careers, I'm not going to stop there. I'm going to make sure that we end your career in a way that not just impacts your livelihood but your quality of life. I am going to injure you in a way that you won't be able to spend one single moment of the rest of your lives without pain, without knowing who it is that you have to thank for that pain. And you will spend every moment of however long you have left in this world knowing that the greatest mistake of your life was to ever try and unmask one of The Assassins. The Assassins leave the interview area Steve Stack: Fans I've been in the wrestling business a long time, I've stood here and interviewed over a hundred wrestlers in my day but I'm not sure anyone has ever scared me as much as that man The Assassin. I hope for The Fabulous Ones' sake that he is not as capable of injuring them as he just sounded right now. We've got to take a time out for our sponsors and when we come back I've been informed that we've got another video message from Sheik Adnan al-Kaissie and then I'm sure we'll be hearing a response from Jim Duggan & Ron Starr so don't go away, we'll be right back with more Southwest Championship Wrestling! -Third commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back on Southwest Championship Wrestling and we were scheduled to show a tape paid for by Sheik Adnan al-Kaissie but apparently there are some technical difficulties with that tape so instead we're going to talk to 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan and 'Rugged' Ron Starr and hope we can get things sorted out with the tape in the mean time. Duggan: Don't you worry about that video Steve Stack, there weren't any technical difficulties I went to the producer and asked him to show me the video that Geek Adnan sent in and when it was over I ripped all the tape out of it! I'm sick and tired of the people here having to listen to what that slimy jerk has to say about me, my country and my fans! I can sum up the tape for you if you want though, Geek Adnan found two more goons to come in here and fight me and Ron Starr this Sunday night so if you like seeing us beat people up then buy your tickets because this Sunday we're gonna be beating up Ken Patera and the One Man Gang! Steve Stack: Ken Patera and the One Man Gang? Now I'm not doubting your abilities but Ken Patera is one of the strongest men in the world, he competed in the weightlifting competitions in the 1972 Olympic games and One Man Gang is 6'9 and weighs almost 450 pounds! Duggan: Big deal Steve Stack! I don't care about Ken Patera's weightlifting because the thing about pushing around those weights is they don't push back and the Hacksaw does! As for One Man Gang, yea I know he's a big guy but I've fought plenty of big guys before and I've proven that the old saying is true, the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Steve Stack: Well I'm sure we're going to find out if that holds true for the One Man Gang this Sunday night. Before we get to that tag match this Sunday night however, Ron Starr you've got a rematch here on TV today for the Southwest Television Title taking on the champion Roy Lee Welch. Last week you were blindsided by The Wild Bills, are you worried about the possibility of One Man Gang and/or Ken Patera doing the same thing this week? Ron Starr: Am I worried about it? No, I'm not worried. I'm aware of the fact that it's a possibility but this week I'm going to have Jim Duggan at ringside watching my back to make sure no one catches me by surprise like The Wild Bills did. As for the champion Roy Lee Welch, I respect him. I've known him for a long time, I'm from Alabama and I started my wrestling career there and I think everyone knows Roy is from the Alabama area as well. I've competed against Roy many times and I know he's a great competitor. But I came out here a few weeks ago and told everybody I wanted to take that TV Title and my plan is to leave The Junction here today with it in my possession. Steve Stack: Well gentlemen I wish you luck in your seemingly never ending war against Sheik Adnan al-Kaissie, right now I've got to bring in my next guest on the program, the Yellow Rose of Texas, David Von Erich! Jim Duggan and Ron Starr leave the interview area as David Von Erich comes in and Jim Duggan bumps into David as he's leaving and David stares at him as he walks off Steve Stack: It would appear that Jim Duggan has not forgiven you for the run-ins between you in the past. David Von Erich: I don't really care about what Jim Duggan thinks about me to be honest with you Steve Stack, I've got a lot bigger things on my mind. You showed the people the tape earlier on the show, everyone saw how I won the Southwest Heavyweight Title fair and square from Tully Blanchard and then how he and that witch he runs around helped Mr. Saito steal it from me. As far as I'm concerned I'm the rightful Southwest Heavyweight Champion and I should have gotten a rematch for the belt before anyone else. But I'll have time to take care of that later. Right now my main objective is to do the one thing I've been wanting to do ever since Tully Blanchard slammed that cage door on my head. And that's get rid of Tully Blanchard from Texas, if not all of professional wrestling. Tully you came out here and bragged earlier about how you've had me carried out on a stretcher twice before and brother that's true. But just like the old saying goes, what goes around comes around and this Sunday night it's going to be YOUR turn to get carried out and for that witch of yours to be screaming and crying over you as they wheel you out of the HemisFair Arena! David Von Erich leaves the interview area Steve Stack: Well fans I hate to see anyone get injured but with Tully and David both talking about causing the other to get carried out on a stretcher I can only imagine what's going to take place when those two collide this Sunday night at the HemisFair Arena. But right now my next two guests are NOT involved in any scheduled matches coming up at the HemisFair Arena this Sunday night or otherwise. They are two men who have both talked about retiring from the sport of professional wrestling in the past few weeks and I've had to spend a lot of time on the phone to make this happen but I've got them both here in The Junction today to try and talk out their problems and hopefully get them back in the ring here in Southwest Championship Wrestling. So now let me welcome out here Ken Lucas and Eddie Gilbert. Ken Lucas and Eddie Gilbert come to the interview area from opposite sides Steve Stack: First off let me just thank you both for being on the program. I know you two haven't talked to each other since what happened on the night of December 18th so let's go back to what happened that night and - Eddie Gilbert: Not to interrupt you Steve Stack but I think everyone here knows what happened that night and I really don't want to go back and rehash it all over again. Steve Stack: Well alright Eddie if you don't want to then - Ken Lucas: Hold on a minute Steve Stack I think we at least owe it to the fans and especially to Ricky Morton to mention the fact that he had his career ended by Eddie Gilbert that night and that's what this is all about. Eddie Gilbert: Steve Stack didn't I just say I didn't want to go back and rehash that? I apologized for that on the video I sent in last week, I tried to call Ricky Morton and apologize to him but he wouldn't take my call, I've apologized for what happened that night and I didn't come here today to beat a dead horse. Ken Lucas: Beat a dead horse? You apologized? You think apologizing for piledriving a man on concrete and ending his career makes it all better? Eddie Gilbert: I didn't say it makes it better but neither does coming out here and talking about it over and over. It happened. I've already said I was going to retire from wrestling because I was sorry for what I did, I didn't know I was coming here to talk about it again or I wouldn't be here. Ken Lucas: Well if you didn't want to talk about Ricky Morton why did you come here today? Eddie Gilbert: I was told you had something you wanted to say to me and that's the only reason I came all the way back here to Texas from Memphis, TN. I thought you were going to apologize to me. Ken Lucas: Me apologize to you!? What do I have to apologize for Eddie!? Eddie Gilbert: I thought you were going to apologize for how we lost the match on December 18th that ended our partnership. I thought you were going to apologize for running around the ring after Yang instead of coming in the ring to break up Yin's pin on me. I thought you were going to apologize for embarrassing me by taking Ricky Morton's side when I was arguing with him about how he was stealing our chance to face the Southwest Tag Team Champions. I thought you were going to apologize for everything that happened being your fault. Ken Lucas: My fault?! My fault!? You're blaming this all on me!? Ken Lucas suddenly lunges at Eddie Gilbert and grabs him by the throat Steve Stack: Hey! Ken calm down! That's not what this is supposed to be! We need some help out here! Ken Lucas starts slapping Eddie Gilbert around when Larry Hamilton, Steve Pardee, Mike Jackson, Tony Torres, Carl Fergie and Jack Howe run out to the interview area and pull him off. Eddie Gilbert storms away from the interview area as everyone tries to calm Ken Lucas down Steve Stack: Fans I don't know what to say about what just happened here, this was not at all what I expected when I brought Ken Lucas and Eddie Gilbert on the program to talk to each other. We're going to take a break and try and get things calmed down here in The Junction, we'll be right back. -Fourth commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back on Southwest Championship Wrestling and with me now is - Mr. Saito: You be quiet Steve Stack, I tell the people who I am. I Mr. Saito your new Southwest Champion and I very happy today. No just because I'm the new champion but really was very funny to me to watch what just happened here. Make Saito laugh very much to see Ken Lucas slapping Eddie Gilbert. Steve Stack: Well that's just great Mr. Saito, I'm glad you can take such pleasure in the misery of others but that's not what you're here on the program to talk about today. Mr. Saito: Hey I the champion, I talk about what I want! You need show me proper respect Steve Stack, when Saito come out here you need bow to the champion! Steve Stack: I'll remember that for next time but I'd like to ask you about your match with El Gran Apollo this Sunday night and your thoughts on having to face him again after he defeated you last week. Mr. Saito: He didn't defeat nobody! You need show the tape so everyone can see how the referee count so slow for Mr. Saito and so fast for El Gran Apollo! I put him on his head with Saito Suplex and everyone know nobody get up when I do Saito Suplex but the referee count so slow that somehow Apollo kick out! Then I argue with the referee to try teach him how to count and I turn around and Apollo do a small package to me and referee make a fast count and I lose! I don't wrestle again this week with same referee, I don't want Jack Howe be the referee for my match against Apollo! I don't know why he hate Saito, maybe he hate Japanese people because we are better, but I the champion now and I say he can not be the referee for my match! Steve Stack: First of all I know that Jack Howe's counts are always consistent including the ones from your match against El Gran Apollo last week. I also don't think it says anything in the rulebook about the Southwest Heavyweight Champion being allowed to pick his own referee, you're going to have to take that up with Stanley Blackburn. Mr. Saito: I don't care about Stanley Blackburn! I tell you right now I don't wrestle this Sunday if Jack Howe is referee! Steve Stack: You've spent this entire interview talking about Jack Howe, I wanted to talk to you about your opponent - Mr. Saito: I don't have nothing to say about El Gran Apollo! He can't beat Saito! He never beat Saito! This Sunday when I hit Saito Suplex on him he don't kick out and Saito prove he is number one wrestler in Southwest, number one wrestler in the world! Mr. Saito storms out of the interview area Steve Stack: One thing is clear, Mr. Saito is not at all happy about his loss to El Gran Apollo last week and I have a feeling he is going to do everything he can to avenge it this Sunday night with the Southwest Heavyweight Title now on the line. But El Gran Apollo certainly showed he is not a man to take lightly as he's the only person I've ever seen who was able to kick out of the Saito Suplex and let me assure everyone who was not in the HemisFair Arena that is was NOT due to a fast count. Anyway, we've got to take our last commercial break of the program and when we come back we are going to have Southwest Television Title match between Ron Starr and Roy Lee Welch! Hopefully this time there won't be anyone running out to ruin the match so don't go away, we'll be right back! -Fifth and final commercial break- Steve Stack: Welcome back to Southwest Championship Wrestling! With me now is the Southwest Television champion, Roy Lee Welch! Roy it's good to talk to you again, we didn't have a chance to talk last week and the week before you were in Alabama for your National Title match against Tommy Rich. Welch: Well thank you for giving me this little bit of time before my match here, I just wanted to thank the fans for the support they gave me before I went off to wrestle for the National Title and I'm sorry I couldn't bring it back here to Texas for them but I know I'll get another chance. Steve Stack: I'm sure you will Roy, we don't have much time so just let me ask you real quick about your opponent here today, Ron Starr, and your thoughts on defending the Southwest Television Title against him? Welch: Well like Ron said out here earlier he and I know each other pretty well from both coming up in Alabama and we've wrestled each other quite a few times. Some of the times I beat Ron and some of the times he beat me, I think we're pretty evenly matched as wrestlers and I have a lot of respect for him. But I plan to keep this Southwest TV Title here today and if I do then I plan to keep it Sunday night against Mike Masters. Steve Stack: Well Roy I wish we had a little more time to talk, especially about Mike Masters but right now you've got to head to the ring before your match, it was great to talk to you again! Welch: It was great to talk to you too Steve, thank you for the time. Roy heads down to the ring where Ron Starr is already waiting in the ring and Jim Duggan is standing guard at ringside Mike Masters quickly retreats from the fists of Jim Duggan after he hears the bell ring and runs back to the locker room as Ron Starr gets into a shouting match with Roy Lee Welch inside the ring Steve Stack: What an unfortunate way for that match to end! Ron Starr and Roy Lee Welch were having a great match until Mike Masters caused a distraction and honestly I'm surprised at the way Roy Lee Welch took advantage of it, I'm not sure if he knew why Ron Starr had his back turned to him. Well we're just about out of time on today's program, don't forget to get your tickets for this Sunday night at The HemisFair Arena as Mr. Saito defends the Southwest Heavyweight Title against El Gran Apollo, The Fabulous Ones defend the Southwest Tag Team Titles in a Texas Tornado Street Fight against The Assassins, David Von Erich takes on Tully Blanchard, Jim Duggan & Ron Starr battle Ken Patera and the One Man Gang and much more!
